And when the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at
Shiloh, to go up to
war against them.
And when they heard this, the whole congregation of Israel assembled at
Shiloh to go to
war against them.
And the thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and did not intend to go up against them in battle, to destroy the land wherein the children of
Reuben and
Gad dwelt.
The Israelites were satisfied with the report, and they blessed God and spoke no more about going to war against them to destroy the land where the Reubenites and Gadites lived.
Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and
warred against Israel, and sent and called
Balaam the son of Beor to
curse you:
Then Balak son of Zippor, the king of Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent for
Balaam son of Beor to
curse you,
Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the
wars of
Canaan;
These are the nations that the LORD left to test all the Israelites who had not known any of the
wars in
Canaan,
Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;
if only to teach warfare to the subsequent generations of Israel, especially to those who had not known it formerly:
And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to
war: and the LORD delivered Chushan-rishathaim king of
Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushan-rishathaim.
The Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he became Israel’s judge and went out to
war. And the LORD delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of
Aram into the hand of Othniel, who prevailed against him.
They chose new gods; then was
war in the gates: was there a shield or
spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?
When they chose new gods, then
war came to their gates. Not a shield or
spear was found among forty thousand in Israel.
And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of
Ammon made
war against Israel.
Some time later, when the
Ammonites fought against Israel
And it was so, that when the children of
Ammon made
war against Israel, the elders of
Gilead went to
fetch Jephthah out of the land of
Tob:
and made
war with them, the elders of
Gilead went to get
Jephthah from the land of
Tob.
Wherefore I have not
sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to
war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of
Ammon.
I have not
sinned against you, but you have done me wrong by
waging war against me. May the LORD, the Judge, decide
today between the Israelites and the
Ammonites.”
And there went from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of war.
So six hundred Danites departed from Zorah and Eshtaol, armed with weapons of war.
And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of
war, which were of the children of
Dan, stood by the entering of the gate.
The six hundred Danites stood at the entrance of the gate, armed with their weapons of war.
And the five men that went to
spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the
graven image, and the
ephod, and the
teraphim, and the
molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of
war.
And the five men who had gone to
spy out the land went inside and took the
graven image, the
ephod, the household idols, and the
molten idol, while the priest stood at the entrance of the gate with the six hundred armed men.
And the men of Israel, beside Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword: all these were men of war.
And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to
complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the
war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.
When their fathers or brothers come to us to
complain, we will tell them, ‘Do us a favor by helping them, since we did not get wives for each of them in the
war. Since you did not actually give them your daughters, you have no guilt.’”
Now therefore
hearken unto their voice:
howbeit yet
protest solemnly unto them, and
shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.
Now
listen to them, but you must solemnly
warn them and show them the manner of the king who will reign over them.”
And he will
appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over
fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to
reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of
war, and instruments of his
chariots.
He will
appoint some for himself as commanders of thousands and of
fifties, and others to
plow his ground, to
reap his harvest, to make his weapons of
war, and to
equip his
chariots.
And there was
sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any strong man, or any
valiant man, he took him unto him.
And the
war with the Philistines was fierce for all the days of Saul. So whenever he noticed any strong or
brave man, Saul would
enlist him.
And Saul said unto the
Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the
Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the
Kenites departed from among the
Amalekites.
And he
warned the
Kenites, “Since you showed kindness to all the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt, go on and get away from the
Amalekites. Otherwise I will
sweep you away with them.” So the
Kenites moved away from the
Amalekites.
Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of
Jesse the
Bethlehemite, that is
cunning in playing, and a mighty
valiant man, and a man of
war, and
prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.
One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of
Jesse of
Bethlehem who knows how to play the
harp. He is a mighty man of
valor, a
warrior,
eloquent and handsome, and the LORD is with him.”
Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.
Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war at Socoh in Judah, and they camped between Socoh and Azekah in Ephes-dammim.
And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this
Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of
war from his youth.
But Saul replied, “You cannot go out against this
Philistine to fight him. You are just a boy, and he has been a
warrior from his youth.”
And David went out
whithersoever Saul sent him, and
behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of
war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
So David marched out and
prospered in everything Saul sent him to do, and Saul set him over the men of
war. And this was pleasing in the sight of all the people, and of Saul’s officers as well.
But
Jonathan Saul’s son delighted much in David: and
Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take
heed to
thyself until the morning, and
abide in a secret place, and hide
thyself:
so he
warned David, saying, “My father Saul intends to kill you. Be on your guard in the morning; find a secret place and hide there.
And
Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not
sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-
ward very good:
Then
Jonathan spoke well of David to his father Saul and said to him, “The king should not sin against his servant David; he has not
sinned against you. In fact, his actions have been highly
beneficial to you.
And there was
war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and
slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.
When war broke out again, David went out and fought the Philistines and struck them with such a mighty blow that they fled before him.
Saul also sent messengers unto David’s house, to watch him, and to
slay him in the morning: and Michal David’s wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to
morrow thou shalt be slain.
Then Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him and kill him in the morning. But David’s wife Michal
warned him, “If you do not run for your life
tonight,
tomorrow you will be dead!”
And Saul called all the people together to
war, to go down to Keilah, to
besiege David and his men.
Then Saul summoned all his troops to go to
war at Keilah and
besiege David and his men.
And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for
warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou
assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men.
Now in those days the Philistines gathered their forces for warfare against Israel. So Achish said to David, “You must understand that you and your men are to go out to battle with me.”
And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am
sore distressed; for the Philistines make
war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.
Then Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” “I am deeply distressed,” replied Saul. “The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has turned away from me. He no longer answers me, either by prophets or by dreams. So I have called on you to tell me what to do.”
And the princes of the Philistines were
wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an
adversary to us: for
wherewith should he
reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?
But the commanders of the Philistines were
angry with Achish and told him, “Send that man back and let him return to the place you assigned him. He must not go down with us into battle only to become our
adversary during the
war. What better way for him to regain the favor of his master than with the heads of our men?
How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!
How the mighty have fallen and the weapons of war have perished!”
And
Abner said again to
Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I
smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to
Joab thy brother?
Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.
Now the
war between the house of Saul and the house of David was
protracted. And David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.
And it came to pass, while there was
war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that
Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul.
During the
war between the house of Saul and the house of David,
Abner had continued to
strengthen his position in the house of Saul.
Then Toi sent
Joram his son unto king David, to
salute him, and to
bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and
smitten him: for Hadadezer had
wars with Toi. And
Joram brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:
he sent his son
Joram to
greet King David and
bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer, who had been at
war with Toi.
Joram brought with him articles of silver and gold and bronze,
And it came to pass, after the year was
expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent
Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of
Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David
tarried still at Jerusalem.
In the spring, at the time when kings march out to
war, David sent out
Joab and his servants with the whole army of Israel. They destroyed the
Ammonites and besieged Rabbah, but David remained in Jerusalem.
And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how
Joab did, and how the people did, and how the
war prospered.
When Uriah came to him, David asked how
Joab and the troops were doing with the
war.
Then
Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the
war;
Joab sent to David a full account of the battle
And charged the
messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the
war unto the king,
and
instructed the
messenger, “When you have finished giving the king all the details of the battle,
For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be
chafed in their minds, as a bear
robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of
war, and will not
lodge with the people.
He continued, “You know your father and his men. They are mighty men, and as fierce as a wild bear
robbed of her cubs. Moreover, your father is a man of
war who will not
spend the night with the troops.
And
Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why
didst thou not
smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a
girdle.
“You just saw him!”
Joab exclaimed. “Why did you not strike him to the ground right there? I would have given you ten shekels of silver and a
warrior’s belt!”
And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in
ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in
widowhood.
When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to care for the palace, and he placed them in a house under guard. He provided for them, but he no longer
slept with them. They were confined until the day of their death, living as widows.
Moreover the Philistines had yet
war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed
faint.
Once again the Philistines
waged war against Israel, and David and his servants went down and fought against the Philistines; but David became exhausted.
He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
Now king David was old and
stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he
gat no heat.
Now King David was old and well along in years, and though they covered him with blankets, he could not keep warm.
Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her
cherish him, and let her lie in thy
bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.
So his servants said to him, “Let us search for a young virgin for our lord the king, to attend to him and care for him and lie by his side to keep him warm.”
Moreover thou knowest also what
Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, unto
Abner the son of
Ner, and unto
Amasa the son of Jether, whom he
slew, and shed the blood of
war in peace, and put the blood of
war upon his
girdle that was about his loins, and in his
shoes that were on his feet.
Moreover, you know what
Joab son of Zeruiah did to me—what he did to
Abner son of
Ner and
Amasa son of Jether, the two commanders of the armies of Israel. He killed them in peacetime to
avenge the blood of
war. He
stained with the blood of
war the belt around his
waist and the
sandals on his feet.
And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not make thee to
swear by the LORD, and
protested unto thee, saying, Know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any
whither, that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, The word that I have heard is good.
the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Did I not make you
swear by the LORD and
warn you, ‘On the day you leave and go elsewhere, know for sure that you will die’? And you told me, ‘The sentence is fair; I will
comply.’
Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
“As you are well aware, due to the
wars waged on all sides against my father David, he could not build a house for the Name of the LORD his God until the LORD had put his enemies under his feet.
If thy people go out to battle against their enemy,
whithersoever thou shalt send them, and shall pray unto the LORD toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house that I have built for thy name:
When Your people go to war against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to the LORD in the direction of the city You have chosen and the house I have built for Your Name,
But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no
bondmen: but they were men of
war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his
chariots, and his
horsemen.
But Solomon did not
consign any of the Israelites to slavery, because they were his men of
war, his servants, his officers, his captains, and the commanders of his
chariots and cavalry.
And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded.
Although He had
warned Solomon
explicitly not to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the LORD’s command.
And when
Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and
fourscore thousand chosen men, which were
warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to
Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
And when
Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he
mobilized the whole house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin—180,000 chosen
warriors—to fight against the house of Israel and restore the kingdom to
Rehoboam son of Solomon.
And the rest of the acts of
Jeroboam, how he
warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
As for the rest of the acts of
Jeroboam, how he
waged war and how he reigned, they are indeed written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
And there was
war between the houses of
Rehoboam and
Jeroboam all the days of Abijam’s life.
Now the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was
war between Abijam and
Jeroboam.
As for the rest of the acts of Abijam, along with all his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? And there was
war between Abijam and
Jeroboam.
And there was
war between
Asa and
Baasha king of Israel all their days.
Now there was
war between
Asa and
Baasha king of Israel throughout their days.
And
Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built
Ramah, that he might not suffer any to go out or come in to
Asa king of Judah.
Baasha king of Israel went to
war against Judah and fortified
Ramah to prevent
anyone from leaving or entering the territory of
Asa king of Judah.
And there was
war between
Asa and
Baasha king of Israel all their days.
And there was
war between
Asa and
Baasha king of Israel throughout their days.
And Ben-
hadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and
chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and
warred against it.
Now Ben-
hadad king of
Aram assembled his entire army. Accompanied by thirty-two kings with their horses and
chariots, he marched up, besieged Samaria, and
waged war against it.
And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.
“If they have marched out in peace,” he said, “take them alive. Even if they have marched out for war, take them alive.”
And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.
Then three years passed without
war between
Aram and Israel.
Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against
Ramoth-
gilead to battle, or shall I
forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
So the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and asked them, “Should I go to
war against
Ramoth-
gilead, or should I
refrain?” “Go up,” they replied, “and the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against
Ramoth-
gilead to battle, or shall we
forbear? And he answered him, Go, and
prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
When Micaiah arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to
war against
Ramoth-
gilead, or should we
refrain?” “Go up and triumph,” Micaiah replied, “for the LORD will give it into the hand of the king.”
Now the rest of the acts of
Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he
warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of
Jehoshaphat, along with the might he exercised and how he
waged war, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

warm.

warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.
Now the king of
Aram was at
war against Israel. After
consulting with his servants, he said, “My camp will be in such and such a place.”
And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and
warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.
So the king of Israel sent word to the place the man of God had pointed out. Time and again
Elisha warned the king, so that he was on his guard in such places.
And
Jehu said to the keeper of the
wardrobe, “Bring out garments for all the servants of
Baal.” So he brought out garments for them.
And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings,
Jehu appointed
fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
And they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now
Jehu had stationed eighty men outside and
warned them, “If
anyone allows one of the men I am delivering into your hands to escape, he will
forfeit his life for theirs.”
And the rest of the acts of
Joash, and all that he did, and his might
wherewith he fought against
Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
As for the rest of the acts of Jehoash, along with all his accomplishments and his might, including his
war against
Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
And Jehoash the son of
Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben-
hadad the son of
Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of
Jehoahaz his father by
war. Three times did
Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
Then Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz took back from Ben-
hadad son of
Hazael the cities that
Hazael had taken in battle from his father
Jehoahaz. Jehoash defeated Ben-
hadad three times, and so recovered the cities of Israel.
He
slew of
Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took
Selah by
war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.
Amaziah struck down 10,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. He took Sela in battle and called it Joktheel, which is its name to this very day.
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with
Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
As for the rest of the acts of Jehoash, along with his accomplishments, his might, and how he
waged war against
Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Now the rest of the acts of
Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he
warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and
Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
As for the rest of the acts of
Jeroboam, along with all his accomplishments and might, and how he
waged war and recovered both Damascus and
Hamath for Israel from Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to
war: and they besieged
Ahaz, but could not overcome him.
Then Rezin king of
Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to
wage war against Jerusalem. They besieged
Ahaz but could not overcome him.
Yet the LORD
testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.
Yet through all His prophets and seers, the LORD
warned Israel and Judah, saying, “Turn from your wicked ways and keep My commandments and statutes, according to the entire Law that I commanded your fathers and delivered to you through My servants the prophets.”
Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the
war. Now on whom
dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
You claim to have a
strategy and strength for
war, but these are empty words. In whom are you now trusting, that you have rebelled against me?
So
Rab-shakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria
warring against
Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from
Lachish.
When the
Rabshakeh heard that the king of Assyria had left
Lachish, he withdrew and found the king fighting against
Libnah.
And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of
Ethiopia, Behold, he is come out to fight against thee: he sent messengers again unto
Hezekiah, saying,
So Hilkiah the priest, and
Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the
wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.
So Hilkiah the priest,
Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went and spoke to Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, the keeper of the
wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem, in the Second District.
And all the men of might, even seven thousand, and
craftsmen and smiths a thousand, all that were strong and apt for
war, even them the king of Babylon brought
captive to Babylon.
The king of Babylon also brought into exile to Babylon all seven thousand men of
valor and a thousand
craftsmen and metalsmiths—all strong and fit for battle.
And the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled by night by the way of the gate between two walls, which is by the king’s garden: (now the Chaldees were against the city round about:) and the king went the way toward the plain.
Then the city was breached; and though the Chaldeans had surrounded the city, all the men of war fled by night by way of the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden. They headed toward the Arabah,
And out of the city he took an officer that was set over the men of
war, and five men of them that were in the king’s presence, which were found in the city, and the principal
scribe of the host, which
mustered the people of the land, and
threescore men of the people of the land that were found in the city:
Of those still in the city, he took a court official who had been appointed over the men of
war, as well as five royal advisors. He also took the
scribe of the captain of the army, who had
enlisted the people of the land, and sixty men who were found in the city.
And in the days of Saul they made
war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of
Gilead.
During the days of Saul they
waged war against the Hagrites, who were defeated at their hands, and they occupied the homes of the Hagrites throughout the region east of
Gilead.
The sons of
Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of
Manasseh, of
valiant men, men able to bear
buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in
war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and
threescore, that went out to the
war.
The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh had 44,760
warriors—
valiant men who carried the shield and sword, drew the bow, and were trained for battle.
And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab.
They
waged war against the Hagrites, as well as Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.
For there fell down many slain, because the war was of God. And they dwelt in their steads until the captivity.
and many others fell slain, because the battle belonged to God. And they occupied the land until the exile.
And with them, by their generations, after the house of their fathers, were bands of soldiers for war, six and thirty thousand men: for they had many wives and sons.
