And the
messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also,
Hophni and
Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.
The
messenger answered, “Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons,
Hophni and
Phinehas, are both dead, and the ark of God has been
captured.”
And his daughter in law,
Phinehas’ wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the
tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and
travailed; for her pains came upon her.
Now
Eli’s daughter-in-law, the wife of
Phinehas, was
pregnant and about to give birth. When she heard the news of the
capture of God’s ark and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband, she
collapsed and gave birth, for her labor pains overtook her.
And she named the child I-chabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.
And she named the boy Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel,” because the ark of God had been captured and her father-in-law and her husband had been killed.
And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.
“The glory has departed from Israel,” she said, “for the ark of God has been captured.”
And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben-ezer unto
Ashdod.
After the Philistines had
captured the ark of God, they took it from
Ebenezer to
Ashdod,
And he will
appoint him
captains over thousands, and
captains over
fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to
reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his
chariots.
He will
appoint some for himself as commanders of thousands and of
fifties, and others to
plow his ground, to
reap his harvest, to make his weapons of war, and to
equip his
chariots.
To
morrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt
anoint him to be
captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me.
“At this time
tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you are to
anoint him leader over My people Israel; he will save them from the hand of the Philistines. For I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come to Me.”
Then Samuel took a
vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and
kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath
anointed thee to be
captain over his inheritance?
Then Samuel took a
flask of oil, poured it on Saul’s head,
kissed him, and said, “Has not the LORD
anointed you ruler over His inheritance?
And when they
forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera,
captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.
But they
forgot the LORD their God, and He sold them into the hand of Sisera the commander of the army of Hazor, and into the hands of the Philistines and the king of Moab, who fought against them.
But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.
But now your kingdom will not
endure; the LORD has sought a man after His own heart and appointed him ruler over His people, because you have not kept the command of the LORD.”
And the name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of
Ahimaaz: and the name of the
captain of his host was
Abner, the son of
Ner, Saul’s uncle.
His wife’s name was Ahinoam daughter of
Ahimaaz. The name of the commander of his army was
Abner, the son of Saul’s uncle
Ner.
And he took
Agag the king of the
Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
He
captured Agag king of Amalek alive, but devoted all the others to destruction with the sword.
And carry these ten cheeses unto the
captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren
fare, and take their
pledge.
Take also these ten portions of
cheese to the commander of their unit. Check on the
welfare of your brothers and bring back an assurance from them.
And when Saul saw David go forth against the
Philistine, he said unto
Abner, the
captain of the host,
Abner, whose son is this youth? And
Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.
As Saul had watched David going out to
confront the
Philistine, he said to
Abner the commander of the army, “
Abner, whose son is this young man?” “As surely as you live, O king,”
Abner replied, “I do not know.”
Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
Therefore Saul sent David away and gave him command of a thousand men. David led the troops out to battle and back,
And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets
prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also
prophesied.
he sent messengers to
capture him. But when they saw the group of prophets
prophesying, with Samuel leading them, the Spirit of God came upon them, and Saul’s messengers also began to
prophesy.
And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.
And all who were distressed or indebted or discontented
rallied around him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him.
Then Saul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites; will the son of
Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, and make you all
captains of thousands, and
captains of hundreds;
Then Saul said to his servants, “
Listen, men of Benjamin! Is the son of
Jesse giving all of you fields and vineyards and making you commanders of thousands or hundreds?
Then
Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who is so faithful among all thy servants as David, which is the king’s son in law, and goeth at thy
bidding, and is honourable in thine house?
Ahimelech answered the king, “Who among all your servants is as faithful as David, the king’s son-in-law, the
captain of your
bodyguard who is honored in your house?
And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made
haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.
Saul was proceeding along one side of the mountain, and David and his men along the other side. Even though David was
hurrying to get away, Saul and his men were closing in on David and his men to
capture them.
And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David
beheld the place where Saul lay, and
Abner the son of
Ner, the
captain of his host: and Saul lay in the
trench, and the people pitched round about him.
Then David set out and went to the place where Saul had camped. He saw the place where Saul and
Abner son of
Ner, the general of his army, had
lain down. Saul was lying inside the inner circle of the camp, with the troops camped around him.
And had taken the women
captives, that were therein: they
slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.
They had taken
captive the women and all who were there, both young and old. They had not killed
anyone, but had carried them off as they went on their way.
So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken
captives.
When David and his men came to the city, they found it burned down and their wives and sons and daughters taken
captive.
And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this
troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
and David inquired of the LORD: “Should I pursue these raiders? Will I overtake them?” “Pursue them,” the LORD replied, “for you will surely overtake them and
rescue the
captives.”
But
Abner the son of
Ner,
captain of Saul’s host, took
Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to
Mahanaim;
Meanwhile,
Abner son of
Ner, the commander of Saul’s army, took Saul’s son
Ish-bosheth, moved him to
Mahanaim,
And Saul’s son had two men that were
captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of
Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (for Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin:
Saul’s son had two men who were leaders of
raiding parties. One was named Baanah and the other Rechab; they were sons of
Rimmon the Beerothite of the tribe of Benjamin—Beeroth is considered part of Benjamin,
Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou
wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a
captain over Israel.
Even in times past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them back. And to you the LORD said, ‘You will
shepherd My people Israel, and you will be ruler over them.’”
Nevertheless David took the strong hold of
Zion: the same is the city of David.
Nevertheless, David
captured the fortress of
Zion (that is, the City of David).
And David said on that day,
Whosoever getteth up to the
gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the
lame and the blind, that are
hated of David’s soul, he shall be chief and
captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the
lame shall not come into the house.
On that day he said, “
Whoever attacks the Jebusites must use the water shaft to reach the
lame and blind who are
despised by David.” That is why it is said, “The blind and the
lame will never enter the palace.”
David
captured from him a thousand
chariots, seven thousand charioteers, and twenty thousand foot soldiers, and he
hamstrung all the horses except a hundred he kept for the
chariots.
And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
Hadadezer sent messengers to bring more Arameans from beyond the Euphrates, and they came to Helam with Shobach the commander of Hadadezer’s army leading them.
And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David
slew the men of seven hundred
chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand
horsemen, and
smote Shobach the
captain of their host, who died there.
But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed seven hundred charioteers and forty thousand foot soldiers. He also struck down Shobach the commander of their army, who died there.
And
Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of
Ammon, and took the royal city.
Meanwhile,
Joab fought against Rabbah of the
Ammonites and
captured the royal fortress.
And
Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.
Then
Joab sent messengers to David to say, “I have fought against Rabbah and have
captured the water supply of the city.
Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and
encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.
Now, therefore,
assemble the rest of the troops, lay siege to the city, and
capture it. Otherwise I will
capture the city, and it will be named after me.”
And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
So David assembled all the troops and went to Rabbah; and he fought against it and captured it.
And David numbered the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.
Then David reviewed his troops and appointed over them commanders of hundreds and of thousands.
And the king commanded
Joab and
Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with
Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the
captains charge concerning
Absalom.
Now the king had commanded
Joab,
Abishai, and Ittai, “Treat the young man
Absalom gently for my sake.” And all the people heard the king’s orders to each of the commanders regarding
Absalom.
And say ye to
Amasa, Art thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not
captain of the host before me continually in the room of
Joab.
And say to
Amasa, ‘Aren’t you my flesh and blood? May God
punish me, and ever so severely, if from this time you are not the commander of my army in place of
Joab!’”
These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the
captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his
spear against eight hundred, whom he
slew at one time.
These are the names of David’s mighty men: Josheb-basshebeth the Tahchemonite was chief of the Three. He
wielded his
spear against eight hundred men, whom he killed at one time.
Was he not most honourable of three? therefore he was their
captain:
howbeit he attained not unto the first three.
Was he not more honored than the Three? And he became their commander, even though he was not included among the Three.
For the king said to
Joab the
captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.
So the king said to
Joab the commander of his army, who was with him, “Go now throughout the tribes of Israel from
Dan to
Beersheba and register the troops, so that I may know their number.”
Notwithstanding the king’s word prevailed against
Joab, and against the
captains of the host. And
Joab and the
captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.
Nevertheless, the king’s word prevailed against
Joab and against the commanders of the army. So
Joab and the commanders of the army departed from the presence of the king to count the troops of Israel.
And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and
Abiathar the priest, and
Joab the
captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called.
And he has sacrificed an abundance of oxen,
fattened calves, and sheep, and has invited all the other sons of the king, as well as
Abiathar the priest and
Joab the commander of the army. But he did not
invite your servant Solomon.
For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king’s sons, and the
captains of the host, and
Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.
For
today he has gone down and sacrificed an abundance of oxen,
fattened calves, and sheep, and has invited all the sons of the king, the commanders of the army, and
Abiathar the priest. And behold, they are eating and drinking before him, saying, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’
Moreover thou knowest also what
Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two
captains of the hosts of Israel, unto
Abner the son of
Ner, and unto
Amasa the son of Jether, whom he
slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his
girdle that was about his loins, and in his
shoes that were on his feet.
Moreover, you know what
Joab son of Zeruiah did to me—what he did to
Abner son of
Ner and
Amasa son of Jether, the two commanders of the armies of Israel. He killed them in peacetime to
avenge the blood of war. He
stained with the blood of war the belt around his
waist and the
sandals on his feet.
And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and
slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing thereof, to wit,
Abner the son of
Ner,
captain of the host of Israel, and
Amasa the son of Jether,
captain of the host of Judah.
The LORD will bring his
bloodshed back upon his own head, for without the knowledge of my father David he struck down two men more righteous and better than he when he put to the sword
Abner son of
Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and
Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army.
And he made two chapiters of
molten brass, to set upon the tops of the pillars: the height of the one
chapiter was five cubits, and the height of the other
chapiter was five cubits:
He also made two capitals of cast bronze to set on top of the pillars, each capital five cubits high.
And nets of checker work, and
wreaths of chain work, for the chapiters which were upon the top of the pillars; seven for the one
chapiter, and seven for the other
chapiter.
For the
capitals on top of the pillars he made a network of
lattice, with
wreaths of
chainwork, seven for each
capital.
And he made the pillars, and two rows round about upon the one network, to cover the chapiters that were upon the top, with pomegranates: and so did he for the other
chapiter.
Likewise, he made the pillars with two rows of pomegranates around each
grating to cover each
capital atop the pillars.
And the chapiters that were upon the top of the pillars were of
lily work in the
porch, four cubits.
And the
capitals atop the pillars in the
portico were shaped like
lilies, four cubits high.
And the chapiters upon the two pillars had pomegranates also above, over against the
belly which was by the network: and the pomegranates were two hundred in rows round about upon the other
chapiter.
On the
capitals of both pillars, just above the rounded projection next to the network, were the two hundred pomegranates in rows
encircling each
capital.
The two pillars, and the two
bowls of the chapiters that were on the top of the two pillars; and the two networks, to cover the two
bowls of the chapiters which were upon the top of the pillars;
the two pillars; the two
bowl-shaped
capitals atop the pillars; the two sets of network covering both
bowls of the
capitals atop the pillars;
And four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, even two rows of pomegranates for one network, to cover the two
bowls of the chapiters that were upon the pillars;
the four hundred pomegranates for the two sets of network (two rows of pomegranates for each network covering both the
bowl-shaped
capitals atop the pillars);
If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be
angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away
captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near;
When they sin against You—for there is no one who does not sin—and You become
angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as
captives to his own land, whether far or near,
and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their
captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
And so return unto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, which led them away
captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name:
and when they return to You with all their heart and soul in the land of the enemies who took them
captive, and when they pray to You in the direction of the land that You gave to their fathers, the city You have chosen, and the house I have built for Your Name,
May You
forgive Your people who have
sinned against You and all the transgressions they have committed against You, and may You grant them
compassion in the eyes of their
captors to show them mercy.
For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken
Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the
Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present unto his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
Pharaoh king of Egypt had attacked and
captured Gezer. He had set it on fire, killed the
Canaanites who lived in the city, and given it as a
dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no
bondmen: but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his
captains, and rulers of his
chariots, and his
horsemen.
But Solomon did not
consign any of the Israelites to slavery, because they were his men of war, his servants, his officers, his
captains, and the commanders of his
chariots and cavalry.
For it came to pass, when David was in
Edom, and
Joab the
captain of the host was gone up to
bury the slain, after he had
smitten every male in
Edom;
Earlier, when David was in
Edom,
Joab the commander of the army had gone to
bury the dead and had struck down every male in
Edom.
And when
Hadad heard in Egypt that David
slept with his fathers, and that
Joab the
captain of the host was dead,
Hadad said to Pharaoh, Let me depart, that I may go to mine own country.
When
Hadad heard in Egypt that David had rested with his fathers and that
Joab, the commander of the army, was dead, he said to Pharaoh, “Let me go, that I may return to my own country.”
And he gathered men unto him, and became
captain over a band, when David
slew them of Zobah: and they went to Damascus, and dwelt therein, and reigned in Damascus.
and had gathered men to himself. When David killed the Zobaites, Rezon captained a band of raiders and went to Damascus, where they settled and gained control.
And king
Rehoboam made in their
stead brasen shields, and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king’s house.
Then King
Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place and committed them to the care of the
captains of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
And his servant Zimri,
captain of half his
chariots,
conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah, drinking himself
drunk in the house of Arza
steward of his house in Tirzah.
However, while Elah was in Tirzah getting
drunk in the house of Arza the
steward of his household there, Elah’s servant Zimri, the commander of half his
chariots,
conspired against him.
And the people that were
encamped heard say, Zimri hath
conspired, and hath also slain the king: wherefore all Israel made Omri, the
captain of the host, king over Israel that day in the camp.
and the people in the camp heard that Zimri had not only
conspired but had also struck down the king. So there in the camp that very day, all Israel proclaimed Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel.
And it came to pass, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the palace of the king’s house, and burnt the king’s house over him with fire, and died,
When Zimri saw that the city was captured, he entered the citadel of the royal palace and burned it down upon himself. So he died
And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:
So do this: Dismiss all the kings from their positions and replace them with other officers.
And as the king passed by, he
cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
As the king passed by, he
cried out to the king: “Your servant had marched out into the middle of the battle, when suddenly a man came over with a
captive and told me, ‘Guard this man! If he goes missing for any reason, your life will be exchanged for his life, or you will
weigh out a talent of silver.’
But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two
captains that had rule over his
chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.
Now the king of
Aram had ordered his thirty-two
chariot commanders, “Do not fight with
anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.”
And it came to pass, when the
captains of the
chariots saw
Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and
Jehoshaphat cried out.
And it came to pass, when the
captains of the
chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.
And when the
chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.
Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.
Then King
Ahaziah sent to
Elijah a
captain with his company of fifty men. So the
captain went up to
Elijah, who was sitting on top of a hill, and said to him, “Man of God, the king declares, ‘Come down!’”
And
Elijah answered and said to the
captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and
consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
Elijah answered the
captain, “If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and
consume you and your fifty men.” And fire came down from heaven and consumed the
captain and his fifty men.
Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.
So the king sent to
Elijah another
captain with his fifty men. And the
captain said to
Elijah, “Man of God, the king declares, ‘Come down at once!’”
And
Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and
consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
Again
Elijah replied, “If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and
consume you and your fifty men.” And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed the
captain and his fifty men.
And he sent again a
captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third
captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before
Elijah, and
besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.
So the king sent a third
captain with his fifty men. And the third
captain went up, fell on his knees before
Elijah, and
begged him, “Man of God, may my life and the lives of these fifty servants please be precious in your sight.
Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two
captains of the former
fifties with their
fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight.
Behold, fire has come down from heaven and consumed the first two captains of fifty, with all their men. But now may my life be precious in your sight.”
And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.
and
Elisha said to Gehazi, “Now tell her, ‘Look, you have gone to all this trouble for us. What can we do for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?’” “I have a home among my own people,” she replied.
Now
Naaman,
captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given
deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a
leper.
Now
Naaman, the commander of the army of the king of
Aram, was a great man in his master’s sight and highly regarded, for through him the LORD had given victory to
Aram. And he was a mighty man of
valor, but he was a
leper.
And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away
captive out of the land of Israel a little
maid; and she waited on
Naaman’s wife.
At this time the Arameans had gone out in bands and had taken a young
girl from the land of Israel, and she was serving
Naaman’s wife.
And he said, Go and
spy where he is, that I may send and
fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.
So the king said, “Go and see where he is, that I may send men to
capture him.” On receiving the report, “
Elisha is in Dothan,”
And he answered, Thou shalt not
smite them: wouldest thou
smite those whom thou hast taken
captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
“Do not kill them,” he replied. “Would you kill those you have captured with your own sword or bow? Set food and water before them, that they may eat and drink and then return to their master.”
So
Joram went over to Zair, and all the
chariots with him: and he rose by night, and
smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the
captains of the
chariots: and the people fled into their tents.
So Jehoram crossed over to Zair with all his
chariots. When the Edomites surrounded him and his
chariot commanders, he rose up and attacked by night. His troops, however, fled to their homes.
And when he came, behold, the
captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an
errand to thee, O
captain. And
Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O
captain.
and when he arrived, the army commanders were sitting there. “I have a message for you, commander,” he said. “For which of us?” asked
Jehu. “For you, commander,” he replied.
Then said
Jehu to Bidkar his
captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of
Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and thou
rode together after
Ahab his father, the LORD laid this burden upon him;
And
Jehu said to Bidkar his officer, “
Pick him up and throw him into the field of
Naboth the Jezreelite. For remember that when you and I were riding together behind his father
Ahab, the LORD lifted up this burden against him:
And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that
Jehu said to the guard and to the
captains, Go in, and
slay them; let none come forth. And they
smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the
captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of
Baal.
When he had finished making the burnt offering,
Jehu said to the guards and officers, “Go in and kill them. Do not let
anyone out.” So the guards and officers put them to the sword, threw the bodies out, and went into the inner room of the temple of
Baal.
And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and
fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the
captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and shewed them the king’s son.
Then in the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, and the guards, and had them brought into the house of the LORD. There he made a covenant with them and put them under oath. He showed them the king’s son
And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
So the commanders of hundreds did everything that Jehoiada the priest had ordered. Each of them took his men—those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty—and came to Jehoiada the priest.
And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David’s spears and shields, that were in the temple of the LORD.
Then the priest gave to the commanders of hundreds the spears and shields of King David from the house of the LORD.
But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the LORD.
And Jehoiada the priest ordered the commanders of hundreds in charge of the army, “Bring her out between the ranks, and put to the sword
anyone who follows her.” For the priest had said, “She must not be put to death in the house of the LORD.”
And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the LORD, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.
He took with him the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, the guards, and all the people of the land, and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD and entered the royal palace by way of the Gate of the Guards. Then
Joash took his seat on the royal throne,
Then
Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against
Gath, and took it: and
Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.
At that time
Hazael king of
Aram marched up and fought against
Gath and
captured it. Then he decided to attack Jerusalem.
And Jehoash king of Israel took
Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of
Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and
brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
There at Beth-shemesh, Jehoash king of Israel
captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of
Joash, the son of
Ahaziah. Then Jehoash went to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate—a section of four hundred cubits.
But Pekah the son of Remaliah, a
captain of his,
conspired against him, and
smote him in Samaria, in the palace of the king’s house, with
Argob and Arieh, and with him fifty men of the Gileadites: and he killed him, and reigned in his room.
Then his officer, Pekah son of Remaliah,
conspired against him along with
Argob, Arieh, and fifty men of
Gilead. And at the citadel of the king’s palace in Samaria, Pekah struck down and killed Pekahiah and reigned in his place.
In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and
Abel-beth-maachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and
Gilead, and
Galilee, all the land of
Naphtali, and carried them
captive to Assyria.
In the days of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria came and
captured Ijon,
Abel-beth-
maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor,
Gilead, and
Galilee, including all the land of
Naphtali, and he took the people as
captives to Assyria.
And the king of Assyria
hearkened unto him: for the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and took it, and carried the people of it
captive to Kir, and
slew Rezin.
So the king of Assyria
responded to him, marched up to Damascus, and
captured it. He took its people to Kir as
captives and put Rezin to death.
