wood but not light the fire.

wood in order, and cut the
bullock in pieces, and laid him on the
wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the

turquoise, stones of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and slabs of marble—all in abundance.

Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in
crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every
device which shall be put to him, with thy
cunning men, and with the
cunning men of my lord David thy father.
He is the son of a woman from the daughters of
Dan, and his father is a man of Tyre. He is skilled in work with gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and
wood, purple, blue, and
crimson yarn, and fine linen. He is experienced in every kind of engraving and can
execute any design that is given him. He will work with your
craftsmen and with those of my lord, your father David.
And we will cut
wood out of
Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee in flotes by sea to

float them to you as rafts by sea down to
Joppa. Then you can take them up to Jerusalem.”

And
Ezra the
scribe stood upon a
pulpit of
wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana,

scribe stood on a high
wooden platform built for this occasion. At his right side stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, and at his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum,
Hash-baddanah,
Zechariah, and Meshullam.
And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, after the houses of our fathers, at times appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the law:
We have cast lots among the priests, Levites, and people for the
donation of
wood by our families at the appointed times each year. They are to bring it to the house of our God to burn on the altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the Law.
And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.
I also arranged for contributions of wood at the appointed times, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, with favor.

rotten wood.

wood rejoiceLet the fields
exult, and all that is in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy
Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.
We heard that the ark was in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar.
Our bones are scattered at the grave’s mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth.
As when one plows and breaks up the soil, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of
Sheol.
He giveth snow like
wool: he scattereth the
hoar frost like ashes.
He spreads the snow like
wool; He scatters the
frost like ashes;
Where no
wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no
talebearer, the
strife ceaseth.
Without
wood, a fire goes out; without
gossip, a conflict ceases.
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.
I made me pools of water, to water
therewith the
wood that bringeth forth trees:
I built reservoirs to water my groves of flourishing trees.
The one who
quarries stones may be injured by them, and he who splits logs endangers himself.
As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

King Solomon has made his carriage out of the timber of
Lebanon.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like
crimson, they shall be as
wool.

crimson, they will become like
wool.
And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is
confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the
wood are moved with the wind.
When it was reported to the house of David that
Aram was in league with Ephraim, the hearts of
Ahaz and his people
trembled like trees in the forest
shaken by the wind.
Shall the
axe boast itself against him that heweth
therewith? or shall the saw
magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should
shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no
wood.
Does an
axe raise itself above the one who swings it? Does a saw
boast over him who saws with it? It would be like a rod waving the one who lifts it, or a staff lifting him who is not
wood!
Yea, the
fir trees
rejoice at thee, and the cedars of
Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.
For
Tophet is ordained of old;
yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much
wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of
brimstone,
doth kindle it.
For Topheth has long been prepared; it has been made ready for the king. Its funeral
pyre is deep and wide, with
plenty of fire and
wood. The breath of the LORD, like a
torrent of burning sulfur, sets it
ablaze.
And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
They have cast their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods, but only wood and stone—the work of human hands.
The
carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.
The
woodworker extends a measuring line; he marks it out with a
stylus; he shapes it with chisels and outlines it with a compass. He fashions it in the likeness of man, like man in all his glory, that it may dwell in a
shrine.
And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire;
yea, also I have
baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have
roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an
abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
And no one considers in his heart, no one has the knowledge or insight to say, “I burned half of it in the fire, and I
baked bread on its coals; I
roasted meat and I
ate. Shall I make something
detestable with the rest of it? Shall I bow down to a block of
wood?”
Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the
wood of their
graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.
Come, gather together, and draw near, you fugitives from the nations. Ignorant are those who carry idols of wood and pray to a god that cannot save.
For the
moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like
wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.
For the
moth will
devour them like a garment, and the worm will eat them like
wool. But My righteousness will last
forever, My salvation through all generations.”
For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.
Instead of bronze I will bring you gold; I will bring silver in place of iron, bronze instead of
wood, and iron instead of stones. I will
appoint peace as your governor and righteousness as your ruler.
Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people
wood, and it shall
devour them.
Therefore this is what the LORD God of Hosts says: “Because you have spoken this word, I will make My words a fire in your mouth and this people the wood it consumes.
The children gather
wood, and the fathers
kindle the fire, and the women
knead their
dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may
provoke me to anger.
The sons gather
wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women
knead the
dough to make cakes for the Queen of Heaven; they pour out drink offerings to other gods to
provoke Me to anger.
But they are altogether senseless and
foolish,
instructed by worthless idols made of
wood!
Micah the Morasthite
prophesied in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts;
Zion shall be
plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
“
Micah the Moreshite
prophesied in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah and told all the people of Judah that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘
Zion will be
plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a
heap of
rubble, and the temple mount a
wooded ridge.’
Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast broken the yokes of wood; but thou shalt make for them yokes of iron.
“Go and tell Hananiah that this is what the LORD says: ‘You have broken a yoke of wood, but in its place you have fashioned a yoke of iron.’
The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.
Egypt will hiss like a
fleeing serpent, for the enemy will advance in force; with axes they will come against her like
woodsmen cutting down trees.
We have
drunken our water for money; our
wood is sold unto us.
We must
buy the water we drink; our
wood comes at a price.
They took the young men to
grind, and the children fell under the
wood.
Young men
toil at millstones; boys
stagger under loads of
wood.
Son of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?
“Son of man, how does the
wood of the vine
surpass any other branch among the trees in the forest?
Shall
wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to
hang any vessel
thereon?
Can
wood be taken from it to make something useful? Or can one make from it a
peg on which to
hang utensils?
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Like the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so I will give up the people of Jerusalem.
And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.
When you say, ‘Let us be like the nations, like the peoples of the lands, serving wood and stone,’ what you have in mind will never come to pass.
Pile on the logs and
kindle the fire;
cook the meat well and
mix in the spices; let the bones be burned.
Of the oaks of
Bashan have they made thine oars; the company of the Ashurites have made thy
benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of
Chittim.
Of oaks from
Bashan they made your oars; of
wood from the coasts of
Cyprus they made your deck, inlaid with ivory.
Damascus was thy merchant in the multitude of the wares of thy making, for the multitude of all riches; in the wine of Helbon, and white wool.
Because of your many products and your great wealth of goods, Damascus traded with you wine from Helbon, wool from Zahar,
Ye eat the fat, and ye
clothe you with the
wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock.
You eat the fat, wear the
wool, and
butcher the
fattened sheep, but you do not feed the flock.
And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.
I will make with them a covenant of peace and rid the land of wild animals, so that they may dwell securely in the wilderness and sleep in the forest.
So that they shall take no
wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall
spoil those that
spoiled them, and
rob those that
robbed them, saith the Lord GOD.
They will not gather
wood from the
countryside or cut it from the forests, for they will use the weapons for fuel. They will
loot those who
looted them and
plunder those who
plundered them, declares the Lord GOD.
The door posts, and the narrow windows, and the
galleries round about on their three stories, over against the door, cieled with
wood round about, and from the ground up to the windows, and the windows were covered;
as well as the thresholds and the
beveled windows and the
galleries all around with their three levels opposite the
threshold, were overlaid with
wood on all sides. They were
paneled from the ground to the windows, and the windows were covered.
The altar of wood was three cubits high, and the length thereof two cubits; and the corners thereof, and the length thereof, and the walls thereof, were of wood: and he said unto me, This is the table that is before the LORD.
There was an altar of wood three cubits high and two cubits square. Its corners, base, and sides were of wood. And the man told me, “This is the table that is before the LORD.”
And there were made on them, on the doors of the temple, cherubims and palm trees, like as were made upon the walls; and there were thick planks upon the face of the
porch without.
Cherubim and palm trees like those on the walls were carved on the doors of the outer sanctuary, and there was a
wooden canopy outside, on the front of the
portico.
And it shall come to pass, that when they enter in at the gates of the inner court, they shall be clothed with linen garments; and no wool shall come upon them, whiles they minister in the gates of the inner court, and within.
When they enter the gates of the inner court, they are to wear linen garments; they must not wear anything made of wool when they minister at the gates of the inner court or inside the temple.
They
drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of
wood, and of stone.
As they
drank the wine, they praised their gods of gold and silver, bronze and iron,
wood and stone.
But hast lifted up
thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have
drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron,
wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not
glorified:
Instead, you have
exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. The vessels from His house were brought to you, and as you
drank wine from them with your nobles, wives, and concubines, you praised your gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron,
wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you have failed to
glorify the God who holds in His hand your very breath and all your ways.
I
beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure
wool: his throne was like the
fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
As I continued to watch, thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took His seat. His clothing was white as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure
wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all
ablaze.
For their mother hath played the
harlot: she that conceived them hath done
shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my
wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.
For their mother has played the
harlot and has conceived them in disgrace. For she thought, ‘I will go after my lovers, who give me bread and water,
wool and linen, oil and drink.’
Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.
Therefore I will take back My grain in its time and My new wine in its season; I will take away My wool and linen, which were given to cover her nakedness.
My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to
err, and they have gone a
whoring from under their God.
My people
consult their
wooden idols, and their divining rods inform them. For a spirit of
prostitution leads them
astray and they have played the
harlot against their God.
It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be
ashamed of his own counsel.
Yes, it will be carried to Assyria as tribute to the great king. Ephraim will be seized with shame; Israel will be
ashamed of its
wooden idols.
Therefore shall
Zion for your sake be
plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.
Therefore, because of you,
Zion will be
plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a
heap of
rubble, and the temple mount a
wooded ridge.
Shepherd with Your staff Your people, the flock of Your inheritance. They live alone in a
woodland, surrounded by pastures. Let them
graze in
Bashan and
Gilead, as in the days of old.
For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.
For the stones will cry out from the wall, and the rafters will
echo it from the
woodwork.
Woe unto him that saith to the
wood,
Awake; to the
dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
Woe to him who says to
wood, ‘
Awake!’ or to silent stone, ‘Arise!’ Can it give guidance? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, yet there is no breath in it at all.”
Go up to the mountain, and bring
wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be
glorified, saith the LORD.
Go up into the hills, bring down
lumber, and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be
glorified, says the LORD.
In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an
hearth of fire among the
wood, and like a
torch of fire in a
sheaf; and they shall
devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.
On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a
firepot in a
woodpile, like a flaming
torch among the
sheaves; they will
consume all the peoples around them on the right and on the left, while the people of Jerusalem remain secure there.
Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones,
wood, hay,
stubble;
If
anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones,
wood, hay, or straw,
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
A large house contains not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay. Some indeed are for honorable use, but others are for common use.
For when Moses had spoken every
precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of
calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet
wool, and
hyssop, and
sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
For when Moses had proclaimed every commandment of the law to all the people, he took the blood of
calves and goats, along with water, scarlet
wool, and
hyssop, and
sprinkled the
scroll and all the people,
His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
The hair of His head was white like
wool, as white as snow, and His eyes were like a
blazing fire.
And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet
repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of
wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
Now the rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not
repent of the works of their hands. They did not stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and
wood, which cannot see or hear or walk.
The
merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine
wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious
wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
cargo of gold, silver, precious stones, and pearls; of fine linen, purple, silk, and scarlet; of all kinds of
citron wood and every article of ivory, precious
wood, bronze, iron, and marble;
He wrote letters also unto the lieutenants that were in Celosyria and Phenice, and unto them in Libanus, that they should bring
cedar wood from Libanus unto Jerusalem, and that they should build the city with him.
Whose height shall be sixty cubits and the breadth sixty cubits, with three rows of
hewn stones, and one row of new
wood of that country; and the expences thereof to be given out of the house of king Cyrus:
And
Esdras the priest and reader of the law stood up upon a
pulpit of
wood, which was made for that purpose.
And said, Come, let us go and make war against the sea that it may depart away before us, and that we may make us more woods.
The floods of the sea also in like manner took counsel, and said, Come, let us go up and
subdue the
woods of the plain, that there also we may make us another country.
The thought of the wood was in vain, for the fire came and consumed it.
I answered and said,
Verily it is a
foolish thought that they both have devised, for the ground is given unto the
wood, and the sea also hath his place to bear his floods.
For like as the ground is given unto the wood, and the sea to his floods: even so they that dwell upon the earth may understand nothing but that which is upon the earth: and he that dwelleth above the heavens may only understand the things that are above the height of the heavens.
And blood shall drop out of wood, and the stone shall give his voice, and the people shall be troubled:
