But afterward they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.
but later they changed their minds and took back the menservants and maidservants they had freed, and they forced them to become slaves again.
And ye were now
turned, and had done right in my sight, in
proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
Recently you
repented and did what pleased Me; each of you proclaimed freedom for his
neighbor. You made a covenant before Me in the house that bears My Name.
But ye
turned and
polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his
handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
But now you have changed your minds and
profaned My name. Each of you has taken back the menservants and maidservants whom you had set at liberty to go wherever they wanted, and you have again forced them to be your slaves.
I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and
amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor
hearkened unto me.
Again and again I have sent you all My servants the prophets,
proclaiming: ‘
Turn now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after other gods to serve them. Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear or
listened to Me.
It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may
forgive their iniquity and their sin.
Perhaps when the people of Judah hear about all the
calamity I plan to bring upon them, each of them will
turn from his wicked way. Then I will
forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
It may be they will present their
supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the
fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.
Perhaps they will bring their petition before the LORD, and each one will
turn from his wicked way; for great are the anger and
fury that the LORD has pronounced against this people.”
Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto
Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
When they had heard all these words, they
turned to one another in fear and said to
Baruch, “Surely we must report all these words to the king.”
And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah’s house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the
mire, and they are
turned away back.
All the women who remain in the palace of the king of Judah will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon, and those women will say: ‘They misled you and overcame you— those trusted friends of yours. Your feet
sank into the
mire, and they deserted you.’
Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.
had Jeremiah brought from the
courtyard of the guard, and they
turned him over to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to take him home. So Jeremiah remained among his own people.
Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go
wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him
victuals and a reward, and let him go.
But before Jeremiah
turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, “Return to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the people, or go
anywhere else that seems right.” Then the captain of the guard gave him a
ration and a gift and released him.
So all the people that
Ishmael had carried away
captive from
Mizpah cast about and returned, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah.
and all the people whom
Ishmael had taken
captive at
Mizpah turned and went over to Johanan son of Kareah.
But they
hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to
turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.
But they did not
listen or
incline their ears; they did not
turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to other gods.
Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and
turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled
apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the LORD.
Why am I seeing this? They are
terrified, they are retreating; their warriors are defeated, they
flee in
haste without looking back; terror is on every side!” declares the LORD.
Also her
hired men are in the midst of her like
fatted bullocks; for they also are
turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their
calamity was come upon them, and the time of their
visitation.
Even the
mercenaries among her are like
fattened calves. They too will
turn back; together they will
flee, they will not stand their ground, for the day of
calamity is coming upon them— the time of their punishment.
At the noise of the stamping of the
hoofs of his strong horses, at the
rushing of his
chariots, and at the
rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;
They shall
howl, saying, How is it broken down! how hath Moab
turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a
derision and a dismaying to all them about him.
“How
shattered it is! How they
wail! How Moab has
turned his back in shame! Moab has become an object of
ridicule and
horror to all those around him.”
Flee ye,
turn back, dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the
calamity of
Esau upon him, the time that I will visit him.
Turn and run! Lie low, O dwellers of Dedan, for I will bring
disaster on
Esau at the time I
punish him.
Damascus is waxed feeble, and
turneth herself to
flee, and fear hath seized on her:
anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in
travail.
Damascus has become feeble; she has
turned to
flee.
Panic has gripped her;
anguish and pain have seized her like a woman in labor.
They shall ask the way to
Zion with their faces
thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.
They will ask the way to
Zion and
turn their faces toward it. They will come and join themselves to the LORD in an
everlasting covenant that will never be forgotten.
My people hath been lost sheep: their
shepherds have caused them to go
astray, they have
turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.
My people are lost sheep; their
shepherds have led them
astray, causing them to
roam the mountains. They have
wandered from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting place.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the
sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the
oppressing sword they shall
turn every one to his people, and they shall
flee every one to his own land.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and the one who wields the
sickle at harvest time. In the face of the
oppressor’s sword, each will
turn to his own people, each will
flee to his own land.
Their
Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall throughly
plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.
Their
Redeemer is strong; the LORD of Hosts is His name. He will
fervently plead their case so that He may bring rest to the earth, but
turmoil to those who live in Babylon.
Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.
“Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, you who
devastate the whole earth, declares the LORD. I will stretch out My hand against you; I will roll you over the cliffs and
turn you into a
charred mountain.
The sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.
The sea has come up over Babylon; she is covered in
turbulent waves.
Jerusalem hath
grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her
despise her, because they have seen her nakedness:
yea, she sigheth, and
turneth backward.
Jerusalem has
sinned greatly; therefore she has become an object of
scorn. All who honored her now
despise her, for they have seen her nakedness; she herself groans and
turns away.
From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath
turned me back: he hath made me
desolate and
faint all the day.
He sent fire from on high, and it overpowered my bones. He spread a net for my feet and
turned me back. He made me
desolate,
faint all the day long.
Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: my
bowels are troubled; mine heart is
turned within me; for I have
grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.
See, O LORD, how distressed I am! I am
churning within; my heart is pounding within me, for I have been most
rebellious. Outside, the sword bereaves; inside, there is death.
Thy prophets have seen vain and
foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity, to
turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of
banishment.
The visions of your prophets were empty and
deceptive; they did not
expose your guilt to ward off your captivity. The burdens they envisioned for you were empty and misleading.
Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day.
Indeed, He keeps turning His hand against me all day long.
He hath
turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me
desolate.
He forced me off my path and
tore me to pieces; He left me without help.
To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,
to deny a man justice before the Most High,
Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.
Let us examine and test our ways, and turn back to the LORD.
For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of
Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.
The punishment of the daughter of my people is greater than that of
Sodom, which was overthrown in an instant without a hand
turned to help her.
Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.
Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our houses to foreigners.
The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is
turned into
mourning.
Joy has left our hearts; our dancing has
turned to
mourning.
Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
Restore us to
Yourself, O LORD, so we may return; renew our days as of old,
Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.
and their wings were touching one another. They did not
turn as they moved; each one went straight
ahead.
And they went every one straight forward:
whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they
turned not when they went.
Each creature went straight
ahead. Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, without
turning as they moved.
When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went.
As they moved, they went in any of the four directions, without
pivoting as they moved.
Yet if thou
warn the wicked, and he
turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
But if you
warn a wicked man and he does not
turn from his wickedness and his wicked way, he will die in his iniquity, but you will have saved
yourself.
Again, When a righteous man
doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him
warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Now if a righteous man
turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I put a
stumbling block before him, he will die. If you did not
warn him, he will die in his sin, and the righteous acts he did will not be remembered. And I will hold you responsible for his blood.
Moreover take thou unto thee an iron pan, and set it for a wall of iron between thee and the city: and set thy face against it, and it shall be besieged, and thou shalt lay siege against it. This shall be a sign to the house of Israel.
Then take an iron plate and set it up as an iron wall between
yourself and the city.
Turn your face toward it so that it is under siege, and
besiege it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel.
Therefore thou shalt set thy face toward the siege of Jerusalem, and thine arm shall be uncovered, and thou shalt
prophesy against it.
You must
turn your face toward the siege of Jerusalem with your arm bared, and
prophesy against it.
And, behold, I will lay bands upon thee, and thou shalt not turn thee from one side to another, till thou hast ended the days of thy siege.
Now behold, I will
tie you up with ropes so you cannot
turn from side to side until you have finished the days of your siege.
And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations
whither they shall be carried
captives, because I am broken with their
whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a
whoring after their idols: and they shall
lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.
Then in the nations to which they have been carried
captive, your survivors will remember Me—how I have been
grieved by their
adulterous hearts that
turned away from Me, and by their eyes that
lusted after idols. So they will
loathe themselves for the evil they have done and for all their abominations.
All hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weak as water.
Every hand will go
limp, and every
knee will
turn to water.
My face will I
turn also from them, and they shall
pollute my secret place: for the robbers shall enter into it, and
defile it.
I will
turn My face away from them, and they will
defile My
treasured place. Violent men will enter it, and they will
defile it.
He said
furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but
turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see what they are doing—the great abominations that the house of Israel is
committing—to drive Me far from My sanctuary? Yet you will see even greater abominations.”
He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.
Again, He told me, “You will see them
committing even greater abominations.”
Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see this? Yet you will see even greater abominations than these.”
When they went, they went upon their four sides; they
turned not as they went, but to the place
whither the head looked they followed it; they
turned not as they went.
When they moved, they would go in any of the four directions, without
turning as they moved. For wherever the head faced, the
cherubim would go in that direction, without
turning as they moved.
And when the cherubims went, the wheels went by them: and when the cherubims lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the same wheels also turned not from beside them.
When the
cherubim moved, the wheels moved beside them, and even when they spread their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels did not
veer away from their side.
Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous
sad, whom I have not made
sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:
Because you have
disheartened the righteous with your lies, even though I have caused them no grief, and because you have encouraged the wicked not to
turn from their evil ways to save their lives,
Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Repent, and
turn yourselves from your idols; and
turn away your faces from all your abominations.
Therefore tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘
Repent and
turn away from your idols;
turn your faces away from all your abominations.
So will I make my
fury toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more
angry.
So I will lay to rest My wrath against you, and My jealousy will
turn away from you. Then I will be calm and no longer
angry.
And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low
stature, whose branches
turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.
It
sprouted and became a spreading vine, low in height, with branches
turned toward him; yet its roots remained where it stood. So it became a vine and yielded branches and sent out shoots.
But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
But if the wicked man turns from all the sins he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die.
Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Lord GOD. Wouldn’t I
prefer that he
turn from his ways and live?
But when the righteous
turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his
trespass that he hath
trespassed, and in his sin that he hath
sinned, in them shall he die.
But if a righteous man
turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity,
committing the same abominations as the wicked, will he live? None of the righteous acts he did will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness and sin he has committed, he will die.
When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, he will die for this. He will die because of the iniquity he has committed.
Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
But if a wicked man turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will save his life.
Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Because he considered and turned from all the transgressions he had committed, he will surely live; he will not die.
Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD.
Repent, and
turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each according to his ways, declares the Lord GOD.
Repent and
turn from all your transgressions, so that your iniquity will not become your
downfall.
For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore
turn yourselves, and live ye.
For I take no pleasure in
anyone’s death, declares the Lord GOD. So
repent and live!
And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt answer, For the
tidings; because it cometh: and every heart shall
melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall
faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord GOD.
And when they ask, ‘Why are you
groaning?’ you are to say, ‘Because of the news that is coming. Every heart will
melt, and every hand will go
limp. Every spirit will
faint, and every
knee will
turn to water.’
Yes, it is coming and it will surely happen, declares the Lord GOD.”
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Remove the
diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same:
exalt him that is low, and
abase him that is high.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Remove the
turban, and take off the crown. Things will not remain as they are:
Exalt the lowly and bring low the
exalted.
Those that be near, and those that be far from thee, shall
mock thee, which art infamous and much
vexed.
Those near and far will
mock you, O infamous city, full of
turmoil.
Girded with girdles upon their loins, exceeding in
dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of
Chaldea, the land of their
nativity:
wearing belts on their waists and flowing
turbans on their heads; all of them looked like officers of the Babylonians in
Chaldea, the land of their birth.
And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they
defiled her with their
whoredom, and she was
polluted with them, and her mind was
alienated from them.
Then the Babylonians came to her, to the bed of love, and in their
lust they
defiled her. But after she had been
defiled by them, she
turned away in
disgust.
So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was
alienated from her, like as my mind was
alienated from her sister.
When Oholibah openly
prostituted herself and exposed her nakedness, I
turned away from her in
disgust, just as I had
turned away from her sister.
Therefore, O
Aholibah, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will raise up thy lovers against thee, from whom thy mind is
alienated, and I will bring them against thee on every side;
Therefore, Oholibah, this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will
incite your lovers against you, those from whom you
turned away in
disgust. And I will bring them against you from every side—
For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will deliver thee into the hand of them whom thou hatest, into the hand of them from whom thy mind is
alienated:
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Surely I will deliver you into the hands of those you
hate, from whom you
turned away in
disgust.
Forbear to cry, make no
mourning for the dead, bind the
tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy
shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.
Groan quietly; do not
mourn for the dead. Put on your
turban and
strap your
sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips or eat the bread of mourners.”
And your tires shall be upon your heads, and your
shoes upon your feet: ye shall not
mourn nor
weep; but ye shall pine away for your
iniquities, and
mourn one toward another.
Your
turbans will remain on your heads and your
sandals on your feet. You will not
mourn or
weep, but you will waste away because of your sins, and you will
groan among
yourselves.
Son of man, because that Tyrus hath said against Jerusalem,
Aha, she is broken that was the gates of the people: she is
turned unto me: I shall be
replenished, now she is laid waste:
“Son of man, because Tyre has said of Jerusalem, ‘
Aha! The gate to the nations is broken; it has
swung open to me; now that she lies in ruins I will be filled,’
Syria was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of the wares of thy making: they occupied in thy fairs with emeralds, purple, and
broidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and
agate.
Aram was your customer because of your many products; they exchanged
turquoise, purple,
embroidered work, fine linen, coral, and
rubies for your wares.
Thou hast been in
Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the
sardius,
topaz, and the
diamond, the
beryl, the
onyx, and the
jasper, the
sapphire, the
emerald, and the
carbuncle, and gold: the
workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou
wast created.
You were in
Eden, the garden of God. Every kind of precious stone adorned you:
ruby,
topaz, and
diamond,
beryl,
onyx, and
jasper,
sapphire,
turquoise, and
emerald. Your mountings and settings were crafted in gold, prepared on the day of your creation.
Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and
desolate, from the tower of
Syene even unto the border of
Ethiopia.
therefore I am against you and against your rivers. I will
turn the land of Egypt into a ruin, a
desolate wasteland from
Migdol to
Syene, and as far as the border of
Cush.
And it shall be no more the confidence of the house of Israel, which bringeth their iniquity to
remembrance, when they shall look after them: but they shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
Egypt will never again be an object of trust for the house of Israel, but will remind them of their iniquity in turning to the Egyptians. Then they will know that I am the Lord GOD.”
Nevertheless, if thou
warn the wicked of his way to
turn from it; if he do not
turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
But if you
warn the wicked man to
turn from his way, and he does not
turn from it, he will die in his iniquity, but you will have saved your life.
Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
Say to them: ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked should turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’
Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his
transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he
turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.
Therefore, son of man, say to your people: ‘The righteousness of the righteous man will not deliver him in the day of his
transgression; neither will the wickedness of the wicked man cause him to
stumble on the day he
turns from his wickedness. Nor will the righteous man be able to
survive by his righteousness on the day he sins.’
Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;
But if I tell the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ and he turns from his sin and does what is just and right—
When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.
If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he will die for it.
But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.
But if a wicked man turns from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he will live because of this.
I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be
desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.
I will
turn your cities into ruins, and you will become a
desolation. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and sown:
For behold, I am on your side; I will turn toward you, and you will be tilled and sown.
And I will
turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and
horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
I will
turn you around, put hooks in your jaws, and bring you out with all your army—your horses, your
horsemen in full
armor, and a great company armed with shields and bucklers, all
brandishing their swords.
To take a
spoil, and to take a prey; to
turn thine hand upon the
desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have
gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.
in order to seize the
spoil and carry off the
plunder, to
turn a hand against the
desolate places now inhabited and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired
livestock and possessions and who live at the center of the land.’
And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
I will turn you around, drive you along, bring you up from the far north, and send you against the mountains of Israel.
And the doors had two leaves
apiece, two
turning leaves; two leaves for the one door, and two leaves for the other door.
and each door had two
swinging panels. There were two panels for one door and two for the other.
He turned about to the west side, and measured five hundred reeds with the measuring reed.
And he came around and measured the west side to be five hundred cubits long.
They shall have linen bonnets upon their heads, and shall have linen
breeches upon their loins; they shall not
gird themselves with any thing that causeth
sweat.
They are to wear linen
turbans on their heads and linen undergarments around their waists. They must not wear anything that makes them
perspire.
As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass
hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
As you lay on your bed, O king, your thoughts
turned to the future, and the
Revealer of Mysteries made known to you what will happen.
Then these men were bound in their coats, their
hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning
fiery furnace.
So they were
tied up, wearing robes,
trousers,
turbans, and other clothes, and they were thrown into the
blazing fiery furnace.
Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.
Thus ends the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts troubled me greatly, and my face turned pale. But I kept the matter to myself.”
And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and
sackcloth, and ashes:
So I
turned my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and petition, with fasting,
sackcloth, and ashes.
We have
sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
we have
sinned and done wrong. We have acted wickedly and rebelled. We have
turned away from Your commandments and ordinances.
Yea, all Israel have
transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the
curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have
sinned against him.
All Israel has
transgressed Your law and
turned away, refusing to obey Your voice; so the oath and the
curse written in the Law of Moses the servant of God has been poured out on us, because we have
sinned against You.
As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might
turn from our
iniquities, and understand thy truth.
Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this
disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by
turning from our
iniquities and giving attention to Your truth.
