reveal his iniquity; and
the earth shall rise up against him.

expose his iniquity, and
the earth will rise up against him.

mock on.
Bear with me while I speak;
then, after I have spoken, you may go on
mocking.
As for me, is my
complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?
Is my
complaint against a man?
Then why should I not be impatient?
Wherefore do
the wicked live, become old,
yea, are mighty in power?
Why do the wicked live on, growing old and increasing in power?

calf.

They send forth
their little ones like a flock;
their children
skip about,

How
oft is
the candle of
the wicked put out! and how
oft cometh
their destruction upon
them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.
How often is
the lamp of
the wicked put out? Does
disaster come upon
them? Does God, in His anger,
apportion destruction?
They are as
stubble before
the wind, and as
chaff that
the storm carrieth away.
Are
they like straw before
the wind, like
chaff swept away by a storm?
God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.

His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of
the wrath of
the Almighty.
Let his eyes see his own destruction; let him drink for himself
the wrath of

For you say, ‘Where now is
the nobleman’s house, and where are
the tents in which
the wicked dwell?’

them that go by
the way? and do ye not know
their tokens,
Have you never asked those who travel the roads? Do you not accept their reports?

spared from
the day of
calamity, delivered from
the day of wrath.

there remaineth
falsehood?
So how can you comfort me with empty words? For your answers remain full of

the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him that thou makest thy ways perfect?

the Almighty that you are righteous? Does He profit if your ways are
blameless?

needlessly demanded security from your brothers and deprived
the naked of
their clothing.

doth God know? can he judge through
the dark cloud?
Yet you say: ‘What does God know? Does He judge through thick darkness?
Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he
seeth not; and he walketh in
the circuit of heaven.
Thick clouds
veil Him so He does not see us as He traverses
the vault of heaven.’
Hast thou marked
the old way which wicked men have
trodden?
Will you stay on
the ancient path that wicked men have
trod?

the innocent
laugh them to
scorn.

glad;
the innocent
mock them:

the remnant of
them the fire consumeth.
‘Surely our foes are destroyed, and fire has consumed their excess.’

thyself with him, and be at peace:
thereby good shall come unto
thee.
Reconcile now and be at peace with Him;
thereby good will come to you.

the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
If you return to
the Almighty, you will be restored. If you remove injustice from your tents
Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and
the gold of
Ophir as
the stones of
the brooks.
and
consign your gold to
the dust and
the gold of
Ophir to
the stones of
the ravines,
then the Almighty will be your gold and
the finest silver for you.
For
then shalt thou have thy delight in
the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
Surely
then you will delight in
the Almighty and lift up your face to God.
Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
You will pray to Him, and He will hear you, and you will
fulfill your vows.
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto
thee: and
the light shall
shine upon thy ways.
Your decisions will be carried out, and light will
shine on your ways.

Then an upright man could reason with Him, and I would be delivered
forever from my Judge.
Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:
If I go east, He is not there, and if I go west, I cannot find Him.
On
the left hand, where he
doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on
the right hand, that I cannot see him:
When He is at work in the north, I cannot behold Him; when He turns to the south, I cannot see Him.
But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.

stolen flocks.

the ass of
the fatherless,
they take
the widow’s ox for a
pledge.
They drive away
the donkey of
the fatherless and take
the widow’s ox in
pledge.
They turn
the needy out of
the way:
the poor of
the earth hide
themselves together.
They push the needy off
the road and force all
the poor of
the land into hiding.
Behold, as wild
asses in
the desert, go
they forth to
their work; rising
betimes for a prey:
the wilderness yieldeth food for
them and for
their children.
Indeed, like wild
donkeys in
the desert,
the poor go to work
foraging for food;
the wasteland is food for
their children.

the field: and
they gather
the vintage of
the wicked.

fodder in
the fields and
glean the vineyards of

the naked to
lodge without clothing, that
they have no covering in

they have no covering against
the cold.

the rocks for want of shelter.

snatched from
the breast;
the nursing child of
the poor is seized for a debt.

they take away
the sheaf from
the hungry;

their walls, and
tread their winepresses, and suffer
thirst.
Men
groan from out of
the city, and
the soul of
the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to
them.
From
the city, men
groan, and
the souls of
the wounded cry out, yet God charges no one with
wrongdoing.
They are of those that
rebel against
the light;
they know not
the ways
thereof, nor
abide in
the paths
thereof.
Then there are those who
rebel against
the light, not knowing its ways or staying on its paths.
The murderer rising with
the light killeth
the poor and
needy, and in

thief.

the adulterer waiteth for
the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face.

In
the dark
they dig through houses, which
they had marked for
themselves in
the daytime:
they know not
the light.

the dark
they dig through houses; by day
they shut
themselves in, never to experience
the light.

the waters;
their portion is
cursed in
the earth: he beholdeth not
the way of
the vineyards.
They are but
foam on
the surface of
the water;
their portion of
the land is
cursed, so that no one turns toward
their vineyards.
The womb shall
forget him;
the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.

them;
the worm feeds on
them;
they are remembered no more. So injustice is like a broken tree.

They are
exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low;
they are taken out of
the way as all other, and cut off as
the tops of

they are brought low and gathered up like all others;
they are cut off like heads of grain.

Is
there any number of his armies? and upon whom
doth not his light arise?
Can His troops be numbered? On whom does His light not rise?
How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?
How then can a man be just before God? How can one born of woman be pure?
Behold even to
the moon, and it shineth not;
yea,
the stars are not pure in his sight.
If even
the moon does not
shine, and
the stars are not pure in His sight,
How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?
how much less man, who is but a
maggot, and
the son of man, who is but a worm!”
