And the LORD
plagued Pharaoh and his house with great
plagues because of Sarai
Abram’s wife.
The LORD, however,
afflicted Pharaoh and his household with severe
plagues because of
Abram’s wife Sarai.
And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days’ journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with
pestilence, or with the sword.
“The God of the Hebrews has met with us,” they answered. “Please let us go on a three-day journey into the wilderness to sacrifice to the LORD our God, or He may strike us with plagues or with the sword.”
And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will
smite all thy borders with frogs:
But if you refuse to let them go, I will plague your whole country with frogs.
Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the
asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very
grievous murrain.
then the hand of the LORD will bring a severe
plague on your
livestock in the field—on your horses,
donkeys, camels, herds, and flocks.
For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
Otherwise, I will send all My plagues against you and your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth.
For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may
smite thee and thy people with
pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth.
For by this time I could have stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with a
plague to
wipe you off the earth.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will bring upon Pharaoh and Egypt one more plague. After that, he will allow you to leave this place. And when he lets you go, he will drive you out completely.
And the blood shall be to you for a
token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the
plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I
smite the land of Egypt.
The blood on the houses where you are staying will distinguish them; when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No plague will fall on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
When thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after their number, then shall they give every man a
ransom for his soul unto the LORD, when thou numberest them; that there be no
plague among them, when thou numberest them.
“When you take a census of the Israelites to number them, each man must pay the LORD a
ransom for his life when he is counted. Then no
plague will come upon them when they are numbered.
And the LORD
plagued the people, because they made the
calf, which Aaron made.
And the LORD sent a
plague on the people because of what they had done with the
calf that Aaron had made.
When a man shall have in the skin of his flesh a rising, a
scab, or a bright spot, and it be in the skin of his flesh like the
plague of
leprosy; then he shall be brought unto Aaron the priest, or unto one of his sons the priests:
“When someone has a swelling or
rash or bright spot on his skin that could become an
infectious skin disease, he must be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons who is a priest.
And the priest shall look on the
plague in the skin of the flesh: and when the hair in the
plague is turned white, and the
plague in sight be deeper than the skin of his flesh, it is a
plague of
leprosy: and the priest shall look on him, and
pronounce him unclean.
The priest is to examine the
infection on his skin, and if the hair in the
infection has turned white and the
sore appears to be deeper than the skin, it is a skin disease. After the priest examines him, he must
pronounce him unclean.
If the bright spot be white in the skin of his flesh, and in sight be not deeper than the skin, and the hair thereof be not turned white; then the priest shall shut up him that hath the plague seven days:
If, however, the spot on his skin is white and does not appear to be deeper than the skin, and the hair in it has not turned white, the priest shall
isolate the
infected person for seven days.
And the priest shall look on him the seventh day: and, behold, if the plague in his sight be at a stay, and the plague spread not in the skin; then the priest shall shut him up seven days more:
On the seventh day the priest is to reexamine him, and if he sees that the
infection is unchanged and has not spread on the skin, the priest must
isolate him for another seven days.
And the priest shall look on him again the seventh day: and, behold, if the
plague be somewhat dark, and the
plague spread not in the skin, the priest shall
pronounce him clean: it is but a
scab: and he shall wash his clothes, and be clean.
The priest will examine him again on the seventh day, and if the
sore has
faded and has not spread on the skin, the priest shall
pronounce him clean; it is a
rash. The person must wash his clothes and be clean.
When the
plague of
leprosy is in a man, then he shall be brought unto the priest;
When
anyone develops a skin disease, he must be brought to the priest.
And if a
leprosy break out abroad in the skin, and the
leprosy cover all the skin of him that hath the
plague from his head even to his foot,
wheresoever the priest looketh;
But if the skin disease breaks out all over his skin so that it covers all the skin of the
infected person from head to foot, as far as the priest can see,
Then the priest shall consider: and, behold, if the
leprosy have covered all his flesh, he shall
pronounce him clean that hath the
plague: it is all turned white: he is clean.
the priest shall examine him, and if the disease has covered his entire body, he is to
pronounce the
infected person clean. Since it has all turned white, he is clean.
And the priest shall see him: and, behold, if the
plague be turned into white; then the priest shall
pronounce him clean that hath the
plague: he is clean.
The priest will reexamine him, and if the
infection has turned white, the priest is to
pronounce the
infected person clean; then he is clean.
And if, when the priest
seeth it, behold, it be in sight lower than the skin, and the hair thereof be turned white; the priest shall
pronounce him unclean: it is a
plague of
leprosy broken out of the
boil.
The priest shall examine it, and if it appears to be beneath the skin and the hair in it has turned white, the priest shall
pronounce him unclean; it is a diseased
infection that has broken out in the
boil.
And if it spread much abroad in the skin, then the priest shall
pronounce him unclean: it is a
plague.
If it spreads any further on the skin, the priest must
pronounce him unclean; it is an
infection.
Then the priest shall look upon it: and, behold, if the hair in the bright spot be turned white, and it be in sight deeper than the skin; it is a
leprosy broken out of the burning: wherefore the priest shall
pronounce him unclean: it is the
plague of
leprosy.
the priest must examine it. If the hair in the spot has turned white and the spot appears to be deeper than the skin, it is a disease that has broken out in the burn. The priest must
pronounce him unclean; it is a diseased
infection.
And the priest shall look upon him the seventh day: and if it be spread much abroad in the skin, then the priest shall
pronounce him unclean: it is the
plague of
leprosy.
On the seventh day the priest is to reexamine him, and if it has spread further on the skin, the priest must
pronounce him unclean; it is a diseased
infection.
If a man or woman have a
plague upon the head or the
beard;
Then the priest shall see the
plague: and, behold, if it be in sight deeper than the skin; and there be in it a yellow thin hair; then the priest shall
pronounce him unclean: it is a dry
scall, even a
leprosy upon the head or
beard.
the priest shall examine the
infection, and if it appears to be deeper than the skin and the hair in it is yellow and thin, the priest must
pronounce him unclean; it is a
scaly outbreak, an
infectious disease of the head or
chin.
And if the priest look on the
plague of the
scall, and, behold, it be not in sight deeper than the skin, and that there is no black hair in it; then the priest shall shut up him that hath the
plague of the
scall seven days:
But if the priest examines the
scaly infection and it does not appear to be deeper than the skin, and there is no black hair in it, the priest shall
isolate the
infected person for seven days.
And in the seventh day the priest shall look on the
plague: and, behold, if the
scall spread not, and there be in it no yellow hair, and the
scall be not in sight deeper than the skin;
On the seventh day the priest is to reexamine the
infection, and if the
scaly outbreak has not spread and there is no yellow hair in it, and it does not appear to be deeper than the skin,
He is a
leprous man, he is unclean: the priest shall
pronounce him utterly unclean; his
plague is in his head.
the man is diseased; he is unclean. The priest must
pronounce him unclean because of the
infection on his head.
And the
leper in whom the
plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper
lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean.
A diseased person must wear
torn clothes and let his hair
hang loose, and he must cover his mouth and cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean!’
All the days wherein the
plague shall be in him he shall be
defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his
habitation be.
As long as he has the
infection, he remains unclean. He must live alone in a place outside the camp.
The garment also that the
plague of
leprosy is in, whether it be a woollen garment, or a linen garment;
And if the
plague be
greenish or reddish in the garment, or in the skin, either in the
warp, or in the
woof, or in any thing of skin; it is a
plague of
leprosy, and shall be shewed unto the priest:
And the priest shall look upon the plague, and shut up it that hath the plague seven days:
And he shall look on the
plague on the seventh day: if the
plague be spread in the garment, either in the
warp, or in the
woof, or in a skin, or in any work that is made of skin; the
plague is a
fretting leprosy; it is unclean.
On the seventh day the priest shall reexamine it, and if the
mildew has spread in the
fabric,
weave,
knit, or leather, then regardless of how it is used, it is a
harmful mildew; the article is unclean.
He shall therefore burn that garment, whether
warp or
woof, in woollen or in linen, or any thing of skin, wherein the
plague is: for it is a
fretting leprosy; it shall be burnt in the fire.
And if the priest shall look, and, behold, the
plague be not spread in the garment, either in the
warp, or in the
woof, or in any thing of skin;
But when the priest reexamines it, if the
mildew has not spread in the
fabric,
weave,
knit, or leather article,
Then the priest shall command that they wash the thing wherein the plague is, and he shall shut it up seven days more:
the priest is to order the
contaminated article to be washed and isolated for another seven days.
And the priest shall look on the
plague, after that it is washed: and, behold, if the
plague have not changed his colour, and the
plague be not spread; it is unclean; thou shalt burn it in the fire; it is
fret inward, whether it be bare within or without.
After it has been washed, the priest is to reexamine it, and if the
mildewed article has not changed in appearance, it is unclean. Even though the
mildew has not spread, you must burn it, whether the
rot is on the front or back.
And if the priest look, and, behold, the
plague be somewhat dark after the washing of it; then he shall
rend it out of the garment, or out of the skin, or out of the
warp, or out of the
woof:
And if it appear still in the garment, either in the
warp, or in the
woof, or in any thing of skin; it is a spreading
plague: thou shalt burn that wherein the
plague is with fire.
And the garment, either
warp, or
woof, or
whatsoever thing of skin it be, which thou shalt wash, if the
plague be departed from them, then it shall be washed the second time, and shall be clean.
If the
mildew disappears from the
fabric,
weave, or
knit, or any leather article after washing, then it is to be washed again, and it will be clean.
This is the law of the
plague of
leprosy in a garment of woollen or linen, either in the
warp, or
woof, or any thing of skins, to
pronounce it clean, or to
pronounce it unclean.
And the priest shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look, and, behold, if the
plague of
leprosy be
healed in the
leper;
The priest is to go outside the camp to examine him, and if the skin disease of the
afflicted person has
healed,
This is the law of him in whom is the
plague of
leprosy, whose hand is not able to get that which pertaineth to his
cleansing.
This is the law for someone who has a skin disease and cannot afford the cost of his
cleansing.”
When ye be come into the land of
Canaan, which I give to you for a possession, and I put the
plague of
leprosy in a house of the land of your possession;
“When you enter the land of
Canaan, which I am giving you as your possession, and I put a
contamination of
mildew into a house in that land,
And he that owneth the house shall come and tell the priest, saying, It seemeth to me there is as it were a plague in the house:
the owner of the house shall come and tell the priest, ‘Something like
mildew has appeared in my house.’
Then the priest shall command that they empty the house, before the priest go into it to see the plague, that all that is in the house be not made unclean: and afterward the priest shall go in to see the house:
The priest must order that the house be cleared before he enters it to examine the
mildew, so that nothing in the house will become unclean. After this, the priest shall go in to
inspect the house.
And he shall look on the
plague, and, behold, if the
plague be in the walls of the house with hollow strakes,
greenish or reddish, which in sight are lower than the wall;
He is to examine the house, and if the
mildew on the walls consists of green or red depressions that appear to be beneath the surface of the wall,
And the priest shall come again the seventh day, and shall look: and, behold, if the plague be spread in the walls of the house;
On the seventh day the priest is to return and
inspect the house. If the
mildew has spread on the walls,
Then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which the plague is, and they shall cast them into an unclean place without the city:
he must order that the
contaminated stones be pulled out and thrown into an unclean place outside the city.
And if the
plague come again, and break out in the house, after that he hath taken away the stones, and after he hath
scraped the house, and after it is plaistered;
If the
mildew reappears in the house after the stones have been
torn out and the house has been
scraped and replastered,
Then the priest shall come and look, and, behold, if the
plague be spread in the house, it is a
fretting leprosy in the house: it is unclean.
the priest must come and
inspect it. If the
mildew has spread in the house, it is a destructive
mildew; the house is unclean.
And if the priest shall come in, and look upon it, and, behold, the
plague hath not spread in the house, after the house was plaistered: then the priest shall
pronounce the house clean, because the
plague is
healed.
If, however, the priest comes and inspects it, and the
mildew has not spread after the house has been replastered, he shall
pronounce the house clean, because the
mildew is gone.
This is the law for all manner of
plague of
leprosy, and
scall,
And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not
hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more
plagues upon you according to your sins.
If you walk in hostility toward Me and refuse to obey Me, I will multiply your plagues seven times, according to your sins.
And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall
avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the
pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
And I will bring a sword against you to
execute the
vengeance of the covenant. Though you withdraw into your cities, I will send a
plague among you, and you will be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an
atonement for the children of Israel: that there be no
plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come
nigh unto the sanctuary.
And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons from among the Israelites, to perform the service for the Israelites at the Tent of Meeting and to make
atonement on their behalf, so that no
plague will come against the Israelites when they approach the sanctuary.”
And while the flesh was yet between their teeth,
ere it was
chewed, the wrath of the LORD was
kindled against the people, and the LORD
smote the people with a very great
plague.
But while the meat was still between their teeth, before it was
chewed, the anger of the LORD burned against the people, and the LORD struck them with a severe
plague.
I will strike them with a plague and destroy them—and I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they are.”
Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
those men who had brought out the bad report about the land—were struck down by a plague before the LORD.
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a
censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an
atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the
plague is begun.
Moses said to Aaron, “Take your
censer, place fire from the altar in it, and add incense. Go quickly to the congregation and make
atonement for them, because wrath has come out from the LORD; the
plague has begun.”
And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the
plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an
atonement for the people.
So Aaron took the
censer as Moses had ordered and ran into the midst of the assembly. And seeing that the
plague had begun among the people, he offered the incense and made
atonement for the people.
And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
He stood between the living and the dead, and the
plague was
halted.
Now they that died in the
plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of
Korah.
But those who died from the
plague numbered 14,700, in addition to those who had died on account of
Korah.
And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.
Then Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, since the
plague had been
halted.
And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her
belly. So the
plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
followed the
Israelite into his tent, and drove the
spear through both of them—through the
Israelite and on through the
belly of the woman. So the
plague against the Israelites was
halted,
And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.
For they
vex you with their wiles,
wherewith they have
beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of
Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the
plague for Peor’s sake.
For they
assailed you
deceitfully when they
seduced you in the matter of Peor and their sister Cozbi, the daughter of the Midianite leader, the woman who was killed on the day the
plague came because of Peor.”
And it came to pass after the
plague, that the LORD spake unto Moses and unto
Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, saying,
After the
plague had ended, the LORD said to Moses and
Eleazar son of Aaron the priest,
Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of
Balaam, to commit
trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a
plague among the congregation of the LORD.
“Look, these women caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of
Balaam, to turn unfaithfully against the LORD at Peor, so that the
plague struck the congregation of the LORD.
Take
heed in the
plague of
leprosy, that thou observe
diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do.
The LORD shall make the
pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land,
whither thou goest to possess it.
The LORD will make the
plague cling to you until He has
exterminated you from the land that you are entering to possess.
Then the LORD will make thy
plagues wonderful, and the
plagues of thy seed, even great
plagues, and of long continuance, and
sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.
He will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary disasters, severe and lasting
plagues, and terrible and
chronic sicknesses.
Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
The LORD will also bring upon you every sickness and plague not recorded in this Book of the Law, until you are destroyed.
So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;
Then the generation to come—your sons who follow you and the foreigner who comes from a distant land—will see the plagues of the land and the sicknesses the LORD has inflicted on it.
They shall be burnt with hunger, and
devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.
They will be wasted from hunger and
ravaged by
pestilence and bitter
plague; I will send the fangs of wild beasts against them, with the
venom of vipers that
slither in the dust.
Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not
cleansed until this day, although there was a
plague in the congregation of the LORD,
Was not the sin of Peor enough for us, from which we have not
cleansed ourselves to this day? It even brought a
plague upon the congregation of the LORD.
I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.
Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I
afflicted the Egyptians by what I did there, and afterward I brought you out.
Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that
smote the Egyptians with all the
plagues in the wilderness.
Woe to us! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all kinds of
plagues in the wilderness.
Then said they, What shall be the
trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden
emerods, and five golden
mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one
plague was on you all, and on your lords.
“What guilt offering should we send back to Him?” asked the Philistines. “Five gold tumors and five gold rats,” they said, “according to the number of rulers of the Philistines, since the same plague has struck both you and your rulers.
So
Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or
wilt thou
flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days’
pestilence in thy land? now
advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
So
Gad went and said to David, “Do you choose to
endure three years of famine in your land, three months of
fleeing the pursuit of your enemies, or three days of
plague upon your land? Now then, think it over and decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
So the LORD sent a
pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba seventy thousand men.
So the LORD sent a
plague upon Israel from that morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand of the people from
Dan to
Beersheba died.
And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To
buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the
plague may be stayed from the people.
“Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” Araunah said. “To
buy your
threshing floor,” David replied, “that I may build an altar to the LORD, so that the
plague upon the people may be
halted.”
And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
And there he built an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Then the LORD answered the prayers on behalf of the land, and the
plague upon Israel was
halted.
When famine or
plague comes upon the land, or
blight or
mildew or locusts or grasshoppers, or when their enemy besieges them in their cities, whatever
plague or sickness may come,
What prayer and
supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the
plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house:
then may whatever prayer or petition Your people Israel make—each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the
pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore
advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
between three years of famine, three months of being swept away before your enemies and overtaken by their swords, or three days of the sword of the LORD—days of
plague upon the land, with the angel of the LORD
ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
So the LORD sent
pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
So the LORD sent a plague upon Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell dead.
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have
sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be
plagued.
And David said to God, “Was it not I who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? O LORD my God, please let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house, but do not let this
plague remain upon Your people.”
Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.
Then David said to Ornan, “Grant me the site of this
threshing floor, that I may build an altar to the LORD. Sell it to me for the full price, so that the
plague upon the people may be
halted.”
When famine or
plague comes upon the land, or
blight or
mildew or locusts or grasshoppers, or when their enemies
besiege them in their cities, whatever
plague or sickness may come,
If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to
devour the land, or if I send
pestilence among my people;
If I close the sky so there is no rain, or if I command the
locust to
devour the land, or if I send a
plague among My people,
If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or
pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our
affliction, then thou
wilt hear and help.
‘If
disaster comes upon us—whether sword or judgment,
plague or famine—we will stand before this temple and before You, for Your Name is in this temple. We will cry out to You in our distress, and You will hear us and save us.’
Behold, with a great
plague will the LORD
smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:
So behold, the LORD is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives, and all your possessions with a serious blow.
Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not
weep.
His survivors will be buried by the
plague, and their widows will not
weep for them.
They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.
They are free of the burdens others carry; they are not
afflicted like other men.
For all the day long have I been
plagued, and
chastened every morning.
For I am
afflicted all day long and punished every morning.
He made a way to his anger; he
spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the
pestilence;
He cleared a path for His anger; He did not
spare them from death but delivered their lives to the
plague.
And I will beat down his foes before his face, and
plague them that
hate him.
I will
crush his foes before him and strike down those who
hate him.
Surely He will deliver you from the
snare of the fowler, and from the deadly
plague.
