And the
firstborn bare a son, and called his name
Moab: the same is the father of the
Moabites unto this day.
The older daughter gave birth to a son and named him
Moab. He is the father of the
Moabites of
today.
And Husham died, and
Hadad the son of Bedad, who
smote Midian in the field of
Moab, reigned in his
stead: and the name of his city was Avith.
When Husham died,
Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated
Midian in the country of
Moab, reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Avith.
Then the dukes of
Edom shall be
amazed; the mighty men of
Moab,
trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of
Canaan shall
melt away.
Then the chiefs of
Edom will be dismayed;
trembling will seize the leaders of
Moab; those who dwell in
Canaan will
melt away,
And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije-abarim, in the wilderness which is before
Moab, toward the
sunrising.
They journeyed from Oboth and camped at Iye-abarim in the wilderness opposite Moab to the east.
From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of
Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the
Amorites: for
Arnon is the border of
Moab, between
Moab and the
Amorites.
From there they moved on and camped on the other side of the
Arnon, in the wilderness that extends into the Amorite territory. Now the
Arnon is the border between the
Moabites and the
Amorites.
And at the stream of the
brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar, and lieth upon the border of
Moab.
even the slopes of the wadis that extend to the site of Ar and lie along the border of Moab.”
And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of
Moab, to the top of
Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.
and from Bamoth to the valley in
Moab where the top of
Pisgah overlooks the wasteland.
For
Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the
Amorites, who had fought against the former king of
Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto
Arnon.
Heshbon was the city of Sihon king of the
Amorites, who had fought against the former king of
Moab and taken all his land as far as the
Arnon.
For there is a fire gone out of
Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of
Moab, and the lords of the high places of
Arnon.
For a fire went out from
Heshbon, a
blaze from the city of Sihon. It consumed Ar of
Moab, the rulers of
Arnon’s heights.
Woe to thee,
Moab! thou art undone, O people of
Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the
Amorites.
Woe to you, O
Moab! You are destroyed, O people of
Chemosh! He gave up his sons as refugees, and his daughters into captivity to Sihon king of the
Amorites.
And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of
Moab on this side Jordan by
Jericho.
Then the Israelites traveled on and camped in the plains of
Moab near the Jordan, across from
Jericho.
And
Moab was
sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and
Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.
and
Moab was
terrified of the people because they were numerous. Indeed,
Moab dreaded the Israelites.
And
Moab said unto the elders of
Midian, Now shall this company
lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the
Moabites at that time.
So the
Moabites said to the elders of
Midian, “This
horde will
devour everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.” Since Balak son of Zippor was king of
Moab at that time,
And the elders of
Moab and the elders of
Midian departed with the rewards of
divination in their hand; and they came unto
Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.
The elders of
Moab and
Midian departed with the fees for
divination in hand. They came to
Balaam and relayed to him the words of Balak.
And he said unto them,
Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of
Moab abode with
Balaam.
“
Spend the night here,”
Balaam replied, “and I will give you the answer that the LORD speaks to me.” So the princes of
Moab stayed with
Balaam.
And
Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of
Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,
And
Balaam said to God, “Balak son of Zippor, king of
Moab, sent me this message:
And the princes of
Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said,
Balaam refuseth to come with us.
And the princes of
Moab arose, returned to Balak, and said, “
Balaam refused to come with us.”
And
Balaam rose up in the morning, and
saddled his
ass, and went with the princes of
Moab.
And when Balak heard that
Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of
Moab, which is in the border of
Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.
When Balak heard that
Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the
Moabite city on the
Arnon border, at the edge of his territory.
And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.
So he returned to Balak, who was standing there beside his burnt offering, with all the princes of Moab.
And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of
Moab hath brought me from
Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come,
curse me Jacob, and come,
defy Israel.
And
Balaam lifted up an
oracle, saying: “Balak brought me from
Aram, the king of
Moab from the mountains of the east. ‘Come,’ he said, ‘put a
curse on Jacob for me; come and
denounce Israel!’
And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken?
So he returned to Balak, who was standing there by his burnt offering with the princes of Moab. “What did the LORD say?” Balak asked.
I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not
nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a
Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall
smite the corners of
Moab, and destroy all the children of
Sheth.
I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come forth from Jacob, and a
scepter will arise from Israel. He will
crush the skulls of
Moab and strike down all the sons of
Sheth.
And Israel abode in
Shittim, and the people began to commit
whoredom with the daughters of
Moab.
While Israel was staying in
Shittim, the men began to
indulge in sexual immorality with the daughters of
Moab,
And Moses and
Eleazar the priest spake with them in the plains of
Moab by Jordan near
Jericho, saying,
So on the plains of
Moab by the Jordan, across from
Jericho, Moses and
Eleazar the priest issued the instruction,
These are they that were numbered by Moses and
Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of
Moab by Jordan near
Jericho.
These were the ones numbered by Moses and
Eleazar the priest when they counted the Israelites on the plains of
Moab by the Jordan, across from
Jericho.
And they brought the
captives, and the prey, and the
spoil, unto Moses, and
Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of
Moab, which are by Jordan near
Jericho.
They brought the
captives, spoils, and
plunder to Moses, to
Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of Israel at the camp on the plains of
Moab, by the Jordan across from
Jericho.
And they departed from Oboth, and pitched in Ije-abarim, in the border of Moab.
They set out from Oboth and camped at Iye-abarim on the border of Moab.
And they departed from the mountains of Abarim, and pitched in the plains of
Moab by Jordan near
Jericho.
They set out from the mountains of Abarim and camped on the plains of
Moab by the Jordan across from
Jericho.
And they pitched by Jordan, from Beth-jesimoth even unto
Abel-
shittim in the plains of
Moab.
And there on the plains of
Moab they camped by the Jordan, from Beth-jeshimoth to
Abel-
shittim.
And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of
Moab by Jordan near
Jericho, saying,
On the plains of
Moab by the Jordan across from
Jericho, the LORD said to Moses,
And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of
Moab by Jordan near
Jericho, saying,
Again the LORD spoke to Moses on the plains of
Moab by the Jordan across from
Jericho:
These are the commandments and the judgments, which the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of
Moab by Jordan near
Jericho.
These are the commandments and ordinances that the LORD gave the Israelites through Moses on the plains of
Moab by the Jordan across from
Jericho.
On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,
On the east side of the Jordan in the land of Moab, Moses began to explain this law, saying:
And when we passed by from our brethren the children of
Esau, which dwelt in
Seir, through the way of the plain from
Elath, and from Ezion-gaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of
Moab.
So we passed by our brothers, the descendants of
Esau, who live in
Seir. We turned away from the Arabah road, which comes up from
Elath and Ezion-
geber, and traveled along the road of the Wilderness of
Moab.
And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the
Moabites, neither
contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.
Then the LORD said to me, “Do not
harass the
Moabites or
provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the
Moabites call them
Emims.
Like the Anakites, they were also regarded as
Rephaim, though the
Moabites called them Emites.
Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:
“
Today you are going to cross the border of
Moab at Ar.
(As the children of
Esau which dwell in
Seir, and the
Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us.
just as the descendants of
Esau who live in
Seir and the
Moabites who live in Ar did for us, until we cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD our God is giving us.”
An
Ammonite or
Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:
No
Ammonite or
Moabite or any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, even to the tenth generation.
These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of
Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in
Horeb.
These are the words of the covenant that the LORD commanded Moses to make with the Israelites in the land of
Moab, in addition to the covenant He had made with them at
Horeb.
Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount
Nebo, which is in the land of
Moab, that is over against
Jericho; and behold the land of
Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession:
“Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount
Nebo, in the land of
Moab across from
Jericho, and view the land of
Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites as their own possession.
And Moses went up from the plains of
Moab unto the mountain of
Nebo, to the top of
Pisgah, that is over against
Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the land of
Gilead, unto
Dan,
Then Moses went up from the plains of
Moab to Mount
Nebo, to the top of
Pisgah, which faces
Jericho. And the LORD showed him the whole land—from
Gilead as far as
Dan,
So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.
So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, as the LORD had said.
And he buried him in a valley in the land of
Moab, over against Beth-peor: but no man knoweth of his
sepulchre unto this day.
And He buried him in a valley in the land of
Moab facing Beth-peor, and no one to this day knows the
location of his grave.
And the children of Israel
wept for Moses in the plains of
Moab thirty days: so the days of
weeping and
mourning for Moses were ended.
The Israelites
grieved for Moses in the plains of
Moab thirty days, until the time of
weeping and
mourning for Moses came to an end.
These are the countries which Moses did distribute for inheritance in the plains of
Moab, on the other side Jordan, by
Jericho, eastward.
These were the portions Moses had given them on the plains of
Moab beyond the Jordan, east of
Jericho.
Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of
Moab, arose and
warred against Israel, and sent and called
Balaam the son of Beor to
curse you:
Then Balak son of Zippor, the king of
Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent for
Balaam son of Beor to
curse you,
And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened
Eglon the king of
Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.
Once again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD. So He gave
Eglon king of
Moab power over Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.
So the children of Israel served
Eglon the king of
Moab eighteen years.
The Israelites served
Eglon king of
Moab eighteen years.
But when the children of Israel
cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of
Gera, a
Benjamite, a man lefthanded: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto
Eglon the king of
Moab.
And again they
cried out to the LORD, and He raised up Ehud son of
Gera, a left-handed
Benjamite, as their deliverer. So they sent him with tribute to
Eglon king of
Moab.
And he brought the present unto
Eglon king of
Moab: and
Eglon was a very fat man.
and brought the tribute to
Eglon king of
Moab, who was an
obese man.
And he said unto them, Follow after me: for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan toward Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over.
“Follow me,” he told them, “for the LORD has delivered your enemies the
Moabites into your hand.” So they followed him down and seized the fords of the Jordan leading to
Moab, and did not allow
anyone to cross over.
And they
slew of
Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all
lusty, and all men of valour; and there escaped not a man.
At that time they struck down about ten thousand
Moabites, all
robust and
valiant men. Not one of them escaped.
So
Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest
fourscore years.
So Moab was subdued under the hand of Israel that day, and the land had rest for eighty years.
And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served
Baalim, and
Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of
Moab, and the gods of the children of
Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and
forsook the LORD, and served not him.
And again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD. They served the Baals, the Ashtoreths, the gods of
Aram,
Sidon, and
Moab, and the gods of the
Ammonites and Philistines. Thus they
forsook the LORD and did not serve Him.
And said unto him, Thus saith
Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of
Moab, nor the land of the children of
Ammon:
to tell him, “This is what
Jephthah says: Israel did not take away the land of
Moab or of the
Ammonites.
Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of
Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of
Edom would not
hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of
Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.
Then Israel sent messengers to the king of
Edom, saying, ‘Please let us pass through your land,’ but the king of
Edom would not
listen. They also sent messengers to the king of
Moab, but he would not consent. So Israel stayed in Kadesh.
Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of
Edom, and the land of
Moab, and came by the east side of the land of
Moab, and pitched on the other side of
Arnon, but came not within the border of
Moab: for
Arnon was the border of
Moab.
Then Israel traveled through the wilderness and bypassed the lands of
Edom and
Moab. They came to the east side of the land of
Moab and camped on the other side of the
Arnon. But they did not enter the territory of
Moab, since the
Arnon was its border.
And now art thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of
Moab? did he ever
strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them,
Are you now so much better than Balak son of Zippor, king of
Moab? Did he ever
contend with Israel or fight against them?
Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to
sojourn in the country of
Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. And a certain man from
Bethlehem in Judah, with his wife and two sons, went to reside in the land of
Moab.
And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife
Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of
Moab, and continued there.
The man’s name was Elimelech, his wife’s name was
Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from
Bethlehem in Judah, and they entered the land of
Moab and settled there.
And they took them wives of the women of
Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other
Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.
who took
Moabite women as their wives, one named Orpah and the other named
Ruth. And after they had lived in
Moab about ten years,
Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.
When
Naomi heard in
Moab that the LORD had attended to His people by providing them with food, she and her daughters-in-law prepared to leave the land of
Moab.
So
Naomi returned, and
Ruth the
Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of
Moab: and they came to
Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
So
Naomi returned from the land of
Moab with her daughter-in-law
Ruth the
Moabitess. And they arrived in
Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.
And
Ruth the
Moabitess said unto
Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and
glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
And
Ruth the
Moabitess said to
Naomi, “Please let me go into the fields and
glean heads of grain after someone in whose sight I may find favor.” “Go
ahead, my daughter,”
Naomi replied.
And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the
Moabitish damsel that came back with
Naomi out of the country of
Moab:
And
Ruth the
Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
Then
Ruth the
Moabitess said, “He also told me, ‘Stay with my young men until they have finished gathering all my harvest.’”
And he said unto the
kinsman,
Naomi, that is come again out of the country of
Moab, selleth a
parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech’s:
And he said to the
kinsman-
redeemer, “
Naomi, who has returned from the land of
Moab, is selling the piece of land that belonged to our brother Elimelech.
Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of
Naomi, thou must
buy it also of
Ruth the
Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
Then Boaz said, “On the day you
buy the land from
Naomi and also from
Ruth the
Moabitess, you must also acquire the widow of the deceased in order to raise up the name of the deceased on his inheritance.”
Moreover
Ruth the
Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
Moreover, I have acquired
Ruth the
Moabitess, Mahlon’s widow, as my wife, to raise up the name of the deceased through his inheritance, so that his name will not disappear from among his brothers or from the gate of his home. You are witnesses
today.”
And when they
forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of
Moab, and they fought against them.
But they
forgot the LORD their God, and He sold them into the hand of Sisera the commander of the army of Hazor, and into the hands of the Philistines and the king of
Moab, who fought against them.
So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against
Moab, and against the children of
Ammon, and against
Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and
whithersoever he turned himself, he
vexed them.
After Saul had assumed the
kingship over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side—the
Moabites, the
Ammonites, the Edomites, the kings of Zobah, and the Philistines. Wherever he turned, he routed them.
And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.
From there David went to Mizpeh of Moab, where he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and mother stay with you until I learn what God will do for me.”
And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold.
So he left them in the care of the king of
Moab, and they stayed with him the whole time David was in the
stronghold.
And he
smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the
Moabites became David’s servants, and brought gifts.
David also defeated the
Moabites, made them lie down on the ground, and measured them off with a cord. He measured off with two lengths those to be put to death, and with one length those to be
spared. So the
Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute.
Of Syria, and of
Moab, and of the children of
Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the
spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a
valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he
slew two
lionlike men of
Moab: he went down also and
slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:
And Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a man of
valor from Kabzeel, a man of many exploits. He struck down two champions of
Moab, and on a
snowy day he went down into a pit and killed a lion.
But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the
Moabites,
Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and
Hittites;
King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh—women of
Moab,
Ammon,
Edom, and
Sidon, as well as Hittite women.
Because that they have
forsaken me, and have worshipped
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians,
Chemosh the god of the
Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of
Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father.
For they have
forsaken Me to worship
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians,
Chemosh the god of the
Moabites, and Milcom the god of the
Ammonites. They have not walked in My ways, nor done what is right in My eyes, nor kept My statutes and judgments, as Solomon’s father David did.
Then
Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of
Ahab.
After the death of
Ahab,
Moab rebelled against Israel.
And Mesha king of
Moab was a
sheepmaster, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an hundred thousand rams, with the wool.
Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder, and he would render to the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs and the wool of a hundred thousand rams.
But it came to pass, when
Ahab was dead, that the king of
Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
But after the death of
Ahab, the king of
Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
And he went and sent to
Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of
Moab hath rebelled against me:
wilt thou go with me against
Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.
And he sent a message to
Jehoshaphat king of Judah: “The king of
Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against
Moab?” “I will go,” replied
Jehoshaphat. “I am like you, my people are your people, and my horses are your horses.”
And the king of Israel said,
Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of
Moab!
“
Alas,” said the king of Israel, “for the LORD has summoned these three kings to deliver them into the hand of
Moab!”
And
Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him,
Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of
Moab.
Elisha, however, said to the king of Israel, “What have we to do with each other? Go to the prophets of your father and of your mother!” “No,” replied the king of Israel, “for it is the LORD who has summoned these three kings to deliver them into the hand of
Moab.”
And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.
This is a simple matter in the sight of the LORD, and He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.
And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.
Now all the Moabites had heard that the kings had come up to fight against them. So all who could bear arms, young and old, were summoned and stationed at the border.
And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun
shone upon the water, and the
Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:
When they got up early in the morning, the sun was
shining on the water, and it looked as red as blood to the
Moabites across the way.
And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have
smitten one another: now therefore,
Moab, to the
spoil.
“This is blood!” they
exclaimed. “The kings have
clashed swords and slaughtered one another. Now to the
plunder,
Moab!”
And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and
smote the
Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward
smiting the
Moabites, even in their country.
But when the Moabites came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and attacked them, and they fled before them. So the Israelites invaded their land and struck down the Moabites.
And when the king of
Moab saw that the battle was too
sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of
Edom: but they could not.
When the king of
Moab saw that the battle was too fierce for him, he took with him seven hundred
swordsmen to break through to the king of
Edom, but they could not prevail.
And
Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the
Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
And
Elisha died and was buried. Now the
Moabite raiders used to come into the land every spring.
And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for
Ashtoreth the
abomination of the Zidonians, and for
Chemosh the
abomination of the
Moabites, and for Milcom the
abomination of the children of
Ammon, did the king
defile.
And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the
Moabites, and bands of the children of
Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servants the prophets.
And when Husham was dead,
Hadad the son of Bedad, which
smote Midian in the field of
Moab, reigned in his
stead: and the name of his city was Avith.
When Husham died,
