And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and possession of the king, and of
his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the
valiant men, unto Jerusalem.
Now David summoned all the leaders of Israel to Jerusalem: the leaders of the tribes, the leaders of the divisions in the king’s service, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of all the property and cattle of the king and
his sons, along with the court officials and mighty men—every mighty man of

Then David the king stood up upon
his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the
footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:
Then King David rose to
his feet and said, “
Listen to me, my brothers and my people. It was in my heart to build a house as a resting place for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and as a
footstool for our God. I had made preparations to build it,
And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.
And He said to me, ‘Solomon your son is the one who will build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him as My son, and I will be his Father.
Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.
I will establish
his kingdom
forever, if he
resolutely carries out My commandments and ordinances, as is being done this day.’
Then David gave to Solomon
his son the pattern of the
porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the
treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof, and of the place of the mercy seat,
Then David gave
his son Solomon the plans for the
portico of the temple, its buildings, storehouses, upper rooms, inner rooms, and the room for the mercy seat.
All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.
“All this,” said David, “all the details of this plan, the LORD has made clear to me in writing by His hand upon me.”
And David said to Solomon
his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
David also said to Solomon
his son, “Be strong and
courageous, and do it. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will neither fail you nor
forsake you before all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.
The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. And who then is willing to
consecrate his service this day unto the LORD?
Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David
his father, and
prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.
So Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of
his father David. He
prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.
And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon
his son reigned in
his stead.
He died at a ripe old age, full of years, riches, and honor, and his son Solomon reigned in his place.
With all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.
together with all the details of his reign, his might, and the circumstances that came upon him and Israel and all the kingdoms of the lands.
And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in
his kingdom, and the LORD
his God was with him, and
magnified him exceedingly.
Now Solomon son of David established himself securely over
his kingdom, and the LORD
his God was with him and highly
exalted him.
And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in
his stead.
Solomon replied to God: “You have shown much loving devotion to my father David, and You have made me king in his place.
Then Solomon came from
his journey to the high place that was at
Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.
So Solomon went to Jerusalem from the high place in
Gibeon before the Tent of Meeting, and he reigned over Israel.
And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the Name of the LORD and a royal palace for himself.
Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the LORD hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them.
Then
Hiram king of Tyre wrote a letter in reply to Solomon: “Because the LORD loves
His people, He has set you over them as king.”
Huram said moreover, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son,
endued with
prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the LORD, and an house for
his kingdom.
And
Hiram added: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth! He has given King David a wise son with insight and understanding, who will build a temple for the LORD and a royal palace for himself.
The son of a woman of the daughters of
Dan, and
his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in
crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every
device which shall be put to him, with thy
cunning men, and with the
cunning men of my lord David thy father.
He is the son of a woman from the daughters of
Dan, and
his father is a man of Tyre. He is skilled in work with gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple, blue, and
crimson yarn, and fine linen. He is experienced in every kind of engraving and can
execute any design that is given him. He will work with your
craftsmen and with those of my lord, your father David.
Now therefore the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants:
Now let my lord send to his servants the wheat, barley, olive oil, and wine he promised.
And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering
wherewith David
his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.
Solomon numbered all the foreign men in the land of Israel following the census his father David had conducted, and there were found to be 153,600 in all.
Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount
Moriah, where the LORD appeared unto David
his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount
Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to
his father David. This was the place that David had prepared on the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And he began to build in the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.
Solomon began construction on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.
The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of bright brass.
and the pots, shovels, meat forks, and all the other articles. All these objects that Huram-abi made for King Solomon for the house of the LORD were of polished bronze.
Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God.
So all the work that Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items
his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and all the furnishings—and he placed them in the
treasuries of the house of God.
And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto
his place, to the
oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims:
Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, beneath the wings of the
cherubim.
It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and
thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the
trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for
his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
The trumpeters and singers joined together to praise and
thank the LORD with one voice. They lifted up their voices, accompanied by
trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments, in praise to the LORD: “For He is good;
His loving devotion endures
forever.” And the temple, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud
And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.
And as the whole assembly of Israel stood there, the king turned around and blessed them all
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,
and said: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has fulfilled with His own hand what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying,
The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
And he stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.
For Solomon had made a
brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and
kneeled down upon
his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth
his hands toward heaven,
Now Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had placed it in the middle of the
courtyard. He stood on it,
knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel, spread out
his hands toward heaven,
Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to
his supplication, O LORD my God, to
hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:
Yet regard the prayer and
plea of Your servant, O LORD my God, so that You may hear the cry and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You.
If a man sin against
his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him
swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;
When a man sins against
his neighbor and is required to take an oath, and he comes to take an oath before Your altar in this temple,
Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by
recompensing his way upon
his own head; and by
justifying the righteous, by giving him according to
his righteousness.
then may You hear from heaven and act. May You judge Your servants,
condemning the wicked man by bringing down on
his own head what he has done, and
justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to
his righteousness.
Then what prayer or what
supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know
his own
sore and
his own grief, and shall spread forth
his hands in this house:
then may whatever prayer or petition Your people Israel make—each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and
forgive, and render unto every man according unto all
his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)
be heard by You from heaven, Your dwelling place. And may You
forgive and repay each man according to all
his ways, since You know
his heart—for You alone know the hearts of men—
And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the
pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for
his mercy endureth for ever.
When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the LORD above the temple, they bowed down on the
pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave
thanks to the LORD: “For He is good;
His loving devotion endures
forever.”
And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because
his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded
trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.
The priests stood at their posts, as did the Levites with the musical instruments of the LORD, which King David had made for giving
thanks to the LORD and with which David had offered praise, saying, “For
His loving devotion endures
forever.” Across from the Levites, the priests sounded
trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing.
And on the three and
twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents,
glad and
merry in heart for the goodness that the LORD had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel
his people.
On the twenty-third day of the seventh month, Solomon sent the people away to their homes, joyful and
glad of heart for the good things that the LORD had done for David, for Solomon, and for
His people Israel.
Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king’s house: and all that came into Solomon’s heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.
When Solomon had finished the house of the LORD and the royal palace, successfully carrying out all that was in his heart to do for the house of the LORD and for his own palace,
And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, wherein Solomon had built the house of the LORD, and his own house,
Now at the end of the twenty years during which Solomon had built the house of the LORD and his own palace,
And Baalath, and all the store cities that Solomon had, and all the
chariot cities, and the cities of the
horsemen, and all that Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in
Lebanon, and throughout all the land of
his dominion.
as well as Baalath, all the store cities that belonged to Solomon, and all the cities for
his chariots and horses—whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem,
Lebanon, and throughout the land of
his dominion.
But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no servants for
his work; but they were men of war, and chief of
his captains, and captains of
his chariots and
horsemen.
But Solomon did not
consign any of the Israelites to slave labor, because they were
his men of war,
his officers and captains, and the commanders of
his chariots and cavalry.
And he appointed, according to the order of David
his father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required: the
porters also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded.
In keeping with the ordinances of his father David, Solomon appointed the divisions of the priests over their service, and the Levites for their duties to offer praise and to minister before the priests according to the daily requirement. He also appointed gatekeepers by their divisions at each gate, for this had been the command of David, the man of God.
And Huram sent him by the hands of
his servants ships, and servants that had knowledge of the sea; and they went with the servants of Solomon to
Ophir, and took thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and brought them to king Solomon.
So
Hiram sent him ships captained by
his servants, along with crews of experienced sailors. They went with Solomon’s servants to
Ophir and acquired from there 450 talents of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.
And the meat of
his table, and the sitting of
his servants, and the attendance of
his ministers, and their
apparel;
his cupbearers also, and their
apparel; and
his ascent by which he went up into the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.
the food at
his table, the seating of
his servants, the service and
attire of
his attendants and cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he presented at the house of the LORD, it took her breath away.
Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the LORD thy God: because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, therefore made he thee king over them, to do judgment and justice.
Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delighted in you to set you on
His throne to be king for the LORD your God. Because your God loved Israel enough to establish them
forever, He has made you king over them to carry out justice and righteousness.”
And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.
All the kings of the earth sought an
audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had put in
his heart.
And they brought every man
his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and
raiment,
harness, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.
Year after year, each
visitor would bring
his tribute: articles of silver and gold, clothing, weapons, spices, horses, and mules.
And Solomon
slept with
his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David
his father: and
Rehoboam his son reigned in
his stead.
And Solomon rested with
his fathers and was buried in the city of
his father David. And
his son
Rehoboam reigned in
his place.
Thy father made our yoke
grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the
grievous servitude of thy father, and
his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
“Your father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should
lighten the burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
And king
Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon
his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
Then King
Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served
his father Solomon during
his lifetime. “How do you
advise me to
respond to these people?” he asked.
So the king
hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform
his word, which he spake by the hand of
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
So the king did not
listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from God, in order that the LORD might
fulfill the word that He had spoken through
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam son of Nebat.
Then king
Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king
Rehoboam made speed to get him up to
his chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.
Then King
Rehoboam sent out Hadoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. And King
Rehoboam mounted
his chariot in
haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to
his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against
Jeroboam.
that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers. Each of you must return home, for this word is from Me.’” So they
listened to the words of the LORD and turned back from going against
Jeroboam.
And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.
He also put shields and spears in all the cities and strengthened them greatly. So Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.
For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for
Jeroboam and
his sons had cast them off from
executing the priest’s office unto the LORD:
For the Levites left their pasturelands and their possessions and went to Judah and Jerusalem, because
Jeroboam and
his sons had rejected them as priests of the LORD.
And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the
calves which he had made.
And
Jeroboam appointed
his own priests for the high places and for the goat demons and
calf idols he had made.
And
Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of
Absalom above all
his wives and
his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and
threescore concubines; and
begat twenty and eight sons, and
threescore daughters.)
Rehoboam loved
Maacah daughter of
Absalom more than all
his wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he was the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
And
Rehoboam made
Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among
his brethren: for he thought to make him king.
Rehoboam appointed
Abijah son of
Maacah as chief prince among
his brothers, intending to make him king.
And he dealt wisely, and
dispersed of all
his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every
fenced city: and he gave them
victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
Rehoboam also acted wisely by
dispersing some of
his sons throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and sought many wives for them.
