Then I
commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be
merry: for that shall
abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which
God giveth him under the sun.
So I
commended the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be
merry. For this joy will
accompany him in his labor during the days of his life that
God gives him under the sun.
Then I
beheld all the work of
God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it;
yea further; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
I saw every work of
God, and that a man is unable to
comprehend the work that is done under the sun.
Despite his efforts to search it out, he cannot find its meaning; even if the wise man claims to know, he is unable to
comprehend.
For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
So I took all this to heart and concluded that the righteous and the wise, as well as their deeds, are in
God’s hands. Man does not know what lies
ahead, whether love or
hate.
Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a
merry heart; for
God now accepteth thy works.
Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a
cheerful heart, for
God has already approved your works:
Live
joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
Enjoy life with your beloved wife all the days of the fleeting life that God has given you under the sun—all your fleeting days. For this is your portion in life and in your labor under the sun.
As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the
womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of
God who maketh all.
As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the bones are formed in a mother’s
womb, so you cannot understand the work of
God, the Maker of all things.
Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart
cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things
God will bring thee into judgment.
Rejoice, O young man, while you are young, and let your heart be
glad in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes, but know that for all these things
God will bring you to judgment.
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
before the dust returns to the ground from which it came and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is this: Fear God and keep His commandments, because this is the whole duty of man.
For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
For God will bring every deed into judgment, along with every hidden thing, whether good or evil.
Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of
Sodom; give ear unto the law of our
God, ye people of
Gomorrah.
Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of
Sodom;
listen to the instruction of our
God, you people of
Gomorrah!
Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel,
Ah, I will ease me of mine
adversaries, and
avenge me of mine enemies:
Therefore the Lord
GOD of Hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, declares: “
Ah, I will be relieved of My foes and
avenge Myself on My enemies.
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the
God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of
Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And many peoples will come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the
God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways so that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from
Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts,
doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,
For behold, the Lord GOD of Hosts is about to remove from Jerusalem and Judah both supply and support: the whole supply of food and water,
What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and
grind the faces of the poor? saith the LORD
GOD of hosts.
Why do you
crush My people and
grind the faces of the poor?” declares the Lord
GOD of Hosts.
But the LORD of hosts shall be
exalted in judgment, and
God that is holy shall be
sanctified in righteousness.
But the LORD of Hosts will be
exalted by His justice, and the holy
God will show Himself holy in righteousness.
Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.
But this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘It will not arise; it will not happen.
Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
“Ask for a sign from the LORD your
God, whether from the depths of
Sheol or the heights of heaven.”
And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to
weary men, but will ye
weary my
God also?
Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, O house of David! Is it not enough to try the
patience of men? Will you try the
patience of my
God as well?
Take counsel together, and it shall come to
nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for
God is with us.
Devise a plan, but it will be
thwarted; state a proposal, but it will not happen. For
God is with us.”
And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that
peep, and that
mutter: should not a people seek unto their
God? for the living to the dead?
When men tell you to
consult the spirits of the dead and the spiritists who
whisper and
mutter, shouldn’t a people
consult their
God instead? Why
consult the dead on behalf of the living?
And they shall pass through it, hardly
bestead and
hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be
hungry, they shall
fret themselves, and
curse their king and their
God, and look upward.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty
God, The
everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful
Counselor, Mighty
God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an
hypocrite and an
evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Therefore the Lord takes no pleasure in their young men; He has no
compassion on their fatherless and widows. For every one of them is
godless and wicked, and every mouth speaks folly.
Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.
I will send him against an
hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the
spoil, and to take the prey, and to
tread them down like the
mire of the streets.
I will send him against a
godless nation; I will
dispatch him against a people destined for My
rage, to take spoils and seize
plunder, and to
trample them down like clay in the streets.
Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones
leanness; and under his glory he shall
kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.
Therefore the Lord
GOD of Hosts will send a wasting disease among Assyria’s
stout warriors, and under his
pomp will be
kindled a fire like a burning flame.
The
remnant shall return, even the
remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty
God.
For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.
For the Lord GOD of Hosts will carry out the destruction decreed upon the whole land.
Therefore thus saith the Lord
GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in
Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall
smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.
Therefore this is what the Lord
GOD of Hosts says: “O My people who dwell in
Zion, do not fear Assyria, who strikes you with a rod and lifts his staff against you as the Egyptians did.
Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall
lop the
bough with terror: and the high ones of
stature shall be
hewn down, and the
haughty shall be humbled.
Behold, the Lord
GOD of Hosts will
lop off the branches with
terrifying power. The tall trees will be cut down, the lofty ones will be felled.
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. For the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and He also has become my salvation.”
And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’
excellency, shall be as when
God overthrew
Sodom and
Gomorrah.
And Babylon, the
jewel of the kingdoms, the glory of the pride of the Chaldeans, will be overthrown by
God like
Sodom and
Gomorrah.
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will
ascend into heaven, I will
exalt my throne above the stars of
God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
You said in your heart: “I will
ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of
God. I will sit on the mount of assembly, in the far reaches of the north.
Yet
gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the
shaking of an olive tree, two or three
berries in the top of the
uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD
God of Israel.
Yet gleanings will remain, like an olive tree that has been beaten— two or three
berries atop the tree, four or five on its fruitful branches,” declares the LORD, the
God of Israel.
Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:
For you have forgotten the
God of your salvation and failed to remember the Rock of your refuge. Therefore, though you
cultivate delightful plots and set out cuttings from
exotic vines—
The nations shall
rush like the
rushing of many waters: but
God shall
rebuke them, and they shall
flee far off, and shall be
chased as the
chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the
whirlwind.
The nations
rage like the
rush of many waters. He rebukes them, and they
flee far away, driven before the wind like
chaff on the hills, like tumbleweeds before a
gale.
And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.
I will deliver the Egyptians into the hands of harsh masters, and a fierce king will rule over them,” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.
And, behold, here cometh a
chariot of men, with a couple of
horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the
graven images of her
gods he hath broken unto the ground.
Look, here come the riders,
horsemen in pairs.” And one answered, saying: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon! All the images of her
gods lie
shattered on the ground!”
O my
threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the LORD of hosts, the
God of Israel, have I declared unto you.
O my people,
crushed on the
threshing floor, I tell you what I have heard from the LORD of Hosts, the
God of Israel.
And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of
Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LORD
God of Israel hath spoken it.
The remaining archers, the warriors of
Kedar, will be few.” For the LORD, the
God of Israel, has spoken.
For it is a day of trouble, and of
treading down, and of
perplexity by the Lord
GOD of hosts in the valley of vision, breaking down the walls, and of crying to the mountains.
For the Lord
GOD of Hosts has set a day of
tumult and
trampling and confusion in the Valley of Vision— of breaking down the walls and crying to the mountains.
And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be
purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord
GOD of hosts.
The LORD of Hosts has revealed in my hearing: “Until your dying day, this sin of yours will never be
atoned for,” says the Lord
GOD of Hosts.
Thus saith the Lord
GOD of hosts, Go, get thee unto this
treasurer, even unto Shebna, which is over the house, and say,
This is what the Lord
GOD of Hosts says: “Go, say to Shebna, the
steward in charge of the palace:
Wherefore
glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD
God of Israel in the isles of the sea.
Therefore
glorify the LORD in the east.
Extol the name of the LORD, the
God of Israel in the islands of the sea.
O LORD, thou art my
God; I will
exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.
O LORD, You are my
God! I will
exalt You; I will praise Your name. For You have worked wonders— plans formed long ago— in perfect faithfulness.
He will
swallow up death in victory; and the Lord
GOD will
wipe away tears from off all faces; and the
rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.
He will
swallow up death
forever. The Lord
GOD will
wipe away the tears from every face and remove the disgrace of His people from the whole earth. For the LORD has spoken.
And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our
God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be
glad and
rejoice in his salvation.
And in that day it will be said, “Surely this is our
God; we have waited for Him, and He has saved us. This is the LORD for whom we have waited. Let us
rejoice and be
glad in His salvation.”
In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will
God appoint for walls and bulwarks.
In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; salvation is established as its walls and ramparts.
Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is
everlasting strength:
Trust in the LORD
forever, because
GOD the LORD is the Rock eternal.
O LORD our God, other lords besides thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.
O LORD our
God, other lords besides You have had dominion, but Your name alone do we
confess.
Therefore thus saith the Lord
GOD, Behold, I lay in
Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make
haste.
So this is what the Lord
GOD says: “See, I lay a stone in
Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will never be
shaken.
Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.
So now, do not
mock, or your
shackles will become heavier. Indeed, I have heard from the Lord
GOD of Hosts a decree of destruction against the whole land.
For his God instructs and teaches him properly.
But when he
seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall
sanctify my name, and
sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the
God of Israel.
For when he sees his children around him, the work of My hands, they will honor My name, they will
sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and they will stand in
awe of the
God of Israel.
For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.
For the Lord
GOD, the Holy One of Israel, has said: “By
repentance and rest you would be saved; your strength would lie in quiet confidence— but you were not willing.”
And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be
gracious unto you, and therefore will he be
exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a
God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.
Therefore the LORD longs to be
gracious to you; therefore He rises to show you
compassion, for the LORD is a just
God. Blessed are all who wait for Him.
Now the Egyptians are men, and not
God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is
holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.
But the Egyptians are men, not
God; their horses are flesh, not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, the helper will
stumble, and the one he helps will fall; both will perish together.
Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your
God will come with
vengeance, even
God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
Say to those with anxious hearts: “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your
God will come with
vengeance. With divine
retribution He will come to save you.”
But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our
God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars
Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our
God,’ is He not the One whose high places and altars
Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before this altar’?
Beware lest
Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the
gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Do not let
Hezekiah mislead you when he says, ‘The LORD will deliver us.’ Has the
god of any nation ever delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?
Where are the
gods of
Hamath and Arphad? where are the
gods of
Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
Where are the
gods of
Hamath and Arpad? Where are the
gods of
Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?
Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
Who among all the gods of these lands has delivered his land from my hand? How then can the LORD deliver Jerusalem from my hand?”
It may be the LORD thy
God will hear the words of
Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living
God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy
God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the
remnant that is left.
Perhaps the LORD your
God will hear the words of the
Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to
defy the living
God, and He will
rebuke him for the words that the LORD your
God has heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the
remnant that still survives.”
Thus shall ye speak to
Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy
God, in whom thou trustest,
deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
“Give this message to
Hezekiah king of Judah: ‘Do not let your
God, in whom you trust,
deceive you by saying that Jerusalem will not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Have the
gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and
Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of
Eden which were in Telassar?
Did the
gods of the nations destroyed by my fathers
rescue those nations—the
gods of Gozan,
Haran, and Rezeph, and of the people of
Eden in Telassar?
O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.
“O LORD of Hosts,
God of Israel, enthroned above the
cherubim, You alone are
God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.
Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of
Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living
God.
Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see.
Listen to all the words that
Sennacherib has sent to
defy the living
God.
And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
They have cast their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods, but only wood and stone—the work of human hands.
Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.
And now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto
Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD
God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against
Sennacherib king of Assyria:
Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to
Hezekiah: “This is what the LORD, the
God of Israel, says: Because you have prayed to Me concerning
Sennacherib king of Assyria,
One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his
god Nisroch, his sons
Adrammelech and Sharezer put him to the sword and escaped to the land of
Ararat. And his son Esar-haddon reigned in his place.
Go, and say to
Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the
God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
“Go and tell
Hezekiah that this is what the LORD, the
God of your father David, says: ‘I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
“Comfort, comfort My people,” says your God.
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a
highway for our
God.
A voice of one calling: “Prepare the way for the LORD in the wilderness; make a straight
highway for our
God in the desert.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
The grass
withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our
God stands
forever.”
O
Zion, that bringest good
tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good
tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your
God!
Go up on a high mountain, O
Zion,
herald of good news. Raise your voice loudly, O Jerusalem,
herald of good news. Lift it up, do not be afraid! Say to the cities of Judah, “Here is your
God!”
Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
Behold, the Lord
GOD comes with might, and His arm establishes His rule. His reward is with Him, and His
recompense accompanies Him.
To whom then will ye
liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
To whom will you
liken God? To what image will you compare Him?
Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is
hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my
God?
Why do you say, O Jacob, and why do you assert, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD, and my claim is
ignored by my
God”?
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the
everlasting God, the LORD, the
Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is
weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the
everlasting God, the
Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow
tired or
weary; His understanding is beyond searching out.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy
God: I will
strengthen thee;
yea, I will help thee;
yea, I will
uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your
God. I will
strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will
uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
For I am the LORD your God, who takes hold of your right hand and tells you: Do not fear, I will help you.
When the poor and
needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for
thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the
God of Israel will not
forsake them.
The poor and
needy seek water, but there is none; their tongues are
parched with
thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them; I, the
God of Israel, will not
forsake them.
Shew the things that are to come
hereafter, that we may know that ye are
gods:
yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
Tell us the things that are to come, so that we may know that you are
gods.
Yes, do something good or evil, that we may look on together in dismay.
Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
This is what God the LORD says— He who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its offspring, who gives breath to the people on it and life to those who walk in it:
They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly
ashamed, that trust in
graven images, that say to the
molten images, Ye are our
gods.
But those who trust in idols and say to
molten images, ‘You are our
gods!’ will be turned back in utter shame.
For I am the LORD thy
God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy
ransom,
Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
For I am the LORD your
God, the Holy One of Israel, your
Savior; I give Egypt for your
ransom,
Cush and Seba in your place.
Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
“You are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may consider and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me no god was formed, and after Me none will come.
I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.
I alone decreed and saved and proclaimed— I, and not some foreign god among you. So you are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “that I am God.
Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his
redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no
God.
Thus says the LORD, the King and
Redeemer of Israel, the LORD of Hosts: “I am the first and I am the last, and there is no
God but Me.
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a
God beside me?
yea, there is no
God; I know not any.
Do not
tremble or fear. Have I not told you and declared it long ago? You are My witnesses! Is there any
God but Me? There is no other Rock; I know not one.”
Who hath formed a
god, or
molten a
graven image that is profitable for nothing?
Who fashions a
god or casts an
idol which profits him nothing?
Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself;
yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread;
yea, he maketh a
god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a
graven image, and falleth down
thereto.
It serves as fuel for man. He takes some of it to warm himself, and he kindles a fire and bakes his bread; he even fashions it into a
god and worships it; he makes an
idol and bows down to it.
And the residue thereof he maketh a
god, even his
graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my
god.
From the rest he makes a
god, his
graven image. He bows down to it and worships; he prays to it and says, “Save me, for you are my
god.”
And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
I will give you the treasures of darkness and the riches hidden in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who calls you by name.
I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no
God beside me: I
girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
I am the LORD, and there is no other; there is no
God but Me. I will
equip you for battle, though you have not known Me,
Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and
merchandise of
Ethiopia and of the
Sabeans, men of
stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make
supplication unto thee, saying, Surely
God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no
God.
This is what the LORD says: “The products of Egypt and the
merchandise of
Cush, along with the
Sabeans, men of
stature, will come over to you and will be yours; they will
trudge behind you; they will come over in chains and bow down to you. They will
confess to you: ‘
God is indeed with you, and there is no other; there is no other
God.’”
Verily thou art a
God that hidest
thyself, O
God of Israel, the Saviour.
Truly You are a
God who hides Himself, O
God of Israel, the
Savior.
