Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the
abominations that were
spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did
Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.
Furthermore,
Josiah removed the mediums and spiritists, the household gods and idols, and all the
abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem. He did this to carry out the words of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had found in the house of the LORD.
And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he, and all his host, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it; and they built forts against it round
about.
So in the ninth year of
Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his entire army. They
encamped outside the city and built a siege wall all around it.
And the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled by night by the way of the gate between two walls, which is by the king’s garden: (now the Chaldees were against the city round about:) and the king went the way toward the plain.
Then the city was breached; and though the Chaldeans had surrounded the city, all the men of war fled by night by way of the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden. They headed toward the Arabah,
And all the army of the Chaldees, that were with the captain of the guard,
brake down the walls of Jerusalem round
about.
And the whole army of the Chaldeans under the captain of the guard broke down the walls around Jerusalem.
The height of the one
pillar was eighteen cubits, and the
chapiter upon it was brass: and the height of the
chapiter three cubits; and the
wreathen work, and pomegranates upon the
chapiter round
about, all of brass: and like unto these had the second
pillar with
wreathen work.
Each
pillar was eighteen cubits tall. The bronze capital
atop one
pillar was three cubits high, with a network of bronze pomegranates all around. The second
pillar, with its network, was similar.
And he spake kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon;
And he spoke kindly to
Jehoiachin and set his throne
above the thrones of the other kings who were with him in Babylon.
And all their villages that were round
about the same cities, unto
Baal. These were their habitations, and their
genealogy.
and all their surrounding villages as far as
Baal. These were their settlements, and they kept a
genealogical record:
For Judah prevailed
above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the
birthright was Joseph’s:)
And though Judah prevailed over his brothers and a ruler came from him, the
birthright belonged to Joseph.
And they gave them
Hebron in the land of Judah, and the suburbs thereof round
about it.
They were given
Hebron in the land of Judah and its surrounding pasturelands.
And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of
Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities, which are called by their names.
They assigned by lot the cities named
above from the tribes of Judah,
Simeon, and Benjamin.
And they
lodged round
about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and the opening thereof every morning
pertained to them.
They would
spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they were responsible for guarding it and opening it every morning.
And when they had
stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round
about, to carry
tidings unto their idols, and to the people.
They
stripped Saul, cut off his head, took his
armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to
proclaim the news in the temple of their idols and among their people.
And when all
Jabesh-
gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
When the people of
Jabesh-
gilead heard
about everything the Philistines had done to Saul,
And he built the city round
about, even from
Millo round
about: and
Joab repaired the rest of the city.
He built up the city around it, from the supporting terraces to the surrounding wall, while
Joab restored the rest of the city.
And they set themselves in the midst of that
parcel, and delivered it, and
slew the Philistines; and the LORD saved them by a great
deliverance.
But
Eleazar and David stationed themselves in the middle of the field and defended it. They struck down the Philistines, and the LORD brought
about a great victory.
Of the three, he was more honourable than the two; for he was their captain:
howbeit he attained not to the first three.
He was
doubly honored
above the Three, and he became their commander, even though he was not included among the Three.
For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.
It was because you Levites were not with us the first time that the LORD our God
burst forth in anger against us. For we did not
consult Him
about the proper order.”
And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was for song: he
instructed about the song, because he was skilful.
Chenaniah the head
Levite was the director of the music because he was highly skilled.
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods.
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.
And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.
And as if this was a small thing in Your eyes, O God, You have spoken about the future of the house of Your servant and have regarded me as a man of great distinction, O LORD God.
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king.
Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief officials at the king’s side.
Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly
ashamed. And the king said,
Tarry at
Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
When someone came and told David
about his men, he sent messengers to meet them, since the men had been thoroughly
humiliated. The king told them, “Stay in
Jericho until your beards have grown back, and then return.”
But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king’s word was
abominable to
Joab.
But
Joab did not include Levi and Benjamin in the count, because the king’s command was
detestable to him.
Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.
But a son will be born to you who will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name will be Solomon, and I will grant to Israel peace and quiet during his reign.
Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God.
Above all, may the LORD give you insight and understanding when He puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the Law of the LORD your God.
For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:
For according to the final instructions of David, the Levites twenty years of age or older were counted,
This is that Benaiah, who was mighty among the thirty, and above the thirty: and in his course was Ammizabad his son.
This Benaiah was mighty among the Thirty and was over the Thirty, and his son Ammizabad was in charge of his division.
And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the chambers round
about, of the
treasuries of the house of God, and of the
treasuries of the dedicated things:
The plans contained everything David had in mind for the courts of the house of the LORD, for all the surrounding rooms, for the
treasuries of the house of God and of the dedicated things,
Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have of mine own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house,
Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I now give for it my personal treasures of gold and silver, over and above all that I have provided for this holy temple:
Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art
exalted as head
above all.
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the
splendor and the majesty, for everything in heaven and on earth belongs to You. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom, and You are
exalted as head over all.
Behold, I build an house to the name of the LORD my God, to
dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual
shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an
ordinance for ever to Israel.
Behold, I am
about to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God to
dedicate to Him for burning
fragrant incense before Him, for displaying the
showbread continuously, and for making burnt offerings every morning and evening as well as on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts of the LORD our God. This is ordained for Israel
forever.
And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.
The house that I am building will be great, for our God is greater than all gods.
Even to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great.
to prepare for me timber in abundance, because the temple I am building will be great and wonderful.
Also he made a
molten sea of ten cubits from
brim to
brim, round in compass, and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round
about.
He also made the Sea of cast metal. It was circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from
rim to
rim, five cubits in height, and thirty cubits in circumference.
And under it was the
similitude of oxen, which did compass it round
about: ten in a
cubit, compassing the sea round
about. Two rows of oxen were cast, when it was cast.
Below the
rim, figures of oxen
encircled it, ten per
cubit all the way around the Sea, cast in two rows as a part of the Sea.
It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.
The Sea stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east. The Sea rested on them, with all their hindquarters toward the center.
For the cherubims spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the
staves thereof
above.
For the
cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its poles.
And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the
pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the LORD
above the temple, they bowed down on the
pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave
thanks to the LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.”
And when the queen of
Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
Now when the queen of
Sheba heard
about the fame of Solomon, she came to test him with difficult questions. She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large
caravan—with camels bearing spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones. So she came to Solomon and spoke with him
about all that was on her mind.
And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom:
She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your words and wisdom is true.
And it came to pass, when
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt,
whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that
Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
When
Jeroboam son of Nebat heard
about this, he returned from Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon.
And
Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of
Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and
threescore concubines; and
begat twenty and eight sons, and
threescore daughters.)
Rehoboam loved
Maacah daughter of
Absalom more than all his wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he was the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
Now
Jeroboam had sent troops around to
ambush from the rear, so that while he was in front of Judah, the
ambush was behind them.
Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make
about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and
prospered.
So he said to the people of Judah, “Let us build these cities and
surround them with walls and towers, with doors and bars. The land is still ours because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought Him and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and
prospered.
And they
smote all the cities round
about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they
spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much
spoil in them.
and attacked all the cities around
Gerar, because the terror of the LORD had fallen upon them. They
plundered all the cities, since there was much
plunder there.
And when
Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of
Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the
abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the
porch of the LORD.
When
Asa heard these words and the prophecy of
Azariah son of
Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the
detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the
portico of the LORD’s temple.
And all Judah
rejoiced at the oath: for they had
sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round
about.
And all Judah
rejoiced over the oath, for they had
sworn it with all their heart. They had sought Him earnestly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.
And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD. They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.
And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round
about Judah, so that they made no war against
Jehoshaphat.
And the
dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did not make war against
Jehoshaphat.
And it came to pass, when the captains of the
chariots saw
Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they compassed
about him to fight: but
Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.
When the
chariot commanders saw
Jehoshaphat, they said, “This is the king of Israel!” So they turned to fight against him, but
Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him. God drew them away from him.
And the battle increased that day:
howbeit the king of Israel stayed himself up in his
chariot against the Syrians until the even: and
about the time of the sun going down he died.
The battle
raged throughout that day, and the king of Israel
propped himself up in his
chariot facing the Arameans until evening. And at
sunset he died.
So the realm of
Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round
about.
Then
Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.
Behold, with a great plague will the LORD
smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:
So behold, the LORD is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives, and all your possessions with a serious blow.
And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.
So they went throughout Judah and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah and the heads of the families of Israel. And when they came to Jerusalem,
And the Levites shall compass the king round
about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and
whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.
The Levites must
surround the king with weapons in hand, and
anyone who enters the temple must be put to death. You must stay close to the king wherever he goes.”
And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.
He stationed all the troops, with their weapons in hand, surrounding the king by the altar and the temple, from the south side to the north side of the temple.
And the Spirit of God came upon
Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood
above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why
transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot
prosper? because ye have
forsaken the LORD, he hath also
forsaken you.
Then the Spirit of God came upon
Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood up before the people and said to them, “This is what God says: ‘Why do you
transgress the commandments of the LORD so that you cannot
prosper? Because you have
forsaken the LORD, He has
forsaken you.’”
Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And
Amaziah his son reigned in his
stead.
The accounts of the sons of
Joash, as well as the many pronouncements
about him and
about the restoration of the house of God, are indeed written in the Treatise of the Book of the Kings. And his son
Amaziah reigned in his place.
Moreover
Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and
above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle
spear and shield.
Then
Amaziah gathered the people of Judah and assigned them according to their families to commanders of thousands and of hundreds. And he numbered those twenty years of age or older throughout Judah and Benjamin and found 300,000 chosen men able to serve in the army, bearing the
spear and shield.
And
Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.
Amaziah asked the man of God, “What should I do
about the hundred talents I have given to the army of Israel?” And the man of God replied, “The LORD is able to give you much more than this.”
And he went forth and
warred against the Philistines, and
brake down the wall of
Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of
Ashdod, and built cities
about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
Uzziah went out to
wage war against the Philistines, and he
tore down the walls of
Gath, Jabneh, and
Ashdod. Then he built cities near
Ashdod and among the Philistines.
Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the
abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
Moreover,
Ahaz burned incense in the Valley of
Hinnom and sacrificed his sons in the fire, according to the
abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
Then
Hezekiah questioned with the priests and the Levites concerning the heaps.
Then
Hezekiah questioned the priests and Levites
about the heaps,
He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.
he consulted with his leaders and commanders
about stopping up the waters of the springs outside the city, and they helped him carry it out.
Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to
enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
And so when ambassadors of the rulers of Babylon were sent to him to inquire
about the wonder that had happened in the land, God left him alone to test him, that He might know all that was in
Hezekiah’s heart.
But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of
Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed
about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the
fenced cities of Judah.
After this,
Manasseh rebuilt the outer wall of the City of David from west of
Gihon in the valley to the entrance of the Fish Gate, and he brought it around the hill of Ophel and
heightened it considerably. He also stationed military commanders in all the fortified cities of Judah.
And they
brake down the altars of
Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high
above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the
molten images, he
brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and
strowed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.
Then in his presence the altars of the Baals were
torn down, and he cut to pieces the incense altars that were
above them. He
shattered the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images,
crushed them to dust, and scattered them over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
And so did he in the cities of
Manasseh, and Ephraim, and
Simeon, even unto
Naphtali, with their mattocks round
about.
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:
that this is what the LORD says: I am
about to bring
calamity on this place and on its people, according to all the curses written in the book that has been read in the presence of the king of Judah,
And
Josiah took away all the
abominations out of all the countries that
pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And
Josiah removed all the
abominations from all the lands belonging to the Israelites, and he required
everyone in Israel to serve the LORD their God. Throughout his reign they did not turn aside from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.
Now the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, and his
abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: and
Jehoiachin his son reigned in his
stead.
As for the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, the
abominations he committed, and all that was found against him, they are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. And his son
Jehoiachin reigned in his place.
Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people,
transgressed very much after all the
abominations of the heathen; and
polluted the house of the LORD which he had
hallowed in Jerusalem.
Furthermore, all the leaders of the priests and the people multiplied their unfaithful deeds, following all the
abominations of the nations, and they
defiled the house of the LORD, which He had consecrated in Jerusalem.
And all they that were about them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with beasts, and with precious things, beside all that was willingly offered.
And all their neighbors supported them with articles of silver and gold, with goods and
livestock, and with valuables, in addition to all their
freewill offerings.
But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to
Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.
But the eye of their God was on the elders of the Jews, so that they were not stopped until a report was sent to
Darius and written instructions
about this matter were returned.
And I gathered them together to the river than runneth to
Ahava; and there
abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.
Now I assembled these exiles at the canal that flows to
Ahava, and we camped there three days. And when I searched among the people and priests, I found no Levites there.
So we fasted and
besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us.
So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and He granted our request.
And we came to Jerusalem, and abode there three days.
So we arrived at Jerusalem and rested there for three days.
Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their
abominations, even of the
Canaanites, the
Hittites, the
Perizzites, the Jebusites, the
Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the
Amorites.
After these things had been accomplished, the leaders approached me and said, “The people of Israel, including the priests and Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the surrounding peoples whose
abominations are like those of the
Canaanites,
Hittites,
Perizzites, Jebusites,
Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and
Amorites.
Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the
filthiness of the people of the lands, with their
abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.
that You gave through Your servants the prophets, saying: ‘The land that you are entering to possess is a land
polluted by the impurity of its peoples and the
abominations with which they have filled it from end to end.
Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these
abominations? wouldest not thou be
angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no
remnant nor escaping?
shall we again break Your commandments and
intermarry with the peoples who commit these
abominations? Would You not become so
angry with us as to
wipe us out, leaving no
remnant or
survivor?
Only
Jonathan the son of
Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah were employed
about this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the
Levite helped them.
(Only
Jonathan son of
Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, supported by Meshullam and Shabbethai the
Levite, opposed this plan.)
That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
Hanani, one of my brothers, arrived with men from Judah. So I questioned them
about the
remnant of the Jews who had survived the exile, and also
about Jerusalem.
But when
Sanballat the Horonite and
Tobiah the
Ammonite official heard
about this, they were deeply disturbed that someone had come to seek the well-being of the Israelites.
Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.
I also told them
about the
gracious hand of my God upon me, and what the king had said to me. “Let us start rebuilding,” they replied, and they set their hands to this good work.
But when
Sanballat the Horonite,
Tobiah the
Ammonite official, and Geshem the Arab heard
about this, they
mocked us and
ridiculed us, saying, “What is this you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king?”
From above the horse gate repaired the priests, every one over against his house.
Above the Horse Gate, each of the priests made repairs in front of his own house.
After him repaired Malchiah the
goldsmith’s son unto the place of the
Nethinims, and of the merchants, over against the gate Miphkad, and to the going up of the corner.
Next to him, Malchijah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Inspection Gate, and as far as the upper room above the corner.
And between the going up of the corner unto the sheep gate repaired the goldsmiths and the merchants.
And between the upper room above the corner and the Sheep Gate, the goldsmiths and merchants made repairs.
And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.
About that time there was a great outcry from the people and their wives against their fellow Jews.
Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that are about us.
There were 150 Jews and officials at my table, besides the guests from the surrounding nations.
And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.
When all our enemies heard
about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and
disheartened, for they realized that this task had been accomplished by our God.
That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.
Then I put my brother Hanani in charge of Jerusalem, along with Hananiah the commander of the fortress, because he was a faithful man who feared God more than most.
And
