But thou art cast out of thy grave
like an
abominable branch, and as the
raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a
carcase trodden under feet.
But you are cast out of your grave
like a rejected branch, covered by those slain with the sword, and
dumped into a rocky pit
like a
carcass trampled underfoot.
For it shall be, that, as a wandering bird cast out of the nest, so the daughters of Moab shall be at the fords of
Arnon.
Like fluttering birds pushed out of the nest, so are the daughters of Moab at the fords of the
Arnon:
Wherefore my
bowels shall sound
like an
harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kir-haresh.
Therefore my heart laments for Moab
like a
harp, my inmost being for Kir-heres.
The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the
remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.
The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the sovereignty from Damascus. The
remnant of
Aram will be
like the
splendor of the Israelites,” declares the LORD of Hosts.
Yet
gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the
shaking of an olive tree, two or three
berries in the top of the
uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.
Yet gleanings will remain,
like an olive tree that has been beaten— two or three
berries atop the tree, four or five on its fruitful branches,” declares the LORD, the God of Israel.
In that day shall his strong cities be as a
forsaken bough, and an
uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be
desolation.
In that day their strong cities will be
like forsaken thickets and summits, abandoned to the Israelites and to utter
desolation.
Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise
like the noise of the seas; and to the
rushing of nations, that make a
rushing like the
rushing of mighty waters!
The nations shall
rush like the
rushing of many waters: but God shall
rebuke them, and they shall
flee far off, and shall be
chased as the
chaff of the mountains before the wind, and
like a rolling thing before the
whirlwind.
The nations
rage like the
rush of many waters. He rebukes them, and they
flee far away, driven before the wind
like chaff on the hills,
like tumbleweeds before a
gale.
For so the LORD said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place
like a clear heat upon herbs, and
like a cloud of
dew in the heat of harvest.
For this is what the LORD has told me: “I will quietly look on from My dwelling place,
like shimmering heat in the
sunshine,
like a cloud of
dew in the heat of harvest.”
In that day shall Egypt be
like unto women: and it shall be afraid and fear because of the
shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shaketh over it.
In that day the Egyptians will be
like women. They will
tremble with fear beneath the
uplifted hand of the LORD of Hosts, when He brandishes it against them.
And the LORD said,
Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and
barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon
Ethiopia;
Then the LORD said, “Just as My servant Isaiah has gone naked and
barefoot for three years as a sign and
omen against Egypt and
Cush,
The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.
This is the burden against the Desert by the Sea:
Like whirlwinds
sweeping through the Negev, an
invader comes from the desert, from a land of terror.
Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.
Therefore my body is filled with
anguish. Pain grips me,
like the pains of a woman in labor. I am
bewildered to hear, I am dismayed to see.
He will surely violently turn and
toss thee
like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the
chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord’s house.
roll you into a ball, and
sling you into a wide land. There you will die, and there your glorious
chariots will remain—a disgrace to the house of your master.
And I will
fasten him as a
nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house.
I will drive him
like a
peg into a firm place, and he will be a throne of glory for the house of his father.
Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of
Tarshish: there is no more strength.
When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the
shaking of an olive tree, and as the
gleaning grapes when the
vintage is done.
So will it be on the earth and among the nations,
like a harvested olive tree,
like a
gleaning after a
grape harvest.
The earth shall
reel to and
fro like a
drunkard, and shall be removed
like a
cottage; and the
transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
The earth
staggers like a
drunkard and sways
like a
shack. Earth’s rebellion weighs it down, and it falls, never to rise again.
And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
They will be gathered together
like prisoners in a pit. They will be confined to a
dungeon and punished after many days.
For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the
needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
For You have been a refuge for the poor, a
stronghold for the
needy in distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat. For the breath of the
ruthless is
like rain against a wall,
Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.
like heat in a dry land. You
subdue the
uproar of foreigners. As the shade of a cloud cools the heat, so the song of the
ruthless is silenced.
Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her
delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O LORD.
As a woman with child about to give birth writhes and
cries out in pain, so were we in Your presence, O LORD.
Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise.
Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy
dew is as the
dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
Your dead will live; their bodies will rise.
Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust! For your
dew is
like the
dew of the morning, and the earth will bring forth her dead.
Hath he
smitten him, as he
smote those that
smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?
Has the LORD struck Israel as He struck her oppressors? Was she killed like those who slayed her?
By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be
purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in
sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.
Therefore Jacob’s guilt will be
atoned for, and the full fruit of the removal of his sin will be this: When he makes all the altar stones
like crushed bits of chalk, no Asherah poles or incense altars will remain standing.
Yet the defenced city shall be
desolate, and the
habitation forsaken, and left
like a wilderness: there shall the
calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and
consume the branches thereof.
For the fortified city lies deserted— a
homestead abandoned, a wilderness
forsaken. There the
calves graze, and there they lie down; they strip its branches bare.
Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a
tempest of
hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.
Behold, the Lord has one who is strong and mighty.
Like a
hailstorm or destructive
tempest,
like a driving rain or flooding
downpour, he will
smash that crown to the ground.
And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a
fading flower, and as the
hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it
seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.
The
fading flower of his beautiful
splendor, set on the summit above the fertile valley, will be
like a ripe fig before the summer harvest:
Whoever sees it will take it in his hand and
swallow it.
Yet I will distress
Ariel, and there shall be
heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as
Ariel.
And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall
whisper out of the dust.
You will be brought low, you will speak from the ground, and out of the dust your words will be
muffled. Your voice will be
like a spirit from the ground; your speech will
whisper out of the dust.
Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be
like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as
chaff that passeth away:
yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly.
But your many foes will be
like fine dust, the multitude of the
ruthless like blowing
chaff. Then suddenly, in an instant,
And the multitude of all the nations that fight against
Ariel, even all that fight against her and her
munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.
All the many nations going out to battle against
Ariel— even all who war against her, laying siege and attacking her— will be
like a dream,
like a vision in the night,
And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
And the entire vision will be to you
like the words sealed in a
scroll. If it is handed to someone to read, he will say, “I cannot, because it is sealed.”
Is it not yet a very little while, and
Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest?
Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.
this iniquity of yours is
like a breach about to fail, a
bulge in a high wall, whose
collapse will come suddenly— in an instant!
And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not
spare: so that there shall not be found in the
bursting of it a
sherd to take fire from the
hearth, or to take water
withal out of the pit.
One thousand shall
flee at the
rebuke of one; at the
rebuke of five shall ye
flee: till ye be left as a
beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as an
ensign on an hill.
A thousand will
flee at the
threat of one; at the
threat of five you will all
flee, until you are left alone
like a pole on a mountaintop,
like a
banner on a hill.
Ye shall
defile also the covering of thy
graven images of silver, and the ornament of thy
molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a
menstruous cloth; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence.
So you will
desecrate your silver-plated idols and your gold-plated images. You will throw them away
like menstrual cloths, saying to them, “Be gone!”
Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be
sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.
The light of the moon will be as bright as the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter—like the light of seven days—on the day that the LORD binds up the brokenness of His people and heals the wounds He has inflicted.
Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of
indignation, and his tongue as a
devouring fire:
Behold, the Name of the LORD comes from
afar, with burning anger and dense smoke. His lips are full of
fury, and His tongue is
like a
consuming fire.
And his breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the midst of the neck, to
sift the nations with the
sieve of vanity: and there shall be a
bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to
err.
His breath is
like a
rushing torrent that rises to the neck. He comes to
sift the nations in a
sieve of destruction; He bridles the jaws of the peoples to lead them
astray.
Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy
solemnity is kept; and
gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel.
You will sing as on the night of a holy festival, and your heart will
rejoice like one who walks to the music of a
flute, going up to the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel.
For
Tophet is ordained of old;
yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD,
like a stream of
brimstone,
doth kindle it.
For Topheth has long been prepared; it has been made ready for the king. Its funeral
pyre is deep and wide, with
plenty of fire and wood. The breath of the LORD,
like a
torrent of burning sulfur, sets it
ablaze.
For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me,
Like as the lion and the young lion
roaring on his prey, when a multitude of
shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor
abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount
Zion, and for the hill thereof.
For this is what the LORD has said to me: “
Like a lion
roaring or a young lion over its prey— and though a band of
shepherds is called out against it, it is not
terrified by their
shouting or subdued by their
clamor— so the LORD of Hosts will come down to do battle on Mount
Zion and its heights.
As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.
Like birds
hovering overhead, so the LORD of Hosts will protect Jerusalem. He will shield it and deliver it; He will pass over it and preserve it.”
And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a
covert from the
tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a
weary land.
Each will be
like a shelter from the wind, a refuge from the storm,
like streams of water in a dry land,
like the shadow of a great rock in an
arid land.
Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest.
until the Spirit is poured out upon us from on high. Then the desert will be an
orchard, and the
orchard will seem
like a forest.
And your
spoil shall be gathered
like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and
fro of locusts shall he run upon them.
Your
spoil, O nations, is gathered as by locusts;
like a
swarm of locusts men
sweep over it.
And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire.
The peoples will be burned to ashes,
like thorns cut down and set
ablaze.
And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a
scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.
All the stars of heaven will be dissolved. The
skies will be rolled up
like a
scroll, and all their stars will fall
like withered leaves from the vine,
like foliage from the fig tree.
The wilderness and the solitary place shall be
glad for them; and the desert shall
rejoice, and
blossom as the rose.
The wilderness and the land will be
glad; the desert will
rejoice and
blossom like a rose.
Then shall the
lame man
leap as an
hart, and the tongue of the
dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.
Then the
lame will
leap like a deer and the
mute tongue will
shout for joy. For waters will
gush forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.
Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
until I come and take you away to a land like your own—a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green
herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.
Therefore their inhabitants, devoid of power, are dismayed and
ashamed. They are
like plants in the field, tender green shoots, grass on the rooftops,
scorched before it is grown.
Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a
shepherd’s tent: I have cut off
like a
weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night
wilt thou make an end of me.
My dwelling has been
picked up and removed from me
like a
shepherd’s tent. I have rolled up my life
like a
weaver; He cuts me off from the
loom; from day until night You make an end of me.
I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night
wilt thou make an end of me.
I composed myself until the morning. Like a lion He breaks all my bones; from day until night You make an end of me.
The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the
goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
A voice says, “Cry out!” And I asked, “What should I cry out?” “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flowers of the field.
He shall feed his flock
like a
shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his
bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
He tends His flock
like a
shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart. He gently leads the
nursing ewes.
Behold, the nations are as a drop of a
bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
Surely the nations are
like a drop in a
bucket; they are considered a
speck of dust on the scales; He lifts up the islands
like fine dust.
To whom then will ye
liken God? or what
likeness will ye compare unto him?
To whom will you
liken God? To what image will you compare Him?
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a
curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth; its dwellers are
like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens
like a
curtain, and spreads them out
like a tent to dwell in.
Yea, they shall not be planted;
yea, they shall not be sown:
yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the
whirlwind shall take them away as
stubble.
No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner have their stems taken root in the ground, than He blows on them and they wither, and a
whirlwind sweeps them away
like stubble.
To whom then will ye
liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
“To whom will you
liken Me, or who is My equal?” asks the Holy One.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be
weary; and they shall walk, and not
faint.
But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings
like eagles; they will run and not grow
weary, they will walk and not
faint.
I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon
morter, and as the
potter treadeth clay.
I have raised up one from the north, and he has come— one from the east who calls on My name. He will march over rulers as if they were mortar,
like a
potter who treads the clay.
The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall
stir up jealousy
like a man of war: he shall cry,
yea,
roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.
The LORD goes forth
like a mighty one; He stirs up His zeal
like a
warrior. He shouts;
yes, He roars in triumph over His enemies:
“I have kept silent from ages past; I have remained quiet and restrained. But now I will
groan like a woman in labor; I will at once
gasp and
pant.
Who is blind, but my servant? or
deaf, as my
messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD’S servant?
Who is blind but My servant, or
deaf like the
messenger I am sending? Who is blind
like My covenant
partner, or blind
like the servant of the LORD?
Which bringeth forth the
chariot and horse, the army and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are
quenched as
tow.
And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
They will
sprout among the grass
like willows by flowing streams.
And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them
shew unto them.
Who then is
like Me? Let him say so! Let him declare his case before Me, since I established an ancient people. Let him
foretell the things to come, and what is to take place.
The
carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.
The woodworker extends a measuring line; he marks it out with a
stylus; he shapes it with chisels and outlines it with a compass. He fashions it in the
likeness of man,
like man in all his glory, that it may dwell in a
shrine.
I have
blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.
I have
blotted out your transgressions
like a cloud, and your sins
like a
mist. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.
To whom will ye
liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be
like?
To whom will you
liken Me or count Me equal? To whom will you compare Me, that we should be alike?
Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
Remember what happened long ago, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me.
Behold, they shall be as
stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.
Surely they are
like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. There will be no coals to warm them or fire to sit beside.
O that thou hadst
hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:
If only you had paid attention to My commandments, your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like waves of the sea.
Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy
bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.
Your descendants would have been as countless as the sand, and your offspring as numerous as its grains; their name would never be cut off or
eliminated from My presence.”
And he hath made my mouth
like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he
hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his
quiver hath he
hid me;
He made My mouth
like a sharp sword; He
hid Me in the shadow of His hand. He made Me
like a polished
arrow; He
hid Me in His
quiver.
Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely
clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a
bride doeth.
Lift up your eyes and look around. They all gather together; they come to you. As surely as I live,” declares the LORD, “you will wear them all as
jewelry and put them on
like a
bride.
For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face
like a flint, and I know that I shall not be
ashamed.
Because the Lord GOD helps Me, I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set My face like flint, and I know that I will not be put to shame.
Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall
condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the
moth shall eat them up.
Surely the Lord GOD helps Me. Who is there to
condemn Me? See, they will all wear out
like a garment; the
moths will
devour them.
For the LORD shall comfort
Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness
like Eden, and her desert
like the garden of the LORD; joy and
gladness shall be found therein,
thanksgiving, and the voice of
melody.
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall
vanish away
like smoke, and the earth shall wax old
like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in
like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look at the earth below; for the heavens will
vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out
like a garment, and its people will die
like gnats. But My salvation will last
forever, and My righteousness will never fail.
For the
moth shall eat them up
like a garment, and the worm shall eat them
like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.
For the
moth will
devour them
like a garment, and the worm will eat them
like wool. But My righteousness will last
forever, My salvation through all generations.”
I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass;
“I, even I, am He who comforts you. Why should you be afraid of
mortal man, of a son of man who
withers like grass?
Thy sons have
fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as a wild bull in a net: they are full of the
fury of the LORD, the
rebuke of thy God.
Your sons have
fainted; they lie at the head of every street,
like an
antelope in a net. They are full of the wrath of the LORD, the
rebuke of your God.
But I will put it into the hand of them that
afflict thee; which have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over.
I will place it in the hands of your tormentors, who told you: ‘Lie down, so we can walk over you,’ so that you made your back like the ground, like a street to be traversed.”
As many were
astonied at thee; his
visage was so
marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
Just as many were
appalled at Him— His appearance was disfigured beyond that of any man, and His form was
marred beyond human
likeness—
For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor
comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
He grew up before Him
like a tender shoot, and
like a root out of dry ground. He had no stately form or majesty to
attract us, no beauty that we should desire Him.
He is
despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we
hid as it were our faces from him; he was
despised, and we esteemed him not.
He was
despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief.
Like one from whom men hide their faces, He was
despised, and we esteemed Him not.
All we
like sheep have gone
astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
We all
like sheep have gone
astray, each one has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid upon Him the iniquity of us all.
He was
oppressed, and he was
afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is
dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
He was
oppressed and
afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth. He was led
like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so He did not open His mouth.
For the LORD hath called thee as a woman
forsaken and
grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou
wast refused, saith thy God.
For the LORD has called you back, like a wife deserted and wounded in spirit, like the rejected wife of one’s youth,” says your God.
For this is as the waters of
Noah unto me: for as I have
sworn that the waters of
Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I
sworn that I would not be
wroth with thee, nor
rebuke thee.
“For to Me this is
like the days of
Noah, when I
swore that the waters of
Noah would never again cover the earth. So I have
sworn that I will not be
angry with you or
rebuke you.
Yea, they are
greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are
shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.
Like ravenous dogs, they are never satisfied. They are
shepherds with no
discernment; they all turn to their own way, each one seeking his own gain:
Come ye, say they, I will
