Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great
trespass unto this day; and for our
iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the
lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a
spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.
From the days of our fathers to this day, our guilt has been great. Because of our
iniquities, we and our kings and priests have been delivered into the hands of the kings of the earth and put to the sword and captivity, to
pillage and
humiliation, as we are this day.
Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The
land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean
land with the
filthiness of the people of the
lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.
that You gave through Your servants the prophets, saying: ‘The
land that you are entering to possess is a
land polluted by the impurity of its peoples and the abominations with which they have filled it from end to end.
Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.
Now, therefore, do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. Never seek their peace or prosperity, so that you may be strong and may eat the good things of the
land, leaving it as an inheritance to your sons
forever.’
And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of
Elam, answered and said unto
Ezra, We have
trespassed against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the
land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.
Then Shecaniah son of Jehiel, an
Elamite, said to
Ezra: “We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women from the people of the
land, yet in spite of this, there is hope for Israel.
Now therefore make confession unto the LORD God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate
yourselves from the people of the
land, and from the strange wives.
Now, therefore, make a confession to the LORD, the God of your fathers, and do His will. Separate
yourselves from the people of the
land and from your foreign wives.”
Hear, O our God; for we are
despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the
land of captivity:
Hear us, O God, for we are
despised. Turn their
scorn back upon their own heads, and let them be taken as
plunder to a
land of captivity.
Some also there were that said, We have
mortgaged our
lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might
buy corn, because of the
dearth.
Others were saying, “We are
mortgaging our fields, our vineyards, and our homes to get grain during the famine.”
There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards.
Still others were saying, “We have borrowed money to pay the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards.
Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into
bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto
bondage already: neither is it in our power to
redeem them; for other men have our
lands and vineyards.
We and our children are just like our countrymen and their children, yet we are subjecting our sons and daughters to slavery. Some of our daughters are already
enslaved, but we are powerless to
redeem them because our fields and vineyards belong to others.”
Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their
lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the
hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them.
Please restore to them immediately their fields, vineyards, olive groves, and houses, along with the percentage of the money, grain, new wine, and oil that you have been
assessing them.”
Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the
land of Judah, from the
twentieth year even unto the two and
thirtieth year of
Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.
Furthermore, from the day King
Artaxerxes appointed me to be their governor in the
land of Judah, from his
twentieth year until his thirty-second year (twelve years total), neither I nor my brothers
ate the food
allotted to the governor.
Yea, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any
land: and all my servants were gathered thither unto the work.
Instead, I devoted myself to the construction of the wall, and all my servants were gathered there for the work; we did not acquire any land.
And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the
land of the
Canaanites, the
Hittites, the
Amorites, and the
Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous:
You found his heart faithful before You, and made a covenant with him to give the
land of the
Canaanites and
Hittites, of the
Amorites and
Perizzites, of the Jebusites and Girgashites— to give it to his descendants. You have kept Your promise, because You are righteous.
And shewedst signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his
land: for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them. So
didst thou get thee a name, as it is this day.
You performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, all his officials, and all the people of his
land, for You knew they had acted with
arrogance against our fathers. You made a name for
Yourself that endures to this day.
And thou
didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry
land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.
You divided the sea before them, and they crossed through it on dry ground. You
hurled their pursuers into the depths like a stone into
raging waters.
And gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger, and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock for their
thirst, and promisedst them that they should go in to possess the
land which thou hadst
sworn to give them.
In their hunger You gave them bread from heaven; in their
thirst You brought them water from the rock. You told them to go in and possess the
land which You had
sworn to give them.
Moreover thou gavest them kingdoms and nations, and
didst divide them into corners: so they possessed the
land of Sihon, and the
land of the king of
Heshbon, and the
land of
Og king of
Bashan.
You gave them kingdoms and peoples and
allotted to them every corner of the
land. So they took the
land of Sihon king of
Heshbon and of
Og king of
Bashan.
Their children also multipliedst thou as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them into the land, concerning which thou hadst promised to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it.
You multiplied their descendants like the stars of heaven and brought them to the land You had told their fathers to enter and possess.
So the children went in and possessed the
land, and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the
land, the
Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the
land, that they might do with them as they would.
So their descendants went in and possessed the
land; You subdued before them the
Canaanites dwelling in the
land. You delivered into their hands the kings and peoples of the
land, to do with them as they wished.
And they took strong cities, and a fat
land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells
digged, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: so they did eat, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness.
They captured fortified cities and fertile
land and took houses full of all goods, wells already
dug, vineyards, olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance. So they
ate and were filled; they grew fat and delighted in Your great goodness.
Yet many years
didst thou
forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the people of the
lands.
You were patient with them for many years, and Your Spirit
admonished them through Your prophets. Yet they would not
listen, so You gave them into the hands of the
neighboring peoples.
For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.
For even while they were in their kingdom, with the abundant goodness that You had given them, and in the
spacious and fertile
land that You had set before them, they would not serve You or turn from their wicked ways.
Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it:
So here we are
today as slaves in the
land You gave our fathers to enjoy its fruit and goodness— here we are as slaves!
And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the
porters, the singers, the
Nethinims, and all they that had separated themselves from the people of the
lands unto the law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, every one having knowledge, and having understanding;
“The rest of the people—the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, temple servants, and all who had separated themselves from the people of the land to obey the Law of God—along with their wives and all their sons and daughters who are able to understand,
And that we would not give our daughters unto the people of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons:
We will not give our daughters in marriage to the people of the land, and we will not take their daughters for our sons.
And if the people of the
land bring ware or any
victuals on the sabbath day to sell, that we would not
buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and that we would leave the seventh year, and the
exaction of every debt.
When the people of the
land bring
merchandise or any kind of grain to sell on the Sabbath day, we will not
buy from them on a Sabbath or holy day. Every seventh year we will let the fields lie
fallow, and will
cancel every debt.
And to bring the firstfruits of our ground, and the firstfruits of all fruit of all trees, year by year, unto the house of the LORD:
We will also bring the firstfruits of our land and of every fruit tree to the house of the LORD year by year.
And in every province, and in every city,
whithersoever the king’s commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and
gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the
land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them.
In every province and every city, wherever the king’s edict and decree reached, there was joy and
gladness among the Jews, with feasting and
celebrating. And many of the people of the
land themselves became Jews, because the fear of the Jews had fallen upon them.
And the king
Ahasuerus laid a tribute upon the
land, and upon the isles of the sea.
Now King
Xerxes imposed tribute throughout the
land, even to its
farthest shores.
There was a man in the
land of
Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and
eschewed evil.
There was a man in the
land of
Uz whose name was Job. And this man was
blameless and upright, fearing God and
shunning evil.
Hast not thou made an
hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the
land.
Have You not placed a
hedge on every side around him and his household and all that he owns? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the
land.
Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;
before I go—never to return— to a
land of darkness and
gloom,
A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.
to a land of utter darkness, of deep shadow and disorder, where even the light is like darkness.”
Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.
If He holds back the waters, they dry up, and if He releases them, they
overwhelm the
land.
Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
to whom alone the land was given when no foreigner passed among them.
He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he
prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.
He will no longer be rich; his wealth will not
endure. His possessions will not overspread the
land.
His
remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.
The memory of him perishes from the earth, and he has no name in the land.
But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
while the land belonged to a mighty man, and a man of honor lived on it.
Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof.
Men move boundary stones; they pasture
stolen flocks.
They turn the
needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.
They
push the
needy off the road and force all the poor of the
land into hiding.
He is swift as the waters; their portion is
cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.
They are but
foam on the surface of the water; their portion of the
land is
cursed, so that no one turns toward their vineyards.
Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
No man can know its value, nor is it found in the land of the living.
For want and famine they were solitary;
fleeing into the wilderness in former time
desolate and waste.
They were children of fools,
yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.
A senseless and nameless
brood, they were driven off the
land.
If my
land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof
complain;
if my
land cries out against me and its furrows
weep together,
He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.
Whether for punishment or for His land, He accomplishes this in His loving devotion.
How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?
You whose clothes get hot when the
land lies
hushed under the south wind,
To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
to bring rain on a barren land, on a desert where no man lives,
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
I made the wilderness his home and the salt flats his dwelling.
And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.
No women as beautiful as Job’s daughters could be found in all the land, and their father granted them an inheritance among their brothers.
The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.
The LORD is King
forever and ever; the nations perish from His
land.
But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.
As for the saints in the land, they are the excellence in whom all my delight resides.
His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall
inherit the earth.
His soul will dwell in prosperity, and his descendants will
inherit the
land.
I had
fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the
land of the living.
Still I am certain to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
For they speak not peace: but they
devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the
land.
For they do not speak peace, but they
devise deceitful schemes against those who live quietly in the
land.
Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the
land, and
verily thou shalt be fed.
Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the
land and
cultivate faithfulness.
For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall
inherit the earth.
For the evildoers will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will
inherit the
land.
But the
meek shall
inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
But the
meek will
inherit the
land and delight in abundant prosperity.
For such as be blessed of him shall
inherit the earth; and they that be
cursed of him shall be cut off.
Surely those He blesses will
inherit the
land, but the
cursed will be destroyed.
The righteous shall
inherit the
land, and dwell therein for ever.
Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall
exalt thee to
inherit the
land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
Wait for the LORD and keep His way, and He will raise you up to
inherit the
land. When the wicked are cut off, you will see it.
The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou
wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
The LORD will protect and preserve him; He will
bless him in the
land and refuse to surrender him to the will of his foes.
O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.
O my God, my soul despairs within me. Therefore I remember You from the
land of Jordan and the peaks of
Hermon— even from Mount Mizar.
For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
For it was not by their sword that they took the land; their arm did not bring them victory. It was by Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your face, because You favored them.
Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.
Your sons will succeed your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land.
Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
Their graves are their eternal homes— their dwellings for endless generations— even though their lands were their namesakes.
God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and
pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the
land of the living.
Selah.
Surely God will bring you down to
everlasting ruin; He will
snatch you up and
tear you away from your tent; He will
uproot you from the
land of the living.
Selah Thou hast made the earth to
tremble; thou hast broken it:
heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and
thirsty land, where no water is;
O God, You are my God. Earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You. My body yearns for You in a dry and
weary land without water.
Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth!
He turned the sea into dry
land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we
rejoice in him.
He turned the sea into dry
land; they passed through the waters on foot; there we
rejoiced in Him.
God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the
rebellious dwell in a dry
land.
God settles the
lonely in families; He leads the prisoners out to prosperity, but the
rebellious dwell in a sun-
scorched land.
When the
Almighty scattered kings in it, it was white as snow in Salmon.
When the
Almighty scattered the kings in the
land, it was like the snow falling on Zalmon.
There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall
shake like
Lebanon: and they of the city shall
flourish like grass of the earth.
May there be an abundance of grain in the
land; may it
sway atop the hills. May its fruit trees
flourish like the forests of
Lebanon, and its people like the grass of the field.
They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.
They said in their hearts, “We will
crush them completely.” They burned down every place where God met us in the
land.
Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.
Consider Your covenant, for haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land.
Vow, and pay unto the LORD your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.
Make and
fulfill your vows to the LORD your God; let all the
neighboring lands bring tribute to Him who is to be feared.
Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
He worked wonders before their fathers in the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan.
And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.
He brought them to His holy land, to the mountain His right hand had acquired.
Thou preparedst room before it, and
didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the
land.
You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land.
This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt: where I heard a language that I understood not.
He ordained it as a testimony for Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt, where I heard an unfamiliar language:
I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth, and I will fill it.
LORD, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.
You showed favor to Your land, O LORD; You restored Jacob from captivity.
Surely his salvation is
nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our
land.
Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that His glory may dwell in our land.
Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our
land shall yield her increase.
The LORD will indeed provide what is good, and our land will yield its increase.
Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the
land of
forgetfulness?
Will Your wonders be known in the darkness, or Your righteousness in the
land of
oblivion?
The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.
The sea is His, for He made it, and His hands formed the dry land.
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth.
Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.
My eyes favor the faithful of the
land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in the way of
integrity shall minister to me.
I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.
Every morning I will remove all the wicked of the
land, that I may cut off every
evildoer from the city of the LORD.
Saying, Unto thee will I give the
land of
Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:
“I will give you the
land of
Canaan as the portion of your inheritance.”
When they were but a few men in number;
yea, very few, and strangers in it.
When they were few in number, few indeed, and strangers in the land,
Moreover he called for a famine upon the
land: he
brake the whole staff of bread.
He called down famine on the land and cut off all their supplies of food.
Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob
sojourned in the
land of
Ham.
Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob dwelt in the
land of
Ham.
They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the
land of
Ham.
They performed His
miraculous signs among them, and wonders in the
land of
Ham.
Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings.
Their
land teemed with frogs, even in their royal chambers.
He gave them
hail for rain, and flaming fire in their
land.
He gave them
hail for rain, with
lightning throughout their
land.
And did eat up all the herbs in their
land, and
devoured the fruit of their ground.
They
devoured every plant in their
land and consumed the produce of their soil.
He
smote also all the
firstborn in their
land, the chief of all their strength.
Then He struck all the
firstborn in their
land, the firstfruits of all their
vigor.
And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people;
He gave them the
lands of the nations, that they might
inherit the fruit of others’ labor,
