Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
In the same day shall the Lord
shave with a
razor that is
hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the
king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also
consume the
beard.
On that day the Lord will use a
razor hired from beyond the Euphrates—the
king of Assyria—to
shave your head and the hair of your legs, and to remove your
beard as well.
For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the
spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the
king of Assyria.
For before the boy knows how to cry ‘Father’ or ‘Mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the
plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the
king of Assyria.”
Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:
the Lord will surely bring against them the mighty floodwaters of the Euphrates— the
king of Assyria and all his
pomp. It will overflow its channels and overrun its banks.
And they shall pass through it, hardly
bestead and
hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be
hungry, they shall
fret themselves, and
curse their
king and their God, and look upward.
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his
kingdom, to establish and
sustain it with justice and righteousness from that time and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will
accomplish this.
For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall
devour the briers and thorns, and shall
kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.
For wickedness burns like a fire that consumes the thorns and briers and kindles the forest thickets which roll upward in billows of smoke.
For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?
“Are not all my commanders kings?” he says.
As my hand hath found the
kingdoms of the idols, and whose
graven images did
excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;
As my hand seized the
idolatrous kingdoms whose images surpassed those of Jerusalem and Samaria,
Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount
Zion and on Jerusalem, I will
punish the fruit of the
stout heart of the
king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.
So when the Lord has completed all His work against Mount
Zion and Jerusalem, He will say, “I will
punish the
king of Assyria for the fruit of his
arrogant heart and the proud look in his eyes.
Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones
leanness; and under his glory he shall
kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.
Therefore the Lord GOD of Hosts will send a wasting disease among Assyria’s
stout warriors, and under his
pomp will be
kindled a fire like a burning flame.
The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a
tumultuous noise of the
kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.
Listen, a
tumult on the mountains, like that of a great multitude!
Listen, an
uproar among the
kingdoms, like nations gathered together! The LORD of Hosts is
mobilizing an army for war.
And Babylon, the glory of
kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’
excellency, shall be as when God overthrew
Sodom and
Gomorrah.
And Babylon, the
jewel of the
kingdoms, the glory of the pride of the Chaldeans, will be overthrown by God like
Sodom and
Gomorrah.
That thou shalt take up this
proverb against the
king of Babylon, and say, How hath the
oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!
you will sing this song of contempt against the
king of Babylon: How the
oppressor has ceased, and how his
fury has ended!
Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the
kings of the nations.
Sheol beneath is eager to meet you upon your arrival. It stirs the spirits of the dead to
greet you— all the rulers of the earth. It makes all the
kings of the nations rise from their thrones.
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to
tremble, that did
shake kingdoms;
Those who see you will
stare; they will
ponder your fate: “Is this the man who
shook the earth and made the
kingdoms tremble,
All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.
All the kings of the nations lie in state, each in his own tomb.
In the year that
king Ahaz died was this burden.
In the year that
King Ahaz died, this burden was received:
The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the
kingdom from Damascus, and the
remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.
The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the sovereignty from Damascus. The
remnant of
Aram will be like the
splendor of the Israelites,” declares the LORD of Hosts.
And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.
“So I will
incite Egyptian against Egyptian; brother will fight against brother,
neighbor against
neighbor, city against city, and
kingdom against
kingdom.
And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.
I will deliver the Egyptians into the hands of harsh masters, and a fierce king will rule over them,” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.
Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counsellors of Pharaoh is become
brutish: how say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient
kings?
The princes of Zoan are mere fools; Pharaoh’s wise counselors give senseless advice. How can you say to Pharaoh, “I am one of the wise, a son of eastern kings”?
In the year that
Tartan came unto
Ashdod, (when
Sargon the
king of Assyria sent him,) and fought against
Ashdod, and took it;
Before the year that the chief commander, sent by
Sargon king of Assyria, came to
Ashdod and attacked and captured it,
So shall the
king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians
captives, young and old, naked and
barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.
so the
king of Assyria will lead away the
captives of Egypt and the exiles of
Cush, young and old alike, naked and
barefoot, with bared buttocks—to Egypt’s shame.
And the inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation,
whither we
flee for help to be delivered from the
king of Assyria: and how shall we escape?
And on that day the dwellers of this coastland will say, ‘See what has happened to our source of hope, those to whom we fled for help and
deliverance from the
king of Assyria! How then can we escape?’”
And they shall
hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons.
So they will
hang on him all the glory of his father’s house: the descendants and the offshoots—all the lesser vessels, from
bowls to every
kind of
jar.
He stretched out his hand over the sea, he
shook the
kingdoms: the LORD hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.
The LORD has stretched out His hand over the sea; He has made
kingdoms tremble. He has given a command that the strongholds of
Canaan be destroyed.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one
king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an
harlot.
At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years—the span of a
king’s life. But at the end of seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the
harlot:
And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her
hire, and shall commit
fornication with all the
kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.
And at the end of seventy years, the LORD will restore Tyre. Then she will return to
hire as a
prostitute and sell herself to all the
kingdoms on the face of the earth.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall
punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the
kings of the earth upon the earth.
In that day the LORD will
punish the host of heaven above and the
kings of the earth below.
When the boughs thereof are
withered, they shall be broken off: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will
shew them no favour.
When its limbs are dry, they are broken off. Women come and use them for
kindling; for this is a people without understanding. Therefore their Maker has no
compassion on them, and their
Creator shows them no favor.
For
Tophet is ordained of old;
yea, for the
king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of
brimstone,
doth kindle it.
For Topheth has long been prepared; it has been made ready for the
king. Its funeral
pyre is deep and wide, with
plenty of fire and wood. The breath of the LORD, like a
torrent of burning sulfur, sets it
ablaze.
Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.
Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule with justice.
Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off.
Your eyes will see the
King in His beauty and behold a land that stretches
afar.
For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our
lawgiver, the LORD is our
king; he will save us.
For the LORD is our Judge, the LORD is our
lawgiver, the LORD is our
King. It is He who will save us.
They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.
No nobles will be left to
proclaim a
king, and all her princes will come to nothing.
Now it came to pass in the
fourteenth year of
king Hezekiah, that
Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.
And
Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to
Hezekiah, Thus saith the great
king, the
king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
The
Rabshakeh said to them, “Tell
Hezekiah that this is what the great
king, the
king of Assyria, says: What is the basis of this confidence of yours?
Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt;
whereon if a man
lean, it will go into his hand, and
pierce it: so is Pharaoh
king of Egypt to all that trust in him.
Look now, you are trusting in Egypt, that
splintered reed of a staff that will
pierce the hand of
anyone who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh
king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
Now, therefore, make a
bargain with my master, the
king of Assyria. I will give you two thousand horses—if you can put riders on them!
Then
Rabshakeh stood, and
cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great
king, the
king of Assyria.
Then the
Rabshakeh stood and called out loudly in Hebrew: “Hear the words of the great
king, the
king of Assyria!
Thus saith the
king, Let not
Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.
This is what the
king says: Do not let
Hezekiah deceive you, for he cannot deliver you.
Neither let
Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the
king of Assyria.
Do not let
Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the LORD when he says, ‘The LORD will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the
king of Assyria.’
Hearken not to
Hezekiah: for thus saith the
king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own
cistern;
Do not
listen to
Hezekiah, for this is what the
king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me. Then every one of you will eat from his own vine and his own fig tree, and drink water from his own
cistern,
Beware lest
Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the
king of Assyria?
Do not let
Hezekiah mislead you when he says, ‘The LORD will deliver us.’ Has the god of any nation ever delivered his land from the hand of the
king of Assyria?
But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
But the people remained silent and did not answer a word, for
Hezekiah had commanded, “Do not answer him.”
And it came to pass, when
king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with
sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
On hearing this report,
King Hezekiah tore his clothes, put on
sackcloth, and entered the house of the LORD.
It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of
Rabshakeh, whom the
king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the
remnant that is left.
Perhaps the LORD your God will hear the words of the
Rabshakeh, whom his master the
king of Assyria has sent to
defy the living God, and He will
rebuke him for the words that the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the
remnant that still survives.”
So the servants of
king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
So the servants of
King Hezekiah went to Isaiah,
And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard,
wherewith the servants of the
king of Assyria have
blasphemed me.
who replied, “Tell your master that this is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid of the words you have heard, with which the servants of the
king of Assyria have
blasphemed Me.
When the
Rabshakeh heard that the
king of Assyria had left
Lachish, he withdrew and found the
king fighting against
Libnah.
And he heard say concerning Tirhakah
king of
Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to
Hezekiah, saying,
Thus shall ye speak to
Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest,
deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the
king of Assyria.
“Give this message to
Hezekiah king of Judah: ‘Do not let your God, in whom you trust,
deceive you by saying that Jerusalem will not be delivered into the hand of the
king of Assyria.
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?
Surely you have heard what the
kings of Assyria have done to all the other countries,
devoting them to destruction. Will you then be
spared?
Where is the
king of
Hamath, and the
king of Arphad, and the
king of the city of
Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?
O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.
“O LORD of Hosts, God of Israel, enthroned above the
cherubim, You alone are God over all the
kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.
Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,
Truly, O LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all these countries and their lands.
Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.
And now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto
Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against
Sennacherib king of Assyria:
Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to
Hezekiah: “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Because you have prayed to Me concerning
Sennacherib king of Assyria,
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the
king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an
arrow there nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.
So this is what the LORD says about the
king of Assyria: ‘He will not enter this city or shoot an
arrow into it. He will not come before it with a shield or build up a siege
ramp against it.
So
Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to
Nineveh and stayed there.
And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.
And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city.
The writing of
Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness:
This is a writing by
Hezekiah king of Judah after his illness and recovery:
At that time Merodach-baladan, the son of Baladan,
king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to
Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered.
At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan
king of Babylon sent letters and a gift to
Hezekiah, for he had heard about
Hezekiah’s illness and recovery.
Then came Isaiah the prophet unto
king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And
Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country unto me, even from Babylon.
Then the prophet Isaiah went to
King Hezekiah and asked, “Where did those men come from, and what did they say to you?” “They came to me from a distant land,”
Hezekiah replied, “from Babylon.”
And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt
beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the
king of Babylon.
And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, will be taken away to be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over
kings? he gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven
stubble to his bow.
Who has
aroused one from the east and called him to his feet in righteousness? He hands nations over to him and subdues
kings before him. He turns them to dust with his sword, to windblown
chaff with his bow.
Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.
“Present your case,” says the LORD. “Submit your arguments,” says the King of Jacob.
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame
kindle upon thee.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you go through the rivers, they will not
overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be
scorched; the flames will not set you
ablaze.
I am the LORD, your Holy One, the
creator of Israel, your
King.
I am the LORD, your Holy One, the
Creator of Israel, and your
King.”
Thus saith the LORD the
King of Israel, and his
redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Thus says the LORD, the
King and
Redeemer of Israel, the LORD of Hosts: “I am the first and I am the last, and there is no God but Me.
Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself;
yea, he
kindleth it, and baketh bread;
yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a
graven image, and falleth down
thereto.
It serves as fuel for man. He takes some of it to warm himself, and he
kindles a fire and bakes his bread; he even fashions it into a god and worships it; he makes an
idol and bows down to it.
Thus saith the LORD to his
anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have
holden, to
subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of
kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
This is what the LORD says to Cyrus His
anointed, whose right hand I have
grasped to
subdue nations before him, to disarm
kings, to open the doors before him, so that the gates will not be shut:
Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
“Sit in silence and go into darkness, O Daughter of
Chaldea. For you will no longer be called the queen of
kingdoms.
Thus saith the LORD, the
Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers,
Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.
Thus says the LORD, the
Redeemer and Holy One of Israel, to Him who was
despised and
abhorred by the nation, to the Servant of rulers: “
Kings will see You and rise, and princes will bow down, because of the LORD, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen You.”
And
kings shall be thy
nursing fathers, and their queens thy
nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and
lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be
ashamed that wait for me.
Kings will be your
foster fathers, and their queens your
nursing mothers. They will bow to you facedown and
lick the dust at your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD; those who hope in Me will never be put to shame.”
Behold, all ye that
kindle a fire, that compass
yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have
kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.
Behold, all you who
kindle a fire, who
array yourselves with firebrands, walk in the light of your fire and of the firebrands you have
lit! This is what you will receive from My hand: You will lie down in a place of
torment.
So shall he
sprinkle many nations; the
kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.
so He will
sprinkle many nations.
Kings will shut their mouths because of Him. For they will see what they have not been told, and they will understand what they have not heard.
In a little wrath I
hid my face from thee for a moment; but with
everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy
Redeemer.
For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
Though the mountains may be removed and the hills may be
shaken, My loving devotion will not depart from you, and My covenant of peace will not be broken,” says the LORD, who has
compassion on you.
You went to
Molech with oil and multiplied your perfumes. You have sent your envoys a great distance; you have descended even to
Sheol itself.
And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
Nations will come to your light, and
kings to the brightness of your
dawn.
And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their
kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I
smote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on thee.
Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. Although I struck you in anger, yet in favor I will show you mercy.
Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.
Your gates will always stand open; they will never be shut, day or night, so that the wealth of the nations may be brought into you, with their
kings being led in
procession.
For the nation and
kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish;
yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.
For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish; it will be utterly destroyed.
Thou shalt also
suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt
suck the breast of
kings: and thou shalt know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy
Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
You will drink the milk of nations and
nurse at the breasts of
royalty; you will know that I, the LORD, am your
Savior and your
Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.
Nations will see your righteousness, and all
kings your glory. You will be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will
bestow.
As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to
boil, to make thy name known to thine
adversaries, that the nations may
tremble at thy presence!
as fire
kindles the
brushwood and causes the water to
boil, to make Your name known to Your enemies, so that the nations will
tremble at Your presence!
Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my
footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?
This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is My throne, and earth is My
footstool. What
kind of house will you build for Me? Or where will My place of
repose be?
To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of
Josiah the son of Amon
king of Judah, in the
thirteenth year of his reign.
The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah in the
thirteenth year of the reign of
Josiah son of Amon
king of Judah,
and through the days of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah, until the fifth month of the
eleventh year of
Zedekiah son of
Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.
See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
See, I have appointed you
today over nations and
kingdoms to
uproot and
tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and plant.”
For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.
For I am about to
summon all the clans and
kingdoms of the north,” declares the LORD. “Their
kings will come and set up their thrones at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem. They will attack all her surrounding walls and all the other cities of Judah.
For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron
pillar, and
brasen walls against the whole land, against the
kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.
Now behold, this day I have made you like a fortified city, an iron
pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land—against the
kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land.
Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the
kindness of thy youth, the love of thine
espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.
“Go and
proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a
bride, how you followed Me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.
As the
thief is
ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel
ashamed; they, their
kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,
As the
thief is
ashamed when he is caught, so the house of Israel is disgraced. They, their
kings, their officials, their priests, and their prophets
The LORD said also unto me in the days of
Josiah the
king, Hast thou seen that which
backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the
harlot.
Now in the days of
King Josiah, the LORD said to me, “Have you seen what faithless Israel has done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every green tree to
prostitute herself there.
And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the
king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be
astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.
“In that day,” declares the LORD, “the
king and officials will lose their courage. The priests will
tremble in fear, and the prophets will be
astounded.”
The children gather wood, and the fathers
kindle the fire, and the women
knead their
dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may
provoke me to anger.
The sons gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women
knead the
dough to make cakes for the Queen of Heaven; they pour out drink offerings to other gods to
provoke Me to anger.
At that time, saith the LORD, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:
“At that time,” declares the LORD, “the bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of the officials, the bones of the priests, the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the people of Jerusalem will be removed from their graves.
