And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.
Finally, the waters completely
inundated the earth, so that all the high mountains under all the heavens were covered.
And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the east.
Their territory extended from Mesha to Sephar, in the eastern hill country.
And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of
Bethel, and pitched his tent, having
Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
From there
Abram moved on to the
hill country east of
Bethel and pitched his tent, with
Bethel to the west and
Ai to the east. There he built an altar to the LORD, and he called on the name of the LORD.
And the
vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of
Sodom and
Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain.
Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and as the kings of
Sodom and
Gomorrah fled, some men fell into the pits, but the survivors fled to the
hill country.
So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount
Gilead.
So he fled with all his possessions, crossed the Euphrates, and headed for the
hill country of
Gilead.
And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days’ journey; and they overtook him in the mount
Gilead.

hill country of
Gilead.
Then
Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and
Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of
Gilead.
Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the
hill country of
Gilead when
Laban overtook him, and
Laban and his relatives camped there as well.
The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the
everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.
The blessings of your father have surpassed the blessings of the ancient mountains and the
bounty of the
everlasting hills. May they rest on the head of Joseph, on the
brow of the prince of his brothers.
And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to
morrow I will stand on the top of the
hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the
Amalekites.
Tomorrow I will stand on the
hilltop with the staff of God in my hand.”
So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
Joshua did as Moses had
instructed him and fought against the
Amalekites, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the
hill.
And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.
And Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD. Early the next morning he got up and built an altar at the base of the mountain, along with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.
And Moses sent them to
spy out the land of
Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
When Moses sent them to
spy out the land of
Canaan, he told them, “Go up through the Negev and into the
hill country.
The
Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the
Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the
Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the
Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
And they rose up early in the morning, and
gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have
sinned.
Early the next morning they got up and went up toward the ridge of the
hill country. “We have indeed
sinned,” they said, “but we will go to the place the LORD has promised.”
But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
But they
dared to go up to the ridge of the
hill country, though neither Moses nor the ark of the covenant of the LORD moved from the camp.
Then the
Amalekites and
Canaanites who lived in that part of the
hill country came down, attacked them, and routed them all the way to Hormah.
For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
For I see them from
atop the rocky cliffs, and I watch them from the
hills. Behold, a people dwelling apart, not
reckoning themselves among the nations.
Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the
Amorites, and unto all the places
nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the
hills, and in the
vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the
Canaanites, and unto
Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.
Resume your journey and go to the
hill country of the
Amorites; go to all the
neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the
hill country, in the foothills, in the Negev, and along the
seacoast to the land of the
Canaanites and to
Lebanon, as far as the great River Euphrates.
And when we departed from
Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the
Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.
And just as the LORD our God had commanded us, we set out from
Horeb and went toward the
hill country of the
Amorites, through all the vast and
terrifying wilderness you have seen. When we reached Kadesh-barnea,
And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the
Amorites, which the LORD our God
doth give unto us.
I said: “You have reached the
hill country of the
Amorites, which the LORD our God is giving us.
And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of
Eshcol, and searched it out.
They left and went up into the
hill country, and came to the Valley of
Eshcol and
spied out the land.
Then ye answered and said unto me, We have
sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had
girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the
hill.
“We have
sinned against the LORD,” you replied. “We will go up and fight, as the LORD our God has commanded us.” Then each of you put on his weapons of war, thinking it easy to go up into the
hill country.
So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went
presumptuously up into the
hill.
So I spoke to you, but you would not
listen. You rebelled against the command of the LORD and
presumptuously went up into the
hill country.
And the
Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and
chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in
Seir, even unto Hormah.
Then the
Amorites who lived in the
hills came out against you and
chased you like a
swarm of bees. They routed you from
Seir all the way to Hormah.
Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
“You have been wandering around this hill country long enough; turn to the north
Only unto the land of the children of
Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river
Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto
whatsoever the LORD our God
forbad us.
But you did not go near the land of the
Ammonites, or the land along the banks of the
Jabbok River, or the cities of the
hill country, or any place that the LORD our God had forbidden.
And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river
Arnon, and half mount
Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites.
So at that time we took possession of this land. To the Reubenites and Gadites I gave the land beyond Aroer along the
Arnon Valley, and half the
hill country of
Gilead, along with its cities.
I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and
Lebanon.
Please let me cross over and see the good land beyond the Jordan—that pleasant
hill country as well as
Lebanon!”
For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of
brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and
hills;
For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of
brooks and fountains and springs that flow through the valleys and
hills;
A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without
scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose
hills thou mayest
dig brass.
a land where you will eat food without
scarcity, where you will lack nothing; a land whose rocks are iron and whose
hills are ready to be mined for copper.
But the land,
whither ye go to possess it, is a land of
hills and valleys, and drinketh water of the rain of heaven:
But the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks in the rain from heaven.
Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:
Destroy completely all the places where the nations you are dispossessing have served their gods—
atop the high mountains, on the
hills, and under every green tree.
And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills,
And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide
yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.
“Go to the
hill country,” she said, “so that your pursuers will not find you. Hide
yourselves there for three days until they have returned; then go on your way.”
And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
So the
spies went out into the
hill country and stayed there three days, until their pursuers had returned without finding them, having searched all along the road.
So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of
Nun, and told him all things that
befell them:
Then the two men started back, came down from the
hill country, and crossed the river. So they came to Joshua son of
Nun and reported all that had happened to them.
And Joshua made him sharp
knives, and
circumcised the children of Israel at the
hill of the foreskins.
And it came to pass, when all the kings which were on this side Jordan, in the
hills, and in the valleys, and in all the coasts of the great sea over against
Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the
Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard thereof;
And the men of
Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to
Gilgal, saying,
Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the
Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.
Then the men of
Gibeon sent word to Joshua in the camp at
Gilgal: “Do not
abandon your servants. Come quickly and save us! Help us, because all the kings of the
Amorites from the
hill country have joined forces against us.”
So Joshua
smote all the country of the
hills, and of the south, and of the
vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.
So Joshua conquered the whole region—the hill country, the Negev, the foothills, and the slopes, together with all their kings—leaving no survivors. He devoted to destruction everything that breathed, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded.
And to the
Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under
Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.
So Joshua took all that land, the
hills, and all the south country, and all the land of
Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;
So Joshua took this entire region: the
hill country, all the Negev, all the land of
Goshen, the western foothills, the Arabah, and the mountains of Israel and their foothills,
And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from
Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities.
At that time Joshua proceeded to
eliminate the
Anakim from the
hill country of
Hebron, Debir, and Anab, and from all the
hill country of Judah and of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction, along with their cities.
In the mountains, and in the valleys, and in the plains, and in the springs, and in the wilderness, and in the south country; the
Hittites, the
Amorites, and the
Canaanites, the
Perizzites, the
Hivites, and the Jebusites:
the
hill country, the foothills, the Arabah, the slopes, the wilderness, and the Negev—the lands of the
Hittites,
Amorites,
Canaanites,
Perizzites,
Hivites, and Jebusites):
All the inhabitants of the
hill country from
Lebanon unto Misrephoth-
maim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.
All the inhabitants of the
hill country from
Lebanon to Misrephoth-
maim—all the Sidonians—I Myself will drive out before the Israelites. Be sure to divide it by lot as an inheritance to Israel, as I have commanded you.
And Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zareth-shahar in the mount of the valley,
Kiriathaim, Sibmah, Zereth-shahar on the hill in the valley,
Now therefore give me this mountain,
whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and
fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.
Now therefore give me this
hill country that the LORD promised me on that day, for you
yourself heard then that the
Anakim were there, with great and fortified cities. Perhaps with the LORD’s help I will drive them out, as the LORD has spoken.”
And the border went up by the valley of the son of
Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite; the same is Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of
Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward:
From there the border went up the Valley of
Hinnom along the southern slope of the Jebusites (that is, Jerusalem) and ascended to the top of the
hill that faces the Valley of
Hinnom on the west, at the northern end of the Valley of
Rephaim.
And the border was drawn from the top of the hill unto the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to Baalah, which is Kirjath-jearim:
From the
hilltop the border curved to the spring of the Waters of Nephtoah, proceeded to the cities of Mount Ephron, and then bent around toward Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim).
And in the mountains, Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh,
These were in the hill country:
And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by
Jericho, unto the water of
Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goeth up from
Jericho throughout mount
Bethel,
The
allotment for the descendants of Joseph extended from the Jordan at
Jericho to the waters of
Jericho on the east, through the wilderness that goes up from
Jericho into the
hill country of
Bethel.
And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for
thyself there in the land of the
Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.
Joshua answered them, “If you have so many people that the
hill country of Ephraim is too small for you, go to the forest and clear for
yourself an area in the land of the
Perizzites and the
Rephaim.”
And the children of Joseph said, The
hill is not enough for us: and all the
Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have
chariots of iron, both they who are of Beth-shean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of
Jezreel.
“The
hill country is not enough for us,” they replied, “and all the
Canaanites who live in the valley have iron
chariots, both in Beth-shean with its towns and in the Valley of
Jezreel.”
But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the
Canaanites, though they have iron
chariots, and though they be strong.
because the
hill country will be yours as well. It is a forest; clear it, and its
farthest limits will be yours. Although the
Canaanites have iron
chariots and although they are strong, you can drive them out.”
And their border on the north side was from Jordan; and the border went up to the side of
Jericho on the north side, and went up through the mountains westward; and the goings out thereof were at the wilderness of Beth-
aven.
On the north side their border began at the Jordan, went up past the northern slope of
Jericho, headed west through the
hill country, and came out at the wilderness of Beth-
aven.
And the border went over from thence toward
Luz, to the side of
Luz, which is
Bethel, southward; and the border descended to Ataroth-
adar, near the
hill that lieth on the south side of the
nether Beth-horon.
From there the border crossed over to the southern slope of
Luz (that is,
Bethel) and went down to Ataroth-addar on the
hill south of Lower Beth-horon.
And the border was drawn thence, and compassed the corner of the sea southward, from the
hill that lieth before Beth-horon southward; and the goings out thereof were at Kirjath-
baal, which is Kirjath-jearim, a city of the children of Judah: this was the west quarter.
On the west side the border curved southward from the
hill facing Beth-horon on the south and came out at Kiriath-
baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), a city of the sons of Judah. This was the western side.
And the border came down to the end of the mountain that lieth before the valley of the son of
Hinnom, and which is in the valley of the giants on the north, and descended to the valley of
Hinnom, to the side of Jebusi on the south, and descended to En-rogel,
Then it went down to the foot of the
hill that faces the Valley of
Hinnom at the northern end of the Valley of
Rephaim and ran down the Valley of
Hinnom toward the southern slope of the Jebusites and
downward to En-rogel.
According to the word of the LORD they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnath-serah in mount Ephraim: and he built the city, and dwelt therein.
as the LORD had commanded. They gave him the city of Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim, as he requested. He rebuilt the city and settled in it.
And they appointed Kedesh in
Galilee in mount
Naphtali, and
Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjath-arba, which is
Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.
So they set apart Kedesh in
Galilee in the
hill country of
Naphtali,
Shechem in the
hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (that is,
Hebron) in the
hill country of Judah.
And they gave them the city of Arba the father of
Anak, which city is
Hebron, in the
hill country of Judah, with the suburbs thereof round about it.
They gave them Kiriath-arba (that is,
Hebron), with its surrounding pasturelands, in the
hill country of Judah. (Arba was the father of
Anak.)
For they gave them
Shechem with her suburbs in mount Ephraim, to be a city of refuge for the
slayer; and
Gezer with her suburbs,
From the tribe of Ephraim they were given
Shechem in the
hill country of Ephraim (a city of refuge for the
manslayer),
Gezer,
And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-serah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.
And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
And
Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a
hill that
pertained to
Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.
Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at Gibeah, which had been given to his son
Phinehas in the
hill country of Ephraim.
And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the
Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
Afterward, the men of Judah marched down to fight against the
Canaanites living in the
hill country, in the Negev, and in the foothills.
And the LORD was with Judah; and he
drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had
chariots of iron.
The LORD was with Judah, and they took possession of the
hill country; but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the plains because they had
chariots of iron.
And the
Amorites forced the children of
Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
The
Amorites forced the Danites into the
hill country and did not allow them to come down into the plain.
And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.
They buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath-heres in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
And it came to pass, when he was come, that he
blew a
trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.
On arriving in Seirah, he
blew the ram’s horn throughout the
hill country of Ephraim. The Israelites came down with him from the
hills, and he became their leader.
And she dwelt under the palm tree of
Deborah between
Ramah and
Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
And she would sit under the Palm of
Deborah between
Ramah and
Bethel in the
hill country of Ephraim, where the Israelites would go up to her for judgment.
Then Jerubbaal, who is
Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the
hill of Moreh, in the valley.
Early in the morning Jerubbaal (that is,
Gideon) and all the men with him camped beside the spring of Harod. And the camp of
Midian was north of them in the valley near the
hill of Moreh.
And
Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Beth-barah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Beth-barah and Jordan.
Gideon sent messengers throughout the
hill country of Ephraim to say, “Come down against the Midianites and seize the waters of the Jordan
ahead of them as far as Beth-barah.” So all the men of Ephraim were called out, and they captured the waters of the Jordan as far as Beth-barah.
And the men of
Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they
robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told
Abimelech.
And after
Abimelech there arose to defend Israel
Tola the son of Puah, the son of
Dodo, a man of
Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in mount Ephraim.
After the time of
Abimelech, a man of
Issachar,
Tola son of Puah, the son of
Dodo, rose up to save Israel. He lived in Shamir, in the
hill country of Ephraim.
And after him Abdon the son of
Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.
After Elon, Abdon son of
Hillel, from Pirathon, judged Israel.
And Abdon the son of
Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the
Amalekites.
Then Abdon son of
Hillel, from Pirathon, died, and he was buried at Pirathon in Ephraim, in the
hill country of the
Amalekites.
And
Samson lay till
midnight, and arose at
midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an
hill that is before
Hebron.
But
Samson lay there only until
midnight, when he got up, took hold of the doors of the city gate and both gateposts, and pulled them out, bar and all. Then he put them on his shoulders and took them to the top of the mountain overlooking
Hebron.
And there was a man of mount Ephraim, whose name was
Micah.
Now a man named
Micah from the
hill country of Ephraim
And the man departed out of the city from Bethlehemjudah to
sojourn where he could find a place: and he came to mount Ephraim to the house of
Micah, as he journeyed.
This man left the city of
Bethlehem in Judah to settle where he could find a place. And as he traveled, he came to
Micah’s house in the
hill country of Ephraim.
And the children of
Dan sent of their family five men from their coasts, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to
spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of
Micah, they
lodged there.
So the Danites sent out five men from their clans, men of
valor from Zorah and Eshtaol, to
spy out the land and
explore it. “Go and
explore the land,” they told them. The men entered the
hill country of Ephraim and came to the house of
Micah, where they spent the night.
And they passed thence unto mount Ephraim, and came unto the house of
Micah.
And from there they traveled to the
hill country of Ephraim and came to
Micah’s house.
And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain
Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a
concubine out of Bethlehemjudah.
Now in those days, when there was no king in Israel, a
Levite who lived in the remote
hill country of Ephraim took for himself a
concubine from
Bethlehem in Judah.
And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he
sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.
That evening an old man from the hill country of Ephraim, who was residing in Gibeah (the men of that place were Benjamites), came in from his work in the field.
And he said unto him, We are passing from Bethlehemjudah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Bethlehemjudah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.
The
Levite replied, “We are traveling from
Bethlehem in Judah to the remote
hill country of Ephraim, where I am from. I went to
Bethlehem in Judah, and now I am going to the house of the LORD; but no one has taken me into his home,
Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of
Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:
Now there was a man named Elkanah who was from Ramathaim-zophim in the
hill country of Ephraim. He was the son of Jeroham, the son of
Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
And the men of Kirjath-jearim came, and brought up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the
hill, and
sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.
Then the men of Kiriath-jearim came for the ark of the LORD and took it into Abinadab’s house on the
hill. And they consecrated his son
Eleazar to guard the ark of the LORD.
And he passed through mount Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they found them not: then they passed through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: and he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they found them not.
So Saul passed through the
hill country of Ephraim and then through the land of Shalishah, but did not find the
donkeys. He and the servant went through the region of Shaalim, but they were not there. Then they went through the land of Benjamin, and still they did not find them.
And as they went up the
hill to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said unto them, Is the
seer here?
And as they were
climbing the
hill to the city, they met some young women coming out to draw water and asked, “Is the
seer here?”
After that thou shalt come to the
hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a
psaltery, and a
tabret, and a pipe, and a
harp, before them; and they shall
prophesy:
After that you will come to Gibeah of God, where the Philistines have an outpost. As you approach the city, you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place, preceded by harps, tambourines, flutes, and lyres, and they will be
prophesying.
And when they came thither to the
hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he
prophesied among them.
When Saul and his servant arrived at Gibeah, a group of prophets met him. Then the Spirit of God
rushed upon him, and he
prophesied along with them.
Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel;
whereof two thousand were with Saul in
Michmash and in mount
Bethel, and a thousand were with
Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.
He chose for himself three thousand men of Israel: Two thousand were with Saul at
Michmash and in the
hill country of
Bethel, and a thousand were with
Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. And the rest of the troops he sent away, each to his own home.
Likewise all the men of Israel which had
hid themselves in mount Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.
When all the Israelites who had been hiding in the
hill country of Ephraim heard that the Philistines were
fleeing, they also joined Saul and
Jonathan in the battle.
And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
The Philistines stood on one hill and the Israelites stood on another, with the valley between them.
When Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree in
Ramah, having his
spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him;)
Soon Saul learned that David and his men had been discovered. At that time Saul was in Gibeah, sitting under the
tamarisk tree on the
hill at Gibeah, with his
spear in hand and all his servants standing around him.
And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.
And David stayed in the wilderness strongholds and in the hill country of the Wilderness of Ziph. Day after day Saul searched for him, but God would not deliver David into his hand.
Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying,
Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the
hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?
Then the Ziphites came up to Saul at Gibeah and said, “Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hachilah south of Jeshimon?
And it was so, as she
rode on the
ass, that she came down by the
covert of the
hill, and, behold, David and his men came down against her; and she met them.
As
Abigail came riding her
donkey into a mountain
ravine, she saw David and his men coming down toward her, and she met them.
And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying,
Doth not David hide himself in the
hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?
Then the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah and said, “Is not David hiding on the hill of Hachilah, opposite Jeshimon?”
And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
Saul camped beside the road at the hill of Hachilah opposite Jeshimon, but David was living in the wilderness. When he realized that Saul had followed him there,
Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an
hill afar off; a great space being between them:
Then David crossed to the other side and stood
atop the mountain at a distance; there was a wide gulf between them.
