evaporated, there were thin flakes on the desert floor, as fine as
frost on the ground.

bake to day, and
seethe that ye will

rubble and
lay waste your
sanctuaries, and I will refuse to smell the pleasing

lay them upon all them that
hate thee.

lay upon you any of the terrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but He will
inflict them on all who
hate you.
Therefore shall ye
lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as

wage war against you,
lay siege to that city.

besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an
axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life) to employ them in the siege:
When you
lay siege to a city for an extended time while fighting against it to capture it, you must not destroy its trees by putting an
axe to them, because you can eat their fruit. You must not cut them down. Are the trees of the field human, that you should
besiege them?

At that time Joshua
invoked this solemn oath: “
Cursed before the LORD is the man who rises up and rebuilds this city,
Jericho; at the cost of his
firstborn he will
lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest he will set up its gates.”
And thou shalt do to
Ai and her king as thou
didst unto
Jericho and her king: only the
spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto
yourselves:
lay thee an
ambush for the city behind it.
Joshua therefore sent them forth: and they went to lie in
ambush, and abode between
Bethel and
Ai, on the west side of
Ai: but Joshua
lodged that night among the people.
So Joshua sent them out, and they went to the place of
ambush and
lay in wait between
Bethel and
Ai, to the west of

Then Jael
Heber’s wife took a
nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and
smote the
nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast
asleep and
weary. So he died.
But as he
lay sleeping from
exhaustion,
Heber’s wife Jael took a tent
peg,
grabbed a hammer, and went silently to Sisera. She drove the
peg through his temple and into the ground, and he died.
And, behold, as
Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will
shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera
lay dead, and the
nail was in his temples.
When
Barak arrived in pursuit of Sisera, Jael went out to
greet him and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man you are seeking.” So he went in with her, and there
lay Sisera dead, with a tent
peg through his temple.

unleavened cakes, and
lay them upon this rock, and pour out the
broth. And he did so.

lay them on this rock, and pour out the
broth.” And
Gideon did so.
So the people took
victuals in their hand, and their
trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of
Midian was beneath him in the valley.
So
Gideon sent the rest of the Israelites to their tents but kept the three hundred men, who took charge of the provisions and rams’ horns of the others. And the camp of
Midian lay below him in the valley.
And the Midianites and the
Amalekites and all the children of the east
lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.
Now the Midianites,
Amalekites, and all the other people of the east had settled in the valley like a
swarm of locusts, and their camels were as countless as the sand on the
seashore.
And when
Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a
cake of barley bread
tumbled into the host of
Midian, and came unto a tent, and
smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent
lay along.
And as
Gideon arrived, a man was telling his friend about a dream. “Behold, I had a dream,” he said, “and I saw a
loaf of barley bread come
tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent so hard that the tent overturned and
collapsed.”
And
Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against
Shechem in four companies.
So
Abimelech and all his troops set out by night and
lay in wait against
Shechem in four companies.
And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and, behold, the people were come forth out of the city; and he rose up against them, and
smote them.
So he took his men, divided them into three companies, and lay in wait in the fields. When he saw the people coming out of the city, he rose up against them and attacked them.

wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she
lay sore upon him: and she told the

riddle to her people.
And it was told the Gazites, saying,
Samson is come
hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.
When the Gazites heard that
Samson was there, they surrounded that place and
lay in wait for him all night at the city gate. They were quiet throughout the night, saying, “Let us wait until
dawn; then we will kill him.”
And
Samson lay till
midnight, and arose at
midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before
Hebron.
But
Samson lay there only until
midnight, when he got up, took hold of the doors of the city gate and both gateposts, and pulled them out, bar and all. Then he put them on his shoulders and took them to the top of the mountain overlooking
Hebron.
And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?
“Be quiet,” they told him. “Put your hand over your mouth and come with us and be a father and a priest to us. Is it better for you to be a priest for the house of one person or a priest for a tribe and family in Israel?”
Then came the woman in the
dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, till it was light.

lay there until it was light.
And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.

heap of grain. Then
Ruth went in secretly, uncovered his feet, and
lay down.
And it came to pass at
midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman
lay at his feet.
At
midnight, Boaz was
startled, turned over, and there lying at his feet was a woman!
And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.
So she
lay down at his feet until morning, but she got up before
anyone else could recognize her. Then Boaz said, “Do not let it be known that a woman came to the
threshing floor.”
Now
Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they
lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Now
Eli was very old, and he heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they were sleeping with the women who served at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
And he ran unto
Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and
lay down.
He ran to
Eli and said, “Here I am, for you have called me.” “I did not call,”
Eli replied. “Go back and lie down.” So he went and
lay down.
Therefore
Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and
lay down in his place.
“Go and lie down,” he said to Samuel, “and if He calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for Your servant is
listening.’” So Samuel went and
lay down in his place.
And Samuel
lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to
shew Eli the vision.
Samuel
lay down until the morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. He was afraid to tell
Eli the vision,
And take the ark of the LORD, and
lay it upon the
cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a
trespass offering, in a
coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.
Take the ark of the LORD, set it on the
