Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt
beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, will be taken away to be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
Then said
Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?
But
Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “
Will there not at least be peace and security in my lifetime?”
And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name.
Manasseh also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem I
will put My Name.”
And he set a
graven image of the
grove that he had made in the house, of which the LORD said to David, and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel,
will I put my name for ever:
Manasseh even took the carved Asherah pole he had made and set it up in the temple, of which the LORD had said to David and his son Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I
will establish My Name
forever.
Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.
I
will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to
wander from the land that I gave to their fathers, if only they are careful to do all I have commanded them—the whole Law that My servant Moses commanded them.”
Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that
whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall
tingle.
this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I am bringing such
calamity upon Jerusalem and Judah that the news
will reverberate in the ears of all who hear it.
And I
will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the
plummet of the house of
Ahab: and I
will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a
dish,
wiping it, and turning it
upside down.
I
will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line used against Samaria and the
plumb line used against the house of
Ahab, and I
will wipe out Jerusalem as one wipes out a
bowl—
wiping it and turning it
upside down.
And I
will forsake the
remnant of mine inheritance, and deliver them into the hand of their enemies; and they shall become a prey and a
spoil to all their enemies;
So I
will forsake the
remnant of My inheritance and deliver them into the hands of their enemies. And they
will become
plunder and
spoil to all their enemies,
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:
that this is what the LORD says: I am about to bring
calamity on this place and on its people, according to all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read,
Because they have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might
provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be
kindled against this place, and shall not be
quenched.
because they have
forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might
provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. My wrath
will be
kindled against this place and
will not be
quenched.’
Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
‘Therefore I
will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you
will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes
will not see all the
calamity that I
will bring on this place.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.
For the LORD had said, “I
will remove Judah from My sight, just as I removed Israel. I
will reject this city Jerusalem, which I chose, and the temple of which I said, ‘My Name shall be there.’”
And Gedaliah
sware to them, and to their men, and said unto them, Fear not to be the servants of the Chaldees: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon; and it shall be well with you.
And Gedaliah took an oath before them and their men,
assuring them, “Do not be afraid of the servants of the Chaldeans. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it
will be well with you.”
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest
bless me indeed, and
enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not
grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
And Jabez called out to the God of Israel, “If only You would
bless me and
enlarge my territory! May Your hand be with me and keep me from
harm, so that I
will be free from pain.” And God granted the request of Jabez.
Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through
therewith; lest these
uncircumcised come and
abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was
sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
Then Saul said to his
armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run it through me, or these
uncircumcised men
will come and
torture me!” But his
armor-bearer was
terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou
wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.
Even in times past, while Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them back. And the LORD your God said, ‘You
will shepherd My people Israel, and you
will be ruler over them.’”
And the inhabitants of
Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come
hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of
Zion, which is the city of David.
The people of
Jebus said to David, “You
will never get in here.” Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of
Zion (that is, the City of David).
And David said,
Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So
Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.
Now David had said, “
Whoever is the first to strike down a Jebusite
will become chief commander.” And
Joab son of Zeruiah went up first, and he became the chief.
And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come
peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be
knit unto you: but if ye be come to
betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look
thereon, and
rebuke it.
And David went out to meet them, saying, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, my heart
will be united with you; but if you have come to
betray me to my enemies when my hands are free of violence, may the God of our fathers see it and judge you.”
And there fell some of
Manasseh to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle: but they helped them not: for the lords of the Philistines upon
advisement sent him away, saying, He
will fall to his master Saul to the
jeopardy of our heads.
Some from
Manasseh defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. (They did not help the Philistines because the
Philistine rulers consulted and sent David away, saying, “It
will cost us our heads if he defects to his master Saul.”)
And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and
wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I
will deliver them into thine hand.
So David inquired of God, “Should I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” “Go,” replied the LORD, “for I will deliver them into your hand.”
And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the
mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to
smite the host of the Philistines.
As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the
balsam trees, move out to battle, because this
will mean that God has marched out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
Saying, Unto thee
will I give the land of
Canaan, the lot of your inheritance;
‘I
will give you the land of
Canaan as the portion of your inheritance.’
Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth.
Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD, for He is coming to judge the earth.
And I have been with thee
whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make for you a name like the greatest in the land.
Also I
will ordain a place for my people Israel, and
will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,
And I
will provide a place for My people Israel and
will plant them so that they may dwell in a place of their own and be disturbed no more. No longer
will the sons of wickedness
oppress them as they did at the beginning
And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I
will subdue all thine enemies.
Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD
will build thee an house.
and have done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel. And I
will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the LORD
will build a house for you.
And it shall come to pass, when thy days be
expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I
will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I
will establish his kingdom.
And when your days are fulfilled and you go to be with your fathers, I
will raise up your
descendant after you, one of your own sons, and I
will establish his kingdom.
He shall build me an house, and I
will stablish his throne for ever.
He
will build a house for Me, and I
will establish his throne
forever.
I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
I will be his Father, and he will be My son. And I will never remove My loving devotion from him as I removed it from your predecessor.
But I
will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for
evermore.
But I
will set him over My house and My kingdom
forever, and his throne
will be established
forever.”
Let it even be established, that thy name may be
magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.
so that Your name
will be established and
magnified forever when it is said, ‘The LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, is God over Israel.’ And may the house of Your servant David be established before You.
For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou
wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.
For You, my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will build a house for him. Therefore Your servant has found the courage to pray before You.
Now therefore let it please thee to
bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.
So now You have been pleased to
bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue
forever before You. For You, O LORD, have blessed it, and it
will be blessed
forever.”
And David said, I
will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of
Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
And David said, “I
will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to
console Hanun concerning his father. But when David’s servants arrived in the land of the
Ammonites to
console him,
And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of
Ammon be too strong for thee, then I
will help thee.
“If the Arameans are too strong for me,” said
Joab, “then you
will come to my
rescue. And if the
Ammonites are too strong for you, then I
will come to your
rescue.
And
Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then
doth my lord require this thing? why
will he be a cause of
trespass to Israel?
But
Joab replied, “May the LORD multiply His troops a hundred times over. My lord the king, are they not all servants of my lord? Why does my lord want to do this? Why should he bring guilt on Israel?”
Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
“Go and tell David that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am offering you three options. Choose one of them, and I will carry it out against you.’”
And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the
threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.
Ornan said to David, “My lord the king may take whatever seems good. Look, I
will give the oxen for the burnt offerings, the
threshing sledges for the wood, and the wheat for the grain offering—I
will give it all.”
And king David said to Ornan,
Nay; but I
will verily buy it for the full price: for I
will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.
“No,” replied King David, “I
insist on paying the full price, for I
will not take for the LORD what belongs to you, nor
will I offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”
And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding
magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I
will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.
And David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent—famous and glorious throughout all lands. Therefore I must make preparations for it.” So David made
lavish preparations before his death.
Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.
But a son will be born to you who will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name will be Solomon, and I will grant to Israel peace and quiet during his reign.
He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.
He is the one who
will build a house for My Name. He
will be My son, and I
will be his Father. And I
will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel
forever.’
Then shalt thou
prosper, if thou takest
heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage;
dread not, nor be dismayed.
Then you
will succeed, if you carefully follow the statutes and ordinances that the LORD commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and
courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.
Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.
Now set your heart and soul to seek the LORD your God. Get started building the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy articles of God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the LORD.”
And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.
And He said to me, ‘Solomon your son is the one who will build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him as My son, and I will be his Father.
Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.
I
will establish his kingdom
forever, if he
resolutely carries out My commandments and ordinances, as is being done this day.’
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a
willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he
will be found of thee; but if thou
forsake him, he
will cast thee off for ever.
As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve Him wholeheartedly and with a
willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands the intent of every thought. If you seek Him, He
will be found by you; but if you
forsake Him, He
will reject you
forever.
And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God,
will be with thee; he
will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and
courageous, and do it. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He
will neither fail you nor
forsake you before all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.
And, behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites, even they shall be with thee for all the service of the house of God: and there shall be with thee for all manner of
workmanship every
willing skilful man, for any manner of service: also the princes and all the people
will be wholly at thy commandment.
The divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the service of the house of God, and every
willing man of every skill
will be at your
disposal for the work. The officials and all the people are fully at your command.”
The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. And who then is
willing to
consecrate his service this day unto the LORD?
Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king’s work, offered willingly,
Then the leaders of the households, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.
Then the people
rejoiced, for that they offered
willingly, because with perfect heart they offered
willingly to the LORD: and David the king also
rejoiced with great joy.
And the people
rejoiced at the
willing response of their leaders, for they had given to the LORD freely and wholeheartedly. And King David also
rejoiced greatly.
But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from You, and from Your own hand we have given to You.
I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee.
I know, my God, that You test the heart and delight in uprightness. All these things I have given
willingly and with an upright heart, and now I have seen Your people who are present here giving
joyfully and
willingly to You.
In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.
That night God appeared to Solomon and said, “Ask, and I will give it to you!”
Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
therefore wisdom and knowledge have been granted to you. And I will also give you riches and wealth and honor unlike anything given to the kings before you or after you.”
And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.
The house that I am building will be great, for our God is greater than all gods.
Send me now therefore a man
cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and
crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the
cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.
Send me, therefore, a
craftsman skilled in engraving to work with gold and silver, with bronze and iron, and with purple,
crimson, and blue yarn. He
will work with my
craftsmen in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David provided.
Send me also
cedar trees,
fir trees, and
algum trees, out of
Lebanon: for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in
Lebanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,
Send me also
cedar,
cypress, and
algum logs from
Lebanon, for I know that your servants have skill to cut timber there. And indeed, my servants
will work with yours
Even to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great.
to prepare for me timber in abundance, because the temple I am building will be great and wonderful.
And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.
I will pay your servants, the woodcutters, 20,000 cors of ground wheat, 20,000 cors of barley, 20,000 baths of wine, and 20,000 baths of olive oil.”
Huram said moreover, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son,
endued with
prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
And
Hiram added: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth! He has given King David a wise son with insight and understanding, who
will build a temple for the LORD and a royal palace for himself.
The son of a woman of the daughters of
Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in
crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every
device which shall be put to him, with thy
cunning men, and with the
cunning men of my lord David thy father.
He is the son of a woman from the daughters of
Dan, and his father is a man of Tyre. He is skilled in work with gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple, blue, and
crimson yarn, and fine linen. He is experienced in every kind of engraving and can
execute any design that is given him. He
will work with your
craftsmen and with those of my lord, your father David.
And we
will cut wood out of
Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we
will bring it to thee in flotes by sea to
Joppa; and thou shall carry it up to Jerusalem.
We
will cut logs from
Lebanon, as many as you need, and we
will float them to you as rafts by sea down to
Joppa. Then you can take them up to Jerusalem.”
Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
Nevertheless, you are not the one to build it; but your son, your own offspring, will build the house for My Name.’
Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take
heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!
But will God indeed dwell with man upon the earth? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain You, much less this temple I have built.
Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as
doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then
will I hear from heaven, and
will forgive their sin, and
will heal their land.
and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I
will hear from heaven,
forgive their sin, and
heal their land.
Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears
attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
Now My eyes
will be open and My ears
attentive to the prayers offered in this place.
For now have I chosen and
sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
For I have now chosen and consecrated this temple so that My Name may be there
forever. My eyes and My heart
will be there for all time.
Then
will I
stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.
then I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with your father David when I said, ‘You will never fail to have a man to rule over Israel.’
Then
will I
pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have
sanctified for my name,
will I cast out of my sight, and
will make it to be a
proverb and a
byword among all nations.
then I
will uproot Israel from the soil I have given them, and I
will banish from My presence this temple I have
sanctified for My Name. I
will make it an object of
scorn and
ridicule among all the peoples.
And this house, which is high, shall be an
astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
And when this temple has become a
heap of
rubble, all who pass by it
will be
appalled and say, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’
And it shall be answered, Because they
forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.
And others
will answer, ‘Because they have
forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—because of this, He has brought all this
disaster upon them.’”
Thy father made our yoke
grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the
grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we
will serve thee.
“Your father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should
lighten the burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we
will serve you.”
And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
They replied, “If you
will be kind to these people and please them by speaking kind words to them, they
will be your servants
forever.”
For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I
will put more to your yoke: my father
chastised you with whips, but I
will chastise you with scorpions.
Whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I
will add to your yoke. Whereas my father
scourged you with whips, I
will scourge you with scorpions.’”
And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I
will add
thereto: my father
chastised you with whips, but I
will chastise you with scorpions.
and spoke to them as the young men had
advised, saying, “Whereas my father made your yoke heavy, I
will add to your yoke. Whereas my father
scourged you with whips, I
will scourge you with scorpions.”
And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I
will not destroy them, but I
will grant them some
deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of
Shishak.
When the LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves; I
will not destroy them, but
will soon grant them
deliverance. My wrath
will not be poured out on Jerusalem through
Shishak.
Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
Nevertheless, they will become his servants, so that they may learn the difference between serving Me and serving the kings of other lands.”
And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding
trumpets to cry
alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not
prosper.
Now behold, God Himself is with us as our head, and His priests with their
trumpets sound the battle call against you. O children of Israel, do not fight against the LORD, the God of your fathers, for you
will not succeed.”
And he went out to meet
Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me,
Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he
will be found of you; but if ye
forsake him, he
will forsake you.
So he went out to meet
Asa and said to him, “
Listen to me,
Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He
will be found by you, but if you
forsake Him, He
will forsake you.
Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.
But as for you, be strong; do not be discouraged, for your work will be rewarded.”
There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with
Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
“Let there be a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. See, I have sent you silver and gold. Now go and break your treaty with
Baasha king of Israel, so that he
will withdraw from me.”
For the eyes of the LORD run to and
fro throughout the whole earth, to
shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.
Herein thou hast done
foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
For the eyes of the LORD
roam to and
fro over all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him. You have acted
foolishly in this matter. From now on, therefore, you
will be at war.”
And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.
and next to him, Amasiah son of Zichri, the
volunteer for the LORD, and with him 200,000 mighty men of
valor.
And
Ahab king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat king of Judah,
Wilt thou go with me to
Ramoth-
gilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and we
will be with thee in the war.
Ahab king of Israel asked
Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “
Will you go with me against
Ramoth-
gilead?” And
Jehoshaphat replied, “I am like you, and my people are your people; we
will join you in the war.”
Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to
Ramoth-
gilead to battle, or shall I
forbear? And they said, Go up; for God
will deliver it into the king’s hand.
So the king of Israel assembled the prophets, four hundred men, and asked them, “Should we go to war against
Ramoth-
gilead, or should we
refrain?” “Go up,” they replied, “and God
will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, even what my God saith, that will I speak.
But Micaiah said, “As surely as the LORD lives, I will speak whatever my God tells me.”
And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to
Ramoth-
gilead to battle, or shall I
forbear? And he said, Go ye up, and
prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand.
When Micaiah arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to war against
Ramoth-
gilead, or should we
refrain?” “Go up and triumph,” Micaiah replied, “for they
will be given into your hand.”
And the LORD said, Who shall
entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at
Ramoth-
gilead? And one spake saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.
And the LORD said, ‘Who
will entice Ahab king of Israel to march up and fall at
Ramoth-
gilead?’ And one suggested this, and another that.
Then there came out a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I
will entice him. And the LORD said unto him,
Wherewith?
Then a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I
will entice him.’ ‘By what means?’ asked the LORD.
And he said, I
will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the LORD said, Thou shalt
entice him, and thou shalt also prevail: go out, and do even so.
And he replied, ‘I
will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets.’ ‘You
will surely
entice him and prevail,’ said the LORD. ‘Go and do it.’
And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide
thyself.
Micaiah replied, “You will soon see, on that day when you go and hide in an inner room.”
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, I
will disguise myself, and
will go to the battle; but put thou on thy robes. So the king of Israel
disguised himself; and they went to the battle.
And the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, “I
will disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel
disguised himself and went into battle.
And what cause
soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even
warn them that they
trespass not against the LORD, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not
trespass.
For every dispute that comes before you from your brothers who dwell in their cities—whether it regards
bloodshed or some other
violation of law, commandments, statutes, or ordinances—you are to
warn them, so that they
will not
incur guilt before the LORD and wrath
will not come upon you and your brothers. Do this, and you
will not
incur guilt.
