When thy sisters,
Sodom and
her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and
her daughters shall return to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate.
And your sisters,
Sodom with
her daughters and Samaria with
her daughters, will return to their former state. You and your daughters will also return to your former state.
Before thy wickedness was discovered, as at the time of thy reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all that are round about
her, the daughters of the Philistines, which
despise thee round about.
before your wickedness was uncovered? Even so, you are now
scorned by the daughters of
Edom and all those around
her, and by the daughters of the Philistines—all those around you who
despise you.
There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend
her roots toward him, and shot forth
her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of
her plantation.
But there was another great eagle with great wings and many feathers. And behold, this vine bent its roots toward him. It stretched out its branches to him from its planting bed, so that he might water it.
Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it
prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of
her spring, even without great power or many people to
pluck it up by the roots thereof.
So you are to tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Will it
flourish? Will it not be uprooted and
stripped of its fruit so that it shrivels? All its foliage will wither! It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it up by its roots.
And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath
defiled his neighbour’s wife, neither hath come near to a
menstruous woman,
He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not
defile his
neighbor’s wife or approach a woman during
her period.
And say, What is thy mother? A
lioness: she lay down among lions, she
nourished her whelps among young lions.
and say: ‘What was your mother? A
lioness among the lions! She lay down among the young lions; she reared
her cubs.
And she brought up one of
her whelps: it became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey; it
devoured men.
She brought up one of
her cubs, and he became a young lion. After learning to
tear his prey, he
devoured men.
Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion.
When she saw that she had waited in vain, that her hope was lost, she took another of her cubs and made him a young lion.
And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and
her stature was
exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in
her height with the multitude of
her branches.
It had strong branches, fit for a ruler’s
scepter. It towered high above the thick branches, conspicuous for its height and for its dense foliage.
But she was
plucked up in
fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up
her fruit:
her strong rods were broken and
withered; the fire consumed them.
But it was uprooted in
fury, cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit. Its strong branches were
stripped off and they
withered; the fire consumed them.
And fire is gone out of a rod of
her branches, which hath
devoured her fruit, so that she hath no strong rod to be a
sceptre to rule. This is a
lamentation, and shall be for a
lamentation.
Fire has gone out from its main branch and
devoured its fruit; on it no strong branch remains fit for a ruler’s
scepter.’ This is a
lament and shall be used as a
lament.”
As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and
hereafter also, if ye will not
hearken unto me: but
pollute ye my holy name no more with your gifts, and with your idols.
And as for you, O house of Israel, this is what the Lord GOD says: Go and serve your idols, every one of you. But afterward, you will surely
listen to Me, and you will no longer
defile My holy name with your gifts and idols.
And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his
sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.
and tell
her that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am against you, and I will draw My sword from its
sheath and cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked.
Now, thou son of man,
wilt thou judge,
wilt thou judge the
bloody city?
yea, thou shalt
shew her all
her abominations.
“As for you, son of man, will you judge
her? Will you pass judgment on the city of
bloodshed? Then
confront her with all
her abominations
Then say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD, The city sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that
her time may come, and maketh idols against
herself to
defile herself.
and tell
her that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘O city who brings
her own
doom by
shedding blood within
her walls and making idols to
defile herself,
In thee have they discovered their fathers’ nakedness: in thee have they humbled
her that was set apart for
pollution.
In you they have uncovered the nakedness of their fathers; in you they
violate women during their
menstrual impurity.
Son of man, say unto
her, Thou art the land that is not
cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of
indignation.
“Son of man, say to
her, ‘In the day of
indignation, you are a land that has not been
cleansed, upon which no rain has fallen.’
There is a
conspiracy of
her prophets in the midst thereof, like a
roaring lion
ravening the prey; they have
devoured souls; they have taken the
treasure and precious things; they have made
her many widows in the midst thereof.
The
conspiracy of the princes in
her midst is like a
roaring lion
tearing its prey. They
devour the people, seize the treasures and precious things, and multiply the widows within
her.
Her priests have
violated my law, and have
profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and
profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have
hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am
profaned among them.
Her priests do violence to My law and
profane My holy things. They make no distinction between the holy and the common, and they fail to distinguish between the clean and the unclean. They disregard My Sabbaths, so that I am
profaned among them.
Her princes in the midst thereof are like
wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get
dishonest gain.
And
her prophets have
daubed them with untempered
morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken.
Her prophets
whitewash these deeds by false visions and lying divinations, saying, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’ when the LORD has not spoken.
And the names of them were Aholah the elder, and
Aholibah her sister: and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem
Aholibah.
The older was named Oholah, and
her sister was named Oholibah. They became Mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. As for their
identities, Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem.
And Aholah played the
harlot when she was mine; and she
doted on
her lovers, on the Assyrians
her neighbours,
Oholah
prostituted herself while she was still Mine. She
lusted after
her lovers, the Assyrians—warriors
Thus she committed
her whoredoms with them, with all them that were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all on whom she
doted: with all their idols she
defiled herself.
She offered sexual favors to all the
elite of Assyria. She
defiled herself with all the idols of those for whom she
lusted.
Neither left she
her whoredoms brought from Egypt: for in
her youth they lay with
her, and they
bruised the breasts of
her virginity, and poured their
whoredom upon
her.
Wherefore I have delivered
her into the hand of
her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, upon whom she
doted.
Therefore I delivered
her into the hands of
her lovers, the Assyrians for whom she
lusted.
These discovered
her nakedness: they took
her sons and
her daughters, and
slew her with the sword: and she became famous among women; for they had executed judgment upon
her.
They exposed
her nakedness, seized
her sons and daughters, and put
her to the sword. Thus she became a
byword among women, and they executed judgment against
her.
And when
her sister
Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in
her inordinate love than she, and in
her whoredoms more than
her sister in
her whoredoms.
She
doted upon the Assyrians
her neighbours, captains and rulers clothed most
gorgeously,
horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men.
She too
lusted after the Assyrians—governors and commanders, warriors dressed in
splendor,
horsemen riding on steeds, all desirable young men.
Then I saw that she was
defiled, that they took both one way,
And I saw that she too had
defiled herself; both of them had taken the same path.
And that she increased
her whoredoms: for when she saw men pourtrayed upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans pourtrayed with
vermilion,
And as soon as she saw them with
her eyes, she
doted upon them, and sent messengers unto them into
Chaldea.
At the sight of them, she
lusted for them and sent messengers to them in
Chaldea.
And the Babylonians came to
her into the bed of love, and they
defiled her with their
whoredom, and she was
polluted with them, and
her mind was
alienated from them.
Then the Babylonians came to
her, to the bed of love, and in their
lust they
defiled her. But after she had been
defiled by them, she turned away in
disgust.
So she discovered
her whoredoms, and discovered
her nakedness: then my mind was
alienated from
her, like as my mind was
alienated from
her sister.
When Oholibah openly
prostituted herself and exposed
her nakedness, I turned away from
her in
disgust, just as I had turned away from
her sister.
Yet she multiplied
her whoredoms, in calling to
remembrance the days of
her youth, wherein she had played the
harlot in the land of Egypt.
Yet she multiplied
her promiscuity, remembering the days of
her youth, when she had
prostituted herself in the land of Egypt
Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thine hand.
Because you have followed the path of your sister, I will put her cup into your hand.’
And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with
her: and with the men of the common sort were brought
Sabeans from the wilderness, which put bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns upon their heads.
accompanied by the sound of a carefree crowd. Drunkards were brought in from the desert along with men from the
rabble, who put bracelets on your wrists and beautiful crowns on your head.
Then said I unto
her that was old in
adulteries, Will they now commit whoredoms with
her, and she with them?
Then I said of
her who had grown old in
adulteries: ‘Now let them use
her as a
prostitute, for that is all she is!’
Yet they went in unto
her, as they go in unto a woman that playeth the
harlot: so went they in unto Aholah and unto
Aholibah, the
lewd women.
For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the top of a rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust;
For the blood she shed is still within her; she poured it out on the bare rock; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it with dust.
That it might cause
fury to come up to take
vengeance; I have set
her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered.
In order to
stir up wrath and take
vengeance, I have placed
her blood on the bare rock, so that it would not be covered.’
She hath
wearied herself with lies, and
her great
scum went not forth out of
her:
her scum shall be in the fire.
It has
frustrated every effort; its thick
rust has not been removed, even by the fire.
And they shall destroy the walls of Tyrus, and break down
her towers: I will also
scrape her dust from
her, and make
her like the top of a rock.
They will destroy the walls of Tyre and
demolish her towers. I will
scrape the soil from
her and make
her a bare rock.
And her daughters which are in the field shall be slain by the sword; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
and the villages on her mainland will be slain by the sword. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’
And they shall take up a
lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that
wast inhabited of
seafaring men, the
renowned city, which
wast strong in the sea, she and
her inhabitants, which cause their terror to be on all that
haunt it!
Then they will
lament for you, saying, “How you have perished, O city of
renown inhabited by
seafaring men— she who was powerful on the sea, along with
her people, who imposed terror on all peoples!
Son of man, set thy face against Zidon, and
prophesy against it,
“Son of man, set your face against
Sidon and
prophesy against
her.
And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Zidon; and I will be
glorified in the midst of thee: and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in
her, and shall be
sanctified in
her.
And you are to declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I am against you, O
Sidon, and I will be
glorified within you. They will know that I am the LORD when I
execute judgments against
her and
demonstrate My
holiness through
her.
For I will send into
her pestilence, and blood into
her street; and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of
her by the sword upon
her on every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
I will send a plague against her and shed blood in her streets; the slain will fall within her, while the sword is against her on every side. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
And I will make the land of Egypt
desolate in the midst of the countries that are
desolate, and
her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be
desolate forty years: and I will
scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will
disperse them through the countries.
I will make the land of Egypt a
desolation among
desolate lands, and
her cities will lie
desolate for forty years among the ruined cities. And I will
disperse the Egyptians among the nations and
scatter them throughout the countries.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take
her multitude, and take
her spoil, and take
her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I will give the land of Egypt to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who will carry off its wealth, seize its
spoil, and remove its
plunder. This will be the wages for his army.
And the sword shall come upon Egypt, and great pain shall be in
Ethiopia, when the slain shall fall in Egypt, and they shall take away
her multitude, and
her foundations shall be broken down.
A sword will come against Egypt, and there will be
anguish in
Cush when the slain fall in Egypt, its wealth is taken away, and its foundations are
torn down.
Thus saith the LORD; They also that
uphold Egypt shall fall; and the pride of
her power shall come down: from the tower of
Syene shall they fall in it by the sword, saith the Lord GOD.
For this is what the LORD says: The allies of Egypt will fall, and
her proud strength will
collapse. From
Migdol to
Syene they will fall by the sword within
her, declares the Lord GOD.
And they shall be
desolate in the midst of the countries that are
desolate, and
her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are wasted.
They will be
desolate among
desolate lands, and their cities will lie among ruined cities.
And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have set a fire in Egypt, and when all her helpers shall be destroyed.
Then they will know that I am the LORD when I set fire to Egypt and all
her helpers are
shattered.
At Tehaphnehes also the day shall be
darkened, when I shall break there the yokes of Egypt: and the
pomp of
her strength shall cease in
her: as for
her, a cloud shall cover
her, and
her daughters shall go into captivity.
The day will be
darkened in Tahpanhes when I break the yoke of Egypt and
her proud strength comes to an end. A cloud will cover
her, and
her daughters will go into captivity.
The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.
The waters made it grow; the deep springs made it tall, directing their streams all around its base and sending their channels to all the trees of the field.
And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.
When I
extinguish you, I will cover the heavens and
darken their stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light.
By the swords of the mighty will I cause thy multitude to fall, the terrible of the nations, all of them: and they shall
spoil the
pomp of Egypt, and all the multitude thereof shall be destroyed.
I will make your hordes fall by the swords of the mighty, the most
ruthless of all nations. They will
ravage the pride of Egypt and all
her multitudes will be destroyed.
I will destroy also all the beasts thereof from beside the great waters; neither shall the foot of man trouble them any more, nor the
hoofs of beasts trouble them.
I will slaughter all
her cattle beside the abundant waters. No human foot will
muddy them again, and no cattle
hooves will
disturb them.
Then will I make their waters deep, and cause their rivers to run like oil, saith the Lord GOD.
Then I will let her waters settle and will make her rivers flow like oil,’ declares the Lord GOD.
This is the
lamentation wherewith they shall
lament her: the daughters of the nations shall
lament her: they shall
lament for
her, even for Egypt, and for all
her multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
This is the
lament they will
chant for
her; the daughters of the nations will
chant it. Over Egypt and all
her multitudes they will
chant it, declares the Lord GOD.”
Son of man,
wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even
her, and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the
nether parts of the earth, with them that go down into the pit.
“Son of man,
wail for the multitudes of Egypt, and
consign her and the daughters of the mighty nations to the depths of the earth with those who descend to the Pit:
They shall fall in the midst of them that are slain by the sword: she is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes.
They will fall among those slain by the sword. The sword is appointed! Let them
drag her away along with all
her multitudes.
The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of
hell with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie
uncircumcised, slain by the sword.
Mighty chiefs will speak from the midst of
Sheol about Egypt and
her allies: ‘They have come down and lie with the
uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword.’
Asshur is there and all her company: his graves are about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword:
Assyria is there with her whole company; her graves are all around her. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword.
Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land of the living.
Her graves are set in the depths of the Pit, and her company is all around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword— those who once spread terror in the land of the living.
There is
Elam and all
her multitude round about
her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which are gone down
uncircumcised into the
nether parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.
Elam is there with all
her multitudes around
her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword— those who went down
uncircumcised to the earth below, who once spread their terror in the land of the living. They bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit.
They have set
her a bed in the midst of the slain with all
her multitude:
her graves are round about him: all of them
uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put in the midst of them that be slain.
Among the slain they prepare a resting place for
Elam with all
her hordes, with
her graves all around
her. All of them are
uncircumcised, slain by the sword, although their terror was once spread in the land of the living. They bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit. They are placed among the slain.
There is
Meshech,
Tubal, and all
her multitude:
her graves are round about him: all of them
uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living.
Meshech and
Tubal are there with all their multitudes, with their graves all around them. All of them are
uncircumcised, slain by the sword, because they spread their terror in the land of the living.
There is
Edom,
her kings, and all
her princes, which with their might are laid by them that were slain by the sword: they shall lie with the
uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit.
Edom is there, and all
her kings and princes, who
despite their might are laid among those slain by the sword. They lie down with the
uncircumcised, with those who descend to the Pit.
For I will lay the land most
desolate, and the
pomp of
her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be
desolate, that none shall pass through.
I will make the land a
desolate waste, and the pride of
her strength will come to an end. The mountains of Israel will become
desolate, so that no one will pass through.
And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them.
The trees of the field will give their fruit, and the land will yield its produce; My flock will be secure in their land. Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bars of their yoke and delivered them from the hands that
enslaved them.
As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
Like the numerous flocks for sacrifices at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so the ruined cities will be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall
shew thee; for to the intent that I might
shew them unto thee art thou brought
hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.
“Son of man,” he said to me, “look with your eyes, hear with your ears, and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for that is why you have been brought here. Report to the house of Israel everything you see.”
And thou shalt give to the priests the Levites that be of the seed of
Zadok, which approach unto me, to minister unto me, saith the Lord GOD, a young
bullock for a sin offering.
You are to give a young bull from the
herd as a sin offering to the
Levitical priests who are of the family of
Zadok, who approach Me to minister before Me, declares the Lord GOD.
Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take maidens of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before.
And they shall not marry a widow or a
divorced woman, but must marry a virgin of the descendants of the house of Israel, or a widow of a priest.
As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass
hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
As you lay on your bed, O king, your thoughts turned to the future, and the
Revealer of Mysteries made known to you what will happen.
Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it
brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass
hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
And just as you saw a stone being cut out of the mountain without human hands, and it
shattered the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold, so the great God has told the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation is
trustworthy.”
Then an
herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,
Then the
herald loudly proclaimed, “O people of every nation and language, this is what you are commanded:
I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men
tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and
stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
I
hereby decree that in every part of my kingdom, men are to
tremble in fear before the God of Daniel: For He is the living God, and He endures
forever; His kingdom will never be destroyed, and His dominion will never end.
And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought
her, and he that
begat her, and he that strengthened
her in these times.
After some years they will form an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the South will go to the king of the North to seal the agreement. But his daughter will not retain
her position of power, nor will his strength
endure. At that time she will be given up, along with
her royal
escort and
her father and the one who supported
her.
But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail:
But one from her family line will rise up in his place, come against the army of the king of the North, and enter his fortress, fighting and prevailing.
He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him.
He will
resolve to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and will reach an agreement with the king of the South. He will give him a daughter in marriage in order to overthrow the kingdom, but his plan will not succeed or help him.
And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.
Gomer again conceived and gave birth to a daughter, and the LORD said to
Hosea, “Name
her Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer have
compassion on the house of Israel, that I should ever
forgive them.
Plead with your mother,
plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I
her husband: let
her therefore put away
her whoredoms out of
her sight, and
her adulteries from between
her breasts;
Rebuke your mother,
rebuke her, for she is not My wife, and I am not
her husband. Let
her remove the
adultery from
her face and the unfaithfulness from between
her breasts.
Lest I strip
her naked, and set
her as in the day that she was born, and make
her as a wilderness, and set
her like a dry land, and
slay her with
thirst.
Otherwise, I will strip
her naked and
expose her like the day of
her birth. I will make
her like a desert and turn
her into a
parched land, and I will let
her die of
thirst.
And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.
Therefore, behold, I will
hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find
her paths.
Therefore, behold, I will
hedge up
her path with thorns; I will
enclose her with a wall, so she cannot find
her way.
And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
She will pursue her lovers but not catch them; she will seek them but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will return to my first husband, for then I was better off than now.’
For she did not know that I gave
her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied
her silver and gold, which they prepared for
Baal.
For she does not acknowledge that it was I who gave
her grain, new wine, and oil, who
lavished on
her silver and gold— which they crafted for
Baal.
Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.
Therefore I will take back My grain in its time and My new wine in its season; I will take away My wool and linen, which were given to cover her nakedness.
And now will I discover
her lewdness in the sight of
her lovers, and none shall deliver
her out of mine hand.
And then I will
expose her lewdness in the sight of
her lovers, and no one will deliver
her out of My hands.
I will also cause all
her mirth to cease,
her feast days,
her new moons, and
her sabbaths, and all
her solemn feasts.
I will put an end to all
her exultation:
her feasts, New Moons, and Sabbaths— all
her appointed feasts.
And I will destroy
her vines and
her fig trees,
whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.
I will destroy
her vines and fig trees, which she thinks are the wages paid by
her lovers. So I will make them into a
thicket, and the beasts of the field will
devour them.
And I will visit upon
her the days of
Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked
herself with
her earrings and
her jewels, and she went after
her lovers, and
forgat me, saith the LORD.
I will
punish her for the days of the Baals when she burned incense to them, when she decked
herself with rings and
jewelry, and went after
her lovers. But Me she
forgot,” declares the LORD.
Therefore, behold, I will
allure her, and bring
her into the wilderness, and speak
comfortably unto
her.
“Therefore, behold, I will
allure her and lead
her to the wilderness, and speak to
her tenderly.
And I will give
her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of
Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of
her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.
There I will give back
her vineyards and make the Valley of
Achor into a
gateway of hope. There she will
respond as she did in the days of
her youth, as in the day she came up out of Egypt.
For I will take away the names of
Baalim out of
her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name.
For I will remove from
her lips the names of the Baals; no longer will their names be
invoked.
And I will
sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon
her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.
And I will
sow her as My own in the land, and I will have
compassion on ‘No
Compassion.’ I will say to those called ‘Not My People,’ ‘You are My people,’ and they will say, ‘You are my God.’”
Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of
her friend, yet an
adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.
Then the LORD said to me, “Go show love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an
adulteress. Love
her as the LORD loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and offer
raisin cakes to idols.”
