Yea, and all the prophets
from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise
foretold of these days.
Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have proclaimed these days.
Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to
bless you, in turning away every one of you
from his
iniquities.
When God raised up His Servant, He sent Him first to you to
bless you by turning each of you
from your wicked ways.”

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, whom ye
crucified, whom God raised
from the dead, even by him
doth this man stand here before you whole.
then let this be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, whom you
crucified but whom God raised
from the dead, that this man stands before you
healed.
But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly
threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
But to keep this message
from spreading any further among the people, we must
warn them not to speak to
anyone in this name.”
Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
There were no
needy ones among them, because those who owned lands or houses would sell their property, bring the proceeds
from the sales,
But Peter said,
Ananias, why hath
Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
Then Peter said, “
Ananias, how is it that
Satan has filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and
withhold some of the proceeds
from the land?
There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick
folks, and them which were
vexed with unclean spirits: and they were
healed every one.
Crowds also gathered
from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those
tormented by unclean spirits, and all of them were
healed.
And now I say unto you,
Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to
nought:
So in the present case I
advise you: Leave these men alone. Let them go! For if their purpose or
endeavor is of human origin, it will fail.
But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest
haply ye be found even to fight against God.
But if it is
from God, you will not be able to stop them. You may even find
yourselves fighting against God.”

from the presence of the council,
rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

rejoicing that they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.
And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and
preach Jesus Christ.
Every day, in the temple courts and
from house to house, they did not stop teaching and
proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.
Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of
honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may
appoint over this business.
Therefore, brothers, select
from among you seven men confirmed to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will
appoint this
responsibility to them
And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and
Timon, and Parmenas, and
Nicolas a
proselyte of Antioch:
This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, as well as Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor,
Timon, Parmenas, and
Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to
Judaism.
Then there arose certain of the
synagogue, which is called the
synagogue of the
Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of
Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
But resistance arose
from what was called the
Synagogue of the
Freedmen, including Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and men
from the provinces of
Cilicia and Asia. They began to
argue with Stephen,
And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and
from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall
shew thee.
and told him, ‘Leave your country and your kindred and go to the land I will show you.’
Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.
So Abraham left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in
Haran. After his father died, God brought him out of that place and into this land where you are now living.
And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

rescued him
from all his troubles. He granted Joseph favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt, who appointed him ruler over Egypt and all his household.

sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.
Their bones were carried back to

from the sons of Hamor at
Shechem for a price he paid in silver.
Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy
shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.
Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your
sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.
This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.
This is the same Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.’
To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
But our fathers refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.
Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: ‘Did you bring Me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
As for Saul, he made
havock of the church, entering into every house, and
haling men and women committed them to prison.
But Saul began to destroy the church. Going
from house to house, he
dragged off men and women and put them in prison.
To whom they all gave
heed,

from the least to the greatest,
heeded his words and said, “This man is the divine power called the Great Power.”
And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down
from Jerusalem unto

Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Get up and go south to the desert road that goes down
from Jerusalem to
Gaza.”
In his
humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken
from the earth.
In His
humiliation He was deprived of justice. Who can recount His descendants? For His life was removed
from the earth.”
And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the
eunuch said, See, here is water; what
doth hinder me to be
baptized?
As they traveled along the road and came to some water, the
eunuch said, “Look, here is water! What is there to prevent me
from being
baptized?”
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there
shined round about him a light
from heaven:
As Saul drew near to Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light
from heaven
flashed around him.
And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.
Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could not see a thing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus.
And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and
enquire in the house of
Judas for one called Saul, of
Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,
“Get up!” the Lord told him. “Go to the house of
Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man
from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.
And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.
And now he is here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on Your name.”
And immediately there fell
from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight
forthwith, and arose, and was
baptized.
At that instant, something like scales fell
from Saul’s eyes, and his sight was restored. He got up and was
baptized,
And when the angel which spake unto
Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a
devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
When the angel who spoke to him had gone,
Cornelius called two of his servants and a
devout soldier
from among his attendants.
Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent
from Cornelius had made
enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,
While Peter was
puzzling over the meaning of the vision, the men sent by
Cornelius found Simon’s house and approached the gate.
Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him
from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
So Peter went down to the men and said, “Here am I, the one you are looking for. Why have you come?”
And they said,
Cornelius the
centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was
warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
“
Cornelius the
centurion has sent us,” they said. “He is a righteous and God-fearing man with a good reputation among the whole Jewish nation. A holy angel
instructed him to request your presence in his home so he could hear a message
from you.”
Then called he them in, and
lodged them. And on the
morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren
from Joppa accompanied him.
So Peter invited them in as his guests. And the next day he got ready and went with them, accompanied by some of the brothers
from Joppa.
But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
but welcomes those from every nation who fear Him and do what is right.
That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began
from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
You
yourselves know what has happened throughout
Judea, beginning in
Galilee with the baptism that John proclaimed:
Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
not by all the people, but by the witnesses God had chosen
beforehand, by us who
ate and
drank with Him after He rose
from the dead.
But Peter
rehearsed the matter
from the beginning, and
expounded it by order unto them, saying,
But Peter began and explained to them the whole
sequence of events:
I was in the city of
Joppa praying: and in a
trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down
from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:
“I was in the city of
Joppa praying, and in a
trance I saw a vision of something like a large sheet being let down
from heaven by its four corners, and it came right down to me.
But the voice answered me again
from heaven, What God hath
cleansed, that call not thou common.
But the voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’
And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.
Just then three men sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying.
And some of them were men of
Cyprus and
Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.
But some of them, men
from Cyprus and
Cyrene, went to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks as well,
proclaiming the good news about the Lord Jesus.
And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.
In those days some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.
And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light
shined in the prison: and he
smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off
from his hands.
Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light
shone in the cell. He
tapped Peter on the side and
woke him up, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his wrists.
When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own
accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and
forthwith the angel departed
from him.
They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city, which opened for them by itself. When they had gone outside and walked the length of one block, the angel suddenly left him.
And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a
surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and
from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know for sure that the Lord has sent His angel and
rescued me
from Herod’s
grasp and
from everything the Jewish people were
anticipating.”
And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.
After Herod had searched for him unsuccessfully, he examined the guards and ordered that they be executed. Then he went down
from Judea to Caesarea and spent some time there.
And
Barnabas and Saul returned
from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose
surname was Mark.
When
Barnabas and Saul had fulfilled their mission to Jerusalem, they returned, bringing with them John, also called Mark.
So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto
Seleucia; and
from thence they sailed to
Cyprus.
But Elymas the
sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation)
withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy
from the faith.
But Elymas the
sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the
proconsul from the faith.
Now when Paul and his company loosed
from Paphos, they came to Perga in
Pamphylia: and John departing
from them returned to Jerusalem.
After setting sail
from Paphos, Paul and his companions came to Perga in
Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem.
But when they departed
from Perga, they came to Antioch in
Pisidia, and went into the
synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
And
from Perga, they traveled inland to Pisidian Antioch, where they entered the
synagogue on the Sabbath and sat down.
And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the
synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of
exhortation for the people, say on.
After the reading
from the Law and the Prophets, the
synagogue leaders sent word to them: “Brothers, if you have a word of encouragement for the people, please speak.”
And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
Then the people asked for a king, and God gave them forty years under Saul son of
Kish,
from the tribe of Benjamin.
Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
From the descendants of this man, God has brought to Israel the
Savior Jesus, as He promised.
And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down
from the tree, and laid him in a
sepulchre.
When they had carried out all that was written about Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb.
But God raised him from the dead:
But God raised Him from the dead,
And he was seen many days of them which came up with him
from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.
and for many days He was seen by those who had accompanied Him
from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now His witnesses to our people.
And as concerning that he raised him up
from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure
mercies of David.
In fact, God raised Him from the dead, never to see decay. As He has said: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.’
But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
But the One whom God raised from the dead did not see decay.
And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
Through Him
everyone who believes is justified
from everything you could not be justified
from by the law of Moses.
Then Paul and
Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it
from you, and judge
yourselves unworthy of
everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
Then Paul and
Barnabas answered them boldly: “It was necessary to speak the word of God to you first. But since you
reject it and do not consider
yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.
In
Lystra there sat a man
crippled in his feet, who was
lame from birth and had never walked.
And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and
preach unto you that ye should turn
from these
vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:
“Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them.
Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain
from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and
gladness.
Yet He has not left Himself without testimony to His goodness: He gives you rain
from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and
gladness.”
And with these sayings
scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.
Even with these words, Paul and
Barnabas could hardly stop the crowds
from sacrificing to them.
And there came thither certain Jews
from Antioch and
Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.
Then some Jews arrived
from Antioch and
Iconium and won over the crowds. They stoned Paul and
dragged him outside the city, presuming he was dead.
And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.
From Attalia they sailed to Antioch, where they had been
commended to the grace of God for the work they had just completed.
And certain men which came down
from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be
circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
Then some men came down
from Judea and were teaching the brothers, “Unless you are
circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”
But there rose up certain of the sect of the
Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to
circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
But some believers
from the party of the
Pharisees stood up and declared, “The Gentiles must be
circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses.”
And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
After much discussion, Peter got up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you that the Gentiles would hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe.
Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
Simon has told us how God first visited the Gentiles to take from them a people to be His own.
Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
that have been known for ages.’
Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not cause trouble for the Gentiles who are turning to God.
But that we write unto them, that they
abstain from pollutions of idols, and
from fornication, and
from things
strangled, and
from blood.
Instead, we should write and tell them to
abstain from food
polluted by idols,
from sexual immorality,
from the meat of
strangled animals, and
from blood.
For Moses of old time hath in every city them that
preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
For Moses has been proclaimed in every city from ancient times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”
Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and
Barnabas; namely,
Judas surnamed Barsabas, and
Silas, chief men among the brethren:
Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to select men
from among them to send to Antioch with Paul and
Barnabas. They chose
Judas called Barsabbas and
Silas, two leaders among the brothers,
Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out
from us have troubled you with words,
subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be
circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
It has come to our attention that some went out
from us without our
authorization and unsettled you, troubling your minds by what they said.
You must
abstain from food sacrificed to idols,
from blood,
from the meat of
strangled animals, and
from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.
Farewell.
And after they had
tarried there a space, they were let go in peace
from the brethren unto the apostles.
After
spending some time there, they were sent off by the brothers in peace to return to those who had sent them.
But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed
from them
from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
But Paul thought it best not to take him, because he had deserted them in
Pamphylia and had not accompanied them in the work.
Their disagreement was so sharp that they parted company.
Barnabas took Mark and sailed for
Cyprus,
And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
As they went from town to town, they delivered the decisions handed down by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey.
Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of
Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to
preach the word in Asia,
After the Holy Spirit had prevented them
from speaking the word in the province of Asia, they traveled through the region of Phrygia and
Galatia.
Therefore loosing
from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;
We sailed
from Troas straight to
Samothrace, and the following day on to Neapolis.
And
from thence to
Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of
Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city
abiding certain days.
From there we went to the Roman colony of
Philippi, the leading city of that district of
Macedonia. And we stayed there several days.
And a certain woman named
Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of
Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
Among those
listening was a woman named
Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth
from the city of
Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to
respond to Paul’s message.
And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
As was his custom, Paul went into the
synagogue, and on three Sabbaths he reasoned with them
from the Scriptures,
Opening and
alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again
from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I
preach unto you, is Christ.
explaining and proving that the Christ had to suffer and rise
from the dead. “This Jesus I am
proclaiming to you is the Christ,” he declared.
But the Jews which believed not, moved with
envy, took unto them certain
lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an
uproar, and
assaulted the house of
Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
The Jews, however, became
jealous. So they brought in some troublemakers
from the marketplace, formed a
mob, and sent the city into an
uproar. They
raided Jason’s house in search of Paul and
Silas, hoping to bring them out to the people.
And when they had taken security of
Jason, and of the other, they let them go.
And they collected bond
from Jason and the others, and then released them.
But when the Jews of
Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at
Berea, they came thither also, and
stirred up the people.
And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their
habitation;
From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands.
That they should seek the Lord, if
haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far
from every one of us:
God intended that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.
