By thee
have I been
holden up from the
womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother’s
bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee.
I
have leaned on You since birth; You pulled me from my mother’s
womb. My praise is always for You.
I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge.
I
have become a
portent to many, but You are my strong refuge.
O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto
have I declared thy
wondrous works.
O God, You
have taught me from my youth, and to this day I
proclaim Your
marvelous deeds.
Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God,
forsake me not; until I
have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
Even when I am old and gray, do not
forsake me, O God, until I
proclaim Your power to the next generation, Your might to all who are to come.
Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!
Your righteousness reaches to the heavens, O God, You who have done great things. Who, O God, is like You?
Thou, which hast shewed me great and
sore troubles, shalt
quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.
Though You have shown me many troubles and misfortunes, You will revive me once again. Even from the depths of the earth You will bring me back up.
My lips shall greatly
rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.
When I sing praise to You my lips will
shout for joy, along with my soul, which You
have redeemed.
He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
May he rule from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth.
For he shall deliver the
needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.
For he will deliver the
needy who cry out and the
afflicted who
have no helper.

And they say, How
doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
The wicked say, “How can God know? Does the Most High have knowledge?”

have kept my heart pure; in
innocence I
have washed my hands.
For all the day long
have I been plagued, and
chastened every morning.
For I am
afflicted all day long and punished every morning.
If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should
offend against the generation of thy children.
If I had said, “I will speak this way,” then I would
have betrayed Your children.
Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
Whom have I in heaven but You? And on earth I desire no one besides You.
But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
But as for me, it is good to draw near to God. I
have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may
proclaim all Your works.
O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why
doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?
Why
have You rejected us
forever, O God? Why does Your anger
smolder against the sheep of Your pasture?
Thine enemies
roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.
Your foes
have roared within Your meeting place; they
have unfurled their banners as signs,
They
have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they
have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.
They
have burned Your sanctuary to the ground; they
have defiled the dwelling place of Your Name.
They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.
They said in their hearts, “We will
crush them completely.” They burned down every place where God met us in the land.

foolish people
have blasphemed thy name.

spoiled, they
have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might
have found their hands.
The
valiant lie
plundered; they sleep their last sleep. No men of might could lift a hand.
Thou holdest mine eyes
waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak.
I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.
I considered the days of old, the years long in the past.
I will
meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.
I will
reflect on all You
have done and
ponder Your mighty deeds.

O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple
have they
defiled; they
have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
The nations, O God,
have invaded Your inheritance; they
have defiled Your holy temple and reduced Jerusalem to
rubble.
The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.
They have given the corpses of Your servants as food to the birds of the air, the flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.
Their blood
have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to
bury them.
They
have poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there is no one to
bury the dead.
We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a
scorn and
derision to them that are round about us.
We
have become a reproach to our neighbors, a
scorn and
derision to those around us.

have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.
And render unto our neighbours
sevenfold into their
bosom their reproach,
wherewith they
have reproached thee, O Lord.
Pay back into the laps of our neighbors
sevenfold the reproach they
hurled at You, O Lord.

pluck her?
Why
have You broken down its walls, so that all who pass by
pick its fruit?
And the
vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for
thyself.
the root Your right hand has planted, the son You
have raised up for
Yourself.
Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for
thyself.
Let Your hand be upon the man at Your right hand, on the son of man You
have raised up for
Yourself.
I should soon
have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their
adversaries.
how soon I would
subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their foes!
The haters of the LORD should
have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should
have endured for ever.
He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.

tumult: and they that
hate thee
have lifted up the head.

rage, how Your foes

have taken
crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.
They
have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in
remembrance.

have consulted together with one consent: they are
confederate against thee:
For with one mind they plot together, they form an alliance against You—

hell.

assemblies of violent men
have sought after my soul; and

have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine
handmaid.

have mercy; grant Your strength to Your servant; save the son of Your

Show me a
token for good; that they which
hate me may see it, and be
ashamed: because thou, LORD, hast helped me, and comforted me.

ashamed; for You, O LORD,
have helped me and comforted me.
O LORD God of my salvation, I
have cried day and night before thee:
O LORD, the God of my salvation, day and night I cry out before You.

You have laid me in the lowest Pit, in the darkest of the depths.

afflicted me with all thy waves.

abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
You
have removed my friends from me; You
have made me
repulsive to them; I am confined and cannot escape.
Mine eye mourneth by reason of
affliction: LORD, I
have called daily upon thee, I
have stretched out my hands unto thee.
My eyes grow
dim with grief. I call to You daily, O LORD; I spread out my hands to You.
But unto thee
have I
cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.
But to You, O LORD, I cry for help; in the morning my prayer comes before You.
I am
afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.

afflicted and near death. I
have borne Your terrors; I am in
despair.

Your wrath has swept over me; Your terrors have destroyed me.
Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.
You have removed my beloved and my friend; darkness is my closest companion.

forever; in the heavens You establish Your faithfulness.”
I
have made a covenant with my chosen, I
have sworn unto David my servant,
You said, “I
have made a covenant with My chosen one, I
have sworn to David My servant:
Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I
have laid help upon one that is mighty; I
have exalted one chosen out of the people.
You once spoke in a vision; to Your godly ones You said, “I
have bestowed help on a
warrior; I
have exalted one chosen from the people.
I
have found David my servant; with my holy oil
have I
anointed him:
I
have found My servant David; with My sacred oil I
have anointed him.
Once and for all I
have sworn by My
holiness— I will not lie to David—
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast
profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
You
have renounced the covenant with Your servant and
sullied his crown in the dust.
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.
You
have broken down all his walls; You
have reduced his strongholds to
rubble.
Thou hast set up the right hand of his
adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to
rejoice.
You
have exalted the right hand of his foes; You
have made all his enemies
rejoice.
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.
You have bent the edge of his sword and have not sustained him in battle.

You
have ended his
splendor and cast his throne to the ground.

shortened: thou hast covered him with shame.
Selah.
You
have cut short the days of his youth; You
have covered him with shame.

Remember the briefness of my lifespan! For what
futility You
have created all men!

iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
You

iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your presence.

repent thee concerning thy servants.

Make us
glad according to the days wherein thou hast
afflicted us, and the years wherein we
have seen evil.
Make us
glad for as many days as You
have afflicted us, for as many years as we
have seen evil.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy
habitation;
Because you have made the LORD your dwelling— my refuge, the Most High—
For thou, LORD, hast made me
glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.
For You, O LORD,
have made me
glad by Your deeds; I sing for joy at the works of Your hands.
But You
have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; with fine oil I
have been
anointed.

have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?

grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do
err in their heart, and they
have not known my ways:
For forty years I was
angry with that generation, and I said, “They are a people whose hearts go
astray, and they
have not known My ways.”

gotten him the victory.

dost establish
equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob.

have established
equity; You
have exercised justice and righteousness in Jacob.

have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with
weeping,
For I have eaten ashes like bread and mixed my drink with tears

indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down.

have mercy upon
Zion: for the time to favour her,

have their
habitation, which sing among the branches.

The trees of the LORD are full of
sap; the cedars of
Lebanon, which he hath planted;
The trees of the LORD
have their fill, the cedars of
Lebanon that He planted,
O LORD, how
manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
How many are Your works, O LORD! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures.
I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

have sinned with our fathers, we
have committed iniquity, we
have done wickedly.

have sinned like our fathers; we
have done wrong and acted wickedly.

glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired
haven.
They
rejoiced in the silence, and He guided them to the
harbor they desired.
