And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and
besought him, saying, Have
patience with me, and I will pay
thee all.
So his fellow servant fell down and
begged him, ‘Have
patience with me, and I will pay you back.’
Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I
forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
Then the master summoned him and declared, ‘You wicked servant! I
forgave all your debt because you
begged me.
Shouldest not thou also have had
compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had
pity on
thee?
Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had on you?’
Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have
forsaken all, and followed
thee; what shall we have therefore?
“Look,” Peter replied, “we have left everything to follow You. What then will there be for us?”
But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do
thee no wrong:
didst not thou agree with me for a
penny?
But he answered one of them, ‘Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Did you not agree with me on one
denarius?
Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
Take your pay and go. I want to give this last man the same as I gave you.
Tell ye the daughter of
Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto
thee,
meek, and sitting upon an
ass, and a
colt the
foal of an
ass.
“Say to the Daughter of
Zion, ‘See, your King comes to you, gentle and riding on a
donkey, on a
colt, the
foal of a
donkey.’”
And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing
thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on
thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree
withered away.
Seeing a fig tree by the road, He went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. “May you never bear fruit again!” He said. And immediately the tree
withered.
And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?
When Jesus returned to the temple courts and began to teach, the chief priests and elders of the people came up to Him. “By what authority are You doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave You this authority?”
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto
thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a
hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a
hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling!
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’
His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’
Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew
thee that thou art an hard man,
reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
Finally, the servant who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Master, I knew that you are a hard man,
reaping where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we
thee an
hungred, and fed
thee? or
thirsty, and gave
thee drink?
Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You
hungry and feed You, or
thirsty and give You something to drink?
When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and
clothe You?
Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
When did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?’
Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we
thee an
hungred, or
athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto
thee?
And they too will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see You
hungry or
thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’
Now the first day of the feast of
unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where
wilt thou that we prepare for
thee to eat the
passover?
On the first day of the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the
Passover?”
Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be
offended because of
thee, yet will I never be
offended.
Peter said to Him, “Even if all fall away on account of You, I never will.”
Jesus said unto him,
Verily I say unto
thee, That this night, before the
cock crow, thou shalt deny me
thrice.
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus declared, “this very night, before the
rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
Peter replied, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never deny You.” And all the other disciples said the same thing.
And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
So the high priest stood up and asked Him, “Have You no answer? What are these men
testifying against You?”
But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I
adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to Him, “I charge You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”
Saying,
Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that
smote thee?
And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.
After a little while, those standing nearby came up to Peter. “Surely you are one of them,” they said, “for your
accent gives you away.”
Then said
Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against
thee?
Then
Pilate asked Him, “Do You not hear how many charges they are bringing against You?”
As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my
messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before
thee.
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “Behold, I will send My
messenger ahead of You, who will prepare Your way.”
Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with
thee, thou Jesus of
Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know
thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
“What do You want with us, Jesus of
Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”
And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.
and when they found Him, they said, “
Everyone is looking for You!”
When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the
palsy, Son, thy sins be
forgiven thee.
Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the
palsy, Thy sins be
forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
“Which is easier: to say to a
paralytic, ‘Your sins are
forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up,
pick up your mat, and walk’?
I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
“I tell you, get up,
pick up your mat, and go home.”
And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.
and a crowd was sitting around Him. “Look,” He was told, “Your mother and brothers are outside, asking for You.”
And
cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with
thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I
adjure thee by God, that thou
torment me not.
And he
shouted in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I
beg You before God not to
torture me!”
Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for
thee, and hath had
compassion on
thee.
But Jesus would not allow him. “Go home to your own people,” He said, “and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and what mercy He has shown you.”
And
besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray
thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be
healed; and she shall live.
and
pleaded with Him
urgently, “My little daughter is near death. Please come and place Your hands on her, so that she will be
healed and live.”
And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude
thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
His disciples answered, “You can see the crowd pressing in on You, and yet You ask, ‘Who touched Me?’”
And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
“Daughter,” said Jesus, “your faith has
healed you. Go in peace and be free of your
affliction.”
And he took the
damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted,
Damsel, I say unto
thee, arise.
Taking her by the hand, Jesus said, “Talitha koum!” which means, “Little
girl, I say to you, get up!”
For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.
For John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife!”
And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the
damsel, Ask of me
whatsoever thou
wilt, and I will give it
thee.
When the daughter of Herodias came and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests, and the king said to the
girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.”
And he
sware unto her,
Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it
thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
And he
swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom!”
But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he
rebuked Peter, saying, Get
thee behind me,
Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
But Jesus, turning and looking at His disciples,
rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind Me,
Satan! For you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”
And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
Peter said to Jesus, “
Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for You, one for Moses, and one for
Elijah.”
And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto
thee my son, which hath a
dumb spirit;
Someone in the crowd replied, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a spirit that makes him
mute.
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he
rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou
dumb and
deaf spirit, I charge
thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
When Jesus saw that a crowd had come running, He
rebuked the unclean spirit. “You
deaf and
mute spirit,” He said, “I command you to come out and never enter him again.”
And if thy hand
offend thee, cut it off: it is better for
thee to enter into life
maimed, than having two hands to go into
hell, into the fire that never shall be
quenched:
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life
crippled than to have two hands and go into
hell, into the
unquenchable fire.
And if thy foot
offend thee, cut it off: it is better for
thee to enter
halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into
hell, into the fire that never shall be
quenched:
If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life
lame than to have two feet and be thrown into
hell.
And if thine eye
offend thee,
pluck it out: it is better for
thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into
hell fire:
And if your eye causes you to sin,
pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into
hell,
Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
Peter began to say to Him, “Look, we have left everything and followed You.”
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man. “Take courage!” they said. “Get up! He is calling for you.”
And Jesus answered and said unto him, What
wilt thou that I should do unto
thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
“What do you want Me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “Rabboni,” said the blind man, “let me see again.”
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has
healed you.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of
thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
Then He said to the tree, “May no one ever eat of your fruit again.” And His disciples heard this statement.
And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?
“By what authority are You doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave You the authority to do them?”
And Jesus saith unto him,
Verily I say unto
thee, That this day, even in this night, before the
cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me
thrice.
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “this very night, before the
rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.”
But he spake the more
vehemently, If I should die with
thee, I will not deny
thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.
But Peter kept
insisting, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never deny You.” And all the others said the same thing.
And he said,
Abba, Father, all things are possible unto
thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou
wilt.
“
Abba, Father,” He said, “all things are possible for You. Take this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.”
And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
So the high priest stood up before them and questioned Jesus, “Have You no answer? What are these men
testifying against You?”
And
Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against
thee.
Then
Pilate questioned Him again, “Have You no answer? Look how many charges they are bringing against You!”
It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto
thee in order, most excellent
Theophilus,
Therefore, having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent
Theophilus,
But the angel said unto him, Fear not,
Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear
thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid,
Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John.
And the angel answering said unto him, I am
Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto
thee, and to
shew thee these
glad tidings.
“I am
Gabriel,” replied the angel. “I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.
And the angel came in unto her, and said,
Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with
thee: blessed art thou among women.
The angel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.
And when they saw him, they were
amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought
thee sorrowing.
When His parents saw Him, they were
astonished. “Child, why have You done this to us?” His mother asked. “Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You.”
And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a
dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in
thee I am well pleased.
and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in a bodily form like a
dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give
thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to
whomsoever I will I give it.
“I will give You authority over all these kingdoms and all their glory,” he said. “For it has been
relinquished to me, and I can give it to
anyone I wish.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get
thee behind me,
Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’”
For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You to guard You carefully;
And in their hands they shall bear
thee up, lest at any time thou
dash thy foot against a stone.
and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”
Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with
thee, thou Jesus of
Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know
thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.
“
Ha! What do You want with us, Jesus of
Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”
And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are
forgiven thee.
When Jesus saw their faith, He said, “Friend, your sins are
forgiven.”
Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be
forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?
Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are
forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk?’
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to
forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the
palsy,) I say unto
thee, Arise, and take up thy
couch, and go into thine house.
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on the earth to
forgive sins...” He said to the
paralytic, “I tell you, get up,
pick up your mat, and go home.”
And unto him that smiteth
thee on the one
cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy
cloke forbid not to take thy coat also.
If someone strikes you on one
cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone takes your
cloak, do not
withhold your
tunic as well.
Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.
Give to
everyone who asks you, and if
anyone takes what is yours, do not demand it back.
Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto
thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be
healed.
That is why I did not consider myself worthy to come to You. But just say the word, and my servant will be
healed.
And he came and touched the
bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto
thee, Arise.
Then He went up and touched the
coffin, and those carrying it stood still. “Young man,” He said, “I tell you, get up!”
When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to ask, ‘Are You the One who was to come, or should we look for someone else?’”
This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my
messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before
thee.
This is the one about whom it is written: ‘Behold, I will send My
messenger ahead of You, who will prepare Your way before You.’
And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
But Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” “Tell me, Teacher,” he said.
Wherefore I say unto
thee, Her sins, which are many, are
forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is
forgiven, the same loveth little.
Therefore I tell you, because her many sins have been
forgiven, she has loved much. But he who has been
forgiven little loves little.”
And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
And Jesus told the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
He was told, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see You.”
When he saw Jesus, he
cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with
thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I
beseech thee,
torment me not.
When the man saw Jesus, he
cried out and fell down before Him,
shouting in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I
beg You not to
torture me!”
Return to thine own house, and
shew how great things God hath done unto
thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
“Return home and describe how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and proclaimed all over the town how much Jesus had done for him.
And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude
throng thee and press
thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
“Who touched Me?” Jesus asked. But they all denied it. “Master,” said Peter, “the people are crowding and pressing against You.”
And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
“Daughter,” said Jesus, “your faith has
healed you. Go in peace.”
And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.
As Moses and
Elijah were leaving, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for You, one for Moses, and one for
Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)
And, behold, a man of the company
cried out, saying, Master, I
beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child.
Suddenly a man in the crowd
cried out, “Teacher, I
beg You to look at my son, for he is my only child.
And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow
thee whithersoever thou goest.
As they were walking along the road, someone said to Jesus, “I will follow You wherever You go.”
And another also said, Lord, I will follow
thee; but let me first go
bid them
farewell, which are at home at my house.
Still another said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first let me
bid farewell to my family.”
Woe unto
thee, Chorazin!
woe unto
thee,
Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and
Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago
repented, sitting in
sackcloth and ashes.
Woe to you, Chorazin!
Woe to you,
Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and
Sidon, they would have
repented long ago, sitting in
sackcloth and ashes.
In that hour Jesus
rejoiced in spirit, and said, I
thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast
hid these things from the wise and
prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
At that time Jesus
rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight.
And on the
morrow when he departed, he took out two
pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and
whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay
thee.
The next day he took out two
denarii and gave them to the
innkeeper. ‘Take care of him,’ he said, ‘and on my return I will repay you for any additional expense.’
And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Do not bother me. My door is already shut, and my children and I are in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.’
And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the
womb that bare
thee, and the paps which thou hast
sucked.
As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said, “Blessed is the
womb that bore You, and blessed are the breasts that
nursed You!”
Take
heed therefore that the light which is in
thee be not darkness.
Be careful, then, that the light within you is not darkness.
If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright
shining of a
candle doth give
thee light.
So if your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, you will be
radiant, as though a lamp were
shining on you.”
