Neither will I cause men to hear in thee the shame of the heathen any more, neither shalt thou bear the reproach of the people any more, neither shalt thou cause thy nations to fall any more, saith the Lord GOD.
I will no longer allow the taunts of the nations to be heard against you, and you will no longer
endure the reproach of the peoples or cause your nation to
stumble, declares the Lord GOD.”
And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.
Then He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones come to life?” “O Lord GOD,” I replied, “only You know.”
Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:
“And you, son of man, take a single stick and write on it: ‘Belonging to Judah and to the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick and write on it: ‘Belonging to Joseph—the stick of Ephraim—and to all the house of Israel associated with him.’
And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying,
Wilt thou not
shew us what
thou meanest by these?
When your people ask you, ‘Won’t you explain to us what you mean by these?’
And the sticks
whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.
When the sticks on which you write are in your hand and in full view of the people,
Be
thou prepared, and prepare for
thyself,
thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be
thou a guard unto them.
Get ready; prepare
yourself, you and all your company gathered around you; you will be their guard.
After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
After a long time you will be summoned. In the latter years you will enter a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been
desolate. They had been brought out from the nations, and all now dwell securely.
Thou shalt
ascend and come like a storm,
thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land,
thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.
You and all your troops, and many peoples with you will go up, advancing like a
thunderstorm; you will be like a cloud covering the land.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
This is what the Lord GOD says: On that day,
thoughts will arise in your mind, and you will
devise an evil plan.
And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will come against a
tranquil people who dwell securely, all of them living without walls or bars or gates—
Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of
Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art
thou come to take a
spoil? hast
thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great
spoil?
Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of
Tarshish with all its villages will ask, ‘Have you come to capture the
plunder? Have you assembled your hordes to carry away
loot, to make off with silver and gold, to take cattle and goods, to seize great
spoil?’
Therefore, son of man,
prophesy and say unto
Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt
thou not know it?
Therefore
prophesy, son of man, and tell
Gog that this is what the Lord GOD says: On that day when My people Israel are dwelling securely, will you not take notice of this?
And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army:
And you will come from your place out of the far north—you and many peoples with you, all riding horses—a mighty
horde, a huge army.
And
thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be
sanctified in thee, O
Gog, before their eyes.
You will advance against My people Israel like a cloud covering the land. It will happen in the latter days, O
Gog, that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I show Myself holy in you before their eyes.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art
thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which
prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?
This is what the Lord GOD says: Are you the one of whom I have spoken in former days through My servants, the prophets of Israel, who in those times
prophesied for years that I would bring you against them?
Therefore,
thou son of man,
prophesy against
Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O
Gog, the chief prince of
Meshech and
Tubal:
“As for you, O son of man,
prophesy against
Gog and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O
Gog, chief prince of
Meshech and
Tubal.
Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel,
thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the
ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be
devoured.
On the mountains of Israel you will fall—you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to every kind of
ravenous bird and wild beast.
Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.
And,
thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every
feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field,
Assemble yourselves, and come; gather
yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.
And as for you, son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: Call out to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field: ‘
Assemble and come together from all around to the
sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great feast on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood.
Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of
Bashan.
You will eat the flesh of the mighty and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as
though they were rams, lambs, goats, and bulls—all the
fattened animals of
Bashan.
And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall
shew thee; for to the intent that I might
shew them unto thee art
thou brought
hither: declare all that
thou seest to the house of Israel.
“Son of man,” he said to me, “look with your eyes, hear with your ears, and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for that is why you have been brought here. Report to the house of Israel everything you see.”
Thou son of man,
shew the house to the house of Israel, that they may be
ashamed of their
iniquities: and let them measure the pattern.
As for you, son of man, describe the temple to the people of Israel, so that they may be
ashamed of their
iniquities. Let them measure the plan,
And
thou shalt give to the priests the Levites that be of the seed of
Zadok, which approach unto me, to minister unto me, saith the Lord GOD, a young
bullock for a sin offering.
You are to give a young bull from the
herd as a sin offering to the
Levitical priests who are of the family of
Zadok, who approach Me to minister before Me, declares the Lord GOD.
And
thou shalt take of the blood thereof, and put it on the four horns of it, and on the four corners of the settle, and upon the border round about: thus shalt
thou cleanse and
purge it.
You are to take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of the altar, on the four corners of the
ledge, and all around the
rim; thus you will
cleanse the altar and make
atonement for it.
Thou shalt take the
bullock also of the sin offering, and he shall burn it in the appointed place of the house, without the sanctuary.
Then you are to take away the bull for the sin offering and burn it in the appointed part of the temple area outside the sanctuary.
And on the second day
thou shalt offer a
kid of the goats without
blemish for a sin offering; and they shall
cleanse the altar, as they did
cleanse it with the
bullock.
On the second day you are to present an
unblemished male goat as a sin offering, and the altar is to be
cleansed as it was with the bull.
And thou shalt offer them before the LORD, and the priests shall cast salt upon them, and they shall offer them up for a burnt offering unto the LORD.
You must present them before the LORD; the priests are to
sprinkle salt on them and sacrifice them as a burnt offering to the LORD.
Seven days shalt
thou prepare every day a goat for a sin offering: they shall also prepare a young
bullock, and a ram out of the flock, without
blemish.
For seven days you are to provide a male goat daily for a sin offering; you are also to provide a young bull and a ram from the flock, both
unblemished.
And
thou shalt say to the
rebellious, even to the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; O ye house of Israel, let it suffice you of all your abominations,
Tell the
rebellious house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I have had enough of all your abominations, O house of Israel.
Moreover, when ye shall divide by lot the land for inheritance, ye shall offer an
oblation unto the LORD, an holy portion of the land: the length shall be the length of five and twenty
thousand reeds, and the breadth shall be ten
thousand. This shall be holy in all the borders thereof round about.
“When you divide the land by lot as an inheritance, you are to set aside a portion for the LORD, a holy portion of the land 25,000 cubits long and 20,000 cubits wide. This entire tract of land will be holy.
And of this measure shalt thou measure the length of five and twenty thousand, and the breadth of ten thousand: and in it shall be the sanctuary and the most holy place.
From this holy portion, you are to measure off a length of 25,000 cubits and a width of 10,000 cubits, and in it will be the sanctuary, the Most Holy Place.
And the five and twenty thousand of length, and the ten thousand of breadth, shall also the Levites, the ministers of the house, have for themselves, for a possession for twenty chambers.
An adjacent area 25,000 cubits long and 10,000 cubits wide shall belong to the Levites who minister in the temple; it will be their possession for towns in which to live.
And ye shall
appoint the possession of the city five
thousand broad, and five and twenty
thousand long, over against the
oblation of the holy portion: it shall be for the whole house of Israel.
As the property of the city, you are to set aside an area 5,000 cubits wide and 25,000 cubits long, adjacent to the holy district. It will belong to the whole house of Israel.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the first month, in the first day of the month,
thou shalt take a young
bullock without
blemish, and
cleanse the sanctuary:
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘On the first day of the first month you are to take a young bull without
blemish and
purify the sanctuary.
And so
thou shalt do the seventh day of the month for every one that erreth, and for him that is simple: so shall ye
reconcile the house.
You must do the same thing on the seventh day of the month for
anyone who strays
unintentionally or in ignorance. In this way you will make
atonement for the temple.
Thou shalt daily prepare a burnt offering unto the LORD of a lamb of the first year without
blemish:
thou shalt prepare it every morning.
And you shall provide an
unblemished year-old lamb as a daily burnt offering to the LORD; you are to offer it every morning.
And
thou shalt prepare a meat offering for it every morning, the sixth part of an
ephah, and the third part of an
hin of oil, to temper with the fine flour; a meat offering continually by a perpetual
ordinance unto the LORD.
You are also to provide with it every morning a grain offering of a sixth of an
ephah with a third of a
hin of oil to
moisten the fine flour—a grain offering to the LORD. This is a permanent statute.
And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ancles.
As the man went eastward with a measuring line in his hand, he measured off a
thousand cubits and led me through
ankle-deep water.
Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins.
Then he measured off a
thousand cubits and led me through
knee-deep water. Again he measured a
thousand cubits and led me through
waist-deep water.
Afterward he measured a
thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to
swim in, a river that could not be passed over.
Once again he measured off a
thousand cubits, but now it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had risen and was deep enough for
swimming—a river that could not be crossed on foot.
And he said unto me, Son of man, hast
thou seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the
brink of the river.
“Son of man, do you see this?” he asked. Then he led me back to the bank of the river.
And by the border of Judah, from the east side unto the west side, shall be the offering which ye shall offer of five and twenty thousand reeds in breadth, and in length as one of the other parts, from the east side unto the west side: and the sanctuary shall be in the midst of it.
Bordering the territory of Judah, from east to west, will be the portion you are to set apart. It will be 25,000 cubits wide, and the length of a
tribal portion from east to west. In the center will be the sanctuary.
The
oblation that ye shall offer unto the LORD shall be of five and twenty
thousand in length, and of ten
thousand in breadth.
The special portion you set apart to the LORD shall be 25,000 cubits long and 10,000 cubits wide.
And for them, even for the priests, shall be this holy
oblation; toward the north five and twenty
thousand in length, and toward the west ten
thousand in breadth, and toward the east ten
thousand in breadth, and toward the south five and twenty
thousand in length: and the sanctuary of the LORD shall be in the midst thereof.
This will be the holy portion for the priests. It will be 25,000 cubits long on the north side, 10,000 cubits wide on the west side, 10,000 cubits wide on the east side, and 25,000 cubits long on the south side. In the center will be the sanctuary of the LORD.
And over against the border of the priests the Levites shall have five and twenty thousand in length, and ten thousand in breadth: all the length shall be five and twenty thousand, and the breadth ten thousand.
Bordering the territory of the priests, the Levites shall have an area 25,000 cubits long and 10,000 cubits wide. The whole length will be 25,000 cubits, and the width 10,000 cubits.
And the five
thousand, that are left in the breadth over against the five and twenty
thousand, shall be a
profane place for the city, for dwelling, and for suburbs: and the city shall be in the midst thereof.
The remaining area, 5,000 cubits wide and 25,000 cubits long, will be for common use by the city, for houses, and for pastureland. The city will be in the center of it
And these shall be the measures thereof; the north side four thousand and five hundred, and the south side four thousand and five hundred, and on the east side four thousand and five hundred, and the west side four thousand and five hundred.
and will have these measurements: 4,500 cubits on the north side, 4,500 cubits on the south side, 4,500 cubits on the east side, and 4,500 cubits on the west side.
And the residue in length over against the
oblation of the holy portion shall be ten
thousand eastward, and ten
thousand westward: and it shall be over against the
oblation of the holy portion; and the increase thereof shall be for food unto them that serve the city.
The remainder of the length bordering the holy portion and running adjacent to it will be 10,000 cubits on the east side and 10,000 cubits on the west side. Its produce will supply food for the workers of the city.
All the
oblation shall be five and twenty
thousand by five and twenty
thousand: ye shall offer the holy
oblation foursquare, with the possession of the city.
The entire portion will be a square, 25,000 cubits by 25,000 cubits. You are to set apart the holy portion, along with the city property.
And the residue shall be for the prince, on the one side and on the other of the holy
oblation, and of the possession of the city, over against the five and twenty
thousand of the
oblation toward the east border, and westward over against the five and twenty
thousand toward the west border, over against the portions for the prince: and it shall be the holy
oblation; and the sanctuary of the house shall be in the midst thereof.
The remaining area on both sides of the holy portion and of the property of the city will belong to the prince. He will own the land adjacent to the
tribal portions, extending eastward from the 25,000 cubits of the holy district toward the eastern border, and westward from the 25,000 cubits to the western border. And in the center of them will be the holy portion and the sanctuary of the temple.
And these are the goings out of the city on the north side, four thousand and five hundred measures.
“These will be the exits of the city:
And at the east side four
thousand and five hundred: and three gates; and one gate of Joseph, one gate of Benjamin, one gate of
Dan.
On the east side, which will be 4,500 cubits long, there will be three gates: the gate of Joseph, the gate of Benjamin, and the gate of
Dan.
And at the south side four
thousand and five hundred measures: and three gates; one gate of
Simeon, one gate of
Issachar, one gate of
Zebulun.
On the south side, which will be 4,500 cubits long, there will be three gates: the gate of
Simeon, the gate of
Issachar, and the gate of
Zebulun.
At the west side four
thousand and five hundred, with their three gates; one gate of
Gad, one gate of Asher, one gate of
Naphtali.
And on the west side, which will be 4,500 cubits long, there will be three gates: the gate of
Gad, the gate of Asher, and the gate of
Naphtali.
It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.
The
perimeter of the city will be 18,000 cubits, and from that day on the name of the city will be: THE LORD IS THERE.”
Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
Then compare our appearances with those of the young men who are eating the royal food, and deal with your servants according to what you see.”
I
thank thee, and praise thee, O
thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for
thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter.
To You, O God of my fathers, I give
thanks and praise, because You have given me wisdom and power. And now You have made known to me what we have requested, for You have made known to us the dream of the king.”
The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?
The king
responded to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to tell me what I saw in the dream, as well as its interpretation?”
As for thee, O king, thy
thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass
hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
As you lay on your bed, O king, your
thoughts turned to the future, and the
Revealer of Mysteries made known to you what will happen.
But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.
And to me this
mystery has been revealed, not because I have more wisdom than any man alive, but in order that the interpretation might be made known to the king, and that you may understand the
thoughts of your mind.
Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
As you, O king, were watching, a great statue appeared. A great and
dazzling statue stood before you, and its form was
awesome.
Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which
smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and
brake them to pieces.
As you watched, a stone was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay, and
crushed them.
Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
You, O king, are the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given sovereignty, power, strength, and glory.
And
wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all.
Thou art this head of gold.
Wherever the sons of men or beasts of the field or birds of the air dwell, He has given them into your hand and has made you ruler over them all. You are that head of gold.
And whereas
thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron,
forasmuch as
thou sawest the iron mixed with
miry clay.
And just as you saw that the feet and toes were made partly of fired clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom, yet some of the strength of iron will be in it—just as you saw the iron mixed with clay.
And whereas
thou sawest iron mixed with
miry clay, they shall
mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not
cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
As you saw the iron mixed with clay, so the peoples will
mix with one another, but will not hold together any more than iron mixes with clay.
Forasmuch as
thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it
brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass
hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
And just as you saw a stone being cut out of the mountain without human hands, and it
shattered the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold, so the great God has told the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation is
trustworthy.”
The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a
revealer of secrets, seeing
thou couldst
reveal this secret.
The king said to Daniel, “Your God is truly the God of gods and Lord of kings, the
Revealer of Mysteries, since you were able to
reveal this
mystery.”
Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the
cornet,
flute,
harp,
sackbut,
psaltery, and
dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:
You, O king, have issued a decree that
everyone who hears the sound of the horn,
flute,
zither,
lyre,
harp, pipes, and all kinds of music must fall down and worship the golden statue,
There are certain Jews whom
thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon,
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which
thou hast set up.
But there are some Jews you have appointed to
manage the province of Babylon—
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego—who have
ignored you, O king, and have refused to serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.”
But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.”
I
thought it good to
shew the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me.
I am pleased to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me.
I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.
I had a dream, and it
frightened me; while in my bed, the images and visions in my mind
alarmed me.
This dream I king
Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now
thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof,
forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but
thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.
This is the dream that I, King
Nebuchadnezzar, saw. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation, because none of the wise men of my kingdom can
interpret it for me. But you are able, because the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”
Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was
astonied for one hour, and his
thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that
hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.
For a time, Daniel, who was also known as Belteshazzar, was
perplexed, and his
thoughts alarmed him. So the king said, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its interpretation
alarm you.” “My lord,” replied Belteshazzar, “may the dream apply to those who
hate you, and its interpretation to your enemies!
The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;
The tree you saw that grew large and strong, whose top reached the sky and was visible to all the earth,
It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.
you, O king, are that tree! For you have become great and strong; your greatness has grown to reach the sky, and your dominion extends to the ends of the earth.
That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the
dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till
thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will.
You will be driven away from mankind, and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will feed on grass like an ox and be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.
And whereas they commanded to leave the
stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that
thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.
As for the command to leave the
stump of the tree with its roots, your kingdom will be restored to you as soon as you acknowledge that Heaven rules.
And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until
thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will.
You will be driven away from mankind to live with the beasts of the field, and you will feed on grass like an ox. And seven times will pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.”
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
All the peoples of the earth are counted as nothing, and He does as He pleases with the army of heaven and the peoples of the earth. There is no one who can restrain His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’”
Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a
thousand of his lords, and
drank wine before the
thousand.
Later, King
Belshazzar held a great feast for a
thousand of his nobles, and he
drank wine with them.
Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his
thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees
smote one against another.
his face grew pale and his
thoughts so
alarmed him that his hips gave way and his knees
knocked together.
Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the
banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy
thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:
Hearing the outcry of the king and his nobles, the queen entered the
banquet hall. “O king, may you live
forever!” she said. “Do not let your
thoughts terrify you, or your face grow pale.
Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art
thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of
Jewry?
So Daniel was brought before the king, who asked him, “Are you Daniel, one of the exiles my father the king brought from Judah?
And I have heard of thee, that
thou canst make interpretations, and
dissolve doubts: now if
thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof,
thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
But I have heard about you, that you are able to give interpretations and
solve difficult problems. Therefore, if you can read this inscription and give me its interpretation, you will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”
O
thou king, the most high God gave
Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:
As for you, O king, the Most High God gave your father
Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty and greatness, glory and honor.
And
thou his son, O
Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart,
though thou knewest all this;
But you his son, O
Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, even
though you knew all this.
But hast lifted up
thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and
thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have
drunk wine in them; and
thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast
thou not
glorified:
Instead, you have
exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. The vessels from His house were brought to you, and as you
drank wine from them with your nobles, wives, and concubines, you praised your gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you have failed to
glorify the God who holds in His hand your very breath and all your ways.
TEKEL;
Thou art
weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
TEKEL means that you have been
weighed on the scales and found deficient.
Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
Soon, by his extraordinary spirit, Daniel distinguished himself among the administrators and satraps. So the king
planned to set him over the whole kingdom.
Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
So they approached the king and asked about his royal decree: “Did you not sign a decree that for thirty days any man who petitions any god or man except you, O king, will be thrown into the den of lions?” The king replied, “According to the law of the Medes and Persians the order stands, and it cannot be
repealed.”
Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
Then they told the king, “Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, shows no regard for you, O king, or for the decree that you have signed. He still makes his petition three times a day.”
Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the den of lions. The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!”
And when he came to the den, he
cried with a
lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom
thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
When he reached the den, he
cried out in a voice of
anguish, “O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?”
A
fiery stream issued and came forth from before him:
thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten
thousand times ten
thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
A river of fire was flowing, coming out from His presence.
Thousands upon
thousands attended Him, and myriads upon myriads stood before Him. The court was
convened, and the books were opened.
Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.
Thus ends the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts troubled me greatly, and my face turned pale. But I kept the matter to myself.”
And he said unto me, Unto two
thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be
cleansed.
He said to me, “It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be properly restored.”
