Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will
profane my sanctuary, the
excellency of your strength, the desire of your
eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall fall by the sword.
Tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I am about to
desecrate My sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your
eyes, and the delight of your soul. And the sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.’
Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their
eyes, and that
whereupon they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,
And you, son of man, know that on the day I take away their
stronghold, their pride and joy—the desire of their
eyes which
uplifted their souls—and their sons and daughters as well,
Thou hast
defiled thy
sanctuaries by the multitude of thine
iniquities, by the iniquity of thy
traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall
devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
By the multitude of your
iniquities and the
dishonesty of your trading you have
profaned your
sanctuaries. So I made fire come from within you, and it consumed you. I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the
eyes of all who saw you.
Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?
Therefore tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘You eat meat with the blood in it, lift up your eyes to your idols, and shed blood. Should you then possess the land?
And I will
sanctify my great name, which was
profaned among the heathen, which ye have
profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be
sanctified in you before their
eyes.
I will show the
holiness of My great name, which has been
profaned among the nations—the name you have
profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord GOD, when I show My
holiness in you before their
eyes.
And the sticks
whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their
eyes.
When the sticks on which you write are in your hand and in full view of the people,
And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be
sanctified in thee, O
Gog, before their
eyes.
You will advance against My people Israel like a cloud covering the land. It will happen in the latter days, O
Gog, that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I show Myself holy in you before their
eyes.
Thus will I
magnify myself, and
sanctify myself; and I will be known in the
eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD.
I will
magnify and
sanctify Myself, and will
reveal Myself in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine
eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall
shew thee; for to the intent that I might
shew them unto thee art thou brought
hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.
“Son of man,” he said to me, “look with your eyes, hear with your ears, and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for that is why you have been brought here. Report to the house of Israel everything you see.”
And the LORD said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the LORD, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.
The LORD said to me: “Son of man, pay attention; look carefully with your
eyes and
listen closely with your ears to everything I tell you concerning all the statutes and laws of the house of the LORD. Take careful note of the entrance to the temple, along with all the exits of the sanctuary.
And at the end of the days I
Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine
eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an
everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
But at the end of those days I,
Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven, and my
sanity was restored to me. Then I praised the Most High, and I honored and
glorified Him who lives
forever: “For His dominion is an
everlasting dominion, and His kingdom endures from generation to generation.
I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns
plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were
eyes like the
eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
While I was
contemplating the horns, suddenly another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had
eyes like those of a man and a mouth that spoke words of
arrogance.
And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had
eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more
stout than his fellows.
I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and the other horn that came up, before which three of them fell—the horn whose appearance was more imposing than the others, with
eyes and with a mouth that spoke words of
arrogance.
Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a ram with two horns standing beside the canal. The horns were long, but one was longer than the other, and the longer one grew up later.
And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.
As I was
contemplating all this, suddenly a goat with a prominent horn between his
eyes came out of the west, crossing the surface of the entire earth without touching the ground.
And the rough goat is the king of
Grecia: and the great horn that is between his
eyes is the first king.
The
shaggy goat represents the king of Greece, and the large horn between his
eyes is the first king.
O my God,
incline thine ear, and hear; open thine
eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great
mercies.
Incline Your ear, O my God, and hear; open Your
eyes and see the
desolation of the city that bears Your name. For we are not presenting our petitions before You because of our righteous acts, but because of Your great
compassion.
Then I lifted up mine
eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were
girded with fine gold of Uphaz:
I lifted up my
eyes, and behold, there was a certain man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his
waist.
His body also was like the
beryl, and his face as the appearance of
lightning, and his
eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.
His body was like
beryl, his face like the brilliance of
lightning, his
eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the
gleam of polished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude.
I will
ransom them from the power of the grave; I will
redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction:
repentance shall be
hid from mine
eyes.
Is not the meat cut off before our
eyes,
yea, joy and
gladness from the house of our God?
Has not the food been cut off before our very
eyes— joy and
gladness from the house of our God?
And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall
slay them: and I will set mine
eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.
Though they are driven by their enemies into captivity, there I will command the sword to
slay them. I will fix My
eyes upon them for
harm and not for good.”
Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.
Surely the eyes of the Lord GOD are on the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth. Yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” declares the LORD.
Now also many nations are gathered against thee, that say, Let her be
defiled, and let our
eye look upon
Zion.
But now many nations have assembled against you, saying, “Let her be
defiled, and let us feast our
eyes on
Zion.”
Then she that is mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her which said unto me, Where is the LORD thy God? mine
eyes shall behold her: now shall she be
trodden down as the
mire of the streets.
Then my enemy will see and will be covered with shame— she who said to me, “Where is the LORD your God?” My
eyes will see her; at that time she will be
trampled like mud in the streets.
Thou art of purer
eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal
treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
Your
eyes are too pure to look upon evil, and You cannot
tolerate wrongdoing. So why do You
tolerate the faithless? Why are You silent while the wicked
swallow up those more righteous than themselves?
At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the LORD.
At that time I will bring you in;
yes, at that time I will gather you. For I will give you fame and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your
captives before your very
eyes,” says the LORD.
Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?
‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not appear to you like nothing in comparison?’
Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.
Then I looked up and saw four horns.
I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which
spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his
eye.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “After His Glory has sent Me against the nations that have
plundered you—for
whoever touches you touches the apple of His
eye—
For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven
eyes: behold, I will
engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
See the stone I have set before Joshua; on that one stone are seven
eyes. Behold, I will
engrave on it an inscription, declares the LORD of Hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day.
For who hath
despised the day of small things? for they shall
rejoice, and shall see the
plummet in the hand of
Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the
eyes of the LORD, which run to and
fro through the whole earth.
For who has
despised the day of small things? But these seven
eyes of the LORD, which
scan the whole earth, will
rejoice when they see the
plumb line in the hand of
Zerubbabel.”
Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll.
Again I lifted up my
eyes and saw before me a flying
scroll.
Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.
Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and told me, “Now lift up your eyes and see what is approaching.”
Then lifted I up mine
eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a
stork: and they lifted up the
ephah between the earth and the heaven.
Then I lifted up my
eyes and saw two women approaching, with the wind in their wings. Their wings were like those of a
stork, and they lifted up the
basket between heaven and earth.
And I turned, and lifted up mine
eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four
chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
And again I lifted up my
eyes and saw four
chariots coming out from between two mountains—mountains of bronze.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the
eyes of the
remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine
eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “If this is impossible in the
eyes of the
remnant of this people in these days, should it also be impossible in My
eyes?” declares the LORD of Hosts.
The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD.
This is the burden of the word of the LORD against the land of Hadrach and Damascus its resting place— for the eyes of men and of all the tribes of Israel are upon the LORD—
And I will
encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no
oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine
eyes.
But I will camp around My house because of an army, because of those who march to and
fro, and never again will an
oppressor overrun My people, for now I keep watch with My own
eyes.
Woe to the
idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right
eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right
eye shall be utterly
darkened.
Woe to the worthless
shepherd, who deserts the flock! May a sword strike his arm and his right
eye! May his arm be completely
withered and his right
eye utterly blinded!”
In that day, saith the LORD, I will
smite every horse with
astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine
eyes upon the house of Judah, and will
smite every horse of the people with blindness.
On that day, declares the LORD, I will strike every horse with
panic, and every rider with madness. I will keep a watchful
eye on the house of Judah, but I will strike with blindness all the horses of the nations.
And this shall be the plague
wherewith the LORD will
smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall
consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their
eyes shall
consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall
consume away in their mouth.
And this will be the plague with which the LORD strikes all the peoples who have
warred against Jerusalem: Their flesh will
rot while they stand on their feet, their
eyes will
rot in their sockets, and their tongues will
rot in their mouths.
And your
eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The LORD will be
magnified from the border of Israel.
You will see this with your own
eyes, and you
yourselves will say, ‘The LORD is great—even beyond the borders of Israel.’”
And if thy right
eye offend thee,
pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into
hell.
If your right
eye causes you to sin,
gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into
hell.
Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.’
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
And why beholdest thou the
mote that is in thy brother’s
eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own
eye?
Why do you look at the
speck in your brother’s
eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own
eye?
Or how
wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the
mote out of thine
eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own
eye?
How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the
speck out of your
eye,’ while there is still a beam in your own
eye?
Thou
hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own
eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the
mote out of thy brother’s
eye.
You
hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own
eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the
speck from your brother’s
eye.
Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
Then He touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you.”
And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
And their
eyes were opened. Jesus
warned them sternly, “See that no one finds out about this!”
For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their
eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their
eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should
heal them.
For this people’s heart has grown
callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their
eyes. Otherwise they might see with their
eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would
heal them.’
But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.
And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
And if thine
eye offend thee,
pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one
eye, rather than having two
eyes to be cast into
hell fire.
And if your
eye causes you to sin,
gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one
eye than to have two
eyes and be thrown into the fire of
hell.
And again I say unto you, It is easier for a
camel to go through the
eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Again I tell you, it is easier for a
camel to pass through the
eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
Do I not have the right to do as I please with what is mine? Or are you
envious because I am generous?’
They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
“Lord,” they answered, “let our eyes be opened.”
So Jesus had
compassion on them, and touched their
eyes: and immediately their
eyes received sight, and they followed him.
Moved with
compassion, Jesus touched their
eyes, and at once they received their sight and followed Him.
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is
marvelous in our
eyes’?
And he came and found them
asleep again: for their
eyes were heavy.
And again Jesus returned and found them sleeping—for their eyes were heavy.
Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
‘Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear?’ And do you not remember?
And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had
spit on his
eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. Then He
spit on the man’s
eyes and placed His hands on him. “Can you see anything?” He asked.
After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
Once again Jesus placed His hands on the man’s eyes, and when he opened them his sight was restored, and he could see everything clearly.
And if thine
eye offend thee,
pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one
eye, than having two
eyes to be cast into
hell fire:
And if your
eye causes you to sin,
pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one
eye than to have two
eyes and be thrown into
hell,
It is easier for a
camel to go through the
eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
It is easier for a
camel to pass through the
eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
This is from the Lord, and it is
marvelous in our
eyes’?”
And when he returned, he found them
asleep again, (for their
eyes were heavy,) neither
wist they what to answer him.
And again Jesus returned and found them sleeping—for their eyes were heavy. And they did not know what to answer Him.
Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
just as they were handed down to us by the initial eyewitnesses and servants of the word.
For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
For my eyes have seen Your salvation,
And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the
eyes of all them that were in the
synagogue were fastened on him.
And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
Looking up at His disciples, Jesus said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
And why beholdest thou the
mote that is in thy brother’s
eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own
eye?
Why do you look at the
speck in your brother’s
eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own
eye?
Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the
mote that is in thine
eye, when thou
thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own
eye? Thou
hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own
eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the
mote that is in thy brother’s
eye.
How can you say, ‘Brother, let me take the
speck out of your
eye,’ while you
yourself fail to see the beam in your own
eye? You
hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own
eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the
speck from your brother’s
eye.
And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:
Then Jesus turned to the disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body is full of darkness.
In Hades, where he was in
torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from
afar, with
Lazarus by his side.
But the tax
collector stood at a distance, unwilling even to lift up his
eyes to heaven. Instead, he beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a
sinner!’
For it is easier for a
camel to go through a needle’s
eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Indeed, it is easier for a
camel to pass through the
eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are
hid from thine
eyes.
and said, “If only you had known on this day what would bring you peace! But now it is hidden from your eyes.
But their
eyes were
holden that they should not know him.
But their eyes were kept from recognizing Him.
And their
eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he
vanished out of their sight.
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus—and He disappeared from their sight.
Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
Do you not say, ‘There are still four months until the harvest’? I tell you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ripe for harvest.
When Jesus then lifted up his
eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we
buy bread, that these may eat?
When Jesus looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where can we
buy bread for these people to eat?”
When he had thus spoken, he
spat on the ground, and made clay of the
spittle, and he
anointed the
eyes of the blind man with the clay,
When Jesus had said this, He
spit on the ground, made some mud, and applied it to the man’s
eyes.
Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
“How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.
He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and
anointed mine
eyes, and said unto me, Go to the
pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
He answered, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and
anointed my
eyes, and He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed and received my sight.”
And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened his eyes was a Sabbath.
Then again the
Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine
eyes, and I washed, and do see.
So the
Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. The man answered, “He put mud on my
eyes, and I washed, and now I can see.”
They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
So once again they asked the man who had been blind, “What do you say about Him, since it was your eyes He opened?” “He is a prophet,” the man replied.
But by what means he now
seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his
eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
But how he can now see or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him. He is old enough to speak for himself.”
Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
“What did He do to you?” they asked. “How did He open your eyes?”
The man answered and said unto them, Why
herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine
eyes.
“That is remarkable indeed!” the man said. “You do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes.
Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
Never before has
anyone heard of opening the
eyes of a man born blind.
Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?
But others replied, “These are not the words of a man possessed by a
demon. Can a
demon open the
eyes of the blind?”
And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
But some of them asked, “Could not this man who opened the
eyes of the blind also have kept
Lazarus from dying?”
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his
eyes, and said, Father, I
thank thee that thou hast heard me.
So they took away the stone. Then Jesus lifted His
eyes upward and said, “Father, I
thank You that You have heard Me.
