And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and
raiment, and gave them to
Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.
Then he brought out jewels of silver and gold, and articles of clothing, and he gave them to
Rebekah. He also gave precious
gifts to her brother and her mother.
But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.
But while he was still alive, Abraham gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them away from his son Isaac to the land of the east.
And Leah said, God hath
endued me with a good
dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name
Zebulun.
“God has given me a good
gift,” she said. “This time my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons.” And she named him
Zebulun.
And he
lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for
Esau his brother;
Jacob spent the night there, and from what he had brought with him, he selected a
gift for his brother
Esau:
Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob’s; it is a present sent unto my lord
Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.
then you are to say, ‘They belong to your servant Jacob. They are a
gift, sent to my lord
Esau. And behold, Jacob is behind us.’”
And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will
appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face;
peradventure he will accept of me.
You are also to say, ‘Look, your servant Jacob is right behind us.’” For he thought, “I will
appease Esau with the
gift that is going before me. After that I can face him, and perhaps he will accept me.”
So went the present over before him: and himself
lodged that night in the company.
So Jacob’s gifts went on before him, while he spent the night in the camp.
And Jacob said,
Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou
wast pleased with me.
But Jacob insisted, “No, please! If I have found favor in your sight, then receive this
gift from my hand. For indeed, I have seen your face, and it is like seeing the face of God, since you have received me
favorably.
Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt
graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.
Please accept my
gift that was brought to you, because God has been
gracious to me and I have all I need.” So Jacob pressed him until he accepted.
Ask me never so much
dowry and
gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the
damsel to wife.
Demand a high
dowry and an expensive
gift, and I will give you whatever you ask. Only give me the
girl as my wife!”
And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little
balm, and a little honey, spices, and
myrrh, nuts, and almonds:
Then their father Israel said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: Put some of the best products of the land in your packs and carry them down as a
gift for the man—a little
balm and a little honey, spices and
myrrh, pistachios and almonds.
And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.
So the men took these
gifts, along with double the amount of silver, and Benjamin as well. Then they
hurried down to Egypt and stood before Joseph.
And they made ready the present against Joseph came at
noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.
Since the brothers had been told that they were going to eat a meal there, they prepared their
gift for Joseph’s arrival at
noon.
And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.
When Joseph came home, they presented him with the gifts they had brought, and they bowed to the ground before him.
And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.
Do not accept a
bribe, for a
bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the righteous.
And it shall be upon Aaron’s
forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel shall
hallow in all their holy
gifts; and it shall be always upon his
forehead, that they may be accepted before the LORD.
And it will be worn on Aaron’s
forehead, so that he may bear the iniquity of the holy things that the sons of Israel
consecrate with regard to all their holy
gifts. It shall always be on his
forehead, so that they may be acceptable before the LORD.
And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom, even every one whose heart
stirred him up to come unto the work to do it:
Then Moses summoned Bezalel, Oholiab, and every skilled person whom the LORD had
gifted—
everyone whose heart
stirred him to come and do the work.
Speak unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them,
Whatsoever he be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers in Israel, that will offer his
oblation for all his vows, and for all his
freewill offerings, which they will offer unto the LORD for a burnt offering;
“Speak to Aaron and his sons and all the Israelites and tell them, ‘Any man of the house of Israel or any foreign resident who presents a
gift for a burnt offering to the LORD, whether to
fulfill a
vow or as a
freewill offering,
Beside the sabbaths of the LORD, and beside your
gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your
freewill offerings, which ye give unto the LORD.
These offerings are in addition to the offerings for the LORD’s Sabbaths, and in addition to your
gifts, to all your
vow offerings, and to all the
freewill offerings you give to the LORD.
And every man’s
hallowed things shall be his:
whatsoever any man giveth the priest, it shall be his.
Each man’s sacred gifts are his own, but whatever he gives to the priest will belong to the priest.”
Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service.
“Accept these gifts from them, that they may be used in the work of the Tent of Meeting. And give them to the Levites, to each man according to his service.”
And I have given the Levites as a
gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an
atonement for the children of Israel: that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come
nigh unto the sanctuary.
And I have given the Levites as a
gift to Aaron and his sons from among the Israelites, to perform the service for the Israelites at the Tent of Meeting and to make
atonement on their behalf, so that no plague will come against the Israelites when they approach the sanctuary.”
And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the LORD, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Behold, I Myself have selected your fellow Levites from the Israelites as a gift to you, dedicated to the LORD to perform the service for the Tent of Meeting.
Therefore thou and thy sons with thee shall keep your priest’s office for every thing of the altar, and within the
vail; and ye shall serve: I have given your priest’s office unto you as a service of
gift: and the stranger that cometh
nigh shall be put to death.
But only you and your sons shall attend to your priesthood for everything concerning the altar and what is inside the
veil, and you are to perform that service. I am giving you the work of the priesthood as a
gift, but any outsider who comes near the sanctuary must be put to death.”
And this is thine; the
heave offering of their
gift, with all the wave offerings of the children of Israel: I have given them unto thee, and to thy sons and to thy daughters with thee, by a statute for ever: every one that is clean in thy house shall eat of it.
And this is yours as well: the offering of their
gifts, along with all the wave offerings of the Israelites. I have given this to you and your sons and daughters as a permanent statute. Every
ceremonially clean person in your household may eat it.
Out of all your
gifts ye shall offer every
heave offering of the LORD, of all the best thereof, even the
hallowed part thereof out of it.
You must present the offering due the LORD from all the best of every gift, the holiest part of it.’
Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your
tithes, and the
heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye
vow unto the LORD:
then the LORD your God will choose a dwelling for His Name. And there you are to bring everything I command you: your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your
tithes and special
gifts, and all the choice offerings you
vow to the LORD.
Thou mayest not eat within thy gates the
tithe of thy corn, or of thy wine, or of thy oil, or the firstlings of thy herds or of thy flock, nor any of thy vows which thou vowest, nor thy
freewill offerings, or
heave offering of thine hand:
Within your gates you must not eat the
tithe of your grain or new wine or oil, the
firstborn of your herds or flocks, any of the offerings that you have
vowed to give, or your
freewill offerings or special
gifts.
Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.
Everyone must appear with a
gift as he is able, according to the blessing the LORD your God has given you.
Thou shalt not
wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a
gift: for a
gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and
pervert the words of the righteous.
Do not deny justice or show
partiality. Do not accept a
bribe, for a
bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous.
And for the precious things of the earth and
fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the
bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.
with the choice
gifts of the land and everything in it, and with the favor of Him who dwelt in the burning
bush. May these rest on the head of Joseph and crown the
brow of the prince of his brothers.
Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we?
“If we do go,” Saul replied, “what can we give the man? For the bread in our packs is gone, and there is no gift to take to the man of God. What do we have?”
But the children of
Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they
despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.
But some worthless men said, “How can this man save us?” So they
despised him and brought him no
gifts; but Saul remained silent about it.
And now this blessing which thine
handmaid hath brought unto my lord, let it even be given unto the young men that follow my lord.
Now let this gift your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who follow you.
And when David came to
Ziklag, he sent of the
spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the
spoil of the enemies of the LORD;
When David arrived in
Ziklag, he sent some of the
plunder to his friends, the elders of Judah, saying, “Here is a
gift for you from the
plunder of the LORD’s enemies.”
To them which were in
Bethel, and to them which were in south
Ramoth, and to them which were in Jattir,
And he
smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought
gifts.
David also defeated the Moabites, made them lie down on the ground, and measured them off with a cord. He measured off with two lengths those to be put to death, and with one length those to be
spared. So the Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute.
Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought
gifts. And the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
Then he placed garrisons in
Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and there followed him a
mess of meat from the king.
Then he said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” So Uriah left the palace, and a gift from the king followed him.
And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of
kin to us: wherefore then be ye
angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king’s cost? or hath he given us any
gift?
And all the men of Judah replied to the men of Israel, “We did this because the king is our relative. Why does this anger you? Have we ever eaten at the king’s expense or received anything for ourselves?”
There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; come and break thy league with
Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
“Let there be a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. See, I have sent you a
gift of silver and gold. Now go and break your treaty with
Baasha king of Israel, so that he will withdraw from me.”
And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.
Then
Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God, stood before him, and declared, “Now I know for sure that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel. So please accept a
gift from your servant.”
And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.
When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the gifts from the servants and stored them in the house. Then he dismissed the men, and they departed.
And the king said unto
Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and
enquire of the LORD by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
So the king said to
Hazael, “Take a
gift in your hand, go to meet the man of God, and inquire of the LORD through him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
So
Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Ben-
hadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
So
Hazael went to meet
Elisha, taking with him a
gift of forty
camel loads of every good thing from Damascus. And he went in and stood before him and said, “Your son Ben-
hadad king of
Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man’s heart to bring into the house of the LORD,
Then
Joash said to the priests, “Collect all the money brought as sacred
gifts into the house of the LORD—the census money, the money from vows, and the money brought
voluntarily into the house of the LORD.
And
Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and sent it for a present to the king of Assyria.
Ahaz also took the silver and gold found in the house of the LORD and in the
treasuries of the king’s palace, and he sent it as a
gift to the king of Assyria.
At that time Berodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto
Hezekiah: for he had heard that
Hezekiah had been sick.
At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a
gift to
Hezekiah, for he had heard about
Hezekiah’s illness.
And he
smote Moab; and the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought
gifts.
David also defeated the Moabites, and they became subject to David and brought him tribute.
Then David put garrisons in Syria-damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought
gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
Then he placed garrisons in
Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
Also some of the Philistines brought
Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.
Some Philistines also brought
gifts and silver as tribute to
Jehoshaphat, and the Arabs brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats from their flocks.
Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take
heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of
gifts.
And now, may the fear of the LORD be upon you. Be careful what you do, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice or
partiality or
bribery.”
And their father gave them great
gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with
fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the
firstborn.
Their father had given them many
gifts of silver and gold and precious things, as well as the fortified cities in Judah; but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the
firstborn.
And the
Ammonites gave
gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
The
Ammonites brought tribute to Uzziah, and his fame spread as far as the border of Egypt, for he had become exceedingly powerful.
And brought in the offerings and the
tithes and the dedicated things faithfully: over which Cononiah the
Levite was ruler, and Shimei his brother was the next.
And they faithfully brought in the contributions,
tithes, and dedicated
gifts. Conaniah the
Levite was the officer in charge of them, and his brother Shimei was second.
And Kore the son of Imnah the
Levite, the porter toward the east, was over the
freewill offerings of God, to distribute the oblations of the LORD, and the most holy things.
Kore son of Imnah the
Levite, the keeper of the East Gate, was in charge of the
freewill offerings given to God, distributing the contributions to the LORD and the consecrated
gifts.
And many brought
gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to
Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was
magnified in the sight of all nations from
thenceforth.
Many brought offerings to Jerusalem for the LORD and valuable
gifts for
Hezekiah king of Judah, and from then on he was
exalted in the eyes of all nations.
Then the king made a great feast unto all his princes and his servants, even
Esther’s feast; and he made a release to the provinces, and gave
gifts, according to the state of the king.
Then the king held a great
banquet,
Esther’s
banquet, for all his officials and servants. He proclaimed a tax
holiday in the provinces and gave
gifts worthy of the king’s
bounty.
Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the
fourteenth day of the month
Adar a day of
gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.
This is why the rural Jews, who live in the villages, observe the
fourteenth day of the month of
Adar as a day of joy and feasting. It is a
holiday for sending
gifts to one another.
As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from
mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and
gifts to the poor.
as the days on which the Jews gained rest from their enemies and the month in which their sorrow turned to joy and their
mourning into a
holiday. He wrote that these were to be days of feasting and joy, of sending
gifts to one another and to the poor.
Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice;
Selah.
May He remember all your
gifts and look
favorably on your burnt offerings.
Selah And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; men of wealth will seek your favor.
Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity
captive: thou hast received
gifts for men;
yea, for the
rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.
You have ascended on high; You have led
captives away. You have received
gifts from men, even from the
rebellious, that the LORD God may dwell there.
Because of thy temple at Jerusalem shall kings bring presents unto thee.
Because of Your temple at Jerusalem kings will bring You gifts.
The kings of
Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of
Sheba and Seba shall offer
gifts.
May the kings of
Tarshish and distant shores bring tribute; may the kings of
Sheba and Seba offer
gifts.
He hath
dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be
exalted with honour.
He has scattered abroad his
gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures
forever; his horn will be lifted high in honor.
He will not regard any
ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many
gifts.
He that is
greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth
gifts shall live.
He who is
greedy for unjust gain brings trouble on his household, but he who hates bribes will live.
A
gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it:
whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
A
bribe is a charm to its giver; wherever he turns, he succeeds.
A wicked man taketh a
gift out of the
bosom to
pervert the ways of judgment.
A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
A man’s gift opens doors for him, and brings him before great men.
Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
Many seek the favor of the prince, and
everyone is a friend of the
gift giver.
A
gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the
bosom strong wrath.
A
gift in secret soothes anger, and a
covert bribe pacifies great wrath.
He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.
Whoso boasteth himself of a false
gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
Like clouds and wind without rain is the man who boasts of gifts never given.
The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
By justice a king brings stability to the land, but a man who exacts tribute demolishes it.
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
and also that every man should eat and drink and find satisfaction in all his labor—this is the gift of God.
Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to
rejoice in his labour; this is the
gift of God.
Furthermore, God has given riches and wealth to every man, and He has enabled him to enjoy them, to accept his lot, and to
rejoice in his labor. This is a
gift from God.
Surely oppression maketh a wise man
mad; and a
gift destroyeth the heart.
Thy princes are
rebellious, and companions of
thieves: every one loveth
gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither
doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
Your rulers are rebels, friends of
thieves. They all love bribes and
chasing after rewards. They do not defend the fatherless, and the
plea of the widow never comes before them.
In that time shall the present be brought unto the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and
peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and
trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have
spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the mount
Zion.
At that time
gifts will be brought to the LORD of Hosts— from a people tall and smooth-
skinned, from a people widely feared, from a powerful nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers— to Mount
Zion, the place of the Name of the LORD of Hosts.
At that time Merodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to
Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered.
At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a
gift to
Hezekiah, for he had heard about
Hezekiah’s illness and recovery.
And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in
chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.
And they will bring all your brothers from all the nations as a
gift to the LORD on horses and
chariots and wagons, on mules and camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the LORD, “just as the Israelites bring an offering in a clean vessel to the house of the LORD.”
Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go
wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him
victuals and a reward, and let him go.
But before Jeremiah turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, “Return to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the people, or go
anywhere else that seems right.” Then the captain of the guard gave him a
ration and a
gift and released him.
They give
gifts to all whores: but thou givest thy
gifts to all thy lovers, and hirest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy
whoredom.
Men give
gifts to all their prostitutes, but you gave
gifts to all your lovers. You
bribed them to come to you from everywhere for your
illicit favors.
And I
polluted them in their own
gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that openeth the
womb, that I might make them
desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD.
And I pronounced them unclean through their
gifts—the sacrifice of every
firstborn in the fire—so that I might
devastate them, in order that they would know that I am the LORD.
For when ye offer your
gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye
pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.
When you offer your
gifts, sacrificing your sons in the fire, you continue to
defile yourselves with all your idols to this day. So should I be consulted by you, O house of Israel? As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will not be consulted by you!
As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and
hereafter also, if ye will not
hearken unto me: but
pollute ye my holy name no more with your
gifts, and with your idols.
And as for you, O house of Israel, this is what the Lord GOD says: Go and serve your idols, every one of you. But afterward, you will surely
listen to Me, and you will no longer
defile My holy name with your
gifts and idols.
For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, serve me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.
For on My holy mountain, the high mountain of Israel, declares the Lord GOD, there the whole house of Israel, all of them, will serve Me in the land. There I will accept them and will require your offerings and choice gifts, along with all your holy sacrifices.
In thee have they taken
gifts to shed blood; thou hast taken
usury and increase, and thou hast
greedily gained of thy neighbours by
extortion, and hast forgotten me, saith the Lord GOD.
In you they take bribes to shed blood. You
engage in
usury, take excess interest, and
extort your neighbors. But Me you have forgotten, declares the Lord GOD.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; If the prince give a gift unto any of his sons, the inheritance thereof shall be his sons’; it shall be their possession by inheritance.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘If the prince gives a gift to any of his sons as an inheritance, it will belong to his descendants. It will become their property by inheritance.
But if he give a gift of his inheritance to one of his servants, then it shall be his to the year of liberty; after it shall return to the prince: but his inheritance shall be his sons’ for them.
But if he gives a
gift from his inheritance to one of his servants, it will belong to that servant until the year of freedom; then it will
revert to the prince. His inheritance belongs only to his sons; it shall be theirs.
Children in whom was no
blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and
cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
young men without
blemish, handsome,
gifted in all wisdom, knowledgeable, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace—and to teach them the language and literature of the Chaldeans.
But if ye
shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me
gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore
shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.
But if you tell me the dream and its interpretation, you will receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor. So tell me the dream and its interpretation.”
Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.
