And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall
flee from thee, and say,
Nineveh is laid waste: who will
bemoan her? whence shall I
seek comforters for thee?
Thou also shalt be
drunken: thou shalt be
hid, thou also shalt
seek strength because of the enemy.
You too will become
drunk; you will go into hiding and
seek refuge from the enemy.
The burden which
Habakkuk the prophet did
see.
This is the burden that
Habakkuk the prophet received in a vision:
I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
I will stand at my guard post and station myself on the ramparts. I will watch to see what He will say to me, and how I should answer when corrected.
And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor enquired for him.
and those who turn back from following the LORD, neither seeking the LORD nor inquiring of Him.”
Seek ye the LORD, all ye
meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment;
seek righteousness,
seek meekness: it may be ye shall be
hid in the day of the LORD’S anger.
Seek the LORD, all you humble of the earth who carry out His justice.
Seek righteousness;
seek humility. Perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the LORD’s anger.
The LORD hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more.
The LORD has taken away your punishment; He has turned back your enemy. Israel’s King, the LORD, is among you; no longer will you fear any
harm.
Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?
‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not appear to you like nothing in comparison?’
Is the
seed yet in the
barn?
yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the
pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I
bless you.
Is there still
seed in the
barn? The vine, the fig, the
pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yet yielded fruit. But from this day on, I will
bless you.”
Then said I,
Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to
see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.
“Where are you going?” I asked. “To measure Jerusalem,” he replied, “and to determine its width and length.”
And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the
filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will
clothe thee with change of
raiment.
So the angel said to those standing before him, “Take off his
filthy clothes!” Then he said to Joshua, “
See, I have removed your iniquity, and I will
clothe you with splendid robes.”
For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will
engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
See the stone I have set before Joshua; on that one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will
engrave on it an inscription, declares the LORD of Hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day.
And said unto me, What
seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a
candlestick all of gold, with a
bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps
thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
“What do you
see?” he asked. “I
see a solid gold lampstand,” I replied, “with a
bowl at the top and seven lamps on it, with seven spouts to the lamps.
For who hath
despised the day of small things? for they shall
rejoice, and shall
see the
plummet in the hand of
Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and
fro through the whole earth.
For who has
despised the day of small things? But these seven eyes of the LORD, which
scan the whole earth, will
rejoice when they
see the
plumb line in the hand of
Zerubbabel.”
And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.
“What do you
see?” asked the angel. “I
see a flying
scroll,” I replied, “twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide.”
Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.
Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and told me, “Now lift up your eyes and see what is approaching.”
For the
seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their
dew; and I will cause the
remnant of this people to possess all these things.
“For the
seed will be prosperous, the vine will yield its fruit, the ground will yield its produce, and the
skies will give their
dew. To the
remnant of this people I will give all these things as an inheritance.
And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also.
and the residents of one city will go to another, saying: ‘Let us go at once to
plead before the LORD and to
seek the LORD of Hosts. I myself am going.’
Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to
seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.
And many peoples and strong nations will come to
seek the LORD of Hosts in Jerusalem and to
plead before the LORD.”
Ashkelon shall
see it, and fear;
Gaza also shall
see it, and be very sorrowful, and
Ekron; for her expectation shall be
ashamed; and the king shall perish from
Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.
Ashkelon will
see and fear;
Gaza will
writhe in
agony, as will
Ekron, for her hope will wither. There will cease to be a king in
Gaza, and Ashkelon will be uninhabited.
And I will
encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no
oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I
seen with mine eyes.
But I will camp around My house because of an army, because of those who march to and
fro, and never again will an
oppressor overrun My people, for now I keep watch with My own eyes.
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of
Zion;
shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an
ass, and upon a
colt the
foal of an
ass.
Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of
Zion!
Shout in triumph, O Daughter of Jerusalem!
See, your King comes to you, righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a
donkey, on a
colt, the
foal of a
donkey.
And the LORD shall be
seen over them, and his
arrow shall go forth as the
lightning: and the LORD GOD shall blow the
trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.
Then the LORD will appear over them, and His
arrow will go forth like
lightning. The Lord GOD will sound the ram’s horn and advance in the whirlwinds of the south.
For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have
seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no
shepherd.
For idols speak
deceit and diviners
see illusions; they tell false dreams and offer empty comfort. Therefore the people
wander like sheep,
oppressed for lack of a
shepherd.
And they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall
rejoice as through wine:
yea, their children shall
see it, and be
glad; their heart shall
rejoice in the LORD.
Ephraim will be like a mighty man, and their hearts will be
glad as with wine. Their children will
see it and be joyful; their hearts will
rejoice in the LORD.
And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not,
forbear. So they
weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
Then I told them, “If it
seems right to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them.” So they
weighed out my wages, thirty pieces of silver.
For, lo, I will raise up a
shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall
seek the young one, nor
heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and
tear their claws in pieces.
For behold, I will raise up a
shepherd in the land who will neither care for the lost, nor
seek the young, nor
heal the broken, nor
sustain the healthy, but he will
devour the flesh of the choice sheep and
tear off their
hooves.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
So on that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be
holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and
seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the
Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.
Indeed, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the LORD of Hosts, and all who sacrifice will come and take some pots and
cook in them. And on that day there will no longer be a
Canaanite in the house of the LORD of Hosts.
And your eyes shall
see, and ye shall say, The LORD will be
magnified from the border of Israel.
You will
see this with your own eyes, and you
yourselves will say, ‘The LORD is great—even beyond the borders of Israel.’”
Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.
Behold, I will
rebuke your descendants, and I will spread dung on your faces, the waste from your feasts, and you will be carried off with it.
For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should
seek the law at his mouth: for he is the
messenger of the LORD of hosts.
For the lips of a priest should preserve knowledge, and people should
seek instruction from his mouth, because he is the
messenger of the LORD of Hosts.
And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might
seek a godly
seed. Therefore take
heed to your spirit, and let none deal
treacherously against the wife of his youth.
Has not the LORD made them one, having a portion of the Spirit? And why one? Because He
seeks godly offspring. So guard
yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.
Behold, I will send my
messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye
seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the
messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
“Behold, I will send My
messenger, who will prepare the way before Me. Then the Lord whom you
seek will suddenly come to His temple—the
Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight—
see, He is coming,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Bring ye all the
tithes into the
storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now
herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Bring the full
tithe into the
storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “
See if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing without measure.
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
asking, “Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had
seen in the east went
ahead of them until it stood over the place where the Child was.
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and
flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will
seek the young child to destroy him.
When the
Magi had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and
flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.”
Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.
“Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel, for those seeking the Child’s life are now dead.”
The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
the people living in darkness have
seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has
dawned.”
And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain and sat down. His disciples came to Him,
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Let your light so
shine before men, that they may
see your good works, and
glorify your Father which is in heaven.
In the same way, let your light
shine before men, that they may
see your good deeds and
glorify your Father in heaven.
Take
heed that ye do not your
alms before men, to be
seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
“Be careful not to perform your righteous acts before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
That thine
alms may be in secret: and thy Father which
seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be
seen of men.
Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy
closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which
seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which
seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
For the Gentiles
strive after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.
Thou
hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou
see clearly to cast out the
mote out of thy brother’s eye.
You
hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will
see clearly to remove the
speck from your brother’s eye.
Ask, and it shall be given you;
seek, and ye shall find;
knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Ask, and it will be given to you;
seek, and you will find;
knock, and the door will be opened to you.
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
For
everyone who asks receives; he who
seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
And Jesus saith unto him,
See thou tell no man; but go thy way,
shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Then Jesus
instructed him, “
See that you don’t tell
anyone. But go, show
yourself to the priest and offer the gift prescribed by Moses, as a testimony to them.”
And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the
palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus
seeing their faith said unto the sick of the
palsy; Son, be of good
cheer; thy sins be
forgiven thee.
Just then some men brought to Him a
paralytic lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the
paralytic, “Take courage, son; your sins are
forgiven.”
And, behold, certain of the
scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.
And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
And their eyes were opened. Jesus
warned them sternly, “
See that no one finds out about this!”
And when the devil was cast out, the
dumb spake: and the multitudes
marvelled, saying, It was never so
seen in Israel.
And when the
demon had been driven out, the man began to speak. The crowds were
amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been
seen in Israel!”
Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and
shew John again those things which ye do hear and
see:
Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see:
And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to
see? A reed
shaken with the wind?
As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to
see? A reed
swaying in the wind?
But what went ye out for to
see? A man clothed in soft
raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
Otherwise, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Look, those who wear fine clothing are found in kings’ palaces.
But what went ye out for to
see? A prophet?
yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
What then did you go out to
see? A prophet?
Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight.
Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and
dumb: and he
healed him,
insomuch that the blind and
dumb both spake and saw.
Then a
demon-possessed man who was blind and
mute was brought to Jesus, and He
healed the man so that he could speak and
see.
Then certain of the
scribes and of the
Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would
see a sign from thee.
Then some of the
scribes and
Pharisees said to Him, “Teacher, we want to
see a sign from You.”
But he answered and said unto them, An evil and
adulterous generation
seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet
Jonas:
Jesus replied, “A wicked and
adulterous generation demands a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of the prophet
Jonah.
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through
arid places
seeking rest and does not find it.
And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a
sower went forth to
sow;
And He told them many things in parables, saying, “A farmer went out to
sow his
seed.
And when he
sowed, some
seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and
devoured them up:
And as he was
sowing, some
seed fell along the path, and the birds came and
devoured it.
And when the sun was up, they were
scorched; and because they had no root, they
withered away.
But when the sun rose, the
seedlings were
scorched, and they
withered because they had no root.
And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and
choked them:
Other
seed fell among thorns, which grew up and
choked the
seedlings.
But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an
hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
Still other
seed fell on good soil and produced a crop—a
hundredfold, sixtyfold, or thirtyfold.
Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
This is why I speak to them in parables: ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.’
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled: ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should
see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should
heal them.
For this people’s heart has grown
callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might
see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would
heal them.’
But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.
For
verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to
see those things which ye
see, and have not
seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
When
anyone hears the message of the kingdom but does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the
seed sown along the path.
But he that received the
seed into
stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and
anon with joy receiveth it;
The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.
He also that received
seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the
deceitfulness of riches,
choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
The
seed sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but the
worries of this life and the
deceitfulness of wealth
choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
But he that received
seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an
hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
But the
seed sown on good soil is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and produces a crop—a
hundredfold, sixtyfold, or thirtyfold.”
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is
likened unto a man which
sowed good
seed in his field:
Jesus put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who
sowed good
seed in his field.
So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir,
didst not thou
sow good
seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you
sow good
seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of
mustard seed, which a man took, and
sowed in his field:
He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a
mustard seed that a man planted in his field.
Which indeed is the least of all
seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and
lodge in the branches thereof.
Although it is the smallest of all seeds, yet it grows into the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”
He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
He replied, “The One who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.
The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
The field is the world, and the good seed represents the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls.
Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the
dumb to speak, the
maimed to be whole, the
lame to walk, and the blind to
see: and they
glorified the God of Israel.
A wicked and
adulterous generation
seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet
Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
A wicked and
adulterous generation demands a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of
Jonah.” Then He left them and went away.
Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they
see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for
verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of
mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to
yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
“Because you have so little faith,” He answered. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a
mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Take
heed that ye
despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
See that you do not look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of My Father in heaven.
How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone
astray,
doth he not leave the
ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and
seeketh that which is gone
astray?
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes
astray, will he not leave the
ninety-nine on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost?
Tell ye the daughter of
Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee,
meek, and sitting upon an
ass, and a
colt the
foal of an
ass.
“Say to the Daughter of
Zion, ‘
See, your King comes to you, gentle and riding on a
donkey, on a
colt, the
foal of a
donkey.’”
And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing
thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee
henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree
withered away.
Seeing a fig tree by the road, He went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. “May you never bear fruit again!” He said. And immediately the tree
withered.
For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had
seen it,
repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
For John came to you in a righteous way and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not
repent and believe him.
And when the king came in to
see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a
wedding garment:
But when the king came in to
see the guests, he
spotted a man who was not dressed in
wedding clothes.
And they sent out unto him their disciples with the
Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
They sent their disciples to Him along with the
Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are
honest and that You teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You
seek favor from no one, because You pay no attention to external appearance.
