Mocker is the name of the proud and
arrogant man— of him who acts with excessive pride.
A
dire vision is declared to me: “The
traitor still betrays, and the destroyer still destroys. Go up, O
Elam! Lay siege, O Media! I will put an end to all her
groaning.”
Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD.
Though grace is shown to the wicked man, he does not learn righteousness. In the land of righteousness he acts unjustly and fails to see the majesty of the LORD.
Woe to you, O destroyer never destroyed, O
traitor never
betrayed! When you have finished destroying, you will be destroyed. When you have finished
betraying, you will be
betrayed.
You have never heard; you have never understood; for a long time your ears have not been open. For I knew how
deceitful you are; you have been called a
rebel from birth.
Behold, My Servant will
prosper; He will be raised and lifted up and highly
exalted.
Is it not to
deal thy bread to the
hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not
thyself from thine own flesh?
Isn’t it to share your bread with the
hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your home, to
clothe the naked when you see him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Surely as a wife
treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye
dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.
But as a woman may
betray her husband, so you have
betrayed Me, O house of Israel,” declares the LORD.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have
dealt very
treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly unfaithful to Me,” declares the LORD.
For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to
covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one
dealeth falsely.
“For from the least of them to the greatest, all are
greedy for gain; from prophet to priest, all practice
deceit.
Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall
inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to
covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one
dealeth falsely.
Therefore I will give their wives to other men and their fields to new owners. For from the least of them to the greatest, all are
greedy for gain; from prophet to priest, all practice
deceit.
Take ye
heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly
supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.
Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I
plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore
doth the way of the wicked
prosper? wherefore are all they happy that
deal very
treacherously?
Righteous are You, O LORD, when I
plead before You. Yet about Your judgments I wish to
contend with You: Why does the way of the wicked
prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?
For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have
dealt treacherously with thee;
yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.
Even your brothers— your own father’s household— even they have
betrayed you; even they have
cried aloud against you. Do not trust them, though they speak well of you.
Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to
slay me:
forgive not their iniquity, neither
blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee;
deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.
But You, O LORD, know all their deadly plots against me. Do not
wipe out their guilt or
blot out their sin from Your sight. Let them be overthrown before You;
deal with them in the time of Your anger.
Enquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us; if so be that the LORD will
deal with us according to all his
wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
“Please inquire of the LORD on our behalf, since
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon is
waging war against us. Perhaps the LORD will perform for us something like all His past wonders, so that
Nebuchadnezzar will withdraw from us.”
And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so evil; surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give
Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt:
But like the bad figs, so bad they cannot be eaten,’ says the LORD, ‘so will I
deal with
Zedekiah king of Judah, his officials, and the
remnant of Jerusalem—those remaining in this land and those living in the land of Egypt.
She weepeth
sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have
dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.
She weeps
aloud in the night, with tears upon her cheeks. Among all her lovers there is no one to comfort her. All her friends have
betrayed her; they have become her enemies.
Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are many, and my heart is
faint.
Let all their wickedness come before You, and
deal with them as You have
dealt with me because of all my transgressions. For my groans are many, and my heart is
faint.
The king shall
mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with
desolation, and the hands of the people of the land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their deserts will I judge them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
The king will
mourn, the prince will be clothed with
despair, and the hands of the people of the land will
tremble. I will
deal with them according to their conduct, and I will judge them by their own standards. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
Therefore will I also
deal in
fury: mine eye shall not
spare, neither will I have
pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.
Therefore I will
respond with wrath. I will not look on them with
pity, nor will I
spare them. Although they
shout loudly in My ears, I will not
listen to them.”
For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even
deal with thee as thou hast done, which hast
despised the oath in breaking the covenant.
For this is what the Lord GOD says: I will
deal with you according to your deeds, since you have
despised the oath by breaking the covenant.
Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.
He follows My statutes and faithfully keeps My ordinances. That man is righteous; surely he will live, declares the Lord GOD.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have wrought with you for my name’s sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
Then you will know, O house of Israel, that I am the LORD, when I have dealt with you for the sake of My name and not according to your wicked ways and corrupt acts, declares the Lord GOD.”
In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they
dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they
vexed the fatherless and the widow.
Father and mother are treated with contempt. Within your walls the foreign resident is exploited, the fatherless and the widow are
oppressed.
Can thine heart
endure, or can thine hands be strong, in the days that I shall
deal with thee? I the LORD have spoken it, and will do it.
Will your courage
endure or your hands be strong in the day I
deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will act.
And I will set my jealousy against thee, and they shall
deal furiously with thee: they shall take away thy nose and thine ears; and thy
remnant shall fall by the sword: they shall take thy sons and thy daughters; and thy residue shall be
devoured by the fire.
And I will set My
jealous rage against you, and they will
deal with you in
fury. They will cut off your noses and ears, and your survivors will fall by the sword. They will seize your sons and daughters, and your
remnant will be consumed by fire.
And they shall
deal with thee
hatefully, and shall take away all thy labour, and shall leave thee naked and bare: and the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be discovered, both thy
lewdness and thy whoredoms.
They will treat you with hatred, take all for which you have worked, and leave you naked and bare, so that the shame of your
prostitution will be exposed. Your
indecency and
promiscuity Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that
Edom hath
dealt against the house of Judah by taking
vengeance, and hath greatly
offended, and
revenged himself upon them;
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because
Edom acted vengefully against the house of Judah, and in so doing
incurred grievous guilt,
And I will lay my
vengeance upon
Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in
Edom according to mine anger and according to my
fury; and they shall know my
vengeance, saith the Lord GOD.
I will take My
vengeance on
Edom by the hand of My people Israel, and they will
deal with
Edom according to My anger and wrath. Then they will know My
vengeance, declares the Lord GOD.’
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the Philistines have
dealt by
revenge, and have taken
vengeance with a
despiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred;
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because the Philistines acted in
vengeance, taking
vengeance with
malice of soul to destroy Judah with ancient hostility,
I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.
I delivered it into the hand of the ruler of the nations, for him to deal with it according to its wickedness. I have banished it.
According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and
hid my face from them.
I
dealt with them according to their uncleanness and transgressions, and I
hid My face from them.
Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
Then compare our appearances with those of the young men who are eating the royal food, and deal with your servants according to what you see.”
But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail:
But one from her family line will rise up in his place, come against the army of the king of the North, and enter his fortress, fighting and prevailing.
They have
dealt treacherously against the LORD: for they have
begotten strange children: now shall a month
devour them with their portions.
They have been unfaithful to the LORD; for they have borne
illegitimate children. Now the New Moon will
devour them along with their land.
But they, like Adam, have
transgressed the covenant; there they were unfaithful to Me.
And ye shall eat in
plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath
dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be
ashamed.
You will have
plenty to eat, until you are satisfied. You will praise the name of the LORD your God, who has worked wonders for you. My people will never again be put to shame.
Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that
deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
Your eyes are too pure to look upon evil, and You cannot
tolerate wrongdoing. So why do You
tolerate the faithless? Why are You silent while the wicked
swallow up those more righteous than themselves?
Behold, at that time I will
undo all that
afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame.
Behold, at that time, I will
deal with all who
afflict you. I will save the
lame and gather the scattered; and I will
appoint praise and fame for the disgraced throughout the earth.
But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
But did not My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, overtake your fathers? They
repented and said, ‘Just as the LORD of Hosts purposed to do to us according to our ways and deeds, so He has done to us.’”
Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we
deal treacherously every man against his brother, by
profaning the covenant of our fathers?
Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God
create us? Why then do we break faith with one another so as to
profane the covenant of our fathers?
Judah hath
dealt treacherously, and an
abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath
profaned the
holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
Judah has broken faith; an
abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has
profaned the LORD’s beloved sanctuary by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.
Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast
dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
Yet you ask, “Why?” It is because the LORD has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have broken faith, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.
And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take
heed to your spirit, and let none
deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
Has not the LORD made them one, having a portion of the Spirit? And why one? Because He seeks godly offspring. So guard
yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.
For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take
heed to your spirit, that ye
deal not
treacherously.
“For I
hate divorce,” says the LORD, the God of Israel. “He who divorces his wife covers his garment with violence,” says the LORD of Hosts. So guard
yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith.
And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;
Jesus ordered them not to tell
anyone. But the more He ordered them, the more widely they proclaimed it.
And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he
cried the more a great
deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
Many people
admonished him to be silent, but he
cried out all the louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
“The Lord has done this for me. In these days He has shown me favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.”
And when they saw him, they were
amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus
dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
When His parents saw Him, they were
astonished. “Child, why have You done this to us?” His mother asked. “Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You.”
And the lord
commended the unjust
steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a
Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no
dealings with the
Samaritans.
“You are a
Jew,” said the woman. “How can You ask for a drink from me, a
Samaritan woman?” (For Jews do not associate with
Samaritans.)
The same
dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil
entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.
He exploited our people and
oppressed our fathers, forcing them to
abandon their infants so they would die.
And a certain woman named
Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of
Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
Among those
listening was a woman named
Lydia, a
dealer in purple cloth from the city of
Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to
respond to Paul’s message.
And
Festus said, King
Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have
dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.
Then
Festus said, “King
Agrippa and all who are present with us, you see this man. The whole Jewish community has petitioned me about him, both here and in Jerusalem, crying out that he ought not to live any longer.
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think
soberly, according as God hath
dealt to every man the measure of faith.
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of
yourself more highly than you ought, but think of
yourself with
sober judgment, according to the measure of faith God has given you.
Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you.
since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you.
Who can have
compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with
infirmity.
He is able to
deal gently with those who are ignorant and misguided, since he himself is
beset by weakness.
If ye
endure chastening, God
dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Endure suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?
Having determined to
deal graciously, I have given order, that such of the nation of the Jews, and of the priests and Levites being within our realm, as are willing and
desirous should go with thee unto Jerusalem.
For thy voice is heard before the most High: for the Mighty hath seen thy righteous
dealing, he hath seen also thy
chastity, which thou hast had ever since thy youth.
For in truth them is no man among them that be born, but he hath
dealt wickedly; and among the faithful there is none which hath not done
amiss.
Therefore is thy wrongful dealing come up unto the Highest, and thy pride unto the Mighty.
And now thy judgments are many and true: deal with me according to my sins and my fathers’: because we have not kept thy commandments, neither have walked in truth before thee.
Now therefore
deal with me as seemeth best unto thee, and command my spirit to be taken from me, that I may be dissolved, and become earth: for it is profitable for me to die rather than to live, because I have heard false reproaches, and have much sorrow: command therefore that I may now be delivered out of this distress, and go into the
everlasting place: turn not thy face away from me.
For if thou deal truly, thy doings shall prosperously succeed to thee, and to all them that live justly.
Thou art to be praised, for thou hast made me joyful; and that is not come to me which I suspected; but thou hast dealt with us according to thy great mercy.
If ye turn to him with your whole heart, and with your whole mind, and
deal uprightly before him, then will he turn unto you, and will not hide his face from you. Therefore see what he will do with you, and
confess him with your whole mouth, and praise the Lord of might, and
extol the
everlasting King. In the land of my captivity do I praise him, and declare his might and majesty to a sinful nation. O ye sinners, turn and do justice before him: who can tell if he will accept you, and have mercy on you?
Behold, even our cities and the inhabitants thereof are thy servants; come and deal with them as seemeth good unto thee.
Therefore the king of Egypt rose up against them, and
dealt subtilly with them, and brought them low with labouring in brick, and made them slaves.
These slaves have
dealt treacherously; one woman of the Hebrews hath brought shame upon the house of king Nabuchodonosor: for, behold, Holofernes lieth upon the ground without a head.
Yea, a mighty wind shall stand up against them, and like a storm shall blow them away: thus iniquity shall lay waste the whole earth, and ill
dealing shall overthrow the thrones of the mighty.
Instead of which punishment,
dealing graciously with thine own people, thou preparedst for them meat of a strange taste, even quails to
stir up their
appetite:
Because of unrighteous
dealings,
injuries, and riches got by
deceit, the kingdom is translated from one people to another.
Keep thy word, and deal faithfully with him, and thou shalt always find the thing that is necessary for thee.
Many therefore have refused to
lend for other men’s ill
dealing, fearing to be
defrauded.
Of an offence before a judge and ruler; of iniquity before a congregation and people; of unjust
dealing before thy
partner and friend;
Now therefore
bless ye the God of all, which only doeth
wondrous things every where, which exalteth our days from the
womb, and
dealeth with us according to his mercy.
O Lord our God, we have
sinned, we have done ungodly, we have
dealt unrighteously in all thine ordinances.
O Lord our God, thou hast dealt with us after all thy goodness, and according to all that great mercy of thine,
Put us not to shame: but
deal with us after thy lovingkindness, and according to the multitude of thy
mercies.
Thus have ye
dealt with the daughters of Israel, and they for fear
companied with you: but the daughter of Juda would not
abide your wickedness.
Thus
dealt he
zealously for the law of God like as Phinees did unto Zambri the son of Salom.
And they said, Deal not with us according to our wickedness, but according to thy mercy.
Thus it liked all the people to deal with Simon, and to do as hath been said.
For not as with other nations, whom the Lord patiently forbeareth to
punish, till they be come to the
fulness of their sins, so
dealeth he with us,
Heard that Philip, who was left over the affairs in Antioch, was
desperately bent, confounded, intreated the Jews, submitted himself, and
sware to all equal conditions, agreed with them, and offered sacrifice, honoured the temple, and
dealt kindly with the place,
First,
verily for the
unfeigned care I have of things pertaining to the king; and secondly, even for that I intend the good of mine own countrymen: for all our nation is in no small misery through the
unadvised dealing of them aforersaid.
But because there was no
dealing against the king, he watched his time to
accomplish this thing by policy.
