And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and
slime had they for
morter.
And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and
bake them thoroughly.” So they
used brick instead of stone, and tar instead of mortar.
Or if it be known that the ox hath
used to
push in time past, and his owner hath not kept him in; he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead shall be his own.
But if it was known that the ox had a habit of
goring, yet its owner failed to restrain it, he shall pay full compensation, ox for ox, and the dead animal will be his.
Over against the border shall the rings be for places of the
staves to bear the table.
The rings are to be close to the
rim, to serve as holders for the poles
used to carry the table.
And two golden rings shalt thou make to it under the crown of it, by the two corners thereof, upon the two sides of it shalt thou make it; and they shall be for places for the
staves to bear it
withal.
And make two gold rings below the
molding on opposite sides to hold the poles
used to carry it.
Upon man’s flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you.
It must not be
used to
anoint an ordinary man, and you must not make anything like it with the same formula. It is holy, and it must be holy to you.
And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp,
afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the LORD went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp.
Now Moses
used to take the tent and pitch it at a distance outside the camp. He called it the Tent of Meeting, and
anyone inquiring of the LORD would go to the Tent of Meeting outside the camp.
Over against the border were the rings, the places for the
staves to bear the table.
The rings were placed close to the
rim, to serve as holders for the poles
used to carry the table.
And he made two rings of gold for it under the crown thereof, by the two corners of it, upon the two sides thereof, to be places for the
staves to bear it
withal.
He made two gold rings below the
molding on opposite sides to hold the poles
used to carry it.
All the gold that was occupied for the work in all the work of the holy place, even the gold of the offering, was twenty and nine talents, and seven hundred and thirty shekels, after the
shekel of the sanctuary.
All the gold from the wave offering
used for the work on the sanctuary totaled 29 talents and 730 shekels, according to the sanctuary
shekel.
And of the hundred talents of silver were cast the sockets of the sanctuary, and the sockets of the
vail; an hundred sockets of the hundred talents, a talent for a
socket.
The hundred talents of silver were
used to cast the bases of the sanctuary and the bases of the
veil—100 bases from the 100 talents, one talent per base.
And
therewith he made the sockets to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the
brasen altar, and the
brasen grate for it, and all the vessels of the altar,
He
used it to make the bases for the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, the bronze altar and its bronze
grating, all the utensils for the altar,
And the fat of the beast that dieth of itself, and the fat of that which is
torn with beasts, may be
used in any other use: but ye shall in no wise eat of it.
The fat of an animal found dead or
mauled by wild beasts may be
used for any other purpose, but you must not eat it.
And upon
whatsoever any of them, when they are dead,
doth fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or
raiment, or skin, or
sack,
whatsoever vessel it be, wherein any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the even; so it shall be
cleansed.
When one of them dies and falls on something, that article becomes unclean; any article of wood, clothing, leather,
sackcloth, or any
implement used for work must be
rinsed with water and will remain unclean until evening; then it will be clean.
And he shall look on the plague on the seventh day: if the plague be spread in the garment, either in the
warp, or in the
woof, or in a skin, or in any work that is made of skin; the plague is a
fretting leprosy; it is unclean.
On the seventh day the priest shall reexamine it, and if the
mildew has spread in the
fabric,
weave,
knit, or leather, then regardless of how it is
used, it is a
harmful mildew; the article is unclean.
After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of
Canaan,
whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.
You must not follow the practices of the land of Egypt, where you
used to live, and you must not follow the practices of the land of
Canaan, into which I am bringing you. You must not walk in their customs.
And their charge shall be the ark, and the table, and the
candlestick, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary
wherewith they minister, and the hanging, and all the service thereof.
Their duties were the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the articles of the sanctuary
used with them, and the
curtain—all the service for these items.
And they shall take a cloth of blue, and cover the
candlestick of the light, and his lamps, and his
tongs, and his snuffdishes, and all the oil vessels thereof,
wherewith they minister unto it:
They are to take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand
used for light, together with its lamps,
wick trimmers, and
trays, as well as the jars of oil with which to supply it.
And they shall put upon it all the vessels thereof,
wherewith they minister about it, even the censers, the fleshhooks, and the shovels, and the basons, all the vessels of the altar; and they shall spread upon it a covering of badgers skins, and put to the
staves of it.
and place on it all the vessels
used to serve there: the firepans, meat forks, shovels, and
sprinkling bowls—all the
equipment of the altar. They are to spread over it a covering of fine leather and
insert the poles.
Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service.
“Accept these gifts from them, that they may be used in the work of the Tent of Meeting. And give them to the Levites, to each man according to his service.”
Make thee two
trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps.
“Make two
trumpets of hammered silver to be
used for calling the congregation and for having the camps set out.
The
Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;
(The Emites used to live there, a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites.
The Horims also dwelt in
Seir beforetime; but the children of
Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their
stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.
The Horites
used to live in
Seir, but the descendants of
Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land that the LORD gave them as their possession.)
(That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the
Ammonites call them Zamzummims;
(That too was regarded as the land of the
Rephaim, who
used to live there, though the
Ammonites called them Zamzummites.
And the rest of
Gilead, and all
Bashan, being the kingdom of
Og, gave I unto the half tribe of
Manasseh; all the region of
Argob, with all
Bashan, which was called the land of giants.
And it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an
heifer, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;
Then the elders of the city nearest the
victim shall take a
heifer that has never been yoked or
used for work,
As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered
thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
just as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded the Israelites. He built it according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses: “an altar of uncut stones on which no iron tool has been used.” And on it they offered burnt offerings to the LORD, and they sacrificed peace offerings.
And the name of
Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
(
Hebron used to be called Kiriath-arba, after Arba, the greatest man among the
Anakim.) Then the land had rest from war.
So his father went down unto the woman: and
Samson made there a feast; for so
used the young men to do.
Then his father went to visit the woman, and
Samson prepared a feast there, as was customary for the
bridegroom.
But
Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had
used as his friend.
and his wife was given to one of the men who had accompanied him.
And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
He replied, “If they
tie me up with new ropes that have never been
used, I will become as weak as any other man.”
And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:
When David came to the summit, where he
used to worship God, Hushai the Archite was there to meet him with his
robe torn and dust on his head.
Then she spake, saying, They were
wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at
Abel: and so they ended the matter.
Then the woman said, “Long ago they
used to say, ‘Seek counsel at
Abel,’ and that is how disputes were settled.
Then King
Asa summoned all the men of Judah, with no exceptions, and they carried away the stones of
Ramah and the timbers
Baasha had
used for building. And with these materials King
Asa built up Geba of Benjamin, as well as
Mizpah.
But
Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may
enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is
Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of
Elijah.
But
Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no prophet of the LORD here? Let us inquire of the LORD through him.” And one of the servants of the king of Israel answered, “
Elisha son of Shaphat is here. He
used to pour water on the hands of
Elijah.”
Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house,
wheresoever any breach shall be found.
Let every priest receive it from his
constituency, and let it be
used to repair any damage found in the temple.”
Howbeit there were not made for the house of the LORD
bowls of silver,
snuffers, basons,
trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD:
However, the money brought into the house of the LORD was not
used for making silver basins,
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls,
trumpets, or any articles of gold or silver for the house of the LORD.
And
Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
And
Elisha died and was buried. Now the
Moabite raiders
used to come into the land every spring.
And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and
used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire and practiced
divination and
soothsaying. They devoted themselves to doing evil in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger.
And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and
used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
He sacrificed his own son in the fire, practiced
sorcery and
divination, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did great evil in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger.
And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the
plummet of the house of
Ahab: and I will
wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a
dish,
wiping it, and turning it
upside down.
I will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line
used against Samaria and the
plumb line
used against the house of
Ahab, and I will
wipe out Jerusalem as one wipes out a
bowl—
wiping it and turning it
upside down.
And the pots, and the shovels, and the
snuffers, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass
wherewith they ministered, took they away.
They also took away the pots, shovels,
wick trimmers, dishes, and all the articles of bronze
used in the temple service.
And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.
Some of them were in charge of the articles used in worship, to count them whenever they were brought in or taken out.
He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.
He also made ten basins for washing and placed five on the south side and five on the north. The parts of the burnt offering were
rinsed in them, but the priests
used the Sea for washing.
Then King
Asa brought all the men of Judah, and they carried away the stones of
Ramah and the timbers
Baasha had
used for building. And with these materials he built up Geba and
Mizpah.
For the sons of
Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they
bestow upon
Baalim.
For the sons of that wicked woman
Athaliah had broken into the house of God and had even
used the sacred objects of the house of the LORD for the Baals.
And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of
Hinnom: also he observed times, and
used enchantments, and
used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
He sacrificed his sons in the fire in the Valley of
Hinnom. He practiced
sorcery,
divination, and
witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did great evil in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger.
And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.
Then too, I saw the burial of the wicked who
used to go in and out of the holy place, and they were praised in the city where they had done so. This too is
futile.
A wild
ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not
weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
a wild
donkey at home in the wilderness,
sniffing the wind in the heat of her desire. Who can restrain her passion? All who seek her need not
weary themselves; in mating season they will find her.
The caldrons also, and the shovels, and the
snuffers, and the
bowls, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass
wherewith they ministered, took they away.
They also took away the pots, shovels,
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls, dishes, and all the articles of bronze
used in the temple service.
As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty: but they made the images of their abominations and of their
detestable things therein: therefore have I set it far from them.
His beautiful ornaments they transformed into pride and
used them to fashion their
vile images and
detestable idols. Therefore I will make these into something unclean for them.
And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches, which hath
devoured her fruit, so that she hath no strong rod to be a
sceptre to rule. This is a
lamentation, and shall be for a
lamentation.
Fire has gone out from its main branch and
devoured its fruit; on it no strong branch remains fit for a ruler’s
scepter.’ This is a
lament and shall be
used as a
lament.”
Behold, the princes of Israel, every one were in thee to their power to shed blood.
See how every prince of Israel within you has used his power to shed blood.
The people of the land have practiced
extortion and committed
robbery. They have
oppressed the poor and
needy and have exploited the foreign resident without justice.
Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will even do according to thine anger, and according to thine
envy which thou hast
used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee.
therefore as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will treat you according to the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred against them, and I will make Myself known among them when I judge you.
And the four tables were of
hewn stone for the burnt offering, of a
cubit and an half long, and a
cubit and an half broad, and one
cubit high:
whereupon also they laid the instruments
wherewith they
slew the burnt offering and the sacrifice.
There were also four tables of dressed stone for the burnt offering, each a
cubit and a half long, a
cubit and a half wide, and a
cubit high. On these were placed the utensils
used to slaughter the burnt offerings and the other sacrifices.
The holy portion of the land shall be for the priests the ministers of the sanctuary, which shall come near to minister unto the LORD: and it shall be a place for their houses, and an holy place for the sanctuary.
It will be a holy portion of the land to be used by the priests who minister in the sanctuary, who draw near to minister before the LORD. It will be a place for their houses, as well as a holy area for the sanctuary.
And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not
fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.
Along both banks of the river, fruit trees of all kinds will grow. Their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. Each month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will be
used for food and their leaves for
healing.”
I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
I spoke through the prophets and multiplied their visions; I gave parables through the prophets.
And all the
graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the
hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay
desolate: for she gathered it of the
hire of an
harlot, and they shall return to the
hire of an
harlot.
All her carved images will be
smashed to pieces; all her wages will be burned in the fire, and I will destroy all her idols. Since she collected the wages of a
prostitute, they will be
used again on a
prostitute.
Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a
penny.
Show Me the coin
used for the tax.” And they brought Him a
denarius.
And they took counsel, and bought with them the
potter’s field, to
bury strangers in.
After
conferring together, they
used the money to
buy the
potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.
And the disciples of John and of the
Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the
Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
Now John’s disciples and the
Pharisees were often fasting. So people came to Jesus and asked, “Why don’t Your disciples fast like John’s disciples and those of the
Pharisees?”
The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and
begged?
At this, his neighbors and those who had formerly seen him
begging began to ask, “Isn’t this the man who
used to sit and
beg?”
This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a
thief, and had the
bag, and bare what was put therein.
Judas did not say this because he cared about the poor, but because he was a
thief. As keeper of the money
bag, he
used to take from what was put into it.
And they knew that it was he which sat for
alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and
amazement at that which had happened unto him.
they recognized him as the man who
used to sit
begging at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with wonder and
amazement at what had happened to him.
But there was a certain man, called Simon, which
beforetime in the same city
used sorcery, and
bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
Prior to that time, a man named Simon had practiced
sorcery in the city and
astounded the people of Samaria. He claimed to be someone great,
Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed
baptized with water; but ye shall be
baptized with the Holy Ghost.
Then I remembered the word of the Lord, as He
used to say, ‘John
baptized with water, but you will be
baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books and burned them in front of
everyone. When the value of the books was calculated, the total came to fifty thousand
drachmas.
Which when they had taken up, they
used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands,
strake sail, and so were driven.
After
hoisting it up, the
crew used ropes to
undergird the ship. And fearing that they would run
aground on the sandbars of
Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor and were driven along.
Their throat is an open
sepulchre; with their tongues they have
used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
“Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice
deceit.” “The
venom of vipers is on their lips.”
I speak after the manner of men because of the
infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto
holiness.
I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. Just as you
used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to escalating wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to
holiness.
If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
If others have this right to your support, shouldn’t we have it all the more? But we did not exercise this right. Instead, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ.
But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.
But I have not
used any of these rights. And I am not writing this to suggest that something be done for me. Indeed, I would rather die than let
anyone nullify my
boast.
For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the
circumcision.
For before certain men came from James, he
used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself, for fear of those in the
circumcision group.
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
in which you
used to walk when you
conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience.
In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
When you lived among them, you also used to walk in these ways.
As you know, we never
used words of
flattery or any pretext for
greed. God is our witness!
For they that have
used the office of a
deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
For those who have served well as deacons acquire for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
Moreover he
sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
In the same way, he
sprinkled with blood the tabernacle and all the vessels
used in worship.
Partly, whilst ye were made a
gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so
used.
Sometimes you were publicly exposed to
ridicule and persecution; at other times you were partners with those who were so treated.
Four hundred thirty and five camels, seven thousand thirty and six horses, two hundred forty and five mules, five thousand five hundred twenty and five beasts used to the yoke.
And that the faces of them which have
used abstinence shall
shine above the stars, whereas our faces shall be blacker than darkness?
And when the men of the city saw them, they took up their weapons, and went out of the city to the top of the hill: and every man that
used a
sling kept them from coming up by casting of stones against them.
For whilst they
slew their children in sacrifices, or
used secret ceremonies, or made revellings of strange rites;
And punishments came upon the sinners not without former signs by the force of thunders: for they suffered justly according to their own wickedness,
insomuch as they
used a more hard and
hateful behaviour toward strangers.
And not only so, but
peradventure some respect shall be had of those, because they
used strangers not friendly:
Now when the game that was used every faith year was kept at Tyrus, the king being present,
Came to king
Demetrius in the hundred and one and
fiftieth year, presenting unto him a crown of gold, and a palm, and also of the boughs which were
used solemnly in the temple: and so that day he held his peace.
