The Lord GOD hath
sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I
abhor the
excellency of Jacob, and
hate his palaces: therefore
will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.
The Lord GOD has
sworn by Himself—the LORD, the God of Hosts, has declared: “I
abhor Jacob’s pride and
detest his citadels, so I
will deliver up the city and everything in it.”
And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.
And if there are ten men left in one house, they too will die.
And a man’s uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.
And when the relative who is to burn the bodies picks them up to remove them from the house, he
will call to one inside, “Is
anyone else with you?” “None,” that person
will answer. “Silence,” the relative
will retort, “for the name of the LORD must not be
invoked.”
For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he
will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.
For the LORD gives a command: “The great house
will be
smashed to pieces, and the small house to
rubble.”
Shall horses run upon the rock?
will one
plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into
hemlock:
“Do horses
gallop on the cliffs? Does one
plow the sea with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into
wormwood—
But, behold, I
will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall
afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.
For behold, I
will raise up a nation against you, O house of Israel,” declares the LORD, the God of Hosts, “and they
will oppress you from Lebo-
hamath to the
Brook of the Arabah.”
And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD,
forgive, I
beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
And when the locusts had eaten every green plant in the land, I said, “Lord GOD, please
forgive! How
will Jacob
survive, since he is so small?”
The LORD
repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD.
So the LORD relented from this plan. “It will not happen,” He said.
Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I
beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
Then I said, “Lord GOD, please stop! How
will Jacob
survive, since he is so small?”
The LORD
repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD.
So the LORD relented from this plan. “It will not happen either,” said the Lord GOD.
And the LORD said unto me,
Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I
will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I
will not again pass by them any more:
“
Amos, what do you see?” asked the LORD. “A
plumb line,” I replied. “Behold,” said the Lord, “I am setting a
plumb line among My people Israel; I
will no longer
spare them:
And the high places of Isaac shall be
desolate, and the
sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I
will rise against the house of
Jeroboam with the sword.
The high places of Isaac
will be deserted, and the
sanctuaries of Israel
will be laid waste; and I
will rise up against the house of
Jeroboam with My sword.”
For thus
Amos saith,
Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away
captive out of their own land.
for this is what
Amos has said: ‘
Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel
will surely go into exile, away from their homeland.’”
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife shall be an
harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a
polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘Your wife
will become a
prostitute in the city, and your sons and daughters
will fall by the sword. Your land
will be divided by a measuring line, and you
yourself will die on pagan soil. And Israel
will surely go into exile, away from their homeland.’”
And he said,
Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A
basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I
will not again pass by them any more.
“
Amos, what do you see?” He asked. “A
basket of summer fruit,” I replied. So the LORD said to me, “The end has come for My people Israel; I
will no longer
spare them.”
And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.
“In that day,” declares the Lord GOD, “the songs of the temple
will turn to
wailing. Many
will be the corpses,
strewn in silence everywhere!”
Saying, When
will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the
ephah small, and the
shekel great, and
falsifying the balances by
deceit?
asking, “When
will the New Moon be over, that we may sell grain? When
will the Sabbath end, that we may market wheat? Let us reduce the
ephah and increase the
shekel; let us
cheat with
dishonest scales.
The LORD has
sworn by the Pride of Jacob: “I
will never
forget any of their deeds.
Shall not the land
tremble for this, and every one
mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and
drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
Will not the land
quake for this, and all its dwellers
mourn? All of it
will swell like the Nile; it
will surge and then
subside like the Nile in Egypt.
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I
will cause the sun to go down at
noon, and I
will darken the earth in the clear day:
And in that day, declares the Lord GOD, I
will make the sun go down at
noon, and I
will darken the earth in the
daytime.
And I
will turn your feasts into
mourning, and all your songs into
lamentation; and I
will bring up
sackcloth upon all loins, and
baldness upon every head; and I
will make it as the
mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I
will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a
thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord GOD, when I
will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or a
thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.
And they shall
wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and
fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
People
will stagger from sea to sea and
roam from north to east, seeking the word of the LORD, but they
will not find it.
In that day shall the fair virgins and young men
faint for
thirst.
In that day the lovely young women— the young men as well—
will faint from
thirst.
They that
swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O
Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beer-
sheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
Those who
swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, ‘As surely as your god lives, O
Dan,’ or, ‘As surely as the way of
Beersheba lives’— they
will fall, never to rise again.”
I saw the LORD standing upon the altar: and he said,
Smite the
lintel of the door, that the posts may
shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I
will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not
flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered.
I saw the Lord standing beside the altar, and He said: “Strike the tops of the pillars so that the thresholds
shake.
Topple them on the heads of all the people, and I
will kill the rest with the sword. None of those who
flee will get away; none of the fugitives
will escape.
Though they
dig into
hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they
climb up to heaven, thence
will I bring them down:
Though they
dig down to
Sheol, from there My hand
will take them; and though they
climb up to heaven, from there I
will pull them down.
And though they hide themselves in the top of
Carmel, I
will search and take them out thence; and though they be
hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence
will I command the serpent, and he shall
bite them:
Though they hide themselves
atop Carmel, there I
will track them and seize them; and though they hide from Me at the bottom of the sea, there I
will command the serpent to
bite them.
And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence
will I command the sword, and it shall
slay them: and I
will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.
Though they are driven by their enemies into captivity, there I
will command the sword to
slay them. I
will fix My eyes upon them for
harm and not for good.”
Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.
Surely the eyes of the Lord GOD are on the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth. Yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” declares the LORD.
For, lo, I
will command, and I
will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is
sifted in a
sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.
“For surely I
will give the command, and I
will shake the house of Israel among all the nations as grain is
sifted in a
sieve; but not a
pebble will reach the ground.
All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us.
All the sinners among My people
will die by the sword— all those who say, ‘
Disaster will never draw near or
confront us.’”
In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:
“In that day I will restore the fallen tent of David. I will repair its gaps, restore its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old,
That they may possess the
remnant of
Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this.
that they may possess the
remnant of
Edom and all the nations that bear My name,” declares the LORD, who
will do this.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the
plowman shall overtake the
reaper, and the
treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall
melt.
“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when the
plowman will overtake the
reaper and the
treader of grapes, the
sower of seed. The mountains
will drip with sweet wine, with which all the hills
will flow.
And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
I will restore My people Israel from captivity; they will rebuild and inhabit the ruined cities. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit.
And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.
I will firmly plant them in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land that I have given them,” says the LORD your God.
Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly
despised.
“Behold, I
will make you small among the nations; you
will be deeply
despised.
Though thou
exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence
will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.
Though you
soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, even from there I
will bring you down,” declares the LORD.
If
thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have
stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?
“If
thieves came to you, if robbers by night— oh, how you
will be ruined— would they not
steal only what they wanted? If
grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleanings?
How are the things of
Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!
But how
Esau will be
pillaged, his hidden treasures sought out!
All the men of thy
confederacy have brought thee even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have
deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him.
All the men allied with you
will drive you to the border; the men at peace with you
will deceive and overpower you. Those who eat your bread
will set a
trap for you without your awareness of it.
Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of
Edom, and understanding out of the mount of
Esau?
In that day, declares the LORD,
will I not destroy the wise men of
Edom and the men of understanding in the mountains of
Esau?
And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of
Esau may be cut off by slaughter.
Then your mighty men, O Teman,
will be
terrified, so that
everyone in the mountains of
Esau will be cut down in the slaughter.
For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you
will be covered with shame and cut off
forever.
For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.
For the Day of the LORD is near for all the nations. As you have done, it
will be done to you; your
recompense will return upon your own head.
For as ye have
drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually,
yea, they shall drink, and they shall
swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.
For as you
drank on My holy mountain, so all the nations
will drink continually. They
will drink and
gulp it down; they
will be as if they had never existed.
But upon mount
Zion shall be
deliverance, and there shall be
holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
But on Mount
Zion there
will be
deliverance, and it
will be holy, and the house of Jacob
will reclaim their possession.
And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of
Esau for
stubble, and they shall
kindle in them, and
devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of
Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.
Then the house of Jacob
will be a
blazing fire, and the house of Joseph a burning flame; but the house of
Esau will be
stubble— Jacob
will set it
ablaze and
consume it. Therefore no
survivor will remain from the house of
Esau.” For the LORD has spoken.
And they of the south shall possess the mount of
Esau; and they of the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess
Gilead.
Those from the Negev
will possess the mountains of
Esau; those from the foothills
will possess the land of the Philistines. They
will occupy the fields of Ephraim and Samaria, and Benjamin
will possess
Gilead.
And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the
Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.
And the exiles of this host of the Israelites
will possess the land of the
Canaanites as far as Zarephath; and the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad
will possess the cities of the Negev.
And saviours shall come up on mount
Zion to judge the mount of
Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.
The deliverers
will ascend Mount
Zion to rule over the mountains of
Esau. And the kingdom
will belong to the LORD.
So the
shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God
will think upon us, that we perish not.
The captain approached him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call upon your God. Perhaps this God will consider us, so that we may not perish.”
Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
At this, I said, ‘I have been banished from Your sight; yet I will look once more toward Your holy temple.’
But I
will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of
thanksgiving; I
will pay that that I have
vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
But I, with the voice of
thanksgiving,
will sacrifice to You. I
will fulfill what I have
vowed. Salvation is from the LORD!”
And
Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he
cried, and said, Yet forty days, and
Nineveh shall be overthrown.
On the first day of his journey,
Jonah set out into the city and proclaimed, “Forty more days and
Nineveh will be overturned!”
Who can tell if God
will turn and
repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
Who knows? God may turn and relent; He may turn from His fierce anger, so that we will not perish.”
For, behold, the LORD cometh forth out of his place, and
will come down, and
tread upon the high places of the earth.
For behold, the LORD comes forth from His dwelling place; He
will come down and
tread on the high places of the earth.
And the mountains shall be
molten under him, and the valleys shall be
cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place.
The mountains
will melt beneath Him, and the valleys
will split apart, like wax before the fire, like water
rushing down a slope.
Therefore I
will make Samaria as an
heap of the field, and as plantings of a
vineyard: and I
will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I
will discover the foundations thereof.
Therefore I
will make Samaria a
heap of
rubble in the open field, a planting area for a
vineyard. I
will pour her stones into the valley and
expose her foundations.
And all the
graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the
hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof
will I lay
desolate: for she gathered it of the
hire of an
harlot, and they shall return to the
hire of an
harlot.
All her carved images
will be
smashed to pieces; all her wages
will be burned in the fire, and I
will destroy all her idols. Since she collected the wages of a
prostitute, they
will be used again on a
prostitute.
Pass ye away, thou inhabitant of Saphir, having thy shame naked: the inhabitant of Zaanan came not forth in the
mourning of Beth-ezel; he shall receive of you his standing.
Depart in shameful nakedness, O dwellers of Shaphir. The dwellers of Zaanan
will not come out. Beth-ezel is in
mourning; its support is taken from you.
Therefore shalt thou give presents to Moresheth-
gath: the houses of
Achzib shall be a lie to the kings of Israel.
Yet
will I bring an heir unto thee, O inhabitant of Mareshah: he shall come unto
Adullam the glory of Israel.
I
will again bring a conqueror against you, O dweller of Mareshah. The glory of Israel
will come to
Adullam.
Make thee
bald, and
poll thee for thy delicate children;
enlarge thy
baldness as the eagle; for they are gone into captivity from thee.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I
devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go
haughtily: for this time is evil.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “I am
planning against this nation a
disaster from which you cannot free your necks. Then you
will not walk so proudly, for it
will be a time of
calamity.
In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and
lament with a
doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly
spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields.
In that day they
will take up a
proverb against you and
taunt you with this bitter
lamentation: ‘We are utterly ruined! He has changed the portion of my people. How He has removed it from me! He has
allotted our fields to traitors.’”
Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD.
Therefore, you will have no one in the assembly of the LORD to divide the land by lot.
“Do not
preach,” they
preach. “Do not
preach these things; disgrace
will not overtake us.”
If a man walking in the spirit and
falsehood do lie, saying, I
will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.
If a man of wind were to come and say falsely, “I
will preach to you of wine and strong drink,” he would be just the preacher for this people!
I
will surely
assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I
will surely gather the
remnant of Israel; I
will put them together as the sheep of
Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.
I
will surely gather all of you, O Jacob; I
will collect the
remnant of Israel. I
will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in the midst of its pasture— a
noisy throng.
The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.
One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate, and go out by it. Their King will pass through before them, the LORD as their leader.
Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he
will not hear them: he
will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have
behaved themselves ill in their doings.
Then they will cry out to the LORD, but He will not answer them. At that time He will hide His face from them because of the evil they have done.
Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.
Therefore night
will come over you without visions, and darkness without
divination. The sun
will set on these prophets, and the
daylight will turn black over them.
Then shall the seers be
ashamed, and the diviners confounded:
yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.
Then the seers
will be
ashamed and the diviners
will be disgraced. They
will all cover their mouths because there is no answer from God.”
The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for
hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet
will they
lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? none evil can come upon us.
Her leaders judge for a
bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets practice
divination for money. Yet they
lean upon the LORD, saying, “Is not the LORD among us? No
disaster can come upon us.”
Therefore shall
Zion for your sake be
plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.
Therefore, because of you,
Zion will be
plowed like a field, Jerusalem
will become a
heap of
rubble, and the temple mount a wooded ridge.
But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be
exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
In the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the chief of the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and the peoples will stream to it.
And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he
will teach us of his ways, and we
will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of
Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And many nations
will come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He
will teach us His ways, so that we may walk in His paths.” For the law
will go forth from
Zion and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And he shall judge among many people, and
rebuke strong nations
afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Then He
will judge between many peoples and
arbitrate for strong nations far and wide. Then they
will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into
pruning hooks. Nation
will no longer take up the sword against nation, nor
will they train anymore for war.
But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.
And each man
will sit under his own vine and under his own fig tree, with no one to
frighten him. For the mouth of the LORD of Hosts has spoken.
For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.
Though each of the peoples may walk in the name of his god, yet we
will walk in the name of the LORD our God
forever and ever.
In that day, saith the LORD,
will I
assemble her that halteth, and I
will gather her that is driven out, and her that I have
afflicted;
“On that day,” declares the LORD, “I
will gather the
lame; I
will assemble the outcast, even those whom I have
afflicted.
And I
will make her that
halted a
remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in mount
Zion from henceforth, even for ever.
And I
will make the
lame into a
remnant, and the outcast into a strong nation. Then the LORD
will rule over them in Mount
Zion from that day and
forever.
And thou, O tower of the flock, the strong hold of the daughter of
Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.
And you, O
watchtower of the flock, O
stronghold of the Daughter of
Zion— the former dominion
will be restored to you; sovereignty
will come to the Daughter of Jerusalem.”
Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of
Zion, like a woman in
travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall
redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.
Writhe in
agony, O Daughter of
Zion, like a woman in labor. For now you
will leave the city and camp in the open fields. You
will go to Babylon; there you
will be
rescued; there the LORD
will redeem you from the hand of your enemies!
Arise and
thresh, O daughter of
Zion: for I
will make thine horn iron, and I
will make thy
hoofs brass: and thou shalt beat in pieces many people: and I
will consecrate their gain unto the LORD, and their substance unto the Lord of the whole earth.
Rise and
thresh, O Daughter of
Zion, for I
will give you horns of iron and
hooves of bronze to break to pieces many peoples. Then you
will devote their gain to the LORD, their wealth to the Lord of all the earth.
Now gather
thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall
smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the
cheek.
Now, O daughter of troops,
mobilize your troops; for a siege is laid against us! With a rod they
will strike the
cheek of the judge of Israel.
But thou,
Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from
everlasting.
But you,
Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are small among the clans of Judah, out of you
will come forth for Me One to be ruler over Israel— One whose origins are of old, from the days of
eternity.
Therefore
will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the
remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
Therefore Israel will be abandoned until she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of His brothers will return to the children of Israel.
And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall
abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
He
will stand and
shepherd His flock in the strength of the LORD, in the
majestic name of the LORD His God. And they
will dwell securely, for then His greatness
will extend to the ends of the earth.
And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall
tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven
shepherds, and eight principal men.
And He
will be our peace when Assyria invades our land and tramples our citadels. We
will raise against it seven
shepherds, even eight leaders of men.
And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of
Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
And they
will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of
Nimrod with the
blade drawn. So He
will deliver us when Assyria invades our land and marches into our borders.
And the
remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a
dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.
Then the
remnant of Jacob
will be in the midst of many peoples like
dew from the LORD, like showers on the grass, which do not wait for man or
linger for mankind.
And the
remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
Then the
remnant of Jacob
will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep, which tramples and tears as it passes through, with no one to
rescue them.
Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine
adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.
Your hand will be lifted over your foes, and all your enemies will be cut off.
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I
will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I
will destroy thy
chariots:
“In that day,” declares the LORD, “I
will remove your horses from among you and
wreck your
chariots.
And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:
I
will remove the cities of your land and
tear down all your strongholds.
And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:
I
will cut the
sorceries from your hand, and you
will have no fortune-tellers.
