And there was a good way off from them an
herd of many
swine feeding.
In the distance a large
herd of pigs was feeding.
So the devils
besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the
herd of
swine.
So the demons
begged Jesus, “If You drive us out, send us into the
herd of pigs.”
And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the
herd of
swine: and, behold, the whole
herd of
swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
“Go!” He told them. So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole
herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and died in the waters.
While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.
While Jesus was saying these things, a
synagogue leader came and
knelt before Him. “My daughter has just died,” he said. “But come and place Your hand on
her, and she will live.”
For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.
She said to
herself, “If only I touch His
cloak, I will be
healed.”
But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
Jesus turned and saw
her. “Take courage, daughter,” He said, “your faith has
healed you.” And the woman was cured from that very hour.
But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took
her by the hand, and the
maid arose.
After the crowd had been put outside, Jesus went in and took the
girl by the hand, and she got up.
And the fame
hereof went abroad into all that land.
And the news about this spread throughout that region.
For I am come to set a man at
variance against his father, and the daughter against
her mother, and the daughter in law against
her mother in law.
For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man
gluttonous, and a
winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of
her children.
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at this
glutton and
drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is
vindicated by
her actions.”
But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
But I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.
Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall
shew judgment to the Gentiles.
“
Here is My Servant, whom I have chosen, My beloved, in whom My soul delights. I will put My Spirit on Him, and He will
proclaim justice to the nations.
The men of
Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall
condemn it: because they
repented at the preaching of
Jonas; and, behold, a greater than
Jonas is
here.
The men of
Nineveh will stand at the judgment with this generation and
condemn it; for they
repented at the preaching of
Jonah, and now One greater than
Jonah is
here.
The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall
condemn it: for she came from the
uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is
here.
The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and
condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and now One greater than Solomon is
here.
And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
Pointing to His disciples, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers.
Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among
herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and
lodge in the branches thereof.
Although it is the smallest of all seeds, yet it grows into the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”
At that time
Herod the
tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
At that time
Herod the
tetrarch heard the reports about Jesus
For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.
Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
because John had been telling him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”
And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
Although Herod wanted to kill John, he was afraid of the people, because they regarded John as a prophet.
But when
Herod’s
birthday was kept, the daughter of
Herodias danced before them, and pleased
Herod.
On
Herod’s
birthday, however, the daughter of
Herodias danced before them and pleased
Herod so much that he promised with an oath to give to her whatever she asked.
And she, being before
instructed of
her mother, said, Give me
here John Baptist’s head in a charger.
Prompted by
her mother, she said, “Give me
here on a
platter the head of John the Baptist.”
And the king was
sorry: nevertheless for the oath’s sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given
her.
The king was
grieved, but because of his oaths and his guests, he ordered that
her wish be granted
And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the
damsel: and she brought it to
her mother.
John’s head was brought in on a
platter and presented to the
girl, who carried it to
her mother.
And they say unto him, We have
here but five
loaves, and two fishes.
“We have
here only five
loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.
He said, Bring them
hither to me.
“Bring them here to Me,” Jesus said.
But he answered
her not a word. And his disciples came and
besought him, saying, Send
her away; for she crieth after us.
But Jesus did not answer a word. So His disciples came and urged Him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”
Then Jesus answered and said unto
her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou
wilt. And
her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
“O woman,” Jesus answered, “your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you desire.” And
her daughter was
healed from that very hour.
Verily I say unto you, There be some standing
here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”
Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be
here: if thou
wilt, let us make
here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be
here. If You wish, I will put up three shelters—one for You, one for Moses, and one for
Elijah.”
Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and
perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him
hither to me.
“O unbelieving and
perverse generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy
here to Me.”
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for
verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of
mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to
yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
“Because you have so little faith,” He answered. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a
mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from
here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of
divorcement, and to put
her away?
“Why then,” they asked, “did Moses order a man to give his wife a
certificate of
divorce and send
her away?”
Now I tell you that
whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman, commits
adultery.”
And about the
eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye
here all the day idle?
About the
eleventh hour he went out and found still others standing around. ‘Why have you been standing
here all day long doing nothing?’ he asked.
Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with
her sons,
worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with
her sons and
knelt down to make a request of Him.
And he said unto
her, What
wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.
“What do you want?” He inquired. She answered, “Declare that in Your kingdom one of these two sons of mine may sit at Your right hand, and the other at Your left.”
Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and
straightway ye shall find an
ass tied, and a
colt with
her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
saying to them, “Go into the village
ahead of you, and at once you will find a
donkey tied there, with
her colt beside
her.
Untie them and bring them to Me.
And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in
hither not having a
wedding garment? And he was speechless.
‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how did you get in
here without
wedding clothes?’ But the man was speechless.
And they sent out unto him their disciples with the
Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
They sent their disciples to Him along with the
Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are
honest and that You teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You seek favor from no one, because You pay no attention to external appearance.
Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be of the seven? For all of them were married to her.”
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a
hen gathereth
her chickens under
her wings, and ye would not!
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those sent to
her, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a
hen gathers
her chicks under
her wings, but you were unwilling!
And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things?
verily I say unto you, There shall not be left
here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
“Do you see all these things?” He replied. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
At that time, if
anyone says to you, ‘Look,
here is the Christ!’ or ‘There He is!’ do not believe it.
Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
So if they tell you, ‘There He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.
Immediately after the
tribulation of those days shall the sun be
darkened, and the moon shall not give
her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be
shaken:
Immediately after the
tribulation of those days: ‘The sun will be
darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be
shaken.’
And at
midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the
bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Verily I say unto you,
Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a
memorial of
her.
Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached in all the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”
Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called
Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye
here, while I go and pray
yonder.
At that time Jesus went with His disciples to a place called
Gethsemane, and He told them, “Sit
here while I go over there and pray.”
Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death:
tarry ye
here, and watch with me.
Then He said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.”
Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you,
Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
“You have said it
yourself,” Jesus answered. “But I say to all of you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
He is not here; He has risen, just as He said! Come, see the place where He lay.
But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and
anon they tell him of
her.
Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and they
promptly told Jesus about
her.
And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
So He went to her, took her by the hand, and helped her up. The fever left her, and she began to serve them.
And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
Looking at those seated in a circle around Him, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!
For the earth bringeth forth fruit of
herself; first the
blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
All by itself the earth produces a crop—first the
stalk, then the head, then grain that ripens within.
But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all
herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may
lodge under the shadow of it.
But after it is planted, it grows to be the largest of all garden plants and puts forth great branches, so that the birds of the air nest in its shade.”
Now there was there
nigh unto the mountains a great
herd of
swine feeding.
There on the nearby
hillside a large
herd of pigs was feeding.
And
forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the
swine: and the
herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were
choked in the sea.
He gave them permission, and the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs, and the
herd of about two thousand
rushed down the steep bank into the sea and
drowned in the water.
And
besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on
her, that she may be
healed; and she shall live.
and
pleaded with Him
urgently, “My little daughter is near death. Please come and place Your hands on
her, so that she will be
healed and live.”
And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
She had borne much
agony under the care of many physicians and had spent all she had, but to no
avail. Instead,
her condition had only grown worse.
And
straightway the fountain of
her blood was dried up; and she felt in
her body that she was
healed of that plague.
And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
But He kept looking around to see who had done this.
But the woman fearing and
trembling, knowing what was done in
her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
Then the woman, knowing what had happened to
her, came and fell down before Him
trembling in fear, and she told Him the whole truth.
And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
“Daughter,” said Jesus, “your faith has
healed you. Go in peace and be free of your
affliction.”
And he took the
damsel by the hand, and said unto
her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted,
Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
Taking
her by the hand, Jesus said, “Talitha koum!” which means, “Little
girl, I say to you, get up!”
And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
Then Jesus gave strict orders that no one should know about this, and He told them to give her something to eat.
Is not this the
carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters
here with us? And they were
offended at him.
Isn’t this the
carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joses,
Judas, and Simon? Aren’t His sisters
here with us as well?” And they took
offense at Him.
And king
Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do
shew forth themselves in him.
Now King
Herod heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known, and people were saying, “John the Baptist has risen from the dead! That is why
miraculous powers are at work in him.”
But when
Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I
beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
But when
Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I
beheaded, has risen from the dead!”
For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her.
For Herod himself had ordered that John be arrested and bound and imprisoned, on account of his brother Philip’s wife Herodias, whom Herod had married.
For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.
For John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife!”
Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:
So
Herodias held a
grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she had been unable,
For
Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him
gladly.
because
Herod feared John and protected him, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man. When he heard John’s words, he was greatly
perplexed; yet he
listened to him
gladly.
And when a convenient day was come, that
Herod on his
birthday made a
supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of
Galilee;
On
Herod’s
birthday,
her opportunity arose.
Herod held a
banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of
Galilee.
And when the daughter of the said
Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased
Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the
damsel, Ask of me
whatsoever thou
wilt, and I will give it thee.
When the daughter of
Herodias came and danced, she pleased
Herod and his guests, and the king said to the
girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.”
And he
sware unto
her,
Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
And he
swore to
her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom!”
And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
Then she went out and asked her mother, “What should I request?” And her mother answered, “The head of John the Baptist.”
And she came in
straightway with
haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
At once the
girl hurried back to the king with
her request: “I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist on a
platter immediately.”
And the king was exceeding
sorry; yet for his oath’s sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not
reject her.
The king was consumed with sorrow, but because of his oaths and his guests, he did not want to refuse her.
And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the
damsel: and the
damsel gave it to
her mother.
The man brought John’s head on a
platter and presented it to the
girl, who gave it to
her mother.
The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she
besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of
her daughter.
Now she was a Greek woman of Syrophoenician origin, and she kept asking Jesus to drive the
demon out of
her daughter.
But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.
“First let the children have their fill,” He said. “For it is not right to take the children’s bread and
toss it to the dogs.”
And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.
Then Jesus told
her, “Because of this answer, you may go. The
demon has left your daughter.”
And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.
And she went home and found
her child lying on the bed, and the
demon was gone.
And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
His disciples replied, “Where in this
desolate place could
anyone find enough bread to feed all these people?”
And he said unto them,
Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand
here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.
Then Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God arrive with power.”
And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
Peter said to Jesus, “
Rabbi, it is good for us to be
here. Let us put up three shelters—one for You, one for Moses, and one for
Elijah.”
And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of
divorcement, and to put
her away.
They answered, “Moses permitted a man to write his wife a
certificate of
divorce and send
her away.”
And he saith unto them,
Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth
adultery against
her.
So He told them, “
Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits
adultery against
her.
And if a woman shall put away
her husband, and be married to another, she committeth
adultery.
And if a woman divorces
her husband and marries another man, she commits
adultery.”
And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a
colt tied,
whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.
and said to them, “Go into the village
ahead of you, and as soon as you enter it, you will find a
colt tied there, on which no one has ever sat.
Untie it and bring it
here.
And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee
hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
Then He said to the tree, “May no one ever eat of your fruit again.” And His disciples heard this statement.
And they send unto him certain of the
Pharisees and of the
Herodians, to catch him in his words.
And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.
Then the second one married the widow, but he also died and left no children. And the third did likewise.
And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.
In this way, none of the seven left any children. And last of all, the woman died.
In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.
In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be? For all seven were married to her.”
