For I the LORD
love judgment, I
hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an
everlasting covenant with them.
In all their
affliction he was
afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his
love and in his
pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.
In all their distress, He too was
afflicted, and the Angel of His Presence saved them. In His
love and
compassion He redeemed them; He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be
glad with her, all ye that
love her:
rejoice for joy with her, all ye that
mourn for her:
Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the
love of thine
espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.
“Go and
proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘I remember the devotion of your youth, your
love as a
bride, how you followed Me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.
Withhold thy foot from being
unshod, and thy throat from
thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have
loved strangers, and after them will I go.
You should have kept your feet from going bare and your throat from being
thirsty. But you said, ‘It is hopeless! For I
love foreign gods, and I must go after them.’
Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.
How
skillfully you pursue
love! Even the most immoral of women could learn from your ways.
They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly
polluted? but thou hast played the
harlot with many
lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.
“If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him to marry another, can he ever return to her? Would not such a land be completely
defiled? But you have played the
harlot with many
lovers— and you would return to Me?” declares the LORD.
Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been
lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast
polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.
“Lift up your eyes to the barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been
violated? You sat beside the
highways waiting for your
lovers, like a
nomad in the desert. You have
defiled the land with your
prostitution and wickedness.
And when thou art
spoiled, what
wilt thou do? Though thou clothest
thyself with
crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make
thyself fair; thy
lovers will
despise thee, they will seek thy life.
The prophets
prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people
love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
The prophets
prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority. My people
love it so, but what will you do in the end?
And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.
They will be exposed to the sun and moon, and to all the host of heaven which they have loved, served, followed, consulted, and worshiped. Their bones will not be gathered up or buried, but will become like dung lying on the ground.
I have
forsaken mine house, I have left mine
heritage; I have given the
dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.
I have
forsaken My house; I have abandoned My inheritance. I have given the
love of My life into the hands of her enemies.
Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they
loved to
wander, they have not
refrained their feet, therefore the LORD
doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
This is what the LORD says about this people: “Truly they
love to
wander; they have not restrained their feet. So the LORD does not accept them; He will now remember their guilt and call their sins to account.”
Go up to
Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in
Bashan, and cry from the passages: for all thy
lovers are destroyed.
Go up to
Lebanon and cry out; raise your voice in
Bashan; cry out from Abarim, for all your
lovers have been
crushed.
The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy
lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be
ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.
The wind will drive away all your
shepherds, and your
lovers will go into captivity. Then you will be
ashamed and
humiliated because of all your wickedness.
All thy
lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the
chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.
All your lovers have forgotten you; they no longer seek you, for I have struck you as an enemy would, with the discipline of someone cruel, because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins.
The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying,
Yea, I have
loved thee with an
everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have
loved you with an
everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with loving devotion.
She weepeth
sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: among all her
lovers she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt
treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.
She weeps
aloud in the night, with tears upon her cheeks. Among all her
lovers there is no one to comfort her. All her friends have
betrayed her; they have become her enemies.
I called for my
lovers, but they
deceived me: my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to
relieve their souls.
I called out to my
lovers, but they have
betrayed me. My priests and elders perished in the city while they searched for food to keep themselves alive.
Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of
love; and I spread my
skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness:
yea, I
sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.
Then I passed by and saw you, and you were indeed old enough for
love. So I spread My
cloak over you and covered your nakedness. I
pledged Myself to you, entered into a covenant with you, and you became Mine, declares the Lord GOD.
They give gifts to all whores: but thou givest thy gifts to all thy
lovers, and hirest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy
whoredom.
Men give gifts to all their prostitutes, but you gave gifts to all your
lovers. You
bribed them to come to you from everywhere for your
illicit favors.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy
filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy whoredoms with thy
lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou
didst give unto them;
This is what the Lord GOD says: Because you poured out your wealth and exposed your nakedness in your
promiscuity with your
lovers and with all your
detestable idols, and because of the blood of your children which you gave to them,
Behold, therefore I will gather all thy
lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast
loved, with all them that thou hast
hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness.
therefore I will surely gather all the
lovers with whom you found pleasure, all those you
loved and all those you
hated. I will gather them against you from all around and
expose you before them, and they will see you completely naked.
And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and shall break down thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare.
Then I will deliver you into the hands of your
lovers, and they will level your mounds and
tear down your lofty shrines. They will strip off your clothes, take your fine
jewelry, and leave you naked and bare.
And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and
execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the
harlot, and thou also shalt give no
hire any more.
Then they will burn down your houses and
execute judgment against you in the sight of many women. I will put an end to your
prostitution, and you will never again pay your
lovers.
And Aholah played the
harlot when she was mine; and she
doted on her
lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbours,
Oholah
prostituted herself while she was still Mine. She
lusted after her
lovers, the Assyrians—warriors
Wherefore I have delivered her into the hand of her
lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, upon whom she
doted.
Therefore I delivered her into the hands of her
lovers, the Assyrians for whom she
lusted.
And when her sister
Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her
inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her whoredoms.
And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of
love, and they
defiled her with their
whoredom, and she was
polluted with them, and her mind was
alienated from them.
Then the Babylonians came to her, to the bed of
love, and in their
lust they
defiled her. But after she had been
defiled by them, she turned away in
disgust.
For she
doted upon their
paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of
asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.
Therefore, O
Aholibah, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will raise up thy
lovers against thee, from whom thy mind is
alienated, and I will bring them against thee on every side;
Therefore, Oholibah, this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will
incite your
lovers against you, those from whom you turned away in
disgust. And I will bring them against you from every side—
And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they
shew much
love, but their heart goeth after their
covetousness.
So My people come to you as usual, sit before you, and hear your words; but they do not put them into practice. Although they express
love with their mouths, their hearts pursue
dishonest gain.
And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
Indeed, you are to them like a singer of
love songs with a beautiful voice, who
skillfully plays an instrument. They hear your words but do not put them into practice.
Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.
Now God had granted Daniel favor and
compassion from the chief official,
And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and
dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that
love him, and to them that keep his commandments;
And I prayed to the LORD my God and
confessed, “O, Lord, the great and
awesome God, who keeps His covenant of loving devotion to those who
love Him and keep His commandments,
Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ru-
hamah.
“Say of your brothers, ‘My people,’ and of your sisters, ‘My loved one.’
For their mother hath played the
harlot: she that conceived them hath done
shamefully: for she said, I will go after my
lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.
For their mother has played the
harlot and has conceived them in disgrace. For she thought, ‘I will go after my
lovers, who give me bread and water, wool and linen, oil and drink.’
And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
She will pursue her lovers but not catch them; she will seek them but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will return to my first husband, for then I was better off than now.’
And now will I discover her
lewdness in the sight of her
lovers, and none shall deliver her out of mine hand.
And then I will
expose her
lewdness in the sight of her
lovers, and no one will deliver her out of My hands.
And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees,
whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my
lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.
I will destroy her vines and fig trees, which she thinks are the wages paid by her
lovers. So I will make them into a
thicket, and the beasts of the field will
devour them.
And I will visit upon her the days of
Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her
lovers, and
forgat me, saith the LORD.
I will
punish her for the days of the Baals when she burned incense to them, when she decked herself with rings and
jewelry, and went after her
lovers. But Me she
forgot,” declares the LORD.
Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet,
love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an
adulteress, according to the
love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and
love flagons of wine.
Then the LORD said to me, “Go show
love to your wife again, though she is
loved by another and is an
adulteress.
Love her as the LORD
loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and offer
raisin cakes to idols.”
Their drink is
sour: they have committed
whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do
love, Give ye.
For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild
ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath
hired lovers.
For they have gone up to Assyria like a wild
donkey on its own. Ephraim has
hired lovers.
Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou hast gone a
whoring from thy God, thou hast
loved a reward upon every
cornfloor.
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to
Baal-peor, and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they
loved.
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your fathers as the firstfruits of the fig tree in its first season. But they went to
Baal-peor, and consecrated themselves to Shame; so they became as
detestable as the thing they
loved.
All their wickedness is in
Gilgal: for there I
hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will
love them no more: all their princes are revolters.
All their evil appears at
Gilgal, for there I
hated them. I will drive them from My house for the wickedness of their deeds. I will no longer
love them; all their leaders are
rebellious.
And Ephraim is as an
heifer that is taught, and
loveth to
tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to
ride; Judah shall
plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.
Ephraim is a well-trained
heifer that
loves to
thresh; but I will place a yoke on her fair neck. I will
harness Ephraim, Judah will
plow, and Jacob will break the hard ground.
When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.
I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.
I led them with cords of kindness, with ropes of love; I lifted the yoke from their necks and bent down to feed them.
Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
But you must return to your God, maintaining love and justice, and always waiting on your God.
He is a merchant, the balances of
deceit are in his hand: he
loveth to
oppress.
I will
heal their
backsliding, I will
love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him.
I will
heal their
apostasy; I will freely
love them, for My anger has turned away from them.
Offer
leavened bread as a
thank offering, and loudly
proclaim your
freewill offerings. For that is what you children of Israel
love to do,” declares the Lord GOD.
Hate the evil, and
love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be
gracious unto the
remnant of Joseph.
Hate evil and
love good; establish justice in the gate. Perhaps the LORD, the God of Hosts, will be
gracious to the
remnant of Joseph.”
In that day shall the fair virgins and young men
faint for
thirst.
In that day the
lovely young women— the young men as well— will
faint from
thirst.
Who
hate the good, and
love the evil; who
pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;
You
hate good and
love evil. You
tear the skin from my people and strip the flesh from their bones.
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what
doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to
love mercy, and to walk
humbly with thy God?
He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to
love mercy, and to walk
humbly with your God?
The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will
rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his
love, he will joy over thee with singing.
The LORD your God is among you; He is mighty to save. He will
rejoice over you with
gladness; He will quiet you with His
love; He will
rejoice over you with singing.”
And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and
love no false oath: for all these are things that I
hate, saith the LORD.
do not plot evil in your hearts against your
neighbor, and do not
love to
swear falsely, for I
hate all these things,” declares the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and
gladness, and
cheerful feasts; therefore
love the truth and peace.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts says: The fasts of the fourth, the fifth, the seventh, and the tenth months will become times of joy and
gladness,
cheerful feasts for the house of Judah. Therefore you are to
love both truth and peace.”
For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall make the young men
cheerful, and new wine the maids.
How
lovely they will be, and how beautiful! Grain will make the young men
flourish, and new wine, the young women.
I have
loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou
loved us? Was not
Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the LORD: yet I
loved Jacob,
“I have
loved you,” says the LORD. But you ask, “How have You
loved us?” “Was not
Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares the LORD. “Yet Jacob I have
loved,
Judah hath dealt
treacherously, and an
abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath
profaned the
holiness of the LORD which he
loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
Judah has broken faith; an
abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has
profaned the LORD’s beloved sanctuary by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt
love thy neighbour, and
hate thine enemy.
You have heard that it was said, ‘
Love your
neighbor’ and ‘
Hate your enemy.’
But I tell you,
love your enemies and pray for those who
persecute you,
For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even tax collectors do the same?
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they
love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men.
Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
No man can serve two masters: for either he will
hate the one, and
love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and
despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and
mammon.
No one can serve two masters: Either he will
hate the one and
love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and
despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Anyone who
loves his father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me;
anyone who
loves his son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me;
Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt
love thy neighbour as
thyself.
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt
love thy neighbour as
thyself.
And
love the
uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
They love the places of honor at banquets, the chief seats in the synagogues,
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Because of the
multiplication of wickedness, the
love of most will grow cold.
Then Jesus beholding him
loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell
whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
Jesus looked at him,
loved him, and said to him, “There is one thing you lack: Go, sell everything you own and give to the poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt
love thy neighbour as
thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
The second is this: ‘
Love your
neighbor as
yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
and to
love Him with all your heart and with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to
love your
neighbor as
yourself, which is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
And he said unto them in his doctrine,
Beware of the
scribes, which
love to go in long clothing, and
love salutations in the marketplaces,
In His teaching Jesus also said, “Watch out for the
scribes. They like to walk around in long robes, to receive greetings in the marketplaces,
But I say unto you which hear,
Love your enemies, do good to them which
hate you,
But to those of you who will
listen, I say:
Love your enemies, do good to those who
hate you,
For if ye
love them which
love you, what
thank have ye? for sinners also
love those that
love them.
If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.
But
love ye your enemies, and do good, and
lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the
unthankful and to the evil.
But
love your enemies, do good to them, and
lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the
ungrateful and wicked.
For he
loveth our nation, and he hath built us a
synagogue.
for he
loves our nation and has built our
synagogue.”
And when they had nothing to pay, he
frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will
love him most?
When they were unable to repay him, he
forgave both of them. Which one, then, will
love him more?”
Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are
forgiven; for she
loved much: but to whom little is
forgiven, the same
loveth little.
Therefore I tell you, because her many sins have been
forgiven, she has
loved much. But he who has been
forgiven little
loves little.”
And he answering said, Thou shalt
love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as
thyself.
He answered, “‘
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and ‘
Love your
neighbor as
yourself.’”
But
woe unto you,
Pharisees! for ye
tithe mint and
rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the
love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Woe to you
Pharisees! You pay
tithes of
mint,
rue, and every
herb, but you disregard justice and the
love of God. You should have practiced the latter without neglecting the former.
Woe unto you,
Pharisees! for ye
love the
uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
Woe to you
Pharisees! You
love the chief seats in the synagogues and the greetings in the marketplaces.
No servant can serve two masters: for either he will
hate the one, and
love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and
despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and
mammon.
No servant can serve two masters. Either he will
hate the one and
love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and
despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
The
Pharisees, who were
lovers of money, heard all of this and were
scoffing at Jesus.
Beware of the
scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and
love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
“
Beware of the
scribes. They like to walk around in long robes, and they
love the greetings in the marketplaces, the chief seats in the synagogues, and the places of honor at banquets.
For God so
loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.
For God so
loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that
everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
And this is the
condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men
loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
And this is the
verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men
loved the darkness rather than the Light because their deeds were evil.
The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
The Father loves the Son and has placed all things in His hands.
For the Father
loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will
shew him greater works than these, that ye may
marvel.
The Father
loves the Son and shows Him all He does. And to your
amazement, He will show Him even greater works than these.
But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
but I know you, that you do not have the love of God within you.
Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on My own, but He sent Me.
Therefore
doth my Father
love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
The reason the Father loves Me is that I lay down My life in order to take it up again.
Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one You love is sick.”
