And I will beat down his foes before his
face, and plague them that
hate him.
I will
crush his foes before him and strike down those who
hate him.
Hide not thy
face from me in the day when I am in trouble;
incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.
Do not hide Your
face from me in my day of distress.
Incline Your ear to me; answer me quickly when I call.
And wine that maketh
glad the heart of man, and oil to make his
face to
shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s heart.
wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil that makes his
face to
shine, and bread that sustains his heart.
Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
When You hide Your
face, they are
terrified; when You take away their breath, they die and return to dust.
Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.
When You send Your Spirit, they are created, and You renew the face of the earth.
Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his
face evermore.
Seek out the LORD and His strength; seek His face always.
I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be
merciful unto me according to thy word.
I have sought Your
face with all my heart; be
gracious to me according to Your promise.
Make thy
face to
shine upon thy servant; and teach me thy statutes.
Make Your
face shine upon Your servant, and teach me Your statutes.
For thy servant David’s sake turn not away the
face of thine
anointed.
Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.
Answer me quickly, O LORD; my spirit fails. Do not hide Your face from me, or I will be like those who descend to the Pit.
So she caught him, and
kissed him, and with an
impudent face said unto him,
She seizes him and kisses him; she
brazenly says to him:
Therefore came I forth to meet thee,
diligently to seek thy
face, and I have found thee.
So I came out to meet you; I sought you, and I have found you.
When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
I was there when He established the heavens, when He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep,
In the light of the king’s countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
When a king’s face brightens, there is life; his favor is like a rain cloud in spring.
A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.
A wicked man hardens his face, but the upright man makes his way sure.
And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and
nettles had covered the
face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
Thorns had grown up everywhere, thistles had covered the ground, and the stone wall was broken down.
As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
As water reflects the face, so the heart reflects the true man.
Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man’s wisdom maketh his
face to
shine, and the boldness of his
face shall be changed.
Who is like the wise man? Who knows the interpretation of a matter? A man’s wisdom brightens his face, and the sternness of his face is changed.
O my
dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.
O my
dove in the clefts of the rock, in the crevices of the
cliff, let me see your
face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your countenance is lovely.
Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in
Heshbon, by the gate of Bath-rabbim: thy nose is as the tower of
Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus.
Your neck is like a tower made of ivory; your eyes are like the pools of
Heshbon by the gate of Bath-rabbim; your nose is like the tower of
Lebanon,
facing toward Damascus.
The
shew of their countenance
doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as
Sodom, they hide it not.
Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.
The expression on their
faces testifies against them, and like
Sodom they
flaunt their sin; they do not
conceal it.
Woe to them, for they have brought
disaster upon themselves.
What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and
grind the
faces of the poor? saith the LORD GOD of hosts.
Why do you
crush My people and
grind the
faces of the poor?” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.
Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with
twain he covered his
face, and with
twain he covered his feet, and with
twain he did fly.
Above Him stood
seraphim, each having six wings: With two wings they covered their
faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.
And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob. I will put my trust in Him.
And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be
amazed one at another; their
faces shall be as flames.
Terror, pain, and
anguish will seize them; they will
writhe like a woman in labor. They will look at one another, their
faces flushed with fear.
Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.
Prepare a place to slaughter his sons for the
iniquities of their forefathers. They will never rise up to possess a land or cover the earth with their cities.
Let mine outcasts dwell with thee, Moab; be thou a
covert to them from the
face of the
spoiler: for the
extortioner is at an end, the
spoiler ceaseth, the oppressors are consumed out of the land.
Let my fugitives stay with you; be a refuge for Moab from the destroyer.” When the
oppressor has gone, destruction has ceased, and the oppressors have
vanished from the land,
And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her
hire, and shall commit
fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the
face of the earth.
And at the end of seventy years, the LORD will restore Tyre. Then she will return to
hire as a
prostitute and sell herself to all the kingdoms on the
face of the earth.
And he will destroy in this mountain the
face of the covering cast over all people, and the
vail that is spread over all nations.
On this mountain He will
swallow up the
shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations;
He will
swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will
wipe away tears from off all
faces; and the
rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.
He will
swallow up death
forever. The Lord GOD will
wipe away the tears from every
face and remove the disgrace of His people from the whole earth. For the LORD has spoken.
He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall
blossom and
bud, and fill the
face of the world with fruit.
In the days to come, Jacob will take root. Israel will
bud and
blossom and fill the whole world with fruit.
When he hath made plain the
face thereof,
doth he not cast abroad the
fitches, and
scatter the
cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and
rie in their place?
When he has leveled its surface, does he not
sow caraway and
scatter cumin? He plants wheat in rows and barley in plots, and
rye within its border.
Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be
ashamed, neither shall his
face now wax pale.
Therefore the LORD who redeemed Abraham says of the house of Jacob: “No longer will Jacob be
ashamed and no more will his
face grow pale.
How then
wilt thou turn away the
face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for
chariots and for
horsemen?
For how can you
repel a single officer among the least of my master’s servants when you depend on Egypt for
chariots and
horsemen?
Then
Hezekiah turned his
face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD,
Then
Hezekiah turned his
face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,
And kings shall be thy
nursing fathers, and their queens thy
nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their
face toward the earth, and
lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be
ashamed that wait for me.
Kings will be your
foster fathers, and their queens your
nursing mothers. They will bow to you
facedown and
lick the dust at your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD; those who hope in Me will never be put to shame.”
I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that
plucked off the hair: I
hid not my
face from shame and
spitting.
I offered My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who
tore out My
beard. I did not hide My
face from
scorn and
spittle.
For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my
face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be
ashamed.
Because the Lord GOD helps Me, I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set My face like flint, and I know that I will not be put to shame.
He is
despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we
hid as it were our
faces from him; he was
despised, and we esteemed him not.
He was
despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. Like one from whom men hide their
faces, He was
despised, and we esteemed Him not.
In a little wrath I
hid my
face from thee for a moment; but with
everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy
Redeemer.
I was
enraged by his sinful
greed, so I struck him and
hid My
face in anger; yet he kept turning back to the desires of his heart.
But your
iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have
hid his
face from you, that he will not hear.
But your
iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His
face from you, so that He does not hear.
The sons also of them that
afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that
despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The
Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
The sons of your oppressors will come and bow down to you; all who
reviled you will fall
facedown at your feet and call you the City of the LORD,
Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast
hid thy
face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our
iniquities.
No one calls on Your name or strives to take hold of You. For You have hidden Your face from us and delivered us into the hand of our iniquity.
A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;
to a people who continually
provoke Me to My
face, sacrificing in the gardens and burning incense on altars of brick,
Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.
And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a
seething pot; and the
face thereof is toward the north.
Again the word of the LORD came to me, asking, “What do you see?” “I see a boiling pot,” I replied, “and it is
tilting toward us from the north.”
Thou therefore
gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their
faces, lest I
confound thee before them.
Get
yourself ready. Stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be
intimidated by them, or I will
terrify you before them.
Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.
say to a tree, ‘You are my father,’ and to a stone, ‘You gave me birth.’ For they have turned their backs to Me and not their
faces, yet in the time of trouble they
beg, ‘Rise up and save us!’
And when thou art
spoiled, what
wilt thou do? Though thou clothest
thyself with
crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy
face with painting, in vain shalt thou make
thyself fair; thy lovers will
despise thee, they will seek thy life.
O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast
stricken them, but they have not
grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their
faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
O LORD, do not Your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain. You finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They have made their
faces harder than stone and refused to
repent.
Do they
provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not
provoke themselves to the confusion of their own
faces?
But am I the One they are
provoking? declares the LORD. Is it not themselves they spite, to their own shame?
And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.
They will be exposed to the sun and moon, and to all the host of heaven which they have loved, served, followed, consulted, and worshiped. Their bones will not be gathered up or buried, but will become like dung lying on the ground.
How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the
scribes is in vain.
How can you say, ‘We are wise, and the Law of the LORD is with us,’ when in
fact the lying pen of the
scribes has produced a
deception?
Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.
So I will pull your skirts up over your face, that your shame may be seen.
They shall die of
grievous deaths; they shall not be
lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the
face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
“They will die from deadly diseases. They will not be
mourned or buried, but will lie like dung on the ground. They will be finished off by sword and famine, and their corpses will become food for the birds of the air and beasts of the earth.”
For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not
hid from my
face, neither is their iniquity
hid from mine eyes.
For My eyes are on all their ways. They are not hidden from My face, and their guilt is not concealed from My eyes.
I will
scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will
shew them the back, and not the
face, in the day of their
calamity.
I will
scatter them before the enemy like the east wind. I will show them My back and not My
face in the day of their
calamity.”
For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the LORD: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.
For I have set My
face against this city to bring
disaster and not good, declares the LORD. It will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, who will destroy it with fire.’
And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
In
fact, I will hand you over to those you
dread, who want to take your life—to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and to the Chaldeans.
And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.
all the kings of the north, both near and far, one after another—all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. And after all of them, the king of Sheshach will drink it too.
I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me.
By My great power and outstretched arm, I made the earth and the men and beasts on the face of it, and I give it to whom I please.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the LORD.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. You will die this year because you have preached rebellion against the LORD.’”
Ask ye now, and see whether a man
doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in
travail, and all
faces are turned into paleness?
Ask now, and see: Can a male give birth? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor and every face turned pale?
And
Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;
Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape from the hands of the Chaldeans, but he will surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and will speak with him
face to
face and see him eye to eye.
For this city hath been to me as a
provocation of mine anger and of my
fury from the day that they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my
face,
For this city has
aroused My wrath and
fury from the day it was built until now. Therefore I will remove it from My presence
And they have turned unto me the back, and not the
face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not
hearkened to receive instruction.
They have turned their backs to Me and not their
faces. Though I taught them again and again, they would not
listen or
respond to discipline.
They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but it is to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in mine anger and in my
fury, and for all whose wickedness I have
hid my
face from this city.
The Chaldeans are coming to fight and to fill those places with the corpses of the men I will strike down in My anger and in My wrath. I have hidden My face from this city because of all its wickedness.
And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.
And you
yourself will not escape his
grasp, but will surely be captured and delivered into his hand. You will see the king of Babylon eye to eye and speak with him
face to
face; and you will go to Babylon.
And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye
remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your
faces to enter into Egypt, and go to
sojourn there;
then hear the word of the LORD, O
remnant of Judah! This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you are determined to go to Egypt and reside there,
So shall it be with all the men that set their
faces to go into Egypt to
sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the
pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.
So all who
resolve to go to Egypt to reside there will die by sword and famine and plague. Not one of them will
survive or escape the
disaster I will bring upon them.’
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah.
Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I will set My
face to bring
disaster and to cut off all Judah.
And I will take the
remnant of Judah, that have set their
faces to go into the land of Egypt to
sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an
execration, and an
astonishment, and a
curse, and a reproach.
And I will take away the
remnant of Judah who have resolved to go to the land of Egypt to reside there; they will meet their end. They will all fall by the sword or be consumed by famine. From the least to the greatest, they will die by sword or famine; and they will become an object of
cursing and
horror, of
vilification and reproach.
They shall ask the way to
Zion with their
faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.
They will ask the way to
Zion and turn their
faces toward it. They will come and join themselves to the LORD in an
everlasting covenant that will never be forgotten.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the
sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the
oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall
flee every one to his own land.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and the one who wields the
sickle at harvest time. In the
face of the
oppressor’s sword, each will turn to his own people, each will
flee to his own land.
We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our
faces: for strangers are come into the
sanctuaries of the LORD’S house.
“We are
ashamed because we have heard reproach; disgrace has covered our
faces, because foreigners have entered the holy places of the LORD’s house.”
And from the daughter of
Zion all her beauty is departed: her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.
All the
splendor has departed from the Daughter of
Zion. Her princes are like deer that find no pasture; they lack the strength to
flee in the
face of the hunter.
Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the
face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that
faint for hunger in the top of every street.
Arise, cry out in the night from the first watch of the night. Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children who are
fainting from hunger on the corner of every street.
He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.
Let him
bury his
face in the dust— perhaps there is still hope.
To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,
to deny a man justice before the Most High,
Princes are
hanged up by their hand: the
faces of elders were not honoured.
Princes have been hung up by their hands; elders receive no respect.
And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.
but each had four faces and four wings.
And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.
Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands. All four living creatures had faces and wings,
As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.
The form of their faces was that of a man, and each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, the face of an ox on the left side, and also the face of an eagle.
Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies.
Such were their faces. Their wings were spread upward; each had two wings touching the wings of the creature on either side, and two wings covering its body.
Now as I
beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four
faces.
When I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces.
As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.
The appearance of the brilliant light all around Him was like that of a
rainbow in a cloud on a
rainy day. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell
facedown and heard a voice speaking.
Behold, I have made thy
face strong against their
faces, and thy
forehead strong against their foreheads.
Behold, I will make your
face as hard as their
faces, and your
forehead as hard as their foreheads.
Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river of
Chebar: and I fell on my
face.
So I got up and went out to the plain, and behold, the glory of the LORD was present there, like the glory I had seen by the River Kebar, and I fell facedown.
Moreover take thou unto thee an iron pan, and set it for a wall of iron between thee and the city: and set thy face against it, and it shall be besieged, and thou shalt lay siege against it. This shall be a sign to the house of Israel.
Then take an iron plate and set it up as an iron wall between
yourself and the city. Turn your
face toward it so that it is under siege, and
besiege it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel.
Therefore thou shalt set thy
face toward the siege of Jerusalem, and thine arm shall be uncovered, and thou shalt
prophesy against it.
You must turn your
face toward the siege of Jerusalem with your arm bared, and
prophesy against it.
Son of man, set thy
face toward the mountains of Israel, and
prophesy against them,
“Son of man, set your
face against the mountains of Israel and
prophesy against them.
They shall also
gird themselves with
sackcloth, and
horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all
faces, and
baldness upon all their heads.
They will put on
sackcloth, and terror will
overwhelm them. Shame will cover all their
faces, and all their heads will be
shaved.
My
face will I turn also from them, and they shall
pollute my secret place: for the robbers shall enter into it, and
defile it.
I will turn My
face away from them, and they will
defile My
treasured place. Violent men will enter it, and they will
defile it.
And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD’S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the
porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their
faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.
So He brought me to the inner court of the house of the LORD, and there at the entrance to the temple of the LORD, between the
portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs to the temple of the LORD and their
faces toward the east; and they were bowing to the east in worship of the sun.
And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer’s
inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the
brasen altar.
And I saw six men coming from the direction of the Upper Gate, which
faces north, each with a weapon of slaughter in his hand. With them was another man clothed in linen who had a writing
kit at his side. And they came in and stood beside the bronze altar.
And it came to pass, while they were
slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my
face, and
cried, and said,
Ah Lord GOD!
wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy
fury upon Jerusalem?
While they were killing, I was left alone. And I fell
facedown and
cried out, “Oh, Lord GOD, when You pour out Your wrath on Jerusalem, will You destroy the entire
remnant of Israel?”
When they went, they went upon their four sides; they turned not as they went, but to the place
whither the head looked they followed it; they turned not as they went.
When they moved, they would go in any of the four directions, without turning as they moved. For wherever the head
faced, the
cherubim would go in that direction, without turning as they moved.
And every one had four
faces: the first
face was the
face of a
cherub, and the second
face was the
face of a man, and the third the
face of a lion, and the fourth the
face of an eagle.
Each of the
cherubim had four
faces: the first
face was that of a
cherub, the second that of a man, the third that of a lion, and the fourth that of an eagle.
Every one had four
faces apiece, and every one four wings; and the likeness of the hands of a man was under their wings.
Each had four faces and four wings, with what looked like human hands under their wings.
