Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.
Every morning I will remove all the wicked of the land, that I may cut off every
evildoer from the city of the LORD.
Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.
Blessed are those who
uphold justice, who practice righteousness at all times.
He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
He blesses them, and they multiply greatly; He does not let their herds diminish.
He shall not be afraid of evil
tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
He
does not fear bad news; his heart is
steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
His heart is
assured; he
does not fear, until he looks in triumph on his foes.
But our God is in the heavens: he hath done
whatsoever he hath pleased.
Our God is in heaven; He does as He pleases.
The voice of
rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD
doeth valiantly.
Shouts of joy and salvation resound in the tents of the righteous: “The right hand of the LORD performs with
valor!
The right hand of the LORD is
exalted: the right hand of the LORD
doeth valiantly.
The right hand of the LORD is
exalted! The right hand of the LORD performs with
valor!”
Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes.
You are good, and You do what is good; teach me Your statutes.
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
I wait for the LORD, my soul
doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
I wait for the LORD; my soul does wait, and in His word I put my hope.
Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.
The LORD does all that pleases Him in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and in all their depths.
To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever.
He alone
does great wonders. His loving devotion endures
forever.
He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legpower of the man.
For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
for the LORD disciplines the one He loves, as does a father the son in whom he delights.
Lest thou shouldest
ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
She does not consider the path of life; she does not know that her ways are unstable.
Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant
roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou
ravished always with her love.
A loving
doe, a graceful
fawn— may her breasts satisfy you always; may you be
captivated by her love
forever.
But
whoso committeth
adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that
doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
Does not wisdom call out, and understanding raise her voice?
The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to
famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
The LORD
does not let the righteous go
hungry, but He denies the
craving of the wicked.
The
merciful man
doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings trouble on himself.
The
slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a
diligent man is precious.
A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a
scorner heareth not
rebuke.
A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
The lips of the wise
disperse knowledge: but the heart of the
foolish doeth not so.
The lips of the wise spread knowledge, but not so the hearts of fools.
A
scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
A
mocker does not love to be reproved, nor will he
consult the wise.
A wicked man listens to evil lips; a
liar gives ear to a destructive tongue.
He that begetteth a
fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a
fool hath no joy.
A man fathers a
fool to his own grief; the father of a
fool has no joy.
A
merry heart
doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
A
fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
A
fool does not delight in understanding, but only in airing his opinions.
The
sluggard will not
plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he
beg in harvest, and have nothing.
The slacker
does not
plow in season; at harvest time he looks, but nothing is there.
Wisdom is too high for a
fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
Wisdom is too high for a
fool; he
does not open his mouth in the meeting place.
If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not;
doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul,
doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
If you say, “Behold, we did not know about this,” does not He who weighs hearts consider it? Does not the One who guards your life know? Will He not repay a man according to his deeds?
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who does not control his temper.
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a
fool.
Like snow in summer and rain at harvest, honor
does not
befit a
fool.
As the bird by wandering, as the
swallow by flying, so the
curse causeless shall not come.
For riches are not for ever: and
doth the crown
endure to every generation?
for riches are not
forever, nor
does a crown
endure to every generation.
A man that
doeth violence to the blood of any person shall
flee to the pit; let no man stay him.
A man burdened by bloodguilt will
flee into the Pit; let no one support him.
He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.
A
stingy man hastens after wealth and
does not know that poverty awaits him.
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
What does a man gain from all his labor, at which he toils under the sun?
For what hath man of all his labour, and of the
vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun?
For what
does a man get for all the
toil and
striving with which he labors under the sun?
For all his days are sorrows, and his
travail grief;
yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.
Indeed, all his days are filled with grief, and his task is sorrowful; even at night, his mind
does not rest. This too is
futile.
What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
What
does the worker gain from his
toil?
I know that,
whatsoever God
doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God
doeth it, that men should fear before him.
I know that everything God
does endures
forever; nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God
does it so that they should fear Him.
And this also is a
sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind?
This too is a
grievous evil: Exactly as a man is born, so he will depart. What
does he gain as he toils for the wind?
Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.
Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in all the labor one does under the sun during the few days of life that God has given him—for this is his lot.
A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.
God gives a man riches, wealth, and honor, so that he lacks nothing his heart desires; but God
does not allow him to enjoy them. Instead, a stranger will enjoy them. This is
futile and a
grievous affliction.
If a man
beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he.
A man may father a hundred children and live for many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he is unsatisfied with his prosperity and
does not even receive a proper burial, I say that a
stillborn child is better off than he.
Seeing there be many things that increase vanity, what is man the better?
For the more words, the more
futility—and how
does that profit
anyone?
For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Surely there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.
Be not
hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he
doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.
Do not
hasten to leave his presence, and do not
persist in a bad cause, for he will do whatever he pleases.
Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?
For the king’s word is supreme, and who can say to him, “What are you doing?”
Though a
sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:
Although a
sinner does evil a hundred times and still lives long, yet I also know that it will go well with those who fear God, who are
reverent in His presence.
For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
So I took all this to heart and concluded that the righteous and the wise, as well as their deeds, are in God’s hands. Man
does not know what lies
ahead, whether love or
hate.
All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the
sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
It is the same for all: There is a common fate for the righteous and the wicked, for the good and the bad, for the clean and the unclean, for the one who sacrifices and the one who
does not. As it is for the good, so it is for the
sinner; as it is for the one who makes a
vow, so it is for the one who refuses to take a
vow.
The labour of the
foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.
The
toil of a
fool wearies him, for he
does not know the way to the city.
I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye
stir not up, nor
awake my love, till he please.
O daughters of Jerusalem, I
adjure you by the gazelles and
does of the field: Do not
arouse or
awaken love until the time is right.
I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye
stir not up, nor
awake my love, till he please.
O daughters of Jerusalem, I
adjure you by the gazelles and
does of the field: Do not
arouse or
awaken love until the time is right.
The ox knoweth his owner, and the
ass his master’s
crib: but Israel
doth not know, my people
doth not consider.
The ox knows its owner, and the
donkey its master’s
manger, but Israel
does not know; My people do not understand.”
Shall the
axe boast itself against him that heweth
therewith? or shall the saw
magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should
shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.
Does an
axe raise itself above the one who swings it?
Does a saw
boast over him who saws with it? It would be like a rod waving the one who lifts it, or a staff lifting him who is not wood!
The LORD hath mingled a
perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to
err in every work thereof, as a
drunken man staggereth in his
vomit.
The LORD has poured into her a spirit of confusion. Egypt has been led
astray in all she
does, as a
drunkard staggers through his own
vomit.
Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD.
Though grace is shown to the wicked man, he does not learn righteousness. In the land of righteousness he acts unjustly and fails to see the majesty of the LORD.
When he hath made plain the face thereof,
doth he not cast abroad the
fitches, and
scatter the
cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and
rie in their place?
When he has leveled its surface,
does he not
sow caraway and
scatter cumin? He plants wheat in rows and barley in plots, and
rye within its border.
Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.
Yet He too is wise and brings
disaster; He
does not call back His words. He will rise up against the house of the wicked and against the allies of evildoers.
Look upon
Zion, the city of our
solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet
habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.
Look upon
Zion, the city of our appointed feasts. Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful pasture, a tent that
does not
wander; its tent pegs will not be pulled up, nor will any of its cords be broken.
Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the
potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
Woe to him who quarrels with his Maker— one clay pot among many.
Does the clay ask the
potter, ‘What are you making?’
Does your work say, ‘He has no hands’?
They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove:
yea, one shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble.
They lift it to their shoulder and carry it along; they set it in its place, and there it stands, not
budging from that spot. They cry out to it, but it
does not answer; it saves no one from his troubles.
Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely
clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a
bride doeth.
Lift up your eyes and look around. They all gather together; they come to you. As surely as I live,” declares the LORD, “you will wear them all as
jewelry and put them on like a
bride.
Wherefore do ye
spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not?
hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
Why
spend money on that which is not bread, and your labor on that which
does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of foods.
Blessed is the man that
doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from
polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
Blessed is the man who
does this, and the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without
profaning it and keeps his hand from doing any evil.”
Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and
forsook not the
ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.
For day after day they seek Me and delight to know My ways, like a nation that
does what is right and
does not
forsake the justice of their God. They ask Me for righteous judgments; they delight in the nearness of God.”
But your
iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have
hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
But your
iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He
does not hear.
Therefore is judgment far from us, neither
doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness.
Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness
does not reach us. We hope for light, but there is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in
gloom.
Doubtless thou art our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: thou, O LORD, art our father, our
redeemer; thy name is from
everlasting.
Yet You are our Father, though Abraham
does not know us and Israel
does not acknowledge us. You, O LORD, are our Father; our
Redeemer from
Everlasting is Your name.
Can a
maid forget her ornaments, or a
bride her
attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore
doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have
forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
And when the people ask, ‘For what
offense has the LORD our God done all these things to us?’ You are to tell them, ‘Just as you have
forsaken Me and served foreign gods in your land, so will you serve foreigners in a land that is not your own.’”
Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?
So you are to tell them this is what the LORD says: “Do men fall and not get up again? Does one turn away and not return?
Why then is this people of Jerusalem
slidden back by a perpetual
backsliding? they hold fast
deceit, they refuse to return.
Why then have these people turned away? Why
does Jerusalem always turn away? They
cling to
deceit; they refuse to return.
And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel;
Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,
You must tell them that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says:
Cursed is the man who
does not obey the words of this covenant,
What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought
lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou
doest evil, then thou rejoicest.
What right has My beloved in My house, having carried out so many evil schemes? Can consecrated meat
avert your
doom, so that you can
rejoice?
Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I
plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore
doth the way of the wicked
prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very
treacherously?
Righteous are You, O LORD, when I
plead before You. Yet about Your judgments I wish to
contend with You: Why
does the way of the wicked
prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?
Yea, the hind also
calved in the field, and
forsook it, because there was no grass.
Even the
doe in the field deserts her
newborn fawn because there is no grass.
Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to
wander, they have not
refrained their feet, therefore the LORD
doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
This is what the LORD says about this people: “Truly they love to
wander; they have not restrained their feet. So the LORD
does not accept them; He will now remember their guilt and call their sins to account.”
For who shall have
pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who shall
bemoan thee? or who shall go aside to ask how thou
doest?
Who will have
pity on you, O Jerusalem? Who will
mourn for you? Who will turn aside to ask about your
welfare?
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of
drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
He is like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the stream. It
does not fear when the heat comes, and its leaves are always green. It
does not
worry in a year of
drought, nor
does it cease to produce fruit.
If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will
repent of the good,
wherewith I said I would benefit them.
and if it
does evil in My sight and
does not
listen to My voice, then I will relent of the good I had intended for it.
Will a man leave the snow of
Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be
forsaken?
Does the snow of
Lebanon ever leave its rocky slopes? Or do its cool waters flowing from a distance ever run dry?
And it came to pass on the
morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magor-missabib.
The next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The LORD does not call you Pashhur, but Magor-missabib.
Shalt thou reign, because thou closest
thyself in
cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him?
Does it make you a king to
excel in
cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He administered justice and righteousness, and so it went well with him.
And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same
Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I
punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the
pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.
As for the nation or kingdom that
does not serve
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and
does not place its neck under his yoke, I will
punish that nation by sword and famine and plague, declares the LORD, until I have destroyed it by his hand.
Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the
pestilence, as the LORD hath spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?
Why should you and your people die by sword and famine and plague, as the LORD has decreed against any nation that does not serve the king of Babylon?
Cursed is the one who is remiss in doing the work of the LORD, and
cursed is he who withholds his sword from
bloodshed.
To
subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.
Yet if thou
warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
But if you
warn a wicked man and he
does not turn from his wickedness and his wicked way, he will die in his iniquity, but you will have saved
yourself.
Nevertheless if thou
warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he
doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is
warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.
But if you
warn the righteous man not to sin, and he
does not sin, he will indeed live because he
heeded your
warning, and you will have saved
yourself.”
