The LORD shall
smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme
burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with
mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.
The LORD will strike you with wasting disease, with fever and inflammation, with
scorching heat and
drought, and with
blight and
mildew; these will pursue you until you perish.
The LORD will not
spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall
blot out his name from under heaven.
The LORD will never be willing to
forgive him. Instead, His anger and jealousy will
burn against that man, and every
curse written in this book will fall upon him. The LORD will
blot out his name from under heaven
And that the whole land thereof is
brimstone, and salt, and
burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of
Sodom, and
Gomorrah, Admah, and
Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
All its soil will be a
burning waste of sulfur and salt, unsown and unproductive, with no plant growing on it, just like the destruction of
Sodom and
Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His fierce anger.
And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book:
Therefore the anger of the LORD
burned against this land, and He brought upon it every
curse written in this book.
Then my anger shall be
kindled against them in that day, and I will
forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be
devoured, and many evils and troubles shall
befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?
On that day My anger will
burn against them, and I will
abandon them and hide My face from them, so that they will be consumed, and many troubles and afflictions will
befall them. On that day they will say, ‘Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is no longer with us?’
For a fire is
kindled in mine anger, and shall
burn unto the lowest
hell, and shall
consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
For a fire has been
kindled by My anger, and it
burns to the depths of
Sheol; it consumes the earth and its produce, and scorches the foundations of the mountains.
They shall be
burnt with hunger, and
devoured with
burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.
They will be wasted from hunger and
ravaged by
pestilence and bitter plague; I will send the fangs of wild beasts against them, with the
venom of vipers that
slither in the dust.
They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law: they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon thine altar.
He will teach Your ordinances to Jacob and Your law to Israel; he will set incense before You and whole burnt offerings on Your altar.
And for the precious things of the earth and
fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the
bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.
with the choice gifts of the land and everything in it, and with the favor of Him who dwelt in the
burning bush. May these rest on the head of Joseph and crown the
brow of the prince of his brothers.
And he
buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Beth-peor: but no man knoweth of his
sepulchre unto this day.
And He
buried him in a valley in the land of Moab facing Beth-peor, and no one to this day knows the
location of his grave.
And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.
Then the Israelites burned up the city and everything in it. However, they put the silver and gold and articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD’s house.
But the children of Israel committed a
trespass in the
accursed thing: for
Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the
accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was
kindled against the children of Israel.
The Israelites, however, acted unfaithfully regarding the things devoted to destruction.
Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of what was set apart. So the anger of the LORD
burned against the Israelites.
And it shall be, that he that is taken with the
accursed thing shall be
burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath
transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
The one who is caught with the things devoted to destruction must be
burned, along with all that belongs to him, because he has
transgressed the covenant of the LORD and committed an
outrage in Israel.’”
And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
“Why have you brought this trouble upon us?” said Joshua. “
Today the LORD will bring trouble upon you!” And all Israel stoned him to death. Then they stoned the others and
burned their bodies.
And they raised over him a great
heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of
Achor, unto this day.
And they
heaped over
Achan a large pile of rocks that remains to this day. So the LORD turned from His
burning anger. Therefore that place is called the Valley of
Achor to this day.
And Joshua
burnt Ai, and made it an
heap for ever, even a
desolation unto this day.
So Joshua
burned Ai and made it a permanent
heap of ruins, a
desolation to this day.
As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered
thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
just as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded the Israelites. He built it according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses: “an altar of uncut stones on which no iron tool has been used.” And on it they offered burnt offerings to the LORD, and they sacrificed peace offerings.
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to
morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt
hough their horses, and
burn their
chariots with fire.
Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, for by this time
tomorrow I will deliver all of them slain before Israel. You are to
hamstring their horses and
burn up their
chariots.”
And Joshua did unto them as the LORD
bade him: he
houghed their horses, and
burnt their
chariots with fire.
Joshua treated them as the LORD had told him; he
hamstrung their horses and
burned up their
chariots.
And they
smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them: there was not any left to
breathe: and he
burnt Hazor with fire.
The Israelites put
everyone in Hazor to the sword,
devoting them to destruction. Nothing that breathed remained, and Joshua
burned down Hazor itself.
But as for the cities that stood still in their strength, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn.
Yet Israel did not burn any of the cities built on their mounds, except Hazor, which Joshua burned.
That we have built us an altar to turn from following the LORD, or if to offer
thereon burnt offering or meat offering, or if to offer peace offerings
thereon, let the LORD himself require it;
If we have built for ourselves an altar to turn away from Him and to offer
burnt offerings and grain offerings on it, or to sacrifice
fellowship offerings on it, may the LORD Himself hold us accountable.
Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice:
That is why we said, ‘Let us take action and build an altar for ourselves, but not for burnt offerings or sacrifices.
But that it may be a witness between us, and you, and our generations after us, that we might do the service of the LORD before him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in the LORD.
Rather, let it be a witness between us and you and the generations to come, that we will worship the LORD in His presence with our burnt offerings, sacrifices, and peace offerings.’ Then in the future, your descendants cannot say to ours, ‘You have no share in the LORD!’
Therefore said we, that it shall be, when they should so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say again, Behold the pattern of the altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices; but it is a witness between us and you.
Therefore we said, ‘If they ever say this to us or to our descendants, we will answer: Look at the
replica of the altar of the LORD that our fathers made, not for
burnt offerings or sacrifices, but as a witness between us and you.’
God
forbid that we should
rebel against the LORD, and turn this day from following the LORD, to build an altar for
burnt offerings, for meat offerings, or for sacrifices, beside the altar of the LORD our God that is before his tabernacle.
Far be it from us to
rebel against the LORD and turn away from Him
today by building an altar for
burnt offerings, grain offerings, or sacrifices, other than the altar of the LORD our God, which stands before His tabernacle.”
When ye have
transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed
yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be
kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.
If you
transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of the LORD will
burn against you, and you will quickly perish from this good land He has given you.”
And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-serah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.

And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt,
buried they in
Shechem, in a
parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of
Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
And the bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up out of Egypt, were
buried at
Shechem in the plot of land that Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor,
Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of silver. So it became an inheritance for Joseph’s descendants.
And
Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they
buried him in a hill that
pertained to
Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.
Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they
buried him at Gibeah, which had been given to his son
Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.
And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.
They buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath-heres in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that
spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
Then the anger of the LORD
burned against Israel, and He delivered them into the hands of those who
plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist.
And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath
transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not
hearkened unto my voice;
So the anger of the LORD
burned against Israel, and He said, “Because this nation has
transgressed the covenant I laid down for their fathers and has not
heeded My voice,
Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of
Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.
Then the anger of the LORD
burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of
Aram-naharaim, and the Israelites served him eight years.
And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second
bullock, and offer a
burnt sacrifice with the wood of the
grove which thou shalt cut down.
Then build a proper altar to the LORD your God on the top of this
stronghold. And with the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down, take the second bull and offer it as a
burnt offering.”
And
Gideon the son of
Joash died in a good old age, and was

And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of
Ammon.
So the anger of the LORD
burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and
Ammonites,
Then it shall be, that
whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of
Ammon, shall surely be the LORD’S, and I will offer it up for a
burnt offering.
then whatever comes out the door of my house to
greet me on my
triumphant return from the
Ammonites will belong to the LORD, and I will offer it up as a
burnt offering.”
And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto
Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of
Ammon, and
didst not call us to go with thee? we will
burn thine house upon thee with fire.
Then the men of Ephraim assembled and crossed the Jordan to Zaphon. They said to
Jephthah, “Why have you crossed over to fight the
Ammonites without calling us to go with you? We will
burn your house down with you inside!”
And

And the angel of the LORD said unto
Manoah, Though thou
detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou
wilt offer a
burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For
Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD.
And the angel of the LORD replied, “Even if I stay, I will not eat your food. But if you prepare a
burnt offering, offer it to the LORD.” For
Manoah did not know that it was the angel of the LORD.
But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
But his wife replied, “If the LORD had intended to kill us, He would not have accepted the burnt offering and the grain offering from our hands, nor would He have shown us all these things or spoken to us this way.”
And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto
Samson’s wife,
Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the
riddle, lest we
burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so?
So on the fourth day they said to
Samson’s wife, “
Entice your husband to explain the
riddle to us, or we will
burn you and your father’s household to death. Did you
invite us here to
rob us?”
And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and
slew thirty men of them, and took their
spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which
expounded the
riddle. And his anger was
kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.
Then the Spirit of the LORD came
mightily upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, killed thirty of their men, took their
apparel, and gave their clothes to those who had
solved the
riddle. And
burning with anger,
Samson returned to his father’s house,
And when he had set the brands on fire, he let them go into the standing corn of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks, and also the standing corn, with the vineyards and olives.
Then he
lit the torches and released the foxes into the standing grain of the Philistines,
burning up the piles of grain and the standing grain, as well as the vineyards and olive groves.
Then the Philistines said, Who hath done this? And they answered,
Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and
burnt her and her father with fire.
“Who did this?” the Philistines demanded. “It was
Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite,” they were told. “For his wife was given to his companion.” So the Philistines went up and
burned her and her father to death.
And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines
shouted against him: and the Spirit of the LORD came
mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was
burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.
When
Samson arrived in Lehi, the Philistines came out
shouting against him. And the Spirit of the LORD came
mightily upon him. The ropes on his arms became like
burnt flax, and the bonds broke loose from his hands.

Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.
Then
Samson’s brothers and his father’s family came down, carried him back, and
buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of his father
Manoah. And he had judged Israel twenty years.
And they took the things which
Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people that were at quiet and secure: and they
smote them with the edge of the sword, and
burnt the city with fire.
After they had taken
Micah’s idols and his priest, they went to Laish, to a
tranquil and
unsuspecting people, and they struck them with their swords and
burned down the city.
Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and
wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even, and offered
burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
Then the Israelites, all the people, went up to

weeping before the LORD. That day they fasted until evening and presented
burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD.

Where thou
diest, will I die, and there will I be
buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
Where you die, I will die, and there I will be
buried. May the LORD
punish me, and ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.”
Also before they
burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to
roast for the priest; for he will not have
sodden flesh of thee, but raw.
Even before the fat was
burned, the servant of the priest would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to
roast, because he will not accept boiled meat from you, but only raw.”
And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to
burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him,
Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.
And if any man said to him, “The fat must be burned first; then you may take whatever you want,” the servant would reply, “No, you must give it to me right now. If you refuse, I will take it by force!”
And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to
burn incense, to wear an
ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?
And out of all the tribes of Israel I selected your father to be My priest, to offer sacrifices on My altar, to
burn incense, and to wear an
ephod in My presence. I also gave to the house of your father all the offerings of the Israelites made by fire.
And the
cart came into the field of Joshua, a Beth-
shemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they
clave the wood of the
cart, and offered the
kine a
burnt offering unto the LORD.

cart came to the field of Joshua of Beth-shemesh and stopped there near a large rock. The people
chopped up the
cart and offered the cows as a
burnt offering to the LORD.
And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD, and the
coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone: and the men of Beth-shemesh offered
burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the LORD.
And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD and the chest containing the gold objects, and they placed them on the large rock. That day the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt offerings and made sacrifices to the LORD.
And Samuel took a
sucking lamb, and offered it for a
burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel
cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.
Then Samuel took a
suckling lamb and offered it as a whole
burnt offering to the LORD. He
cried out to the LORD on behalf of Israel, and the LORD answered him.
And as Samuel was offering up the
burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD
thundered with a great
thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and
discomfited them; and they were
smitten before Israel.
As the Philistines drew near to fight against Israel, Samuel was sacrificing the
burnt offering. But that day the LORD
thundered loudly against the Philistines and threw them into such confusion that they fled before Israel.
And thou shalt go down before me to
Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer
burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou
tarry, till I come to thee, and
shew thee what thou shalt do.
And you shall go before me to
Gilgal, and surely I will come to you to offer
burnt offerings and to sacrifice peace offerings. Wait seven days until I come to you and show you what you are to do.”
And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those
tidings, and his anger was
kindled greatly.
When Saul heard their words, the Spirit of God
rushed upon him, and he
burned with great anger.
And Saul said, Bring
hither a
burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the
burnt offering.
So he said, “Bring me the burnt offering and the peace offerings.” And he offered up the burnt offering.
And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the
burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might
salute him.
Just as he finished offering the
burnt offering, Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to
greet him.
Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to
Gilgal, and I have not made
supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a
burnt offering.
I thought, ‘Now the Philistines will descend upon me at
Gilgal, and I have not sought the favor of the LORD.’ So I felt compelled to offer the
burnt offering.”
And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in
burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to
hearken than the fat of rams.
But Samuel declared: “Does the LORD delight in
burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obedience to His voice? Behold, obedience is better than sacrifice, and
attentiveness is better than the fat of rams.
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was
kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down
hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the
naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
Now when David’s oldest brother Eliab heard him speaking to the men, his anger burned against David. “Why have you come down here?” he asked. “And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and wickedness of heart—you have come down to see the battle!”

burned against
Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a
perverse and
rebellious woman! Do I not know that you have chosen the son of
Jesse to your own shame and to the disgrace of the mother who bore you?
And Samuel died; and all the Israelites were gathered together, and
lamented him, and
buried him in his house at
Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the wilderness of
Paran.
When Samuel died, all Israel gathered to
mourn for him; and they
buried him at his home in
Ramah. Then David set out and went down to the Wilderness of
Paran.
Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had
lamented him, and
buried him in
Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.
Now by this time Samuel had died, and all Israel had
mourned for him and
buried him in
Ramah, his own city. And Saul had removed the mediums and spiritists from the land.
Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.
Because you did not obey the LORD or carry out His
burning anger against Amalek, the LORD has done this to you
today.
And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to
Ziklag on the third day, that the
Amalekites had invaded the south, and
Ziklag, and
smitten Ziklag, and
burned it with fire;
So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was
burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken
captives.
When David and his men came to the city, they found it
burned down and their wives and sons and daughters taken
captive.
We made an invasion upon the south of the Cherethites, and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah, and upon the south of
Caleb; and we
burned Ziklag with fire.
We
raided the Negev of the Cherethites, the territory of Judah, and the Negev of
Caleb, and we
burned down
Ziklag.”
All the
valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to
Jabesh, and
burnt them there.
all their men of
valor set out, journeyed all night, and
retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth-shan. When they arrived at
Jabesh, they
burned the bodies there.
And they took their bones, and
buried them under a tree at
Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
Then they took their bones and
buried them under the
tamarisk tree in
Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.
And the men of Judah came, and there they
anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of
Jabesh-
gilead were they that
buried Saul.
Then the men of Judah came to
Hebron, and there they
anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, “It was the men of
Jabesh-
gilead who
buried Saul.”
And David sent messengers unto the men of
Jabesh-
gilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the LORD, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have
buried him.
So David sent messengers to the men of
Jabesh-
gilead to tell them, “The LORD
bless you, because you showed this kindness to Saul your lord when you
buried him.
And they took up
Asahel, and
buried him in the
sepulchre of his father, which was in
Bethlehem. And
Joab and his men went all night, and they came to
Hebron at break of day.
And they
buried Abner in
Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and
wept at the grave of
Abner; and all the people
wept.
And David commanded his young men, and they
slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and
hanged them up over the
pool in
Hebron. But they took the head of
Ish-bosheth, and
buried it in the
sepulchre of
Abner in
Hebron.
So David commanded his young men, and they killed Rechab and Baanah. They cut off their hands and feet and hung their bodies by the
pool in
Hebron, but they took the head of
Ish-bosheth and
buried it in
Abner’s tomb in
Hebron.
And David came to
Baal-perazim, and David
smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place
Baal-perazim.
So David went to
Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a
bursting flood, the LORD has
burst out against my enemies before me.” So he called that place
Baal-perazim.
And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.
There the Philistines abandoned their idols, and David and his men carried them away.
And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Uzzah; and God
smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
And the anger of the LORD
burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down on the spot for his
irreverence, and he died there beside the ark of God.
And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place
Perez-uzzah to this day.
Then David became
angry because the LORD had
burst forth against Uzzah; so he named that place
Perez-uzzah, as it is called to this day.
And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
So they brought the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
When David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of Hosts.
And David’s anger was greatly
kindled against the man; and he said to
Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:
David
burned with anger against the man and said to
Nathan: “As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die!
And the king said to
Absalom,
Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him:
howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.
“No, my son,” the king replied, “we should not all go, or we would be a
burden to you.” Although
Absalom urged him, he was not willing to go, but gave him his blessing.
Unto whom David said, If thou passest on with me, then thou shalt be a burden unto me:
David said to him, “If you go on with me, you will be a burden to me.
And when
Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he
saddled his
ass, and arose, and
gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and
hanged himself, and died, and was
buried in the
sepulchre of his father.
When
Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he
saddled his
donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He put his affairs in order and
hanged himself. So he died and was
buried in his father’s tomb.
I am this day
fourscore years old: and can I
discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a
burden unto my lord the king?
I am now eighty years old. Can I
discern what is good and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats or drinks? Can I still hear the voice of singing men and women? Why should your servant be an added
burden to my lord the king?
Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.
Please let your servant return, that I may die in my own city near the tomb of my father and mother. But here is your servant Chimham. Let him cross over with my lord the king, and do for him what is good in your sight.”
