Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And I am this
day weak, though
anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the
doer of evil according to his wickedness.
And I am weak this
day, though
anointed as king, and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too fierce for me. May the LORD repay the
evildoer according to his evil!”
And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and were sojourners there until this day.)
because the Beerothites fled to Gittaim and have lived there as foreigners to this day.
And the sons of
Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the
day to the house of
Ish-bosheth, who lay on a bed at
noon.
Now Rechab and Baanah, the sons of
Rimmon the Beerothite, set out and arrived at the house of
Ish-bosheth in the heat of the
day, while the king was taking his
midday nap.
And they brought the head of
Ish-bosheth unto David to
Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of
Ish-bosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the LORD hath
avenged my lord the king this
day of Saul, and of his seed.
They brought the head of
Ish-bosheth to David at
Hebron and said to the king, “Here is the head of
Ish-bosheth son of Saul, your enemy who sought your life.
Today the LORD has granted
vengeance to my lord the king against Saul and his offspring.”
And David said on that
day,
Whosoever getteth up to the
gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the
lame and the blind, that are
hated of David’s soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the
lame shall not come into the house.
On that
day he said, “
Whoever attacks the Jebusites must use the water shaft to reach the
lame and blind who are
despised by David.” That is why it is said, “The blind and the
lame will never enter the palace.”
And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place
Perez-uzzah to this
day.
Then David became
angry because the LORD had
burst forth against Uzzah; so he named that place
Perez-uzzah, as it is called to this
day.
And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me?
That day David feared the LORD and asked, “How can the ark of the LORD ever come to me?”
Then David returned to
bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel
today, who uncovered himself to
day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows
shamelessly uncovereth himself!
As soon as David returned home to
bless his own household, Saul’s daughter Michal came out to meet him. “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself
today!” she said. “He has uncovered himself
today in the sight of the maidservants of his subjects, like a vulgar person would do.”
Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.
And Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.
Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.
For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt until this day, but I have moved about with a tent as My dwelling.
And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
and have done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD declares to you that He Himself will establish a house for you.
And when thy
days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy
bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
And when your
days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your
descendant after you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom.
And David said to Uriah,
Tarry here to
day also, and to
morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that
day, and the
morrow.
“Stay here one more
day,” David said to Uriah, “and
tomorrow I will send you back.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that
day and the next.
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
This is what the LORD says: ‘I will raise up
adversity against you from your own house. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to another, and he will lie with them in broad
daylight.
For thou
didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.
You have acted in secret, but I will do this thing in broad
daylight before all Israel.’”
And it came to pass on the seventh
day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not
hearken unto our voice: how will he then
vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?
On the seventh
day the child died. But David’s servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, “Look, while the child was alive, we spoke to him, and he would not
listen to us. So how can we tell him the child is dead? He may even
harm himself.”
And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son,
lean from
day to
day?
wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s sister.
so he asked Amnon, “Why are you, the son of the king, so depressed morning after morning? Won’t you tell me?” Amnon replied, “I am in love with Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s sister.”
And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of
Absalom this hath been determined from the
day that he forced his sister Tamar.
But Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimeah, spoke up: “My lord must not think they have killed all the sons of the king, for only Amnon is dead. In fact,
Absalom has
planned this since the
day Amnon
violated his sister Tamar.
But
Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David
mourned for his son every
day.
Now
Absalom fled and went to Talmai son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. But David
mourned for his son every
day.
Whereas thou camest but
yesterday, should I this
day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go
whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth be with thee.
In fact, you arrived only
yesterday; should I make you
wander around with us
today while I do not know where I am going? Go back and take your brothers with you. May the LORD show you loving devotion and faithfulness.”
It may be that the LORD will look on mine
affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his
cursing this
day.
Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.
So David and all the people with him got up and crossed the Jordan. By
daybreak, there was no one left who had not crossed the Jordan.
Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men.
There the people of Israel were defeated by David’s servants, and the slaughter was great that day—twenty thousand men.
For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood
devoured more people that
day than the sword
devoured.
The battle spread over the whole
countryside, and that
day the forest
devoured more people than the sword.
Now
Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a
pillar, which is in the king’s
dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in
remembrance: and he called the
pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this
day,
Absalom’s place.
During his lifetime,
Absalom had set up for himself a
pillar in the King’s Valley, for he had said, “I have no son to preserve the memory of my name.” So he gave the
pillar his name, and to this
day it is called
Absalom’s Monument.
And
Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear
tidings this
day, but thou shalt bear
tidings another
day: but this
day thou shalt bear no
tidings, because the king’s son is dead.
But
Joab replied, “You are not the man to take good news
today. You may do it another
day, but you must not do so
today, because the king’s son is dead.”
And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said,
Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath
avenged thee this
day of all them that rose up against thee.
Just then the
Cushite came and said, “May my lord the king hear the good news:
Today the LORD has
avenged you of all who rose up against you!”
And the victory that
day was turned into
mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that
day how the king was
grieved for his son.
And that
day’s victory was turned into
mourning for all the people, because on that
day they were told, “The king is
grieving over his son.”
And
Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast shamed this
day the faces of all thy servants, which this
day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;
Then
Joab went into the house and said to the king, “
Today you have disgraced all your servants who have saved your life and the lives of your sons and daughters, of your wives, and of your concubines.
In that thou lovest thine enemies, and hatest thy friends. For thou hast declared this
day, that thou regardest neither princes nor servants: for this
day I perceive, that if
Absalom had lived, and all we had died this
day, then it had pleased thee well.
You love those who
hate you and
hate those who love you! For you have made it clear
today that the commanders and soldiers mean nothing to you. I know
today that if
Absalom were alive and all of us were dead, it would have pleased you!
And said unto the king, Let not my lord
impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did
perversely the
day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.
and said, “My lord, do not hold me guilty, and do not remember your servant’s
wrongdoing on the
day my lord the king left Jerusalem. May the king not take it to heart.
For thy servant
doth know that I have
sinned: therefore, behold, I am come the first this
day of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.
For your servant knows that I have
sinned, so here I am
today as the first of all the house of Joseph to come down to meet my lord the king.”
And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this
day be
adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this
day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this
day king over Israel?
And David replied, “Sons of Zeruiah, what have I to do with you, that you should be my
adversaries today? Should any man be put to death in Israel
today? Am I not indeed aware that
today I am king over Israel?”
And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor
trimmed his
beard, nor washed his clothes, from the
day the king departed until the
day he came again in peace.
Then Mephibosheth, Saul’s grandson, went down to meet the king. He had not cared for his feet or
trimmed his
mustache or washed his clothes from the
day the king had left until the
day he returned safely.
I am this
day fourscore years old: and can I
discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?
I am now eighty years old. Can I
discern what is good and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats or drinks? Can I still hear the voice of singing men and women? Why should your servant be an added burden to my lord the king?
And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the
day of their death, living in
widowhood.
When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to care for the palace, and he placed them in a house under guard. He provided for them, but he no longer
slept with them. They were confined until the
day of their death, living as widows.
Then said the king to
Amasa,
Assemble me the men of Judah within three
days, and be thou here present.
Then the king said to
Amasa, “
Summon the men of Judah to come to me within three
days, and be here
yourself.”
Then there was a famine in the
days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his
bloody house, because he
slew the Gibeonites.
During the reign of David there was a famine for three successive years, and David sought the face of the LORD. And the LORD said, “It is because of the blood shed by Saul and his family, because he killed the Gibeonites.”
And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they
hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the
days of harvest, in the first
days, in the beginning of barley harvest.
And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they
hanged them on the hill before the LORD. So all seven of them fell together; they were put to death in the first
days of the harvest, at the beginning of the barley harvest.
And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took
sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by
day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took
sackcloth and spread it out for herself on a rock. From the beginning of the harvest until the rain from heaven poured down on the bodies, she did not allow the birds of the air to rest on them by
day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
And David
sang this song to the LORD on the
day the LORD had delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.
They prevented me in the
day of my
calamity: but the LORD was my stay.
He arose, and
smote the Philistines until his hand was
weary, and his hand
clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that
day; and the people returned after him only to
spoil.
but
Eleazar stood his ground and struck the Philistines until his hand grew
weary and
stuck to his sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that
day. Then the troops returned to him, but only to
plunder the dead.
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a
valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he
slew two
lionlike men of Moab: he went down also and
slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:
And Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a man of
valor from Kabzeel, a man of many exploits. He struck down two champions of Moab, and on a
snowy day he went down into a pit and killed a lion.
So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
At the end of nine months and twenty days, having gone through the whole land, they returned to Jerusalem.
So
Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or
wilt thou
flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three
days’
pestilence in thy land? now
advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
So
Gad went and said to David, “Do you choose to
endure three years of famine in your land, three months of
fleeing the pursuit of your enemies, or three
days of plague upon your land? Now then, think it over and decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
And
Gad came that
day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.
And that
day Gad came to David and said to him, “Go up and build an altar to the LORD on the
threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”
For he is gone down this
day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king’s sons, and the captains of the host, and
Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.
For
today he has gone down and sacrificed an abundance of oxen,
fattened calves, and sheep, and has invited all the sons of the king, the commanders of the army, and
Abiathar the priest. And behold, they are eating and drinking before him, saying, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’
Even as I
sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my
stead; even so will I certainly do this
day.
I will carry out this very
day exactly what I
swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel: Surely your son Solomon will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.”
And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.
saying, ‘Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel!
Today He has provided one to sit on my throne, and my eyes have seen it.’”
And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon
swear unto me to
day that he will not
slay his servant with the sword.
It was reported to Solomon: “Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon, and he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon first
swear to me not to put his servant to the sword.’”
Now the
days of David drew
nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying,
As the time drew near for David to die, he charged his son Solomon,
And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of
Gera, a
Benjamite of Bahurim, which
cursed me with a
grievous curse in the
day when I went to
Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I
sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.
Keep an eye on Shimei the son of
Gera, the
Benjamite from Bahurim who is with you. He called down bitter curses against me on the
day I went to
Mahanaim, but when he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I
swore to him by the LORD: ‘I will never put you to the sword.’
And the
days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: seven years reigned he in
Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.
The length of David’s reign over Israel was forty years—seven years in
Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
Now therefore, as the LORD liveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.
And now, as surely as the LORD lives—the One who established me, who set me on the throne of my father David, and who founded for me a dynasty as He promised—surely Adonijah shall be put to death
today!”
For it shall be, that on the
day thou goest out, and passest over the
brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head.
On the day you go out and cross the Kidron Valley, know for sure that you will die; your blood will be on your own head.”
And Shimei said unto the king, The saying is good: as my lord the king hath said, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.
“The sentence is fair,” Shimei replied. “Your servant will do as my lord the king has spoken.” And Shimei lived in Jerusalem for a long time.
And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not make thee to
swear by the LORD, and
protested unto thee, saying, Know for a certain, on the
day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any
whither, that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, The word that I have heard is good.
the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Did I not make you
swear by the LORD and
warn you, ‘On the
day you leave and go elsewhere, know for sure that you will die’? And you told me, ‘The sentence is fair; I will
comply.’
Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.
The people, however, were still sacrificing on the high places because a house for the Name of the LORD had not yet been built.
And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
Solomon replied, “You have shown much loving devotion to Your servant, my father David, because he walked before You in faithfulness, righteousness, and uprightness of heart. And You have maintained this loving devotion by giving him a son to sit on his throne this very day.
And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
Moreover, I will give you what you did not request—both riches and honor—so that during all your days no man in any kingdom will be your equal.
And if thou
wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will
lengthen thy
days.
So if you walk in My ways and keep My statutes and commandments, just as your father David did, I will
prolong your
days.”
And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.
On the third
day after I gave birth, this woman also had a
baby. We were alone, with no one in the house but the two of us.
And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.
And Solomon reigned over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These kingdoms offered tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.
And Solomon’s provision for one
day was thirty measures of fine flour, and
threescore measures of meal,
Solomon’s provisions for a single day were thirty cors of fine flour, sixty cors of meal,
And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba, all the
days of Solomon.
Throughout the
days of Solomon, Judah and Israel dwelt securely from
Dan to
Beersheba, each man under his own vine and his own fig tree.
And it came to pass, when
Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he
rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this
day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.
When
Hiram received Solomon’s message, he
rejoiced greatly and said, “Blessed be the LORD this
day! He has given David a wise son over this great people!”
And they drew out the
staves, that the ends of the
staves were seen out in the holy place before the
oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this
day.
The poles extended far enough that their ends were visible from the Holy Place in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are there to this day.
Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.
‘Since the day I brought My people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house so that My Name would be there. But I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’
Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
You have kept Your promise to Your servant, my father David. What You spoke with Your mouth You have fulfilled with Your hand this day.
Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his
supplication, O LORD my God, to
hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to
day:
Yet regard the prayer and
plea of Your servant, O LORD my God, so that You may hear the cry and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You
today.
That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and
day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest
hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place.
May Your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.
That they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
so that they may fear You all the days they live in the land that You gave to our fathers.
And let these my words,
wherewith I have made
supplication before the LORD, be
nigh unto the LORD our God
day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require:
And may these words with which I have made my petition before the LORD be near to the LORD our God
day and night, so that He may
uphold the cause of His servant and of His people Israel as each
day requires,
Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.
So let your heart be fully devoted to the LORD our God, as it is this day, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments.”
The same
day did the king
hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the
brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.
On that same
day the king consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar before the LORD was too small to contain all these offerings.
And at that time Solomon held a feast, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of
Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before the LORD our God, seven
days and seven
days, even fourteen
days.
So at that time Solomon and all Israel with him—a great assembly of people from Lebo-
hamath to the
Brook of Egypt—kept the feast before the LORD our God for seven
days and seven more
days—fourteen
days in all.
On the eighth
day he sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and
glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.
On the
fifteenth day Solomon sent the people away. So they blessed the king and went home, joyful and
glad in heart for all the good things that the LORD had done for His servant David and for His people Israel.
And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of
Cabul unto this
day.
“What are these towns you have given me, my brother?” asked
Hiram, and he called them the Land of
Cabul, as they are called to this
day.
Their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon
levy a tribute of
bondservice unto this
day.
their descendants who remained in the land, those whom the Israelites were unable to
devote to destruction—Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this
day.
And the king made of the
almug trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king’s house, harps also and
psalteries for singers: there came no such
almug trees, nor were seen unto this
day.
The king made the
almug wood into steps for the house of the LORD and for the king’s palace, and into lyres and harps for the singers. Never before had such
almug wood been brought in, nor has such been seen to this
day.)
And all king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of
Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver: it was nothing accounted of in the
days of Solomon.
All King Solomon’s drinking cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of
Lebanon were pure gold. There was no silver, because it was accounted as nothing in the
days of Solomon.
Notwithstanding in thy
days I will not do it for David thy father’s sake: but I will
rend it out of the hand of thy son.
Nevertheless, for the sake of your father David, I will not do it during your lifetime; I will
tear it out of the hand of your son.
And he was an
adversary to Israel all the
days of Solomon, beside the mischief that
Hadad did: and he
abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria.
Rezon was Israel’s enemy throughout the
days of Solomon, adding to the trouble caused by
Hadad. So Rezon ruled over
Aram with hostility toward Israel.
Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the
days of his life for David my servant’s sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes:
Nevertheless, I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand, because I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David My servant, whom I chose because he kept My commandments and statutes.
And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.
Rehoboam answered, “Go away for three
days and then return to me.” So the people departed.
And they spake unto him, saying, If thou
wilt be a servant unto this people this
day, and
wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.
They replied, “If you will be a servant to these people and serve them this
day, and if you will
respond by speaking kind words to them, they will be your servants
forever.”
So
Jeroboam and all the people came to
Rehoboam the third
day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third
day.
After three
days,
Jeroboam and all the people returned to
Rehoboam, since the king had said, “Come back to me on the third
day.”
So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
So to this day Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the
fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in
Bethel, sacrificing unto the
calves that he had made: and he placed in
Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast on the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar; he made this offering in
Bethel to sacrifice to the
calves he had set up, and he
installed priests in
Bethel for the high places he had set up.
So he offered upon the altar which he had made in
Bethel the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.
On the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, a month of his own choosing,
Jeroboam offered sacrifices on the altar he had set up in
Bethel. So he ordained a feast for the Israelites, offered sacrifices on the altar, and burned incense.
And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.
That day the man of God gave a sign, saying, “The LORD has spoken this sign: ‘Surely the altar will be split apart, and the ashes upon it will be poured out.’”
Now there dwelt an old prophet in
Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that
day in
Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.
Now a certain old prophet was living in
Bethel, and his sons came and told him all the deeds that the man of God had done that
day in
Bethel. They also told their father the words that the man had spoken to the king.
Moreover the LORD shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of
Jeroboam that
day: but what? even now.
Moreover, the LORD will raise up for Himself a king over Israel who will cut off the house of
Jeroboam. This is the
day—
yes, even
today!
And the
days which
Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years: and he
slept with his fathers, and
Nadab his son reigned in his
stead.
And the length of
Jeroboam’s reign was twenty-two years, and he rested with his fathers, and his son
Nadab reigned in his place.
Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not turned aside from anything the LORD commanded all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
And there was war between the houses of
Rehoboam and
Jeroboam all the
days of Abijam’s life.
