And
Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and
Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of
Lamech,
hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my
hurt.
Then
Lamech said to his wives: “Adah and
Zillah, hear my voice; wives of
Lamech,
listen to my speech. For I have slain a man for wounding me, a young man for striking me.
That thou
wilt do us no
hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the LORD.
that you will not
harm us, just as we have not
harmed you but have done only good to you, sending you on your way in peace. And now you are blessed by the LORD.”
And your father hath
deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to
hurt me.
And although he has
cheated me and changed my wages ten times, God has not allowed him to
harm me.
It is in the power of my hand to do you
hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me
yesternight, saying, Take thou
heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
I have power to do you great
harm, but last night the God of your father said to me, ‘Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.’
If men
strive, and
hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
If men who are fighting strike a
pregnant woman and her child is born
prematurely, but there is no further injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband demands and as the court allows.
And if one man’s ox hurt another’s, that he die; then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the money of it; and the dead ox also they shall divide.
If a man’s ox injures his
neighbor’s ox and it dies, they must sell the live one and divide the proceeds; they also must divide the dead animal.
If a man deliver unto his neighbour an
ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be
hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it:
If a man gives a
donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any other animal to be cared for by his
neighbor, but it dies or is injured or
stolen while no one is watching,
And if a man
borrow ought of his neighbour, and it be
hurt, or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good.
If a man borrows an animal from his
neighbor and it is injured or dies while its owner is not present, he must make full
restitution.
And Moses was very
wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one
ass from them, neither have I
hurt one of them.
Then Moses became very
angry and said to the LORD, “Do not regard their offering. I have not taken one
donkey from them or mistreated a single one of them.”
If ye
forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you
hurt, and
consume you, after that he hath done you good.
If you
forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, He will turn and bring
disaster on you and
consume you, even after He has been good to you.”
And, behold, I will send a
lad, saying, Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say unto the
lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is peace to thee, and no
hurt; as the LORD liveth.
Then I will send a boy and say, ‘Go, find the arrows!’ Now, if I expressly say to him, ‘Look, the arrows are on this side of you; bring them,’ then come, because as surely as the LORD lives, it is safe for you and there is no danger.
And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men’s words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?
and said to Saul, “Why do you
listen to the words of men who say, ‘Look, David intends to
harm you’?
And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy
shepherds which were with us, we
hurt them not, neither was there ought missing unto them, all the while they were in
Carmel.
Now I hear that it is time for shearing. When your
shepherds were with us, we did not
harass them, and nothing of theirs was missing the whole time they were in
Carmel.
But the men were very good unto us, and we were not
hurt, neither missed we any thing, as long as we were
conversant with them, when we were in the fields:
Yet these men were very good to us. When we were in the field, we were not
harassed, and nothing of ours went missing the whole time we lived among them.
For in very deed, as the LORD God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from
hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.
Otherwise, as surely as the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, who has restrained me from
harming you, if you had not come quickly to meet me, then surely no male belonging to Nabal would have been left alive by morning light.”
And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man
Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee
hurt, be as that young man is.
The king asked the
Cushite, “Is the young man
Absalom all right?” And the
Cushite replied, “May what has become of the young man happen to the enemies of my lord the king and to all who rise up against you to
harm you.”
Thou hast indeed
smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and
tarry at home: for why shouldest thou
meddle to thy
hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
You have indeed defeated
Edom, and your heart has become proud. Glory in that and stay at home. Why should you
stir up trouble so that you fall—you and Judah with you?”
Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast
smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to
boast:
abide now at home; why shouldest thou
meddle to thine
hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
You have said, ‘Look, I have defeated
Edom,’ and your heart has become proud and
boastful. Now stay at home. Why should you
stir up trouble so that you fall—you and Judah with you?”
That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a
rebellious city, and
hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved
sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.
that a search should be made of the record books of your fathers. In these books you will discover and
verify that the city is a
rebellious city,
harmful to kings and provinces,
inciting sedition from ancient times. That is why this city was destroyed.
Take
heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the
hurt of the kings?
See that you do not neglect this matter. Why allow this
threat to increase and the royal interests to suffer?
The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king
Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their
hurt: and no man could
withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.
In each of the provinces of King
Xerxes, the Jews assembled in their cities to attack those who sought to
harm them. No man could
withstand them, because the fear of them had fallen upon all peoples.
Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.
Your wickedness affects only a man like
yourself, and your righteousness only a son of man.
In whose eyes a
vile person is
contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own
hurt, and changeth not.
who despises the
vile but honors those who fear the LORD, who does not
revise a costly oath,
Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that
devise my
hurt.
May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plan to
harm me be driven back and confounded.
Let them be
ashamed and brought to confusion together that
rejoice at mine
hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that
magnify themselves against me.
May those who
gloat in my distress be
ashamed and confounded; may those who
exalt themselves over me be clothed in shame and reproach.
They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my
hurt speak
mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
Those who seek my life lay snares; those who wish me
harm speak destruction,
plotting deceit all day long.
All who
hate me
whisper against me; they imagine the worst for me:
Let them be
ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my
hurt.
Let them be confounded and consumed that are
adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour that seek my
hurt.
May the accusers of my soul be
ashamed and consumed; may those who seek my
harm be covered with
scorn and disgrace.
My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.
My tongue will indeed
proclaim Your righteousness all day long, for those who seek my
harm are disgraced and confounded.
Whose feet they
hurt with
fetters: he was laid in iron:
It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the
hurtful sword.
to Him who gives victory to kings, who frees His servant David from the deadly sword.
There is a
sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their
hurt.
All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt.
All this I have seen, applying my mind to every deed that is done under the sun; there is a time when one man lords it over another to his own
detriment.
The one who
quarries stones may be injured by them, and he who splits logs endangers himself.
They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
They will neither
harm nor destroy on all My holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the sea is full of water.
I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.
I, the LORD, am its keeper; I water it continually. I guard it night and day so no one can
disturb it;
The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the
bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not
hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but the food of the serpent will be dust. They will neither
harm nor destroy on all My holy mountain,” says the LORD.
They have
healed also the
hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
They dress the wound of My people with very little care, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace at all.
If ye
oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your
hurt:
if you no longer
oppress the foreigner and the fatherless and the widow, and if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place or follow other gods to your own
harm,
For they have
healed the
hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
They dress the wound of the daughter of My people with very little care, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace at all.
For the
hurt of the daughter of my people am I
hurt; I am black;
astonishment hath taken hold on me.
For the brokenness of the daughter of my people I am
crushed. I
mourn;
horror has gripped me.
Woe is me for my
hurt! my wound is
grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.
Woe to me because of my brokenness; my wound is
grievous! But I said, “This is truly my sickness, and I must bear it.”
And I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their
hurt, to be a reproach and a
proverb, a
taunt and a
curse, in all places
whither I shall drive them.
And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and
provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no
hurt.
Do not follow other gods to serve and worship them, and do not
provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands. Then I will do you no
harm.’
Yet ye have not
hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might
provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own
hurt.
‘But to your own
harm, you have not
listened to Me,’ declares the LORD, ‘so you have
provoked Me to anger with the works of your hands.’
Therefore the princes said unto the king, We
beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the
welfare of this people, but the
hurt.
Then the officials said to the king, “This man ought to die, for he is discouraging the warriors who remain in this city, as well as all the people, by speaking such words to them; this man is not seeking the well-being of these people, but their ruin.”
He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
“Look!” he
exclaimed. “I see four men, unbound and
unharmed, walking around in the fire—and the fourth looks like a son of the gods!”
My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions mouths, that they have not
hurt me:
forasmuch as before him
innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no
hurt.
My God sent His angel and shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, for I was found innocent in His sight, and I have done no wrong against you, O king.”
Then was the king exceeding
glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of
hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den, and when Daniel was lifted out of the den, no wounds
whatsoever were found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
they will
pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not
harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well.”
And Jesus
rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and
hurt him not.
But Jesus
rebuked the
demon. “Be silent!” He said. “Come out of him!” At this, the
demon threw the man down before them all and came out without
harming him.
Behold, I give unto you power to
tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means
hurt you.
Behold, I have given you authority to
tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will
harm you.
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of
Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was
grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Jesus asked a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was deeply hurt that Jesus had asked him a third time, “Do you love Me?” “Lord, You know all things,” he replied. “You know I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.
For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.
For I am with you and no one will lay a hand on you, because I have many people in this city.”
And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with
hurt and much damage, not only of the
lading and ship, but also of our lives.
“Men, I can see that our voyage will be filled with
disaster and great loss, not only to ship and
cargo, but to our own lives as well.”
Those who want to be rich, however, fall into
temptation and become ensnared by many
foolish and
harmful desires that
plunge them into ruin and destruction.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who overcomes will not be
harmed by the second death.
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a
penny, and three measures of barley for a
penny; and see thou
hurt not the oil and the wine.
And I heard what sounded like a voice from among the four living creatures, saying, “A
quart of wheat for a
denarius, and three quarts of barley for a
denarius, and do not
harm the oil and wine.”
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he
cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to
hurt the earth and the sea,
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, with the seal of the living God. And he called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to
harm the land and the sea:
Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
“Do not
harm the land or sea or trees until we have sealed the foreheads of the servants of our God.”
And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
They were told not to
harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.
And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
They had tails with stingers like scorpions, which had the power to
injure people for five months.
For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
For the power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; indeed, their tails were like snakes, having heads with which to
inflict harm.
And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
If
anyone wants to
harm them, fire proceeds from their mouths and devours their enemies. In this way,
anyone who wants to
harm them must be killed.
And will begin to make
inquisition of them, what they be that have
hurt unjustly with their unrighteousness, and when the
affliction of
Sion shall be fulfilled;
For thou hast
afflicted the
meek, thou hast
hurt the peaceable, thou hast loved liars, and destroyed the dwellings of them that brought forth fruit, and hast cast down the walls of such as did thee no
harm.
And therefore appear no more, thou eagle, nor thy
horrible wings, nor thy wicked feathers nor thy
malicious heads, nor thy
hurtful claws, nor all thy vain body:
For wickedness hath exceedingly
polluted the whole earth, and their
hurtful works are fulfilled.
And now I am the only son of my father, and I am afraid, lest if I go in unto her, I die, as the other before: for a wicked spirit loveth her, which
hurteth no body, but those which come unto her; wherefore I also fear lest I die, and bring my father’s and my mother’s life because of me to the grave with sorrow: for they have no other son to
bury them.
Then said Holofernes unto her, Woman, be of good comfort, fear not in thine heart: for I never hurt any that was willing to serve Nabuchodonosor, the king of all the earth.
For none shall
hurt thee, but
entreat thee well, as they do the servants of king Nabuchodonosor my lord.
And endeavour to
hurt not our subjects only, but not being able to bear abundance, do take in hand to
practise also against those that do them good:
For wisdom, which is the worker of all things, taught me: for in her is an understanding spirit holy, one only,
manifold,
subtil, lively, clear,
undefiled, plain, not subject to
hurt, loving the thing that is good quick, which cannot be
letted, ready to do good,
For regarding not wisdom, they
gat not only this
hurt, that they knew not the things which were good; but also left behind them to the world a
memorial of their
foolishness: so that in the things wherein they
offended they could not so much as be
hid.
For
insomuch as their trust is in idols, which have no life; though they
swear falsely, yet they look not to be
hurt.
But for that they did not
hurt them now, of whom they had been wronged before, they
thanked them, and
besought them
pardon for that they had been enemies.
For the whole creature in his proper kind was fashioned again
anew, serving the peculiar commandments that were given unto them, that thy children might be kept without
hurt:
But cruelly he will lay up thy words, and will not
spare to do thee
hurt, and to put thee in prison.
It is much better to reprove, than to be
angry secretly: and he that confesseth his fault shall be preserved from
hurt.
Forgive thy neighbour the
hurt that he hath done unto thee, so shall thy sins also be
forgiven when thou prayest.
Forget it not, for there is no turning again: thou shalt not do him good, but
hurt thyself.
Deliver us also according to thy marvellous works, and give glory to thy name, O Lord: and let all them that do thy servants
hurt be
ashamed;
And made the midst of the furnace as it had been a moist
whistling wind, so that the fire touched them not at all, neither
hurt nor troubled them.
Whereupon Judas sent unto them in peaceable manner, saying, Let us pass through your land to go into our own country, and none shall do you any
hurt; we will only pass through on foot:
howbeit they would not open unto him.
About this time they that were in the tower shut up the Israelites round about the sanctuary, and sought always their
hurt, and the
strengthening of the heathen.
And unto him resorted all such as troubled the people, who, after they had
gotten the land of Juda into their power, did much
hurt in Israel.
For in his time things
prospered in his hands, so that the heathen were taken out of their country, and they also that were in the city of David in Jerusalem, who had made themselves a tower, out of which they issued, and
polluted all about the sanctuary, and did much
hurt in the holy place:
The borders thereof ye have wasted, and done great hurt in the land, and got the dominion of many places within my kingdom.
For he that dwelleth in heaven hath his eye on that place, and defendeth it; and he beateth and destroyeth them that come to hurt it.
Thus he, that took upon him to make good to the Romans their tribute by means of
captives in Jerusalem, told abroad, that the Jews had God to fight for them, and therefore they could not be
hurt, because they followed the laws that he gave them.
The men of
Joppa also did such an ungodly deed: they prayed the Jews that dwelt among them to go with their wives and children into the boats which they had prepared, as though they had meant them no
hurt.
But when
Judas his first band came in sight, the enemies, being
smitten with fear and terror through the appearing of him who
seeth all things, fled
amain, one running into this way, another that way, so as that they were often
hurt of their own men, and wounded with the points of their own swords.
So when he had
assured them with many words that he would restore them without
hurt, according to the agreement, they let him go for the saving of their brethren.
Now Nicanor abode in Jerusalem, and did no hurt, but sent away the people that came flocking unto him.
For he thought by taking him to do the Jews much hurt.
For as it is
hurtful to drink wine or water alone; and as wine mingled with water is pleasant, and delighteth the taste: even so speech finely framed delighteth the ears of them that read the story. And here shall be an end.
