So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the
beasts of the field, and all
creeping things that
creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall
shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.
The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the
beasts of the field, every creature that crawls upon the ground, and all mankind on the face of the earth will
tremble at My presence. The mountains will be thrown down, the cliffs will
collapse, and every wall will fall to the ground.
Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the
ravenous birds of every sort, and to the
beasts of the field to be
devoured.
On the mountains of Israel you will fall—you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to every kind of
ravenous bird and wild beast.
The priests shall not eat of any thing that is dead of itself, or
torn, whether it be fowl or beast.
The priests may not eat any bird or animal found dead or
torn by wild
beasts.
And
wheresoever the children of men dwell, the
beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
Wherever the sons of men or beasts of the field or birds of the air dwell, He has given them into your hand and has made you ruler over them all. You are that head of gold.
The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.
Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit was abundant, and upon it was food for all. Under it the beasts of the field found shelter, in its branches the birds of the air nested, and from it every creature was fed.
He
cried aloud, and said thus,
Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches,
shake off his leaves, and
scatter his fruit: let the
beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:
He called out in a loud voice: ‘Cut down the tree and
chop off its branches; strip off its leaves and
scatter its fruit. Let the
beasts flee from under it, and the birds from its branches.
Nevertheless leave the
stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the
beasts in the grass of the earth:
But leave the
stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender grass of the field. Let him be
drenched with the
dew of heaven and
graze with the
beasts on the grass of the earth.
Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the
beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their
habitation:
whose foliage was beautiful and whose fruit was abundant, providing food for all, under which the beasts of the field lived, and in whose branches the birds of the air nested—
And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying,
Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the
stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the
beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;
And you, O king, saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying: ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the
stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender grass of the field. Let him be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and
graze with the
beasts of the field till seven times pass him by.’
That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the
beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the
dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will.
You will be driven away from mankind, and your dwelling will be with the
beasts of the field. You will feed on grass like an ox and be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.
And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the
beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will.
You will be driven away from mankind to live with the beasts of the field, and you will feed on grass like an ox. And seven times will pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.”
And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the
beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild
asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the
dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it
whomsoever he will.
He was driven away from mankind, and his mind was like that of a beast. He lived with the wild
donkeys and
ate grass like an ox, and his body was
drenched with the
dew of heaven until he acknowledged that the Most High God rules over the kingdom of mankind, setting over it whom He wishes.
And four great
beasts came up from the sea,
diverse one from another.
Then four great beasts came up out of the sea, each one different from the others:
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast,
dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it
devoured and
brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was
diverse from all the
beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
After this, as I watched in my vision in the night, suddenly a fourth beast appeared, and it was
terrifying—
dreadful and extremely strong—with large iron teeth. It
devoured and
crushed; then it
trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the
beasts before it, and it had ten horns.
As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.
As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was removed, but they were granted an extension of life for a season and a time.
These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.
‘These four great beasts are four kings who will arise from the earth.
I saw the ram
pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no
beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.
I saw the ram charging toward the west and the north and the south. No animal could stand against him, and there was no
deliverance from his power. He did as he pleased and became great.
And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees,
whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the
beasts of the field shall eat them.
I will destroy her vines and fig trees, which she thinks are the wages paid by her lovers. So I will make them into a
thicket, and the
beasts of the field will
devour them.
And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the
beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the
creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely.
On that day I will make a covenant for them with the
beasts of the field and the birds of the air and the creatures that
crawl on the ground. And I will
abolish bow and sword and weapons of war in the land, and will make them lie down in safety.
Therefore shall the land
mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall
languish, with the
beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven;
yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
Therefore the land mourns, and all who dwell in it will waste away with the beasts of the field and the birds of the air; even the fish of the sea disappear.
How do the
beasts groan! the herds of cattle are
perplexed, because they have no pasture;
yea, the flocks of sheep are made
desolate.
How the cattle
groan! The herds
wander in confusion because they have no pasture. Even the flocks of sheep are suffering.
The
beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath
devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
Even the
beasts of the field
pant for You, for the streams of water have dried up, and fire has consumed the open pastures.
Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.
Do not be afraid, O beasts of the field, for the open pastures have turned green, the trees bear their fruit, and the fig tree and vine yield their best.
Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.
Even though you offer Me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; for your peace offerings of
fattened cattle I will have no regard.
And the
remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the
beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
Then the
remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the
beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep, which tramples and tears as it passes through, with no one to
rescue them.
For the violence of
Lebanon shall cover thee, and the
spoil of
beasts, which made them afraid, because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
For your violence against
Lebanon will
overwhelm you, and the destruction of animals will
terrify you, because of your
bloodshed against men and your violence against the land, the city, and all their dwellers.
And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the
beasts of the nations: both the
cormorant and the
bittern shall
lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows;
desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the
cedar work.
This is the
rejoicing city that dwelt
carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a
desolation, a place for
beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and
wag his hand.
This carefree city that dwells securely, that thinks to herself: “I am it, and there is none besides me,” what a ruin she has become, a resting place for
beasts.
Everyone who passes by her hisses and shakes his
fist.
And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the
mule, of the
camel, and of the
ass, and of all the
beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.
And a similar plague will strike the horses and mules, camels and
donkeys, and all the animals in those camps.
And he was there in the wilderness forty days,
tempted of
Satan; and was with the wild
beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
and He was there for forty days, being
tempted by
Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels ministered to Him.
Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: ‘Did you bring Me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
Wherein were all manner of
fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild
beasts, and
creeping things, and fowls of the air.
It contained all kinds of four-footed animals and reptiles of the earth, as well as birds of the air.
Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw
fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild
beasts, and
creeping things, and fowls of the air.
I looked at it closely and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air.
And provide them
beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto
Felix the governor.
Provide mounts for Paul to take him safely to Governor
Felix.”
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and
fourfooted beasts, and
creeping things.
and exchanged the glory of the
immortal God for images of
mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
If after the manner of men I have fought with
beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to
morrow we die.
If I fought wild
beasts in Ephesus for human motives, what did I gain? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for
tomorrow we die.”
All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
Not all flesh is the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another, and fish another.
One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are
alway liars, evil
beasts, slow
bellies.
As one of their own prophets has said, “Cretans are always liars, evil
beasts,
lazy gluttons.”
For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
Although the high priest brings the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, the bodies are burned outside the camp.
For every kind of
beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is
tamed, and hath been
tamed of mankind:
All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being
tamed and have been
tamed by man,
But these, as natural
brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
These men are like
irrational animals, creatures of
instinct, born to be captured and destroyed. They
blaspheme in matters they do not understand, and like such creatures, they too will be destroyed.
But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as
brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
And before the throne was something like a sea of glass, as clear as crystal. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, covered with eyes in front and back.
And the four
beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God
Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
And each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around and within. Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God
Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”
And when those
beasts give glory and honour and
thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
And whenever the living creatures give glory, honor, and
thanks to the One seated on the throne who lives
forever and ever,
And I
beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four
beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
Then I saw a Lamb who appeared to have been slain, standing in the center of the throne,
encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
When He had taken the
scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a
harp, and they were holding golden
bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
And I
beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the
beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
Then I looked, and I heard the voices of many angels and living creatures and elders
encircling the throne, and their number was myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands.
And the four
beasts said,
Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
And the four living creatures said, “
Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.
And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of
thunder, one of the four
beasts saying, Come and see.
Then I watched as the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say in a
thunderous voice, “Come!”
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four
beasts say, A measure of wheat for a
penny, and three measures of barley for a
penny; and see thou
hurt not the oil and the wine.
And I heard what sounded like a voice from among the four living creatures, saying, “A
quart of wheat for a
denarius, and three quarts of barley for a
denarius, and do not
harm the oil and wine.”
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and
Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the
beasts of the earth.
Then I looked and saw a pale green horse. Its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed close behind. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill by sword, by famine, by plague, and by the beasts of the earth.
And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,
And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. And they fell facedown before the throne and worshiped God,
And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
And they
sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. And no one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.
And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.
Then one of the four living creatures gave the seven angels seven golden
bowls full of the wrath of God, who lives
forever and ever.
And
cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and
frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and
beasts, and sheep, and horses, and
chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
of
cinnamon,
spice, incense,
myrrh, and
frankincense; of wine, olive oil, fine flour, and wheat; of cattle, sheep, horses, and
chariots; of slaves and souls of men.
And the four and twenty elders and the four
beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying,
Amen;
Alleluia.
And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sits on the throne, saying: “
Amen,
Hallelujah!”
Four hundred thirty and five camels, seven thousand thirty and six horses, two hundred forty and five mules, five thousand five hundred twenty and five beasts used to the yoke.
There shall be a confusion also in many places, and the fire shall be
oft sent out again, and the wild
beasts shall change their places, and
menstruous women shall bring forth monsters:
Upon the sixth day thou gavest commandment unto the earth, that before thee it should bring forth
beasts, cattle, and
creeping things:
Let it not be thy will to destroy them which have lived like beasts; but to look upon them that have clearly taught thy law.
Take thou no
indignation at them which are deemed worse than
beasts; but love them that always put their trust in thy righteousness and glory.
Art not thou it that remainest of the four beasts, whom I made to reign in my world, that the end of their times might come through them?
And the fourth came, and overcame all the
beasts that were past, and had power over the world with great
fearfulness, and over the whole compass of the earth with much wicked oppression; and so long time dwelt he upon the earth with
deceit.
As Nabuchodonosor king of all the earth liveth, and as his power liveth, who hath sent thee for the upholding of every living thing: for not only men shall serve him by thee, but also the beasts of the field, and the cattle, and the fowls of the air, shall live by thy power under Nabuchodonosor and all his house.
Therefore every city and country
whatsoever, which shall not do according to these things, shall be destroyed without mercy with fire and sword, and shall be made not only unpassable for men, but also most
hateful to wild
beasts and fowls for ever.
The natures of living creatures, and the
furies of wild
beasts: the violence of winds, and the reasonings of men: the
diversities of plants and the virtues of roots:
Or unknown wild
beasts, full of
rage, newly created, breathing out either a
fiery vapour, or
filthy scents of scattered smoke, or shooting
horrible sparkles out of their eyes:
Not that thou
wast unable to bring the ungodly under the hand of the righteous in battle, or to destroy them at once with cruel
beasts, or with one rough word:
For they went
astray very far in the ways of error, and held them for gods, which even among the
beasts of their enemies were
despised, being
deceived, as children of no understanding.
But
miserable are they, and in dead things is their hope, who call them gods, which are the works of men’s hands, gold and silver, to
shew art in, and resemblances of
beasts, or a stone good for nothing, the work of an ancient hand.
Yea, they worshipped those
beasts also that are most
hateful: for being compared together, some are worse than others.
Neither are they beautiful, so much as to be desired in respect of beasts: but they went without the praise of God and his blessing.
Therefore by the like were they punished
worthily, and by the multitude of
beasts tormented.
To the end that they, desiring food, might for the
ugly sight of the
beasts sent among them
lothe even that, which they must needs desire; but these, suffering
penury for a short space, might be made partakers of a strange taste.
For when the
horrible fierceness of
beasts came upon these, and they perished with the stings of
crooked serpents, thy wrath
endured not for ever:
For
sometime the flame was
mitigated, that it might not burn up the
beasts that were sent against the ungodly; but themselves might see and perceive that they were
persecuted with the judgment of God.
For though no terrible thing did fear them; yet being
scared with
beasts that passed by, and
hissing of serpents,
Or a terrible sound of stones cast down, or a running that could not be seen of
skipping beasts, or a
roaring voice of most savage wild
beasts, or a rebounding
echo from the hollow mountains; these things made them to
swoon for fear.
For when a man is dead, he shall
inherit creeping things,
beasts, and worms.
Who will
pity a charmer that is
bitten with a serpent, or any such as come
nigh wild
beasts?
And put the fear of man upon all flesh, and gave him dominion over beasts and fowls.
Teeth of wild
beasts, and scorpions, serpents, and the sword
punishing the wicked to destruction.
For therein be strange and
wondrous works, variety of all kinds of
beasts and whales created.
Where are the princes of the heathen become, and such as ruled the beasts upon the earth;
But he that knoweth all things knoweth her, and hath found her out with his understanding: he that prepared the earth for
evermore hath filled it with
fourfooted beasts:
The beasts are better than they: for they can get under a cover and help themselves.
O all ye
beasts and cattle,
bless ye the Lord: praise and
exalt him above all for ever.
Set up altars, and groves, and chapels of idols, and sacrifice
swine’s flesh, and unclean
beasts:
Moreover they divided the
beasts among the armies, and for every
elephant they appointed a thousand men, armed with coats of
mail, and with helmets of brass on their heads; and beside this, for every beast were ordained five hundred
horsemen of the best.
And upon the
beasts were there strong towers of wood, which covered every one of them, and were
girt fast unto them with devices: there were also upon every one two and thirty strong men, that fought upon them, beside the Indian that ruled him.
Eleazar also,
surnamed Savaran, perceiving that one of the
beasts, armed with royal
harness, was higher than all the rest, and supposing that the king was upon him,
But
Judas Maccabeus with nine others, or
thereabout, withdrew himself into the wilderness, and lived in the mountains after the manner of
beasts, with his company, who fed on herbs continually, lest they should be partakers of the
pollution.
And as touching the Jews, whom he had judged not worthy so much as to be buried, but to be cast out with their children to be
devoured of the fowls and wild
beasts, he would make them all equals to the citizens of Athens:
And they kept the eight days with
gladness, as in the feast of the tabernacles, remembering that not long
afore they had held the feast of the tabernacles, when as they
wandered in the mountains and dens like
beasts.
Then they praised the
merciful God all together, and took heart,
insomuch that they were ready not only to fight with men, but with most cruel
beasts, and to
pierce through walls of iron.
And now, when as all looked what should be the trial, and the enemies were already come near, and the army was set in
array, and the
beasts conveniently placed, and the
horsemen set in wings,
Maccabeus seeing the coming of the multitude, and the
divers preparations of armour, and the fierceness of the
beasts, stretched out his hands toward heaven, and called upon the Lord that worketh wonders, knowing that victory cometh not by arms, but even as it seemeth good to him, he giveth it to such as are worthy:
