reins asunder, and
doth not
spare; he poureth out my gall upon the
ground.

persecute my soul, and take it;
yea, let him
tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust.

trample me to the
ground and leave my honor in the dust.

They have
tracked us down, and now
surround us; their eyes are set to cast us to the

You have ended his
splendor and cast his throne to the
ground.

thirsty ground,

For the enemy hath
persecuted my soul; he hath
smitten my life down to the
ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.
For the enemy has pursued my soul,

nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to
shake terribly the earth.

ground, away from the terror of the LORD and from the
splendor of His majesty, when He rises to
shake the earth.
And the gates of
Zion will
lament and
mourn; destitute, she will sit on the

How art thou fallen from heaven, O
Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the
ground, which
didst weaken the nations!
How you have fallen from heaven, O day star, son of the
dawn! You have been cut down to the
ground, O destroyer of nations.
And, behold, here cometh a
chariot of men, with a couple of
horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the
graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the
ground.
Look, here come the riders,
horsemen in pairs.” And one answered, saying: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon! All the images of her gods lie
shattered on the
ground!”
And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down, lay low, and bring to the ground, even to the dust.
The high-walled fortress will be brought down, cast to the ground, into the dust.
For he bringeth down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he layeth it low; he layeth it low, even to the ground; he bringeth it even to the dust.
For He has humbled those who dwell on high; He lays the lofty city low. He brings it down to the ground; He casts it into the dust.
Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.
I am not
angry. If only thorns and briers
confronted Me, I would march and
trample them, I would burn them to the
ground.
Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a
tempest of
hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.
Behold, the Lord has one who is strong and mighty. Like a
hailstorm or destructive
tempest, like a driving rain or flooding
downpour, he will
smash that crown to the
ground.
Grain for bread must be
ground, but it is not endlessly
threshed. Though the wheels of the
cart roll over it, the horses do not
crush it.
And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the
ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the
ground, and thy speech shall
whisper out of the dust.
You will be brought low, you will speak from the
ground, and out of the dust your words will be
muffled. Your voice will be like a spirit from the
ground; your speech will
whisper out of the dust.
Then shall he give the rain of thy seed, that thou shalt
sow the
ground withal; and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shall be fat and
plenteous: in that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures.
Then He will send rain for the seed that you have sown in the
ground, and the food that comes from your land will be rich and
plentiful. On that day your cattle will
graze in open pastures.
And in every place where the
grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay upon him, it shall be with tabrets and harps: and in battles of
shaking will he fight with it.
And with every stroke of the rod of punishment that the LORD brings down on them, the tambourines and lyres will sound as He battles with weapons
brandished.
The
parched ground will become a
pool, the
thirsty land springs of water. In the
haunt where jackals once lay, there will be grass and reeds and
papyrus.
Every valley shall be
exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the
crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill made low; the uneven
ground will become smooth, and the
rugged land a plain.
Yea, they shall not be planted;
yea, they shall not be sown:
yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the
whirlwind shall take them away as
stubble.
No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner have their stems taken root in the
ground, than He blows on them and they wither, and a
whirlwind sweeps them away like
stubble.
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and
crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not
forsake them.
I will lead the blind by a way they did not know; I will guide them on unfamiliar paths. I will turn darkness into light before them and rough places into level
ground. These things I will do for them, and I will not
forsake them.
For I will pour water upon him that is
thirsty, and floods upon the dry
ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
For I will pour water on the
thirsty land, and currents on the dry
ground. I will pour out My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring.
Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
“Go down and sit in the dust, O Virgin Daughter of Babylon. Sit on the
ground without a throne, O Daughter of
Chaldea! For you will no longer be called tender or delicate.
But I will put it into the hand of them that
afflict thee; which have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as the
ground, and as the street, to them that went over.
I will place it in the hands of your tormentors, who told you: ‘Lie down, so we can walk over you,’ so that you made your back like the ground, like a street to be traversed.”
For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry
ground: he hath no form nor
comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry
ground. He had no stately form or majesty to
attract us, no beauty that we should desire Him.
