And when the devil was cast out, the
dumb spake: and the multitudes
marvelled,
saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
And when the
demon had been driven out, the man began to speak. The crowds were
amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!”
These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them,
saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the
Samaritans enter ye not:
These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go
onto the road of the Gentiles or enter any town of the
Samaritans.
And as ye go,
preach,
saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
As you go,
preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’
Verily I
say unto you, It shall be more
tolerable for the land of
Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for
Sodom and
Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.
But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
But when they hand you over, do not
worry about how to
respond or what to
say. In that hour you will be given what to
say.
But when they
persecute you in this city,
flee ye into another: for
verily I
say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
When they
persecute you in one town,
flee to the next. Truly I tell you, you will not reach all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
And
whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple,
verily I
say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
And if
anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”
And as they departed, Jesus began to
say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed
shaken with the wind?
As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed
swaying in the wind?
But what went ye out for to see? A prophet?
yea, I
say unto you, and more than a prophet.
What then did you go out to see? A prophet?
Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
Verily I
say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet even the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
And
saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have
mourned unto you, and ye have not
lamented.
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they
say, ‘He has a
demon!’
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they
say, Behold a man
gluttonous, and a
winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they
say, ‘Look at this
glutton and
drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is
vindicated by her actions.”
But I
say unto you, It shall be more
tolerable for Tyre and
Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and
Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
But I
say unto you, That it shall be more
tolerable for the land of
Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
But I tell you that it will be more bearable for
Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
But I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.
And, behold, there was a man which had his hand
withered. And they asked him,
saying, Is it lawful to
heal on the sabbath days? that they might
accuse him.
and a man with a
withered hand was there. In order to
accuse Jesus, they asked Him, “Is it lawful to
heal on the Sabbath?”
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
This was to
fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
You
brood of vipers, how can you who are evil
say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
But I tell you that men will give an account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
Then certain of the
scribes and of the
Pharisees answered,
saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
Then some of the
scribes and
Pharisees said to Him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”
Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and
garnished.
Then it
says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ On its return, it finds the house
vacant, swept clean, and put in order.
And he spake many things unto them in parables,
saying, Behold, a
sower went forth to
sow;
And He told them many things in parables,
saying, “A farmer went out to
sow his seed.
For
verily I
say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
Another parable put he forth unto them,
saying, The kingdom of heaven is
likened unto a man which
sowed good seed in his field:
Jesus put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who
sowed good seed in his field.
Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will
say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my
barn.
Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and
tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat into my
barn.’”
Another parable put he forth unto them,
saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of
mustard seed, which a man took, and
sowed in his field:
He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a
mustard seed that a man planted in his field.
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: “I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.”
Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
Then Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples came to Him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They
say unto him,
Yea, Lord.
Have you understood all these things?” “
Yes,” they answered.
And when it was evening, his disciples came to him,
saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and
buy themselves
victuals.
When evening came, the disciples came to Him and said, “This is a
desolate place, and the hour is already late. Dismiss the crowds so they can go to the villages and
buy themselves some food.”
And they
say unto him, We have here but five
loaves, and two fishes.
“We have here only five
loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled,
saying, It is a spirit; and they
cried out for fear.
When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were
terrified. “It’s a ghost!” they said, and
cried out in fear.
But
straightway Jesus spake unto them,
saying, Be of good
cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
But Jesus spoke up at once: “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”
But when he saw the wind
boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he
cried,
saying, Lord, save me.
But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink,
cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
Then those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God!”
For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘
Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’
But ye
say,
Whosoever shall
say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by
whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
But you
say that if
anyone says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever you would have received from me is a gift devoted to God,’
Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias
prophesy of you,
saying,
You hypocrites! Isaiah
prophesied correctly about you:
Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the
Pharisees were
offended, after they heard this
saying?
Then the disciples came to Him and said, “Are You aware that the
Pharisees were
offended when they heard this?”
And, behold, a woman of
Canaan came out of the same coasts, and
cried unto him,
saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is
grievously vexed with a devil.
And a
Canaanite woman from that region came to Him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is
miserably possessed by a
demon.”
But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and
besought him,
saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
But Jesus did not answer a word. So His disciples came and urged Him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”
Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
The woman came and
knelt before Him. “Lord, help me!” she said.
And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?
The disciples replied, “Where in this
desolate place could we find enough bread to feed such a large crowd?”
He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
But He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘The weather will be fair, for the sky is red,’
And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.
They discussed this among themselves and concluded, “It is because we did not bring any bread.”
When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea
Philippi, he asked his disciples,
saying, Whom do men
say that I the Son of man am?
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea
Philippi, He questioned His disciples: “Who do people
say the Son of Man is?”
And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
They replied, “Some
say John the Baptist; others
say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
“But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?”
And I
say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of
hell shall not prevail against it.
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.
Then Peter took him, and began to
rebuke him,
saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
Peter took Him aside and began to
rebuke Him. “Far be it from You, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to You!”
Verily I
say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Do not tell
anyone about this vision until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
And his disciples asked him,
saying, Why then
say the
scribes that Elias must first come?
The disciples asked Him, “Why then do the
scribes say that
Elijah must come first?”
But I
say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him
whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
But I tell you that
Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him whatever they wished. In the same way, the Son of Man will suffer at their hands.”
And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man,
kneeling down to him, and
saying,
When they came to the crowd, a man came up to Jesus and
knelt before Him.
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for
verily I
say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of
mustard seed, ye shall
say unto this mountain, Remove hence to
yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
“Because you have so little faith,” He answered. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a
mustard seed, you can
say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
He saith,
Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him,
saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
“
Yes,” he answered. When Peter entered the house, Jesus
preempted him. “What do you think, Simon?” He asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs and taxes: from their own sons, or from others?”
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who then is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
And said,
Verily I
say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
“Truly I tell you,” He said, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Take
heed that ye
despise not one of these little ones; for I
say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
See that you do not look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of My Father in heaven.
And if so be that he find it,
verily I
say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the
ninety and nine which went not
astray.
And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices more over that one sheep than over the
ninety-nine that did not go
astray.
Verily I
say unto you,
Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and
whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
Again, I tell you truly that if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven.
Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
Jesus answered, “I tell you, not just seven times, but seventy-seven times!
The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him,
saying, Lord, have
patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
Then the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Have
patience with me,’ he
begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’
But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred
pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat,
saying, Pay me that thou owest.
But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred
denarii. He
grabbed him and began to
choke him,
saying, ‘Pay back what you owe me!’
And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and
besought him,
saying, Have
patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
So his fellow servant fell down and
begged him, ‘Have
patience with me, and I will pay you back.’
And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these
sayings, he departed from
Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;
When Jesus had finished
saying these things, He left
Galilee and went into the region of
Judea beyond the Jordan.
The
Pharisees also came unto him,
tempting him, and
saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
Then some
Pharisees came and tested Him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to
divorce his wife for any reason?”
They
say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of
divorcement, and to put her away?
“Why then,” they asked, “did Moses order a man to give his wife a
certificate of
divorce and send her away?”
Now I tell you that
whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman, commits
adultery.”
His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.
His disciples said to Him, “If this is the case between a man and his wife, it is better not to marry.”
But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.
“Not
everyone can accept this word,” He replied, “but only those to whom it has been given.
But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
When the young man heard this, he went away in sorrow, because he had great wealth.
Then said Jesus unto his disciples,
Verily I
say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
And again I
say unto you, It is easier for a
camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Again I tell you, it is easier for a
camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly
amazed,
saying, Who then can be saved?
When the disciples heard this, they were greatly
astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”
And Jesus said unto them,
Verily I
say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, in the
renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
They
say unto him, Because no man hath
hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the
vineyard; and
whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
‘Because no one has
hired us,’ they answered. So he told them, ‘You also go into my
vineyard.’
Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
‘These men who were
hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the
scorching heat of the day.’
But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be
baptized with the baptism that I am
baptized with? They
say unto him, We are able.
“You do not know what you are asking,” Jesus replied. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” the brothers answered.
And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by,
cried out,
saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
And there were two blind men sitting beside the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they
cried out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”
And the multitude
rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they
cried the more,
saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
The crowd
admonished them to be silent, but they
cried out all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”
They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
“Lord,” they answered, “let our eyes be opened.”
Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and
straightway ye shall find an
ass tied, and a
colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
saying to them, “Go into the village
ahead of you, and at once you will find a
donkey tied there, with her
colt beside her.
Untie them and bring them to Me.
And if any man
say ought unto you, ye shall
say, The Lord hath need of them; and
straightway he will send them.
If
anyone questions you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”
All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
This took place to
fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
Tell ye the daughter of
Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee,
meek, and sitting upon an
ass, and a
colt the
foal of an
ass.
“
Say to the Daughter of
Zion, ‘See, your King comes to you, gentle and riding on a
donkey, on a
colt, the
foal of a
donkey.’”
And the multitudes that went before, and that followed,
cried,
saying,
Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord;
Hosanna in the highest.
The crowds that went
ahead of Him and those that followed were
shouting: “
Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” “
Hosanna in the highest!”
And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
When Jesus had entered Jerusalem, the whole city was
stirred and asked, “Who is this?”
And when the chief priests and
scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and
saying,
Hosanna to the Son of David; they were
sore displeased,
But the chief priests and
scribes were
indignant when they saw the wonders He performed and the children
shouting in the temple courts, “
Hosanna to the Son of David!”
And said unto him, Hearest thou what these
say? And Jesus saith unto them,
Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
“Do You hear what these children are
saying?” they asked. “
Yes,” Jesus answered. “Have you never read: ‘From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise’?”
And when the disciples saw it, they
marvelled,
saying, How soon is the fig tree
withered away!
When the disciples saw this, they
marveled and asked, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”
Jesus answered and said unto them,
Verily I
say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall
say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.
The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?
What was the source of John’s baptism? Was it from heaven or from men?” They
deliberated among themselves and said, “If we
say, ‘From heaven,’ He will ask, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.
But if we say, ‘From men,’ we are afraid of the people, for they all regard John as a prophet.”
Whether of them
twain did the will of his father? They
say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them,
Verily I
say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
Which of the two did the will of his father?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.
