When the
Almighty was yet
with me, when my children were about me;
when the
Almighty was still
with me and my children were around me,
When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
when my steps were bathed in
cream and the rock poured out for me streams of oil!
The young men saw me, and
hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.
the young men saw me and withdrew, and the old men rose to their feet.
The princes
refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.

refrained from speaking and covered their mouths
with their hands.

But now they that are younger than I have me in
derision, whose fathers I would have
disdained to have set
with the dogs of my flock.
“But now they
mock me, men younger than I am, whose fathers I would have refused to
entrust with my sheep dogs.
They
mar my path, they set forward my
calamity, they have no helper.
They
tear up my path; they profit from my destruction,
with no one to restrain them.

affliction have taken hold upon me.
By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the
collar of my coat.

collar of my
tunic.
Thou art become cruel to me:
with thy strong hand thou opposest
thyself against me.
I went
mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I
cried in the congregation.
I go about
blackened, but not by the sun. I stand up in the assembly and cry for help.

My skin grows black and peels, and my bones burn with fever.
I made a covenant
with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a
maid?

with my eyes. How then could I
gaze with desire at a virgin?

with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to
deceit;
Then let my wife
grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.
then may my own wife
grind grain for another, and may other men sleep
with her.
If I have
withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;
If I have denied the desires of the poor or allowed the widow’s eyes to fail,
Or have eaten my
morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;
if I have eaten my
morsel alone, not sharing it
with the fatherless—
(For from my youth he was brought up
with me, as
with a father, and I have guided her from my mother’s
womb;)
though from my youth I reared him as would a father, and from my mother’s
womb I guided the widow—
If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;
if I have seen one perish for lack of clothing, or a
needy man
without a
cloak,
If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed
with the
fleece of my sheep;
if his heart has not blessed me for warming him
with the
fleece of my sheep,

curse to his soul.
I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking for his life
with a
curse—

if I have
devoured its produce
without payment or broken the spirit of its tenants,
Then was
kindled the wrath of
Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath
kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.
This
kindled the anger of
Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram. He burned
with anger against Job for
justifying himself rather than God,
Also against his three friends was his wrath
kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

chastened also
with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones
with strong pain:
A man is also
chastened on his bed
with pain and constant distress in his bones,
Yet if there is a
messenger on his side, one
mediator in a thousand, to tell a man what is right for him,
He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
He prays to God and finds favor; he sees God’s face and shouts for joy, and God restores His righteousness to that man.
He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have
sinned, and
perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

sinned and
perverted what was right; yet I did not get what I deserved.

without hand.

convulse and pass away; the mighty are removed
without human hand.
For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.

without knowledge.

forever.

with his stroke: then a great
ransom cannot deliver thee.
Be careful that no one lures you
with riches; do not let a large

With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to
shine by the cloud that cometh
betwixt.
He fills His hands
with lightning and commands it to strike its mark.
After it a voice roareth: he thundereth
with the voice of his
excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.
Then there comes a
roaring sound; He thunders
with His
majestic voice. He does not restrain the
lightning when His voice resounds.
God thundereth marvellously
with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot
comprehend.

with doors, when it
brake forth, as if it had issued out of the
womb?
Who enclosed the sea behind doors when it
burst forth from the
womb,
And from the wicked their light is
withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.
Light is
withheld from the wicked, and their upraised arm is broken.
To satisfy the
desolate and waste ground; and to cause the
bud of the tender
herb to spring forth?
to satisfy the
parched wasteland and make it
sprout with tender grass?

hid as
with a stone, and the face of the deep is
frozen.
when the waters become hard as stone and the surface of the deep is
frozen?

rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the

with fervor. He catches the
scent of battle from
afar— the shouts of captains and the cry of war.

with the

contend with the
Almighty? Let him who argues

behemoth, which I made
with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.

Behemoth, which I made along
with you. He feeds on grass like an ox.
The
shady trees cover him
with their shadow; the willows of the
brook compass him about.
He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
Canst thou draw out
leviathan with an hook? or his tongue
with a cord which thou lettest down?
“Can you pull in
Leviathan with a hook or
tie down his tongue
with a rope?

with a
thorn?

pierce his jaw

with barbed irons? or his head
with fish spears?

withholden from thee.

Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for
yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal
with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.
So now, take seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and sacrifice a burnt offering for
yourselves. Then My servant Job will pray for you, for I will accept his prayer and not deal
with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken accurately about Me, as My servant Job has.”
