And she again bare his brother
Abel. And
Abel was a keeper of
sheep, but
Cain was a tiller of the ground.
Later she gave birth to
Cain’s brother
Abel. Now
Abel was a keeper of
sheep, while
Cain was a tiller of the soil.
And he
entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had
sheep, and oxen, and he
asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she
asses, and camels.
He treated
Abram well on her account, and
Abram acquired
sheep and cattle, male and female
donkeys, menservants and maidservants, and camels.
And
Abimelech took
sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him
Sarah his wife.
So
Abimelech brought
sheep and cattle, menservants and maidservants, and he gave them to Abraham and restored his wife
Sarah to him.
And Abraham took
sheep and oxen, and gave them unto
Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.
So Abraham brought
sheep and cattle and gave them to
Abimelech, and the two men made a covenant.
And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and
asses.
“The LORD has greatly blessed my master, and he has become rich. He has given him
sheep and cattle, silver and gold, menservants and maidservants, camels and
donkeys.
And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well’s mouth.
He looked and saw a well in the field, and near it lay three flocks of sheep, because the sheep were watered from this well. And a large stone covered the mouth of the well.
And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well’s mouth in his place.
When all the flocks had been gathered there, the
shepherds would roll away the stone from the mouth of the well and water the
sheep. Then they would return the stone to its place over the mouth of the well.
And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold,
Rachel his daughter cometh with the
sheep.
“Is he well?” Jacob inquired. “
Yes,” they answered, “and here comes his daughter
Rachel with his
sheep.”
And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.
“Look,” said Jacob, “it is still broad
daylight; it is not yet time to gather the
livestock. Water the
sheep and take them back to pasture.”
And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well’s mouth; then we water the sheep.
But they replied, “We cannot, until all the flocks have been gathered and the stone has been rolled away from the mouth of the well. Then we will water the sheep.”
And while he yet spake with them,
Rachel came with her father’s
sheep: for she kept them.
While he was still speaking with them,
Rachel arrived with her father’s
sheep, for she was a
shepherdess.
And it came to pass, when Jacob saw
Rachel the daughter of
Laban his mother’s brother, and the
sheep of
Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of
Laban his mother’s brother.
As soon as Jacob saw
Rachel, the daughter of his mother’s brother
Laban, with
Laban’s
sheep, he went up and rolled the stone away from the mouth of the well and watered his uncle’s
sheep.
I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the
speckled and
spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the
sheep, and the
spotted and
speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my
hire.
Let me go through all your flocks
today and remove from them every
speckled or
spotted sheep, every dark-colored lamb, and every
spotted or
speckled goat. These will be my wages.
So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my
hire before thy face: every one that is not
speckled and
spotted among the goats, and brown among the
sheep, that shall be counted
stolen with me.
So my
honesty will
testify for me when you come to check on my wages in the future. If I have any goats that are not
speckled or
spotted, or any lambs that are not dark-colored, they will be considered
stolen.”
And he removed that day the he goats that were
ringstraked and
spotted, and all the she goats that were
speckled and
spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the
sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.
That very day
Laban removed all the
streaked or
spotted male goats and every
speckled or
spotted female goat—every one that had any white on it—and every dark-colored lamb, and he placed them under the care of his sons.
And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the
ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of
Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto
Laban’s cattle.
Jacob set apart the young, but made the rest face the
streaked dark-colored
sheep in
Laban’s flocks. Then he set his own stock apart and did not put them with
Laban’s animals.
Now while
Laban was out shearing his
sheep,
Rachel stole her father’s household idols.
This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.
I have been with you for twenty years now. Your sheep and goats have not miscarried, nor have I eaten the rams of your flock.
And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.
But Jacob replied, “My lord knows that the children are
frail, and I must care for
sheep and cattle that are
nursing their young. If they are driven hard for even a day, all the animals will die.
They took their
sheep, and their oxen, and their
asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field,
They took their flocks and herds and
donkeys, and everything else in the city or in the field.
And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah’s wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
After a long time Judah’s wife, the daughter of Shua, died. When Judah had finished
mourning, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite went up to his
sheepshearers at Timnah.
And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to
shear his
sheep.
When Tamar was told, “Your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to
shear his
sheep,”
Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the
asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the
sheep: there shall be a very
grievous murrain.
then the hand of the LORD will bring a severe plague on your
livestock in the field—on your horses,
donkeys, camels, herds, and flocks.
Your lamb shall be without
blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the
sheep, or from the goats:
Your lamb must be an
unblemished year-old male, and you may take it from the
sheep or the goats.
An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice
thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy
sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will
bless thee.
You are to make for Me an altar of earth, and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and peace offerings, your
sheep and goats and cattle. In every place where I cause My name to be remembered, I will come to you and
bless you.
If a man shall
steal an ox, or a
sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four
sheep for a
sheep.
“If a man steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters or sells it, he must repay five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep.
If the
theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or
ass, or
sheep; he shall restore double.
If what was
stolen is actually found alive in his possession—whether ox or
donkey or
sheep—he must pay back double.
For all manner of
trespass, whether it be for ox, for
ass, for
sheep, for
raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall
condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.
In all cases of
illegal possession of an ox, a
donkey, a
sheep, a garment, or any lost
item that someone claims, ‘This is mine,’ both parties shall bring their cases before the judges. The one whom the judges find guilty must pay back double to his
neighbor.
If a man deliver unto his neighbour an
ass, or an ox, or a
sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be
hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it:
If a man gives a
donkey, an ox, a
sheep, or any other animal to be cared for by his
neighbor, but it dies or is injured or
stolen while no one is watching,
Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy
sheep: seven days it shall be with his
dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.
You shall do likewise with your cattle and your sheep. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but on the eighth day you are to give them to Me.
All that openeth the
matrix is mine; and every
firstling among thy cattle, whether ox or
sheep, that is male.
The first offspring of every
womb belongs to Me, including all the
firstborn males among your
livestock, whether cattle or
sheep.
And they did beat the gold into thin plates, and cut it into wires, to work it in the blue, and in the purple, and in the scarlet, and in the fine linen, with
cunning work.
They hammered out thin
sheets of gold and cut threads from them to
interweave with the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine linen—the work of a skilled
craftsman.
And if his offering be of the flocks, namely, of the
sheep, or of the goats, for a burnt sacrifice; he shall bring it a male without
blemish.
If, however, one’s offering is a burnt offering from the flock—from the
sheep or goats—he is to present an
unblemished male.
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Ye shall eat no manner of fat, of ox, or of sheep, or of goat.
“Speak to the Israelites and say, ‘You are not to eat any of the fat of an ox, a sheep, or a goat.
Ye shall offer at your own will a male without
blemish, of the
beeves, of the
sheep, or of the goats.
must offer an
unblemished male from the cattle,
sheep, or goats in order for it to be accepted on your behalf.
When a man presents a peace offering to the LORD from the
herd or flock to
fulfill a
vow or as a
freewill offering, it must be without
blemish or defect to be acceptable.
Either a
bullock or a lamb that hath any thing
superfluous or lacking in his parts, that mayest thou offer for a
freewill offering; but for a
vow it shall not be accepted.
When a
bullock, or a
sheep, or a goat, is brought forth, then it shall be seven days under the
dam; and from the eighth day and
thenceforth it shall be accepted for an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
“When an ox, a sheep, or a goat is born, it must remain with its mother for seven days. From the eighth day on, it will be acceptable as an offering made by fire to the LORD.
And whether it be cow or
ewe, ye shall not kill it and her young both in one day.
But you must not slaughter an ox or a sheep on the same day as its young.
Only the
firstling of the beasts, which should be the LORD’S
firstling, no man shall
sanctify it; whether it be ox, or
sheep: it is the LORD’S.
The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are
hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.
As for the censers of those who
sinned at the cost of their own lives, hammer them into
sheets to overlay the altar, for these were presented before the LORD, and so have become holy. They will serve as a sign to the Israelites.”
But the
firstling of a cow, or the
firstling of a
sheep, or the
firstling of a goat, thou shalt not
redeem; they are holy: thou shalt
sprinkle their blood upon the altar, and shalt burn their fat for an offering made by fire, for a sweet savour unto the LORD.
But you must not
redeem the
firstborn of an ox, a
sheep, or a goat; they are holy. You are to
sprinkle their blood on the altar and burn their fat as an offering made by fire, a pleasing
aroma to the LORD.
And Balak offered oxen and
sheep, and sent to
Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.
Balak sacrificed cattle and
sheep, and he gave portions to
Balaam and the princes who were with him.
Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as
sheep which have no
shepherd.
who will go out and come in before them, and who will lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of the LORD will not be like
sheep without a
shepherd.”
And
levy a tribute unto the LORD of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the
beeves, and of the
asses, and of the
sheep:
Set aside a tribute for the LORD from what belongs to the soldiers who went into battle: one out of every five hundred, whether persons, cattle,
donkeys, or
sheep.
And of the children of Israel’s half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the
beeves, of the
asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.
From the Israelites’ half, take one out of every fifty, whether persons, cattle,
donkeys,
sheep, or other animals, and give them to the Levites who keep charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.”
And the
booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand
sheep,
and this
plunder remained from the spoils the soldiers had taken: 675,000
sheep,
And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep:
This was the half portion for those who had gone to war:
And the LORD’S tribute of the
sheep was six hundred and
threescore and fifteen.
337,500 sheep, including a tribute to the LORD of 675,
(Now the half that
pertained unto the congregation was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred
sheep,
this half belonged to the congregation: 337,500 sheep,
And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:
Then the Gadites and Reubenites approached Moses and said, “We want to build
sheepfolds here for our
livestock and cities for our little ones.
Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.
Build cities for your little ones and folds for your flocks, but do what you have promised.”
And Beth-nimrah, and Beth-
haran,
fenced cities: and folds for
sheep.
Beth-nimrah, and Beth-
haran as fortified cities, and they built folds for their flocks.
And he will love thee, and
bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also
bless the fruit of thy
womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy
kine, and the flocks of thy
sheep, in the land which he
sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
He will love you and
bless you and multiply you. He will
bless the fruit of your
womb and the produce of your land—your grain, new wine, and oil, the young of your herds and the lambs of your flocks—in the land that He
swore to your fathers to give you.
These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,
These are the animals that you may eat: The ox, the sheep, the goat,
And thou shalt
bestow that money for
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for
sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for
whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt
rejoice, thou, and thine household,
Then you may
spend the money on anything you desire: cattle,
sheep, wine, strong drink, or anything you wish. You are to feast there in the presence of the LORD your God and
rejoice with your household.
You must set apart to the LORD your God every
firstborn male produced by your herds and flocks. You are not to put the
firstborn of your oxen to work, nor are you to
shear the
firstborn of your flock.
Thou shalt not sacrifice unto the LORD thy God any
bullock, or
sheep, wherein is
blemish, or any evilfavouredness: for that is an
abomination unto the LORD thy God.
You shall not sacrifice to the LORD your God an ox or a
sheep with any defect or serious
flaw, for that is
detestable to the LORD your God.
And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or
sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the
maw.
This shall be the priests’ share from the people who offer a sacrifice, whether a bull or a sheep: the priests are to be given the shoulder, the jowls, and the stomach.
The firstfruit also of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the
fleece of thy
sheep, shalt thou give him.
You are to give them the firstfruits of your grain, new wine, and oil, and the first wool
sheared from your flock.
Thou shalt not see the brother’s ox or his
sheep go
astray, and hide
thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother.
If you see your brother’s ox or
sheep straying, you must not
ignore it; be sure to return it to your brother.
Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy
kine, and the flocks of thy
sheep.
The fruit of your
womb will be blessed, as well as the produce of your land and the offspring of your
livestock— the
calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.
Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy
kine, and the flocks of thy
sheep.
The fruit of your
womb will be
cursed, as well as the produce of your land, the
calves of your herds, and the lambs of your flocks.
Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine
ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy
sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to
rescue them.
Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat any of it. Your
donkey will be taken away and not returned to you. Your flock will be given to your enemies, and no one will save you.
And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy land, until thou be destroyed: which also shall not leave thee either corn, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy
kine, or flocks of thy
sheep, until he have destroyed thee.
They will eat the offspring of your
livestock and the produce of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain or new wine or oil, no
calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks, until they have caused you to perish.
Butter of
kine, and milk of
sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of
Bashan, and goats, with the fat of
kidneys of wheat; and thou
didst drink the pure blood of the
grape.
with curds from the
herd and milk from the flock, with the fat of lambs, with rams from
Bashan, and goats, with the choicest grains of wheat. From the juice of the finest grapes you
drank the wine.
And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and
sheep, and
ass, with the edge of the sword.
At the edge of the sword they devoted to destruction everything in the city—man and woman, young and old, oxen,
sheep, and
donkeys.
And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took
Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the
wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his
asses, and his
sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of
Achor.
Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took
Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the
cloak, the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his oxen and
donkeys and
sheep, his tent, and everything else he owned, and brought them to the Valley of
Achor.
Why abodest thou among the
sheepfolds, to hear the bleatings of the flocks? For the divisions of
Reuben there were great searchings of heart.
Why did you sit among the
sheepfolds to hear the
whistling for the flocks? In the clans of
Reuben there was great indecision.
And they
encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto
Gaza, and left no
sustenance for Israel, neither
sheep, nor ox, nor
ass.
encamping against them as far as
Gaza and destroying the produce of the land. They left Israel with no
sustenance, neither
sheep nor oxen nor
donkeys.
And
Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a
riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty
sheets and thirty change of garments:
“Let me tell you a
riddle,”
Samson said to them. “If you can
solve it for me within the seven days of the feast, I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes.
But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye give me thirty
sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy
riddle, that we may hear it.
But if you cannot
solve it, you must give me thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes.” “Tell us your
riddle,” they replied. “Let us hear it.”
He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.
He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you
yourselves will become his slaves.
And the people
flew upon the
spoil, and took
sheep, and oxen, and
calves, and
slew them on the ground: and the people did eat them with the blood.
So they
rushed greedily to the
plunder, taking
sheep, cattle, and
calves. They slaughtered them on the ground and
ate meat with the blood still in it.
And Saul said,
Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me
hither every man his ox, and every man his
sheep, and
slay them here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and
slew them there.
Then he said, “Go among the troops and tell them, ‘Each man must bring me his ox or his
sheep, slaughter them in this place, and then eat. Do not sin against the LORD by eating meat with the blood still in it.’” So that night
everyone brought his ox and slaughtered it there.
Now go and
smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and
spare them not; but
slay both man and woman, infant and
suckling, ox and
sheep,
camel and
ass.
Now go and attack the
Amalekites and
devote to destruction all that belongs to them. Do not
spare them, but put to death men and women, children and infants, oxen and
sheep, camels and
donkeys.’”
But Saul and the people
spared Agag, and the best of the
sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was
vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
Saul and his troops
spared Agag, along with the best of the
sheep and cattle, the fat
calves and lambs, and the best of everything else. They were unwilling to destroy them, but they devoted to destruction all that was
despised and worthless.
And Samuel said, What meaneth then this
bleating of the
sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?
But Samuel replied, “Then what is this
bleating of
sheep and lowing of cattle that I hear?”
And Saul said, They have brought them from the
Amalekites: for the people
spared the best of the
sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.
Saul answered, “The troops brought them from the
Amalekites; they
spared the best
sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the LORD your God, but the rest we devoted to destruction.”
But the people took of the
spoil,
sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in
Gilgal.
The troops took
sheep and cattle from the
plunder, the best of the things devoted to destruction, in order to sacrifice them to the LORD your God at
Gilgal.”
And Samuel said unto
Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the
sheep. And Samuel said unto
Jesse, Send and
fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come
hither.
And Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,”
Jesse replied, “but he is tending the
sheep.” “Send for him,” Samuel replied. “For we will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”
Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto
Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the
sheep.
So Saul sent messengers to
Jesse and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the
sheep.”
But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father’s
sheep at
Bethlehem.
but David went back and forth from Saul to tend his father’s
sheep in
Bethlehem.
And David rose up early in the morning, and left the
sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as
Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the
trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and
shouted for the battle.
So David got up early in the morning, left the flock with a keeper, loaded up, and set out as
Jesse had
instructed him. He reached the camp as the army was marching out to its position and
shouting the battle cry.
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was
kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down
hither? and with whom hast thou left those few
sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the
naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
Now when David’s oldest brother Eliab heard him speaking to the men, his anger burned against David. “Why have you come down here?” he asked. “And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and wickedness of heart—you have come down to see the battle!”
And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
David replied, “Your servant has been tending his father’s sheep, and whenever a lion or a bear came and carried off a lamb from the flock,
And
Nob, the city of the priests,
smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and
asses, and
sheep, with the edge of the sword.
He also put to the sword
Nob, the city of the priests, with its men and women, children and infants, oxen,
donkeys, and
sheep.
And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave.
Soon Saul came to the
sheepfolds along the road, where there was a cave, and he went in to
relieve himself. And David and his men were hiding in the recesses of the cave.
And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in
Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand
sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his
sheep in
Carmel.
Now there was a man in Maon whose business was in
Carmel. He was a very wealthy man with a thousand goats and three thousand
sheep, which he was shearing in
Carmel.
And David heard in the wilderness that Nabal did
shear his
sheep.
While David was in the wilderness, he heard that Nabal was shearing sheep.
They were a wall unto us both by night and day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.
They were a wall around us, both day and night, the whole time we were
herding our
sheep near them.
Then
Abigail made
haste, and took two hundred
loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five
sheep ready dressed, and five measures of
parched corn, and an hundred clusters of
raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on
asses.
And David
smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the
sheep, and the oxen, and the
asses, and the camels, and the
apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.
Whenever David attacked a territory, he did not leave a man or woman alive, but he took the flocks and herds, the
donkeys, camels, and clothing. Then he would return to Achish,
Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the
sheepcote, from following the
sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:
Now then, you are to tell My servant David that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be the ruler over My people Israel.
The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:
The rich man had a great number of sheep and cattle,
And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he
spared to take of his own flock and of his own
herd, to dress for the
wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
Now a traveler came to the rich man, who
refrained from taking one of his own
sheep or cattle to prepare for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for his
guest.”
And it came to pass after two full years, that
Absalom had
sheepshearers in
Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and

Absalom’s
sheepshearers were at
Baal-hazor near Ephraim, he invited all the sons of the king.

sheepshearers; let the king, I

And he went to the king and said, “Your servant has just
hired shearers. Will the king and his servants please come with me?”
