Therefore said we, that it shall be, when they should so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say again, Behold the pattern of the altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices; but it is a witness between us and you.
Therefore we said, ‘If they ever say this to us or to our descendants, we will answer: Look at the
replica of the altar of the LORD that our fathers made, not for burnt offerings or sacrifices, but as a witness between us and you.’
And it came to pass a long
time after that the LORD had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and
stricken in age.
A long time after the LORD had given Israel rest from all the enemies around them, when Joshua was old and well along in years,
And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.
And Joshua said to all the people, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your fathers, including Terah the father of Abraham and
Nahor, lived beyond the Euphrates and worshiped other gods.
And when they
cried unto the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.
So your fathers
cried out to the LORD, and He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, over whom He brought the sea and
engulfed them. Your very eyes saw what I did to the Egyptians. Then you lived in the wilderness for a long
time.
And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of
Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
Some
time later, Joshua son of
Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.
Neither did
Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of
Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of
Megiddo and her towns: but the
Canaanites would dwell in that land.
At that
time Manasseh failed to drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean, Taanach,
Dor, Ibleam,
Megiddo, and their villages; for the
Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land.
And they
slew of Moab at that
time about ten thousand men, all
lusty, and all men of valour; and there escaped not a man.
At that
time they struck down about ten thousand Moabites, all
robust and
valiant men. Not one of them escaped.
And
Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the
fleece; let it now be dry only upon the
fleece, and upon all the ground let there be
dew.
Then
Gideon said to God, “Do not be
angry with me; let me speak one more
time. Please allow me one more test with the
fleece. This
time let it be dry, and the ground covered with
dew.”
The trees went forth on a
time to
anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.
One day the trees set out to
anoint a king for themselves. They said to the olive tree, ‘Reign over us.’
And after
Abimelech there arose to defend Israel
Tola the son of Puah, the son of
Dodo, a man of
Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in mount Ephraim.
After the
time of
Abimelech, a man of
Issachar,
Tola son of Puah, the son of
Dodo, rose up to save Israel. He lived in Shamir, in the hill country of Ephraim.
Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the
time of your
tribulation.
Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you in your time of trouble.”
And it came to pass in process of
time, that the children of
Ammon made war against Israel.
Some
time later, when the
Ammonites fought against Israel
While Israel dwelt in
Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of
Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that
time?
For three hundred years Israel has lived in
Heshbon, Aroer, and their villages, as well as all the cities along the banks of the
Arnon. Why did you not take them back during that
time?
Then said they unto him, Say now
Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to
pronounce it right. Then they took him, and
slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that
time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
they told him, “Please say
Shibboleth.” If he said, “Sibboleth,” because he could not
pronounce it correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. So at that
time 42,000 Ephraimites were killed.
But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
But his wife replied, “If the LORD had intended to kill us, He would not have accepted the burnt offering and the grain offering from our hands, nor would He have shown us all these things or spoken to us this way.”
And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at
times in the camp of
Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.
And the Spirit of the LORD began to
stir him at Mahaneh-
dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.
(Now his father and mother did not know this was from the LORD, who was seeking an occasion to move against the Philistines; for at that time the Philistines were ruling over Israel.)
And after a
time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the
carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a
swarm of bees and honey in the
carcase of the lion.
When
Samson returned later to take her, he left the road to see the lion’s
carcass, and in it was a
swarm of bees, along with their honey.
But it came to pass within a while after, in the
time of wheat harvest, that
Samson visited his wife with a
kid; and he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber. But her father would not suffer him to go in.
Later on, at the
time of the wheat harvest,
Samson took a young goat and went to visit his wife. “I want to go to my wife in her room,” he said. But her father would not let him enter.
And
Samson said concerning them, Now shall I be more
blameless than the Philistines, though I do them a displeasure.
And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was
Delilah.
Some
time later,
Samson fell in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was
Delilah.
And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast
mocked me these three
times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.
“How can you say, ‘I love you,’” she asked, “when your heart is not with me? This is the third
time you have
mocked me and failed to
reveal to me the source of your great strength!”
And she said, The Philistines be upon thee,
Samson. And he
awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other
times before, and
shake myself. And he
wist not that the LORD was departed from him.
Then she called out, “
Samson, the Philistines are here!” When
Samson awoke from his sleep, he thought, “I will escape as I did before and
shake myself free.” But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him.
In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.
In those days there was no king in Israel, and the tribe of the Danites was looking for territory to occupy. For up to that time they had not come into an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.
And they set them up
Micah’s
graven image, which he made, all the
time that the house of God was in
Shiloh.
So they set up for themselves
Micah’s
graven image, and it was there the whole
time the house of God was in
Shiloh.
And the children of Benjamin were numbered at that time out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew sword, beside the inhabitants of Gibeah, which were numbered seven hundred chosen men.
On that day the Benjamites
mobilized 26,000
swordsmen from their cities, in addition to the 700 select men of Gibeah.
And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in
array against Gibeah, as at other
times.
On the third day the Israelites went up against the Benjamites and
arrayed themselves against Gibeah as they had done before.
And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to
smite of the people, and kill, as at other
times, in the
highways, of which one goeth up to the house of God, and the other to Gibeah in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
The Benjamites came out against them and were drawn away from the city. They began to attack the people as before, killing about thirty men of Israel in the fields and on the roads, one of which led up to
Bethel and the other to Gibeah.
And Benjamin came again at that
time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of
Jabesh-
gilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.
And at that
time the Benjamites returned and were given the women who were
spared from
Jabesh-
gilead. But there were not enough women for all of them.
And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to
complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this
time, that ye should be guilty.
When their fathers or brothers come to us to
complain, we will tell them, ‘Do us a favor by helping them, since we did not get wives for each of them in the war. Since you did not actually give them your daughters, you have no guilt.’”
And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.
And at that time, each of the Israelites returned from there to his own tribe and clan, each to his own inheritance.
And she said, I pray you, let me
glean and gather after the reapers among the
sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she
tarried a little in the house.
She has said, ‘Please let me
glean and gather among the
sheaves after the harvesters.’ So she came out and has continued from morning until now, except that she rested a short
time in the shelter.”
Now this was the manner in former
time in Israel concerning
redeeming and concerning changing, for to
confirm all things; a man
plucked off his
shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.
Now in former
times in Israel, concerning the
redemption or exchange of property, to make any matter legally binding a man would remove his
sandal and give it to the other party, and this was a
confirmation in Israel.
And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
And whenever the day came for Elkanah to present his sacrifice, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters.
Count not thine
handmaid for a daughter of
Belial: for out of the abundance of my
complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; for all this
time I have been praying out of the depth of my
anguish and grief.”
Wherefore it came to pass, when the
time was come about after
Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.
So in the course of
time,
Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the LORD.”
And
Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is
exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I
rejoice in thy salvation.
At that
time Hannah prayed: “My heart rejoices in the LORD in whom my horn is
exalted. My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, for I
rejoice in Your salvation.
And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine
anointed for ever.
Then I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest. He will do whatever is in My heart and mind. And I will build for him an
enduring house, and he will walk before My
anointed one for all
time.
And it came to pass at that
time, when
Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax
dim, that he could not see;
And at that
time Eli, whose
eyesight had grown so
dim that he could not see, was lying in his room.
And the LORD called Samuel again the third
time. And he arose and went to
Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou
didst call me. And
Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.
Once again, for the third
time, the LORD called to Samuel. He got up, went to
Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you have called me.” Then
Eli realized that it was the LORD who was calling the boy.
And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
Then the LORD came and stood there, calling as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant is
listening.”
And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast born a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.
As she was dying, the women attending to her said, “Do not be afraid, for you have given birth to a son!” But she did not
respond or pay any
heed.
And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjath-jearim, that the
time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel
lamented after the LORD.
And from that day a long
time passed, twenty years in all, as the ark remained at Kiriath-jearim. And all the house of Israel
mourned and sought after the LORD.
As soon as ye be come into the city, ye shall
straightway find him, before he go up to the high place to eat: for the people will not eat until he come, because he
doth bless the sacrifice; and afterwards they eat that be
bidden. Now therefore get you up; for about this
time ye shall find him.
As soon as you enter the city, you will find him before he goes up to the high place to eat. The people will not eat until he comes, because he must
bless the sacrifice; after that, the guests will eat. Go up at once; you will find him.”
To
morrow about this
time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt
anoint him to be captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me.
“At this
time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you are to
anoint him leader over My people Israel; he will save them from the hand of the Philistines. For I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come to Me.”
And the
cook took up the shoulder, and that which was upon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold that which is left! set it before thee, and eat: for unto this
time hath it been kept for thee since I said, I have invited the people. So Saul did eat with Samuel that day.
So the
cook picked up the leg and what was attached to it and set it before Saul. Then Samuel said, “Here is what was kept back. It was set apart for you. Eat, for it has been kept for you for this occasion, from the
time I said, ‘I have invited the people.’” So Saul
dined with Samuel that day.
And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of
Jabesh-
gilead, To
morrow, by that
time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of
Jabesh; and they were
glad.
And he
tarried seven days, according to the set
time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to
Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.
And Saul waited seven days for the
time appointed by Samuel, but Samuel did not come to
Gilgal, and the troops began to desert Saul.
And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at
Michmash;
“What have you done?” Samuel asked. And Saul replied, “When I saw that the troops were deserting me, and that you did not come at the appointed
time and the Philistines were gathering at
Michmash,
And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done
foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.
“You have acted
foolishly,” Samuel declared. “You have not kept the command that the LORD your God gave you; if you had, the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel for all
time.
And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring
hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that
time with the children of Israel.
Then Saul said to
Ahijah, “Bring the ark of God.” (For at that
time it was with the Israelites.)
Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that
time, which went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and
Jonathan.
And the Hebrews who had previously gone up into the surrounding camps of the Philistines now went over to the Israelites who were with Saul and
Jonathan.
And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.
Then Saul built an altar to the LORD; it was the first time he had built an altar to the LORD.
And it came to pass on the
morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he
prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other
times: and there was a
javelin in Saul’s hand.
The next day a spirit of distress sent from God came upon Saul, and he
prophesied inside the house while David played the
harp as usual. Now Saul was holding a
spear,
But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul’s daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.
So when it was time to give Saul’s daughter Merab to David, she was given in marriage to Adriel of Meholah.
And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a
snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the
twain.
“I will give her to David,” Saul thought, “so that she may be a
snare to him, and the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” So Saul said to David, “For a second
time now you can be my son-in-law.”
Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David
behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.
Every
time the
Philistine commanders came out for battle, David was more successful than all of Saul’s officers, so that his name was highly esteemed.
And
Jonathan called David, and
Jonathan shewed him all those things. And
Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in
times past.
So
Jonathan summoned David and told him all these things. Then
Jonathan brought David to Saul to serve him as he had before.
And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they
prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third
time, and they
prophesied also.
When this was reported to Saul, he sent more messengers, but they began to
prophesy as well. So Saul tried again and sent messengers a third
time, and even they began to
prophesy.
And
Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to
morrow any
time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and
shew it thee;
and
Jonathan said, “By the LORD, the God of Israel, I will sound out my father by this
time tomorrow or the next day. If he is favorable toward you, will I not send for you and tell you?
And the king sat upon his seat, as at other
times, even upon a seat by the wall: and
Jonathan arose, and
Abner sat by Saul’s side, and David’s place was empty.
He sat in his usual place by the wall, opposite
Jonathan and beside
Abner, but David’s place was empty.
And it came to pass in the morning, that
Jonathan went out into the field at the
time appointed with David, and a little
lad with him.
In the morning
Jonathan went out to the field for the appointment with David, and a small boy was with him.
And as soon as the
lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three
times: and they
kissed one another, and
wept one with another, until David exceeded.
When the young man had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone, fell facedown, and bowed three
times. Then he and
Jonathan kissed each other and
wept together—though David
wept more.
And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common,
yea, though it were
sanctified this day in the vessel.
David answered, “Women have indeed been kept from us, as is usual when I set out. And the
equipment of the young men is holy, as it is even on common missions, and all the more at this
time.”
And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold.
So he left them in the care of the king of Moab, and they stayed with him the whole
time David was in the
stronghold.
When Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree in
Ramah, having his
spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him;)
Soon Saul learned that David and his men had been discovered. At that
time Saul was in Gibeah, sitting under the
tamarisk tree on the hill at Gibeah, with his
spear in hand and all his servants standing around him.
Did I then begin to
enquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king
impute any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father: for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.
Was that day the first
time I inquired of God for him? Far be it from me! Let not the king
accuse your servant or any of my father’s household, for your servant knew nothing of this whole
affair—not in part or in whole.”
And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy
shepherds which were with us, we
hurt them not, neither was there ought missing unto them, all the while they were in
Carmel.
Now I hear that it is
time for shearing. When your
shepherds were with us, we did not
harass them, and nothing of theirs was missing the whole
time they were in
Carmel.
But the men were very good unto us, and we were not
hurt, neither missed we any thing, as long as we were
conversant with them, when we were in the fields:
Yet these men were very good to us. When we were in the field, we were not
harassed, and nothing of ours went missing the whole
time we lived among them.
They were a wall unto us both by night and day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.
They were a wall around us, both day and night, the whole
time we were
herding our sheep near them.
Then said
Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me
smite him, I pray thee, with the
spear even to the earth at once, and I will not
smite him the second
time.
Abishai said to David, “
Today God has delivered your enemy into your hand. Now, therefore, please let me thrust the
spear through him into the ground with one stroke. I will not need to strike him twice!”
And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.
And the
time that David lived in
Philistine territory amounted to a year and four months.
And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the
Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.
Now David and his men went up and
raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the
Amalekites. (From ancient
times these people had inhabited the land extending to Shur and Egypt.)
And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring
tidings to
Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines.
David did not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to
Gath, for he said, “Otherwise they will report us, saying, ‘This is what David did.’” And this was David’s custom the whole
time he lived in
Philistine territory.
Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had
lamented him, and buried him in
Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.
Now by this
time Samuel had died, and all Israel had
mourned for him and buried him in
Ramah, his own city. And Saul had removed the mediums and spiritists from the land.
And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said,
Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto
Hebron.
Some
time later, David inquired of the LORD, “Should I go up to one of the towns of Judah?” “Go up,” the LORD answered. Then David asked, “Where should I go?” “To
Hebron,” replied the LORD.
And the
time that David was king in
Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
And the length of
time that David was king in
Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
Then was
Abner very
wroth for the words of
Ish-bosheth, and said, Am I a dog’s head, which against Judah do
shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?
Abner was
furious over
Ish-bosheth’s
accusation. “Am I the head of a dog that belongs to Judah?” he asked. “All this
time I have been
loyal to the house of your father Saul, to his brothers, and to his friends. I have not delivered you into the hand of David, but now you
accuse me of
wrongdoing with this woman!
And
Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in
times past to be king over you:
Now
Abner conferred with the elders of Israel and said, “In the past you sought David as your king.
Also in
time past, when Saul was king over us, thou
wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.
Even in
times past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them back. And to you the LORD said, ‘You will
shepherd My people Israel, and you will be ruler over them.’”
Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.
For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt until this day, but I have moved about with a tent as My dwelling.
And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
and have done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD declares to you that He Himself will establish a house for you.
And after this it came to pass, that David
smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.
Some time later, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took Metheg-ammah from the hand of the Philistines.
And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of
Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his
stead.
Some
time later, the king of the
Ammonites died and was succeeded by his son Hanun.
And it came to pass, after the year was
expired, at the
time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent
Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of
Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David
tarried still at Jerusalem.
In the spring, at the
time when kings march out to war, David sent out
Joab and his servants with the whole army of Israel. They destroyed the
Ammonites and besieged Rabbah, but David remained in Jerusalem.
And when the
mourning was past, David sent and
fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
And when the
time of
mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of the LORD.
And he shall restore the lamb
fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no
pity.
Because he has done this thing and has shown no
pity, he must pay for the lamb four
times over.”
And it came to pass after this, that
Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
After some
time, David’s son Amnon fell in love with Tamar, the beautiful sister of David’s son
Absalom.
So
Joab sent to Tekoa to bring a wise woman from there. He told her, “Please pretend to be a
mourner; put on clothes for
mourning and do not
anoint yourself with oil. Act like a woman who has
mourned for the dead a long
time.
Therefore
