Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work
among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their
prudent men shall be
hid.
Therefore I will again
confound these people with wonder upon wonder. The wisdom of the wise will
vanish, and the intelligence of the intelligent will be hidden.”
The
meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor
among men shall
rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
The humble will increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor
among men will
rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
The sinners in
Zion are afraid;
fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who
among us shall dwell with the
devouring fire? who
among us shall dwell with
everlasting burnings?
How then
wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for
chariots and for
horsemen?
For how can you
repel a single officer
among the least of my master’s servants when you depend on Egypt for
chariots and
horsemen?
Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
Who among all the gods of these lands has delivered his land from my hand? How then can the LORD deliver Jerusalem from my hand?”
Then said he, What have they seen in thine house? And
Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is nothing
among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
“What have they seen in your palace?” Isaiah asked. “They have seen everything in my palace,” answered
Hezekiah. “There is nothing
among my treasures that I did not show them.”
For I
beheld, and there was no man; even
among them, and there was no counsellor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.
When I look, there is no one; there is no
counselor among them; when I ask them, they have nothing to say.
Who
among you will give ear to this? who will
hearken and hear for the time to come?
Who
among you will pay attention to this? Who will
listen and obey
hereafter?
Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who
among them can declare this, and
shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth.
All the nations gather together and the peoples
assemble. Who
among them can declare this, and
proclaim to us the former things? Let them present their witnesses to
vindicate them, so that others may hear and say, “It is true.”
I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.
I alone decreed and saved and proclaimed— I, and not some foreign god among you. So you are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “that I am God.
And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
They will
sprout among the grass like willows by flowing streams.
He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the
cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself
among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain
doth nourish it.
He cuts down cedars or retrieves a
cypress or oak. He lets it grow strong
among the trees of the forest. He plants a
laurel, and the rain makes it grow.
Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the
potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
Woe to him who quarrels with his Maker— one clay pot
among many. Does the clay ask the
potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘He has no hands’?
All ye,
assemble yourselves, and hear; which
among them hath declared these things? The LORD hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.
Come together, all of you, and
listen: Which of the idols has
foretold these things? The LORD’s chosen ally will carry out His desire against Babylon, and His arm will be against the Chaldeans.
Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.
Who
among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of His Servant? Who
among you walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD; let him
lean on his God.
There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up.
Among all the sons she bore, there is no one to guide her; among all the sons she brought up, there is no one to take her hand.
Enflaming
yourselves with idols under every green tree,
slaying the children in the valleys under the clifts of the rocks?
who burn with
lust among the oaks, under every
luxuriant tree, who slaughter your children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?
Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?
Your portion is among the smooth stones of the valley; indeed, they are your lot. Even to them you have poured out a drink offering and offered a grain offering. Should I relent because of these?
Like the blind, we feel our way along the wall,
groping like those without eyes. We
stumble at
midday as in the
twilight;
among the vigorous we are like the dead.
And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed.
Their descendants will be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the LORD has blessed.
Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the
shepherd of his flock? where is he that put his holy Spirit within him?
Then His people remembered the days of old, the days of Moses. Where is He who brought them through the sea with the
shepherds of His flock? Where is the One who set His Holy Spirit
among them,
Which remain
among the graves, and
lodge in the monuments, which eat
swine’s flesh, and
broth of
abominable things is in their vessels;
And I will set a sign
among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, to
Tarshish,
Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to
Tubal, and
Javan, to the isles
afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory
among the Gentiles.
I will establish a sign
among them, and I will send survivors from
among them to the nations—to
Tarshish, Put, and the archers of Lud; to
Tubal,
Javan, and the islands far away who have not heard of My fame or seen My glory. So they will
proclaim My glory
among the nations.
But I said, How shall I put thee
among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly
heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.
Then I said, ‘How I long to make you My sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of all the nations!’ I thought you would call Me ‘Father’ and never turn away from following Me.
For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your
fallow ground, and
sow not
among thorns.
For this is what the LORD says to the men of Judah and Jerusalem: “Break up your
unplowed ground, and do not
sow among the thorns.
The whole city shall
flee for the noise of the
horsemen and
bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and
climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be
forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.
Every city flees at the sound of the
horseman and archer. They enter the thickets and
climb among the rocks. Every city is abandoned; no inhabitant is left.
For
among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a
trap, they catch men.
For
among My people are wicked men; they watch like fowlers lying in wait; they set a
trap to catch men.
Were they
ashamed when they had committed
abomination?
nay, they were not at all
ashamed, neither could they
blush: therefore they shall fall
among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Are they
ashamed of the
abomination they have committed? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to
blush. So they will fall
among the fallen; when I
punish them, they will
collapse,” says the LORD.
Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.
Therefore hear, O nations, and learn, O congregations, what will happen to them.
I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.
“I have appointed you to examine My people like ore, so you may know and try their ways.
Were they
ashamed when they had committed
abomination?
nay, they were not at all
ashamed, neither could they
blush: therefore shall they fall
among them that fall: in the time of their
visitation they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Are they
ashamed of the
abomination they have committed? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to
blush. So they will fall
among the fallen; when I
punish them, they will
collapse, says the LORD.
For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices,
among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall
bite you, saith the LORD.
“For behold, I will send snakes
among you, vipers that cannot be charmed, and they will
bite you,” declares the LORD.
I will
scatter them also
among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.
I will
scatter them
among the nations that neither they nor their fathers have known, and I will send a sword after them until I have finished them off.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the
mourning women, that they may come; and send for
cunning women, that they may come:
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Take note, and
summon the
wailing women; send for the most skillful
among them.
Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee
doth it
appertain:
forasmuch as
among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.
Who would not fear You, O King of nations? This is Your due. For among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You.
And the LORD said unto me, A
conspiracy is found
among the men of Judah, and
among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
And the LORD told me, “There is a
conspiracy among the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem.
Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to
inherit; Behold, I will
pluck them out of their land, and
pluck out the house of Judah from
among them.
This is what the LORD says: “As for all My evil neighbors who attack the inheritance that I
bequeathed to My people Israel, I am about to
uproot them from their land, and I will
uproot the house of Judah from
among them.
And it shall come to pass, if they will
diligently learn the ways of my people, to
swear by my name, The LORD liveth; as they taught my people to
swear by
Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.
And if they will
diligently learn the ways of My people and
swear by My name, saying, ‘As surely as the LORD lives’—just as they once taught My people to
swear by
Baal—then they will be established
among My people.
Why shouldest thou be as a man
astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.
Why are You like a man taken by surprise, like a
warrior powerless to save? Yet You are
among us, O LORD, and we are called by Your name. Do not
forsake us!
Are there any
among the
vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
Can the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the
skies alone send showers? Is this not by You, O LORD our God? So we put our hope in You, for You have done all these things.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now
among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very
horrible thing.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “Inquire among the nations: Who has ever heard things like these? Virgin Israel has done a most terrible thing.
And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they
prophesied in
Baal, and caused my people Israel to
err.
“
Among the prophets of Samaria I saw an offensive thing: They
prophesied by
Baal and led My people Israel
astray.
I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an
horrible thing: they commit
adultery, and walk in lies: they
strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none
doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as
Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as
Gomorrah.
And
among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a
horrible thing: They commit
adultery and walk in lies. They
strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns his back on wickedness. They are all like
Sodom to Me; the people of Jerusalem are like
Gomorrah.”
And I will send the sword, the famine, and the
pestilence,
among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.
And I will send against them sword and famine and plague, until they have perished from the land that I gave to them and their fathers.’”
And they shall drink, and be moved, and be
mad, because of the sword that I will send
among them.
And they will drink and
stagger and go out of their minds, because of the sword that I will send
among them.”
Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be
drunken, and
spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send
among you.
“Then you are to tell them that this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Drink, get
drunk, and
vomit. Fall down and never get up again, because of the sword I will send
among you.’
Then will I make this house like
Shiloh, and will make this city a
curse to all the nations of the earth.
then I will make this house like
Shiloh, and I will make this city an object of
cursing among all the nations of the earth.’”
Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away
captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom
Nebuchadnezzar had carried away
captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;
This is the text of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the
surviving elders
among the exiles and to the priests, the prophets, and all the others
Nebuchadnezzar had carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you,
deceive you, neither
hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Do not be
deceived by the prophets and diviners
among you, and do not
listen to the dreams you
elicit from them.
And I will
persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the
pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a
curse, and an
astonishment, and an
hissing, and a reproach,
among all the nations
whither I have driven them:
I will pursue them with sword and famine and plague. I will make them a
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth—a
curse, a
desolation, and an object of
scorn and reproach
among all the nations to which I
banish them.
Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?
So now, why have you not
rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who poses as a prophet
among you?
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will
punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell
among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.
this is what the LORD says: ‘I will surely
punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his descendants. He will have no one left
among this people, nor will he see the good that I will bring to My people, declares the LORD, for he has preached rebellion against the LORD.’”
For thus saith the LORD; Sing with
gladness for Jacob, and
shout among the chief of the nations:
publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the
remnant of Israel.
For this is what the LORD says: “Sing with joy for Jacob;
shout for the foremost of the nations! Make your praises heard, and say, ‘O LORD, save Your people, the
remnant of Israel!’
Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day;
You performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and You do so to this very day, both in Israel and
among all mankind. And You have made a name for
Yourself, as is the case to this day.
Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.
Now Jeremiah was free to come and go among the people, for they had not yet put him in prison.
For though ye had
smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men
among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
Indeed, if you were to strike down the entire army of the Chaldeans that is fighting against you, and only wounded men remained in their tents, they would still get up and burn this city down.”
Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.
Jeremiah started to leave Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to claim his portion there among the people.
Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt
among the people.
had Jeremiah brought from the
courtyard of the guard, and they turned him over to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to take him home. So Jeremiah remained
among his own people.
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had let him go from
Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains
among all that were carried away
captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away
captive unto Babylon.
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD after Nebuzaradan captain of the guard had released him at
Ramah, having found him bound in chains
among all the
captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.
Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him
among the people: or go
wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him
victuals and a reward, and let him go.
But before Jeremiah turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, “Return to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him
among the people, or go
anywhere else that seems right.” Then the captain of the guard gave him a
ration and a gift and released him.
Then went Jeremiah unto Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam to
Mizpah; and dwelt with him
among the people that were left in the land.
So Jeremiah went to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam at
Mizpah and stayed with him
among the people who were left in the land.
Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and
among the
Ammonites, and in
Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a
remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan;
When all the Jews in Moab,
Ammon,
Edom, and all the other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a
remnant in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, over them,
But ten men were found
among them that said unto
Ishmael,
Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he
forbare, and
slew them not
among their brethren.
But ten of the men
among them said to
Ishmael, “Do not kill us, for we have hidden
treasure in the field—wheat, barley, oil, and honey!” So he
refrained from killing them with the others.
In that ye
provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt,
whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut
yourselves off, and that ye might be a
curse and a reproach
among all the nations of the earth?
Why are you
provoking Me to anger by the work of your hands by burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have gone to reside? As a result, you will be cut off and will become an object of
cursing and reproach
among all the nations of the earth.
As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as
Tabor is
among the mountains, and as
Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.
As surely as I live, declares the King, whose name is the LORD of Hosts, there will come one who is like
Tabor among the mountains and like
Carmel by the sea.
Also her
hired men are in the midst of her like
fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their
calamity was come upon them, and the time of their
visitation.
Even the
mercenaries among her are like
fattened calves. They too will turn back; together they will
flee, they will not stand their ground, for the day of
calamity is coming upon them— the time of their punishment.
For was not Israel a
derision unto thee? was he found
among thieves? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.
Was not Israel your object of
ridicule? Was he ever found
among thieves? For whenever you speak of him you
shake your head.
O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the
dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the hole’s mouth.
Abandon the towns and settle
among the rocks, O dwellers of Moab! Be like a
dove that nests at the mouth of a cave.
For, lo, I will make thee small
among the heathen, and
despised among men.
“For behold, I will make you small
among nations,
despised among men.
Declare ye
among the nations, and
publish, and set up a standard;
publish, and
conceal not: say, Babylon is taken,
Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.
“
Announce and declare to the nations; lift up a
banner and
proclaim it; hold nothing back when you say, ‘Babylon is captured;
Bel is put to shame; Marduk is
shattered, her images are disgraced, her idols are broken in pieces.’
How is the hammer of the whole earth cut
asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a
desolation among the nations!
How the hammer of the whole earth lies broken and
shattered! What a
horror Babylon has become
among the nations!
At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
At the sound of Babylon’s capture the earth will
quake; a cry will be heard
among the nations.
Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the
trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of
Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz;
appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.
“Raise a
banner in the land! Blow the ram’s horn
among the nations! Prepare the nations against her.
Summon the kingdoms against her—
Ararat, Minni, and
Ashkenaz.
Appoint a captain against her; bring up horses like
swarming locusts.
How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an
astonishment among the nations!
How Sheshach has been captured! The praise of all the earth has been seized. What a
horror Babylon has become
among the nations!
How
doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people how is she become as a widow she that was great
among the nations, and princess
among the provinces, how is she become tributary
How
lonely lies the city, once so full of people! She who was great
among the nations has become a widow. The princess of the provinces has become a slave.
She weepeth
sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks:
among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt
treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.
She weeps
aloud in the night, with tears upon her cheeks.
Among all her lovers there is no one to comfort her. All her friends have
betrayed her; they have become her enemies.
Judah is gone into captivity because of
affliction, and because of great
servitude: she dwelleth
among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
Judah has gone into exile under
affliction and harsh slavery; she dwells
among the nations but finds no place to rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her in the midst of her distress.
Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the LORD hath commanded concerning Jacob, that his
adversaries should be round about him: Jerusalem is as a
menstruous woman
among them.
Zion stretches out her hands, but there is no one to comfort her. The LORD has decreed against Jacob that his neighbors become his foes. Jerusalem has become an unclean thing
among them.
Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.
Her gates have sunk into the ground; He has destroyed and
shattered their bars. Her king and her princes are exiled
among the nations, the law is no more, and even her prophets find no vision from the LORD.
Thou hast made us as the
offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people.
You have made us
scum and refuse
among the nations.
They
cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and
wandered, they said
among the heathen, They shall no more
sojourn there.
“Go away! Unclean!” men
shouted at them. “Away, away! Do not touch us!” So they fled and
wandered.
Among the nations it was said, “They can stay here no longer.”
The breath of our nostrils, the
anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live
among the heathen.
The LORD’s
anointed, the breath of our life, was captured in their pits. We had said of him, “Under his shadow we will live
among the nations.”
Now it came to pass in the
thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was
among the
captives by the river of
Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.
In the
thirtieth year, on the fifth day of the fourth month, while I was
among the exiles by the River Kebar, the heavens opened and I saw visions of God.
As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down
among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth
lightning.
In the midst of the living creatures was the appearance of
glowing coals of fire, or of torches. Fire moved back and forth between the living creatures; it was bright, and
lightning flashed out of it.
And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will
forbear, (for they are a
rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet
among them.
And whether they
listen or refuse to
listen—for they are a
rebellious house—they will know that a prophet has been
among them.
And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou
dost dwell
among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a
rebellious house.
But you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns
surround you, and you dwell
among scorpions. Do not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their presence, though they are a
rebellious house.
Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel-
abib, that dwelt by the river of
Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there
astonished among them seven days.
I came to the exiles at Tel-
abib who dwelt by the River Kebar. And for seven days I sat where they sat and remained there
among them,
overwhelmed.
But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them:
And you, son of man, they will
tie with ropes, and you will be bound so that you cannot go out
among the people.
And the LORD said, Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their
defiled bread
among the Gentiles,
whither I will drive them.
Then the LORD said, “This is how the Israelites will eat their
defiled bread
among the nations to which I will
banish them.”
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, am against thee, and will
execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I Myself am against you, Jerusalem, and I will
execute judgments
among you in the sight of the nations.
Therefore the fathers shall eat the sons in the midst of thee, and the sons shall eat their fathers; and I will
execute judgments in thee, and the whole
remnant of thee will I
scatter into all the winds.
As a result, fathers
among you will eat their sons, and sons will eat their fathers. I will
execute judgments against you and
scatter all your
remnant to every wind.’
Moreover I will make thee waste, and a reproach among the nations that are round about thee, in the sight of all that pass by.
I will make you a ruin and a disgrace among the nations around you, in the sight of all who pass by.
And the slain shall fall in the midst of you, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
The slain will fall among you, and you will know that I am the LORD.
Yet will I leave a
remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword
among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries.
Yet I will leave a
remnant, for some of you will escape the sword when you are scattered
among the nations and throughout the lands.
And they that escape of you shall remember me
among the nations
whither they shall be carried
captives, because I am broken with their
whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a
whoring after their idols: and they shall
lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.
Then in the nations to which they have been carried
captive, your survivors will remember Me—how I have been
grieved by their
adulterous hearts that turned away from Me, and by their eyes that
lusted after idols. So they will
loathe themselves for the evil they have done and for all their abominations.
Then shall ye know that I am the LORD, when their slain men shall be among their idols round about their altars, upon every high hill, in all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the place where they did offer sweet savour to all their idols.
Then you will know that I am the LORD, when their slain lie
among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, on all the mountaintops, and under every green tree and
leafy oak—the places where they offered
fragrant incense to all their idols.
And mine eye shall not
spare thee, neither will I have
pity: but I will
recompense thy ways upon thee, and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
I will not look on you with
pity, nor will I
spare you, but I will
punish you for your ways and for the abominations
among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’
And mine eye shall not
spare, neither will I have
pity: I will
recompense thee according to thy ways and thine abominations that are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am the LORD that smiteth.
I will not look on you with
pity, nor will I
spare you, but I will
punish you for your ways and for the abominations
among you. Then you will know that it is I, the LORD, who strikes the blow.
And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his
censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.
Before them stood seventy elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan standing
among them. Each had a
censer in his hand, and a
fragrant cloud of incense was rising.
And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man
among them was clothed with linen, with a writer’s
inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the
brasen altar.
And I saw six men coming from the direction of the Upper Gate, which faces north, each with a weapon of slaughter in his hand. With them was another man clothed in linen who had a writing
kit at his side. And they came in and stood beside the bronze altar.
