Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Behold, I will put a spirit in him so that he will hear a
rumor and return to his
own land, where I will cause him to fall by the sword.’”
And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year
sow ye, and
reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.
And this will be a sign to you, O
Hezekiah: This year you will eat what grows on its
own, and in the second year what springs from the same. But in the third year you will
sow and
reap; you will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
‘I will defend this city and save it for My own sake and for the sake of My servant David.’”
Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
Surely for my
own welfare I had such great
anguish; but Your love has delivered me from the pit of
oblivion, for You have cast all my sins behind Your back.
And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt
beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, will be taken away to be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
I,
yes I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My
own sake and remembers your sins no more.
They that make a
graven image are all of them vanity; and their
delectable things shall not profit; and they are their
own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be
ashamed.
All makers of idols are nothing, and the things they
treasure are worthless. Their witnesses fail to see or
comprehend, so they are put to shame.
Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall
wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
This is what they are to you— those with whom you have labored and traded from youth— each one strays in his own direction; not one of them can save you.
For mine
own sake, even for mine
own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be
polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
For My
own sake, My very
own sake, I will act; for how can I let Myself be
defamed? I will not yield My glory to another.
Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath
spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.
Surely My
own hand founded the earth, and My right hand spread out the heavens; when I
summon them, they stand up together.
And I will feed them that
oppress thee with their
own flesh; and they shall be
drunken with their
own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy
Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
I will make your oppressors eat their
own flesh; they will be
drunk on their
own blood, as with wine. Then all mankind will know that I, the LORD, am your
Savior and your
Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”
All we like sheep have gone
astray; we have turned every one to his
own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
We all like sheep have gone
astray, each one has turned to his
own way; and the LORD has laid upon Him the iniquity of us all.
Let the wicked
forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly
pardon.
Let the wicked man
forsake his
own way and the unrighteous man his
own thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that He may have
compassion, and to our God, for He will freely
pardon.
Yea, they are
greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are
shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their
own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.
Like
ravenous dogs, they are never satisfied. They are
shepherds with no
discernment; they all turn to their
own way, each one seeking his
own gain:
Is it not to deal thy bread to the
hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not
thyself from thine
own flesh?
Isn’t it to share your bread with the
hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your home, to
clothe the naked when you see him, and not to turn away from your
own flesh and blood?
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
If you turn your foot from breaking the Sabbath, from doing as you please on My holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight, and the LORD’s holy day honorable, if you honor it by not going your own way or seeking your own pleasure or speaking idle words,
And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no
intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.
He saw that there was no man; He was
amazed that there was no one to
intercede. So His
own arm brought salvation, and His
own righteousness sustained Him.
And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to
uphold: therefore mine
own arm brought salvation unto me; and my
fury, it
upheld me.
I looked, but there was no one to help; I was
appalled that no one assisted. So My arm brought Me salvation, and My
own wrath
upheld Me.
I have spread out my hands all the day unto a
rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their
own thoughts;
All day long I have held out My hands to an
obstinate people who walk in the wrong path, who follow their
own imaginations,
He that killeth an ox is as if he
slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog’s neck; he that offereth an
oblation, as if he offered
swine’s blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an
idol.
Yea, they have chosen their
own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations.
Whoever slaughters an ox is like one who slays a man;
whoever sacrifices a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck;
whoever presents a grain offering is like one who offers pig’s blood;
whoever offers
frankincense is like one who blesses an
idol. Indeed, they have chosen their
own ways and delighted in their abominations.
And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their
own hands.
I will
pronounce My judgments against them for all their wickedness, because they have
forsaken Me to burn incense to other gods and to worship the works of their
own hands.
For my people have committed two evils; they have
forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and
hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
“For My people have committed two evils: They have
forsaken Me, the fountain of living water, and they have
dug their
own cisterns— broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
Thine
own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast
forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
Your
own evil will discipline you; your
own apostasies will
reprimand you. Consider and
realize how evil and bitter it is for you to
forsake the LORD your God and to have no fear of Me,” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.
In vain have I
smitten your children; they received no correction: your
own sword hath
devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
“I have struck your sons in vain; they accepted no discipline. Your
own sword has
devoured your prophets like a
voracious lion.”
And it came to pass through the lightness of her
whoredom, that she
defiled the land, and committed
adultery with stones and with stocks.
And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
Then I will give you
shepherds after My
own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”
And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
The prophets are but wind, for the word is not in them. So let their
own predictions
befall them.”
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have
forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
And when the people ask, ‘For what
offense has the LORD our God done all these things to us?’ You are to tell them, ‘Just as you have
forsaken Me and served foreign gods in your land, so will you serve foreigners in a land that is not your
own.’”
The prophets
prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
The prophets
prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their
own authority. My people love it so, but what will you do in the end?
The
shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.
Shepherds and their flocks will come against her; they will pitch their tents all around her, each tending his
own portion:
Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not
hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
Hear, O earth! I am bringing
disaster on this people, the fruit of their
own schemes, because they have paid no attention to My word and have rejected My instruction.
If ye
oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your
hurt:
if you no longer
oppress the foreigner and the fatherless and the widow, and if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place or follow other gods to your
own harm,
Do they
provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not
provoke themselves to the confusion of their
own faces?
But am I the One they are
provoking? declares the LORD. Is it not themselves they spite, to their
own shame?
But they
hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.
Yet they did not
listen or
incline their ear, but they followed the
stubborn inclinations of their
own evil hearts. They went backward and not forward.
I
hearkened and heard, but they spake not
aright: no man
repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.
I have
listened and heard; they do not speak what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, asking, ‘What have I done?’
Everyone has pursued his
own course like a horse charging into battle.
Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall
inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to
covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
Therefore I will give their wives to other men and their fields to new
owners. For from the least of them to the greatest, all are
greedy for gain; from prophet to priest, all practice
deceit.
But have walked after the imagination of their
own heart, and after
Baalim, which their fathers taught them:
Instead, they have followed the
stubbornness of their hearts and gone after the Baals, as their fathers taught them.”
O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
I know, O LORD, that a man’s way is not his own; no one who walks directs his own steps.
For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt
treacherously with thee;
yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.
Even your brothers— your
own father’s household— even they have
betrayed you; even they have
cried aloud against you. Do not trust them, though they speak well of you.
This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this
girdle, which is good for nothing.
These evil people, who refuse to
listen to My words, who follow the
stubbornness of their
own hearts, and who go after other gods to serve and worship them, they will be like this loincloth—of no use at all.
Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets
prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they
prophesy unto you a false vision and
divination, and a thing of
nought, and the
deceit of their heart.
And the people to whom they
prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to
bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.
And the people to whom they
prophesy will be thrown into the streets of Jerusalem because of famine and sword. There will be no one to
bury them or their wives, their sons or their daughters. I will pour out their
own evil upon them.
And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.
But they will reply, ‘It is hopeless. We will follow our
own plans, and each of us will act according to the
stubbornness of his evil heart.’”
But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy
covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.
“But your eyes and heart are set on nothing except your
own dishonest gain, on
shedding innocent blood, on practicing
extortion and oppression.”
But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries
whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their
own land.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought and led the descendants of the house of Israel up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ Then they will dwell once more in their own land.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts,
Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that
prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their
own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Do not
listen to the words of the prophets who
prophesy to you. They are filling you with false hopes. They speak visions from their
own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.
They say still unto them that
despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his
own heart, No evil shall come upon you.
They keep saying to those who
despise Me, ‘The LORD says that you will have peace,’ and to
everyone who walks in the
stubbornness of his
own heart, ‘No
harm will come to you.’
How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that
prophesy lies?
yea, they are prophets of the
deceit of their
own heart;
How long will this continue in the hearts of these prophets who
prophesy falsehood, these prophets of the
delusion of their
own minds?
Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.
“
Yes,” declares the LORD, “I am against the prophets who
wag their
own tongues and
proclaim, ‘The LORD declares it.’”
Yet ye have not
hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might
provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your
own hurt.
‘But to your
own harm, you have not
listened to Me,’ declares the LORD, ‘so you have
provoked Me to anger with the works of your hands.’
For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will
recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their
own hands.
For many nations and great kings will
enslave them, and I will repay them according to their deeds and according to the work of their hands.’”
Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath
prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.
Then the priests and prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This man is worthy of death, for he has
prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your
own ears!”
And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.
All nations will serve him and his son and grandson, until the time of his
own land comes; then many nations and great kings will
enslave him.
But the nations that bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, those will I let remain still in their own land, saith the LORD; and they shall till it, and dwell therein.
But the nation that will put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will leave in its
own land, to
cultivate it and reside in it, declares the LORD.”
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to
Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,
this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “In your
own name you have sent out letters to all the people of Jerusalem, to the priest
Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests. You said to
Zephaniah:
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her
own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.
This is what the LORD says: “I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have
compassion on his dwellings. And the city will be rebuilt on her
own ruins, and the palace will stand in its rightful place.
And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD.
Their leader will be one of their
own, and their ruler will arise from their midst. And I will bring him near, and he will approach Me, for who would
dare on his
own to approach Me?” declares the LORD.
And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.
So there is hope for your future, declares the LORD, and your children will return to their own land.
But every one shall die for his
own iniquity: every man that eateth the
sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.
Instead, each will die for his
own iniquity. If
anyone eats the
sour grapes, his
own teeth will be set on edge.
So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me,
Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the
redemption is thine;
buy it for
thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
Then, as the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the
courtyard of the guard and urged me, ‘Please
buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you
own the right of inheritance and
redemption.
Buy it for
yourself.’” Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:
I will give them one heart and one way, so that they will always fear Me for their own good and for the good of their children after them.
Nor to build houses for us to dwell in: neither have we
vineyard, nor field, nor seed:
Nor have we built houses in which to live, and we have not owned any vineyards or fields or crops.
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to
enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their
own land.
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says that you are to tell the king of Judah, who sent you to Me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has marched out to help you, will go back to its own land of Egypt.
Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.
had Jeremiah brought from the
courtyard of the guard, and they turned him over to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to take him home. So Jeremiah remained among his
own people.
And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we
beseech thee, our
supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this
remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)
Jeremiah the prophet and said, “May our petition come before you; pray to the LORD your God on behalf of this entire
remnant. For few of us remain of the many, as you can see with your
own eyes.
And I will
shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your
own land.
And I will show you
compassion, and he will have
compassion on you and restore you to your
own land.’
Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers and of the kings of Judah and their wives, as well as the wickedness that you and your wives committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
But we will certainly do
whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our
own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we
plenty of
victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.
Instead, we will do everything we
vowed to do: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and offer drink offerings to her, just as we, our fathers, our kings, and our officials did in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had
plenty of food and good things, and we saw no
disaster.
He made many to fall,
yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our
own people, and to the land of our
nativity, from the
oppressing sword.
They continue to
stumble; indeed, they have fallen over one another. They say, ‘Get up! Let us return to our people and to the land of our birth, away from the sword of the
oppressor.’
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the
sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the
oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall
flee every one to his
own land.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and the one who wields the
sickle at harvest time. In the face of the
oppressor’s sword, each will turn to his
own people, each will
flee to his
own land.
We would have
healed Babylon, but she is not
healed:
forsake her, and let us go every one into his
own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the
skies.
“We tried to
heal Babylon, but she could not be
healed.
Abandon her! Let each of us go to his
own land, for her judgment extends to the sky and reaches to the clouds.”
And the king of Babylon
smote them, and put them to death in Riblah in the land of
Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away
captive out of his
own land.
There at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death. So Judah was taken into exile, away from its
own land.
The hands of the
pitiful women have
sodden their
own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
The hands of
compassionate women have
cooked their
own children, who became their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them
mourning, every one for his iniquity.
The survivors will escape and live in the mountains,
moaning like doves of the valley, each for his
own iniquity.
The king shall
mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with
desolation, and the hands of the people of the land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their deserts will I judge them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
The king will
mourn, the prince will be clothed with
despair, and the hands of the people of the land will
tremble. I will deal with them according to their conduct, and I will judge them by their
own standards. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his
imagery? for they say, The LORD
seeth us not; the LORD hath
forsaken the earth.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the
shrine of his
own idol? For they are saying, ‘The LORD does not see us; the LORD has
forsaken the land.’”
And as for me also, mine eye shall not
spare, neither will I have
pity, but I will
recompense their way upon their head.
But as for Me, I will not look on them with
pity, nor will I
spare them. I will bring their deeds down upon their
own heads.”
But as for them whose heart walketh after the heart of their
detestable things and their abominations, I will
recompense their way upon their
own heads, saith the Lord GOD.
But as for those whose hearts pursue
detestable things and abominations, I will bring their conduct down upon their
own heads, declares the Lord GOD.”
Son of man,
prophesy against the prophets of Israel that
prophesy, and say thou unto them that
prophesy out of their
own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;
“Son of man,
prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now
prophesying. Tell those who
prophesy out of their
own imagination: Hear the word of the LORD!
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe unto the
foolish prophets, that follow their
own spirit, and have seen nothing!
This is what the Lord GOD says:
Woe to the
foolish prophets who follow their
own spirit, yet have seen nothing.
Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which
prophesy out of their
own heart; and
prophesy thou against them,
Now, O son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who
prophesy out of their
own imagination.
Prophesy against them
And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe to the women that
sew pillows to all armholes, and make
kerchiefs upon the head of every
stature to
hunt souls! Will ye
hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you?
and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says:
Woe to the women who
sew magic charms on their wrists and make veils for the heads of people of every height, in order to
ensnare their souls. Will you
ensnare the souls of My people but preserve your
own?
That I may take the house of Israel in their
own heart, because they are all
estranged from me through their idols.
so that I may take hold of the hearts of the people of Israel. For because of their idols, they are all
estranged from Me.’
Though these three men,
Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their
own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.
then even if these three men—
Noah, Daniel, and Job—were in it, their righteousness could deliver only themselves, declares the Lord GOD.
Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be
desolate.
then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if these three men were in it, they could not deliver their
own sons or daughters. They alone would be delivered, but the land would be
desolate.
Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.
then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if these three men were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. They alone would be delivered.
Though
Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their
own souls by their righteousness.
then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if
Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they could not deliver their
own sons or daughters. Their righteousness could deliver only themselves.
And when I passed by thee, and saw thee
polluted in thine
own blood, I said unto thee when thou
wast in thy blood, Live;
yea, I said unto thee when thou
wast in thy blood, Live.
Then I passed by and saw you
wallowing in your blood, and as you lay there in your blood I said to you, ‘Live!’ There I said to you, ‘Live!’
But thou
didst trust in thine
own beauty, and playedst the
harlot because of thy
renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.
But because of your fame, you trusted in your beauty and played the
harlot. You
lavished your favors on
everyone who passed by, and your beauty was theirs for the asking.
And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou
wast naked and bare, and
wast polluted in thy blood.
And in all your abominations and acts of
prostitution, you did not remember the days of your youth when you were naked and bare,
wallowing in your
own blood.
But as a wife that committeth
adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband!
You
adulterous wife! You receive strangers instead of your
own husband!
Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast
fretted me in all these things; behold, therefore I also will
recompense thy way upon thine head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt not commit this
lewdness above all thine abominations.
Because you did not remember the days of your youth, but
enraged Me with all these things, I will surely bring your deeds down upon your
own head, declares the Lord GOD. Have you not committed this
lewdness on top of all your other abominations?
Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine
own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more
abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou:
yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.
So now you must bear your disgrace, since you have brought
justification for your sisters. For they appear more righteous than you, because your sins were more
vile than theirs. So you too must bear your shame and disgrace, since you have made your sisters appear righteous.
That thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them.
So you will bear your disgrace and be
ashamed of all you did to comfort them.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath
despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I
recompense upon his
own head.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘As surely as I live, I will bring down upon his head My oath that he
despised and My covenant that he broke.
Hath given forth upon
usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
He engages in
usury and takes excess interest. Will this son live? He will not! Since he has committed all these abominations, he will surely die; his blood will be on his
own head.
As for his father, because he cruelly
oppressed,
spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.
As for his father, he will die for his
own iniquity, because he practiced
extortion,
robbed his brother, and did what was wrong among his people.
And I
polluted them in their
own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that openeth the
womb, that I might make them
desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD.
And I pronounced them unclean through their gifts—the sacrifice of every
firstborn in the fire—so that I might
devastate them, in order that they would know that I am the LORD.
And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been
defiled; and ye shall
lothe yourselves in your
own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.
