And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again
curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again
smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
When the LORD smelled the pleasing
aroma, He said in His heart, “
Never again will I
curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from his youth. And
never again will I destroy all living creatures as I have done.
While the earth remaineth,
seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall
never cease.”
And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
And I establish My covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
I will remember My covenant between Me and you and every living creature of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
Look, I have two daughters who have
never slept with a man. Let me bring them to you, and you can do to them as you please. But do not do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.”
Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this
bondwoman and her son: for the son of this
bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.
and she said to Abraham, “
Expel the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will
never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac!”
Ask me
never so much
dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the
damsel to wife.
Demand a high
dowry and an expensive gift, and I will give you whatever you ask. Only give me the
girl as my wife!”
And, behold, seven other
kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I
never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:
After them, seven other cows—sickly,
ugly, and thin—came up. I have
never seen such
ugly cows in all the land of Egypt!
And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.
“I never expected to see your face again,” Israel said to Joseph, “but now God has let me see your children as well.”
And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.
But his father refused. “I know, my son, I know!” he said. “He too shall become a people, and he too shall be great; nevertheless, his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his offspring shall become a multitude of nations.”
O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they
slew a man, and in their selfwill they
digged down a wall.
May I
never enter their council; may I
never join their assembly. For they kill men in their anger, and
hamstring oxen on a
whim.
And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not
eloquent, neither
heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
“Please, Lord,” Moses replied, “I have
never been
eloquent, neither in the past nor since You have spoken to Your servant, for I am slow of speech and tongue.”
And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very
grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.
The locusts
swarmed across the land and settled over the entire territory of Egypt.
Never before had there been so many locusts, and
never again will there be.
And Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take
heed to
thyself, see my face no more; for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die.
“Depart from me!” Pharaoh said to Moses. “Make sure you never see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you will die.”
And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more.
“As you say,” Moses replied, “I will never see your face again.”
And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.
Then a great cry will go out over all the land of Egypt. Such an outcry has never been heard before and will never be heard again.
And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will
shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
But Moses told the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the LORD’s salvation, which He will
accomplish for you
today; for the Egyptians you see
today, you will
never see again.
If he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that
smote him be
quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly
healed.
then the one who struck him shall go unpunished, as long as the other can get up and walk around outside with his staff.
Nevertheless, he must
compensate the man for his lost work and see that he is completely
healed.
And as for the
perfume which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to
yourselves according to the composition thereof: it shall be unto thee holy for the LORD.
You are
never to use this formula to make incense for
yourselves; you shall regard it as holy to the LORD.
Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.
Now go, lead the people to the place I described. Behold, My angel shall go before you. But on the day I settle accounts, I will
punish them for their sin.”
And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.
And the LORD said, “Behold, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I will perform wonders that have
never been done in any nation in all the world. All the people among whom you live will see the LORD’s work, for it is an
awesome thing that I am doing with you.
The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.
The fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it must not be
extinguished.
Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that
chew the
cud, or of them that divide the
hoof: as the
camel, because he cheweth the
cud, but divideth not the
hoof; he is unclean unto you.
But of those that only
chew the
cud or only have a divided
hoof, you are not to eat the following: The
camel, though it chews the
cud, does not have a divided
hoof; it is unclean for you.
Nevertheless a fountain or pit, wherein there is
plenty of water, shall be clean: but that which toucheth their
carcase shall be unclean.
Nevertheless, a spring or
cistern containing water will remain clean, but one who touches a
carcass in it will be unclean.
And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they
prophesied, and did not cease.
Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and He took some of the Spirit that was on Moses and placed that Spirit on the seventy elders. As the Spirit rested on them, they
prophesied—but they
never did so again.
Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of
Anak there.
Nevertheless, the people living in the land are strong, and the cities are large and fortified. We even saw the descendants of
Anak there.
But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
But they
dared to go up to the ridge of the hill country, though neither Moses nor the ark of the covenant of the LORD moved from the camp.
Every thing that openeth the
matrix in all flesh, which they bring unto the LORD, whether it be of men or beasts, shall be thine:
nevertheless the
firstborn of man shalt thou surely
redeem, and the
firstling of unclean beasts shalt thou
redeem.
The
firstborn of every
womb, whether man or beast, that is offered to the LORD belongs to you. But you must surely
redeem every
firstborn son and every
firstborn male of unclean animals.
This is the
ordinance of the law which the LORD hath commanded, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red
heifer without spot, wherein is no
blemish, and upon which
never came yoke:
“This is the statute of the law that the LORD has commanded:
Instruct the Israelites to bring you an
unblemished red
heifer that has no defect and has
never been placed under a yoke.
Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away
captive.
Yet
Kain will be destroyed when Asshur takes you
captive.”
But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for
yourselves.
Every thing that may
abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean:
nevertheless it shall be
purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.
everything that can
withstand the fire—must be put through the fire, and it will be clean. But it must still be
purified with the water of
purification. And everything that cannot
withstand the fire must pass through the water.
Remember, and
forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou
didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been
rebellious against the LORD.
Remember this, and
never forget how you
provoked the LORD your God in the wilderness. From the day you left the land of Egypt until you reached this place, you have been rebelling against the LORD.
And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.
Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and will never again do such a wicked thing among you.
And thou shalt gather all the
spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the
spoil thereof every
whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be an
heap for ever; it shall not be built again.
And you are to gather all its
plunder in the middle of the public square, and completely burn the city and all its
plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. The city must remain a
mound of ruins
forever,
never to be rebuilt.
Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that
chew the
cud, or of them that divide the
cloven hoof; as the
camel, and the
hare, and the
coney: for they
chew the
cud, but divide not the
hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you.
But of those that
chew the
cud or have a completely divided
hoof, you are not to eat the following: the
camel, the
rabbit, or the rock
badger.
For the poor shall
never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy
needy, in thy land.
For there will
never cease to be poor in the land; that is why I am commanding you to open wide your hand to your brother and to the poor and
needy in your land.
But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses:
forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.
But the king must not acquire many horses for himself or send the people back to Egypt to acquire more horses, for the LORD has said, ‘You are never to go back that way again.’
And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
Then the rest of the people will hear and be afraid, and they will never again do anything so evil among you.
And it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an
heifer, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;
Then the elders of the city nearest the
victim shall take a
heifer that has
never been yoked or used for work,
Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not
hearken unto
Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the
curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee.
Yet the LORD your God would not
listen to
Balaam, and the LORD your God turned the
curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you.
And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou
hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
The LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you will only move upward and
never downward, if you hear and carefully follow the commandments of the LORD your God, which I am giving you
today.
Thou shalt have olive trees throughout all thy coasts, but thou shalt not
anoint thyself with the oil; for thine olive shall cast his fruit.
You will have olive trees throughout your territory but will
never anoint yourself with oil, because the olives will drop off.
And thy life shall
hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:
So your life will
hang in doubt before you, and you will be afraid night and day,
never certain of
survival.
And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way
whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for
bondmen and
bondwomen, and no man shall
buy you.
The LORD will return you to Egypt in ships by a route that I said you should
never see again. There you will sell
yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will
buy you.”
The LORD will not
spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall
blot out his name from under heaven.
The LORD will
never be willing to
forgive him. Instead, His anger and jealousy will burn against that man, and every
curse written in this book will fall upon him. The LORD will
blot out his name from under heaven
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that
doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee.
Be strong and
courageous; do not be afraid or
terrified of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you; He will
never leave you nor
forsake you.”
And the LORD, he it is that
doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither
forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
The LORD Himself goes before you; He will be with you. He will
never leave you nor
forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”
There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee.
No one shall stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so will I be with you; I will
never leave you nor
forsake you.
Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way
heretofore.
But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between
yourselves and the ark. Do not go near it, so that you can see the way to go, since you have
never traveled this way before.”
For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD
sware that he would not
shew them the land, which the LORD
sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
For the Israelites had
wandered in the wilderness forty years, until all the nation’s men of war who had come out of Egypt had died, since they did not obey the LORD. So the LORD
vowed never to let them see the land He had
sworn to their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.
but the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites. So Geshur and Maacath dwell among the Israelites to this day.
Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people
melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.
Although my brothers who went with me made the hearts of the people
melt with fear, I remained
loyal to the LORD my God.
And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the
Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.
When Israel became stronger, they pressed the
Canaanites into forced labor, but they
never drove them out completely.
Neither did
Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the
Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land:
nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributaries unto them.
Naphtali failed to drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath. So the Naphtalites also lived among the
Canaanite inhabitants of the land, but the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath served them as forced laborers.
And an angel of the LORD came up from
Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I
sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will
never break my covenant with you.
Now the angel of the LORD went up from
Gilgal to Bochim and said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land that I had promised to your fathers, and I said, ‘I will
never break My covenant with you,
Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that
spoiled them.
Then the LORD raised up judges, who saved them from the hands of those who
plundered them.
And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his
vow which he had
vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,
After two months, she returned to her father, and he did to her as he had
vowed. And she had
never had relations with a man. So it has become a custom in Israel
Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there
never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the
uncircumcised Philistines? And
Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
But his father and mother replied, “Can’t you find a young woman among your relatives or among any of our people? Must you go to the
uncircumcised Philistines to get a wife?” But
Samson told his father, “Get her for me, for she is pleasing to my eyes.”
And
Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were
never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
Samson told her, “If they
tie me up with seven fresh bowstrings that have not been dried, I will become as weak as any other man.”
And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
He replied, “If they
tie me up with new ropes that have
never been used, I will become as weak as any other man.”
That he told her all his heart, and said unto her. There hath not come a
razor upon mine head; for I have been a
Nazarite unto God from my mother’s
womb: if I be
shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.
Samson told her all that was in his heart: “My hair has
never been cut, because I have been a
Nazirite to God from my mother’s
womb. If I am
shaved, my strength will leave me, and I will become as weak as any other man.”
And therefore I have
sworn unto the house of
Eli, that the iniquity of
Eli’s house shall not be
purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.
Therefore I have
sworn to the house of
Eli, ‘The iniquity of
Eli’s house shall
never be
atoned for by sacrifice or offering.’”
Now therefore make a new
cart, and take two
milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and
tie the
kine to the
cart, and bring their
calves home from them:
Now, therefore, prepare one new
cart with two milk cows that have
never been yoked.
Hitch the cows to the
cart, but take their
calves away and pen them up.
And the
kine took the straight way to the way of Beth-shemesh, and went along the
highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Beth-shemesh.
And the cows headed straight up the road toward Beth-shemesh, staying on that one
highway and lowing as they went,
never straying to the right or to the left. The rulers of the Philistines followed behind them to the border of Beth-shemesh.
Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said,
Nay; but we will have a king over us;
Nevertheless, the people refused to
listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We must have a king over us.
And the people said unto Saul, Shall
Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God
forbid: as the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people
rescued Jonathan, that he died not.
But the people said to Saul, “Must
Jonathan die—he who accomplished such a great
deliverance for Israel?
Never! As surely as the LORD lives, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground, for with God’s help he has accomplished this
today.” So the people
rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.
And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death:
nevertheless Samuel
mourned for Saul: and the LORD
repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
And to the day of his death, Samuel
never again visited Saul. Samuel
mourned for Saul, and the LORD
regretted that He had made Saul king over Israel.
And
Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?
“
Never!”
Jonathan replied. “If I ever found out that my father had evil intentions against you, would I not tell you?”
Nevertheless Saul spake not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath
befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean.
Saul said nothing that day because he thought, “Something has happened to David to make him
ceremonially unclean—surely he is unclean.”
And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.
saying, “Do not be afraid, for my father Saul will never lay a hand on you. And you will be king over Israel, and I will be your second-in-command. Even my father Saul knows this is true.”
And he said unto his men, The LORD
forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD’S
anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the
anointed of the LORD.
So he said to his men, “The LORD
forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the LORD’s
anointed. May I
never lift my hand against him, since he is the LORD’s
anointed.”
The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD
avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
May the LORD judge between you and me, and may the LORD take
vengeance on you, but my hand will
never be against you.
As saith the
proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
As the old
proverb says, ‘Wickedness proceeds from the wicked.’ But my hand will
never be against you.
Then said Saul, I have
sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee
harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the
fool, and have
erred exceedingly.
Then Saul replied, “I have
sinned. Come back, David my son. I will
never harm you again, because
today you considered my life precious. I have played the
fool and have committed a grave error!”
Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.
So Achish summoned David and told him, “As surely as the LORD lives, you have been upright in my sight, and it seems right that you should march in and out with me in the army, because I have found no fault in you from the day you came to me until this day. But you have no favor in the sight of the leaders.
Let it rest on the head of
Joab, and on all his father’s house; and let there not fail from the house of
Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a
leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread.
May it
whirl over the heads of
Joab and the entire house of his father, and may the house of
Joab never be without one having a discharge or skin disease, or one who leans on a staff or falls by the sword or lacks food.”
And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the
lame, thou shalt not come in
hither: thinking, David cannot come in
hither.
Now the king and his men marched to Jerusalem against the Jebusites who inhabited the land. The Jebusites said to David: “You will
never get in here. Even the blind and
lame can
repel you.” For they thought, “David cannot get in here.”
Nevertheless David took the strong hold of
Zion: the same is the city of David.
Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of
Zion (that is, the City of David).
And David said on that day,
Whosoever getteth up to the
gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the
lame and the blind, that are
hated of David’s soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the
lame shall not come into the house.
On that day he said, “
Whoever attacks the Jebusites must use the water shaft to reach the
lame and blind who are
despised by David.” That is why it is said, “The blind and the
lame will
never enter the palace.”
But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
But My loving devotion will never be removed from him as I removed it from Saul, whom I moved out of your way.
Now therefore the sword shall
never depart from thine house; because thou hast
despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
Now, therefore, the sword will
never depart from your house, because you have
despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’
Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to
blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
Nevertheless, because by this deed you have shown utter contempt for the word of the LORD, the son born to you will surely die.”
And she answered him,
Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.
“No, my brother!” she
cried. “Do not
humiliate me, for such a thing should
never be done in Israel. Do not do this disgraceful thing!
And
Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for
Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.
And
Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad, because he
hated Amnon for disgracing his sister Tamar.
Nevertheless a
lad saw them, and told
Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man’s house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court;
whither they went down.
But a young man did see them and told
Absalom. So the two left quickly and came to the house of a man in Bahurim. He had a well in his
courtyard, and they
climbed down into it.
But
Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and
smote the
Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David
sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou
quench not the light of Israel.
But
Abishai son of Zeruiah came to his aid, struck the
Philistine, and killed him. Then David’s men
swore to him, “You must
never again go out with us to battle, so that the lamp of Israel may not be
extinguished.”
But the sons of
Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:
But the worthless are all like thorns
raked aside, for they can
never be gathered by hand.
And the three mighty men
brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of
Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David:
nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.
So the three mighty men broke through the
Philistine camp, drew water from the well near the gate of
Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the LORD,
Notwithstanding the king’s word prevailed against
Joab, and against the captains of the host. And
Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.
Nevertheless, the king’s word prevailed against
Joab and against the commanders of the army. So
Joab and the commanders of the army departed from the presence of the king to count the troops of Israel.
And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after
Absalom.
(His father had

reprimanded him by saying, “Why do you act this way?” Adonijah was also very handsome, born next after
Absalom.)
That the LORD may continue his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take
heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel.
and so that the LORD may
fulfill His promise to me: ‘If your descendants take
heed to walk faithfully before Me with all their heart and soul, you will
never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.’
And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of
Gera, a
Benjamite of Bahurim, which
cursed me with a
grievous curse in the day when I went to
Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I
sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.
Keep an eye on Shimei the son of
Gera, the
Benjamite from Bahurim who is with you. He called down bitter curses against me on the day I went to
Mahanaim, but when he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I
swore to him by the LORD: ‘I will
never put you to the sword.’
Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
behold, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and
discerning heart, so that there has
never been nor will ever be another like you.
Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name.
Nevertheless, you are not the one to build it; but your son, your own offspring, will build the house for My Name.’
Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take
heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk before Me as you have done.’
The LORD our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor
forsake us:
May the LORD our God be with us, as He was with our fathers. May He
never leave us nor
forsake us.
Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.
then I will establish your royal throne over Israel
forever, as I promised your father David when I said, ‘You will
never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.’
And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of
Sheba gave to king Solomon.
Then she gave the king 120 talents of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones.
Never again was such an abundance of spices brought in as those the queen of
Sheba gave to King Solomon.
And the king made of the
almug trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king’s house, harps also and
psalteries for singers: there came no such
almug trees, nor were seen unto this day.
The king made the
almug wood into steps for the house of the LORD and for the king’s palace, and into lyres and harps for the singers.
Never before had such
almug wood been brought in, nor has such been seen to this day.)
