Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
Your servant is here among the people You have chosen, a people too numerous to count or number.
Give therefore thy
servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may
discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
Therefore give Your
servant an understanding heart to judge Your people and to
discern between good and evil. For who is able to
govern this great people of Yours?”
And Solomon
awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his
servants.
Then Solomon
awoke, and indeed it had been a dream. So he returned to Jerusalem, stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Then he held a feast for all his
servants.
And
Hiram king of Tyre sent his
servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had
anointed him king in the room of his father: for
Hiram was ever a lover of David.
Now when
Hiram king of Tyre heard that Solomon had been
anointed king in his father’s place, he sent envoys to Solomon; for
Hiram had always been a friend of David.
Now therefore command thou that they
hew me
cedar trees out of
Lebanon; and my
servants shall be with thy
servants: and unto thee will I give
hire for thy
servants according to all that thou shalt
appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to
hew timber like unto the Sidonians.
Now therefore, order that cedars of
Lebanon be cut down for me. My
servants will be with your
servants, and I will pay your
servants whatever wages you set, for you know that there are none among us as skilled in
logging as the Sidonians.”
My
servants shall bring them down from
Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt
appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt
accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
My
servants will
haul the logs from
Lebanon to the Sea, and I will
float them as rafts by sea to the place you
specify. There I will separate the logs, and you can take them away. And in exchange, you can meet my needs by providing my household with food.”
And he said, LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:
and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven above or on earth below, keeping Your covenant of loving devotion with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.
Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
You have kept Your promise to Your servant, my father David. What You spoke with Your mouth You have fulfilled with Your hand this day.
Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy
servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take
heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk before Me as you have done.’
And now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be
verified, which thou spakest unto thy
servant David my father.
And now, O God of Israel, please
confirm what You promised to Your
servant, my father David.
Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy
servant, and to his
supplication, O LORD my God, to
hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy
servant prayeth before thee to day:
Yet regard the prayer and
plea of Your
servant, O LORD my God, so that You may hear the cry and the prayer that Your
servant is praying before You
today.
That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest
hearken unto the prayer which thy
servant shall make toward this place.
May Your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.
And
hearken thou to the
supplication of thy
servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest,
forgive.
Hear the
plea of Your
servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place. May You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place. May You hear and
forgive.
Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy
servants,
condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and
justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.
then may You hear from heaven and act. May You judge Your
servants,
condemning the wicked man by bringing down on his own head what he has done, and
justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
Then hear thou in heaven, and
forgive the sin of thy
servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.
then may You hear from heaven and
forgive the sin of Your
servants, Your people Israel, so that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk. May You send rain on the land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.
That thine eyes may be open unto the
supplication of thy
servant, and unto the
supplication of thy people Israel, to
hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee.
May Your eyes be open to the pleas of Your
servant and of Your people Israel, and may You
listen to them whenever they call to You.
For thou
didst separate them from among all the people of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest by the hand of Moses thy
servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord GOD.
For You, O Lord GOD, as Your inheritance, have set them apart from all the peoples of the earth, as You spoke through Your servant Moses when You brought our fathers out of Egypt.”
Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.
“Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to His people Israel according to all that He promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises He made through His servant Moses.
And let these my words,
wherewith I have made
supplication before the LORD, be
nigh unto the LORD our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his
servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require:
And may these words with which I have made my petition before the LORD be near to the LORD our God day and night, so that He may
uphold the cause of His
servant and of His people Israel as each day requires,
On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and
glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done for David his
servant, and for Israel his people.
On the
fifteenth day Solomon sent the people away. So they blessed the king and went home, joyful and
glad in heart for all the good things that the LORD had done for His
servant David and for His people Israel.
But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no
bondmen: but they were men of war, and his
servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his
chariots, and his
horsemen.
But Solomon did not
consign any of the Israelites to slavery, because they were his men of war, his
servants, his officers, his captains, and the commanders of his
chariots and cavalry.
And
Hiram sent in the navy his
servants,
shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the
servants of Solomon.
And
Hiram sent his
servants, men who knew the sea, to serve in the fleet with Solomon’s
servants.
And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his
servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their
apparel, and his cupbearers, and his
ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.
the food at his table, the seating of his
servants, the service and
attire of his attendants and cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he presented at the house of the LORD, it took her breath away.
Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.
How blessed are your men! How blessed are these servants of yours who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom!
And king Solomon gave unto the queen of
Sheba all her desire,
whatsoever she asked, beside that which Solomon gave her of his royal
bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her
servants.
King Solomon gave the queen of
Sheba all she desired—whatever she asked—besides what he had given her out of his royal
bounty. Then she left and returned to her own country, along with her
servants.
Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon,
Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely
rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy
servant.
Then the LORD said to Solomon, “Because you have done this and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will
tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your
servant.
Howbeit I will not
rend away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to thy son for David my
servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake which I have chosen.
Yet I will not
tear the whole kingdom away from him. I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of My
servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”
That
Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father’s
servants with him, to go into Egypt;
Hadad being yet a little child.
But
Hadad, still just a young boy, had fled to Egypt, along with some Edomites who were
servants of his father.
And
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda, Solomon’s
servant, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow woman, even he lifted up his hand against the king.
Now
Jeroboam son of Nebat was an Ephraimite from Zeredah whose mother was a widow named Zeruah.
Jeroboam was a
servant of Solomon, but he rebelled against the king,
(But he shall have one tribe for my servant David’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel:)
But one tribe will remain for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.
Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my
servant’s sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes:
Nevertheless, I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand, because I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David My servant, whom I chose because he kept My commandments and statutes.
And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my
servant may have a light
alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.
I will give one tribe to his son, so that My servant David will always have a lamp before Me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put My Name.
And it shall be, if thou
wilt hearken unto all that I command thee, and
wilt walk in my ways, and do that is right in my sight, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my
servant did; that I will be with thee, and build thee a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel unto thee.
If you
listen to all that I command you, walk in My ways, and do what is right in My sight in order to keep My statutes and commandments as My
servant David did, then I will be with you. I will build you a lasting dynasty just as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you.
And they spake unto him, saying, If thou
wilt be a
servant unto this people this day, and
wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy
servants for ever.
They replied, “If you will be a
servant to these people and serve them this day, and if you will
respond by speaking kind words to them, they will be your
servants forever.”
And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;
I
tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you. But you were not like My
servant David, who kept My commandments and followed Me with all his heart, doing only what was right in My eyes.
And they buried him; and all Israel
mourned for him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by the hand of his
servant Ahijah the prophet.
And they buried him, and all Israel
mourned for him, according to the word that the LORD had spoken through His
servant Ahijah the prophet.
Then
Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house, and delivered them into the hand of his
servants: and king
Asa sent them to Ben-
hadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
So
Asa withdrew all the silver and gold that remained in the
treasuries of the house of the LORD and the royal palace. He entrusted it to his
servants and sent them with this message to Ben-
hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion king of
Aram, who was ruling in Damascus:
And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he
smote all the house of
Jeroboam; he left not to
Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the LORD, which he spake by his
servant Ahijah the Shilonite:
As soon as
Baasha became king, he struck down the entire household of
Jeroboam. He did not leave to
Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all according to the word that the LORD had spoken through His
servant Ahijah the Shilonite,
And his
servant Zimri, captain of half his
chariots,
conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah, drinking himself
drunk in the house of Arza
steward of his house in Tirzah.
However, while Elah was in Tirzah getting
drunk in the house of Arza the
steward of his household there, Elah’s
servant Zimri, the commander of half his
chariots,
conspired against him.
And he said, What have I
sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy
servant into the hand of
Ahab, to
slay me?
But
Obadiah replied, “How have I
sinned, that you are handing your
servant over to
Ahab to put me to death?
And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD shall carry thee
whither I know not; and so when I come and tell
Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall
slay me: but I thy
servant fear the LORD from my youth.
I do not know where the Spirit of the LORD may carry you off when I leave you. Then when I go and tell
Ahab and he does not find you, he will kill me. But I, your
servant, have feared the LORD from my youth.
And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that
Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy
servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
At the time of the evening sacrifice,
Elijah the prophet approached the altar and said, “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and that I am Your
servant and have done all these things at Your command.
And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
“Go and look toward the sea,” he said to his
servant. So the
servant went and looked, and he said, “There is nothing there.” Seven times
Elijah said, “Go back.”
And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto
Ahab, Prepare thy
chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.
On the seventh time the
servant reported, “There is a cloud as small as a man’s hand rising from the sea.” And
Elijah replied, “Go and tell
Ahab, ‘Prepare your
chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’”
And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-
sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his
servant there.
And
Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to
Beersheba in Judah, he left his
servant there,
Yet I will send my
servants unto thee to
morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy
servants; and it shall be, that
whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.
But about this time
tomorrow I will send my
servants to search your palace and the houses of your
servants. They will seize and carry away all that is precious to you.’”
Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Ben-
hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou
didst send for to thy
servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
So
Ahab answered the messengers of Ben-
hadad, “Tell my lord the king, ‘All that you demanded of your
servant the first time I will do, but this thing I cannot do.’” So the messengers departed and relayed the message to Ben-
hadad.
And it came to pass, when Ben-
hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his
servants, Set
yourselves in
array. And they set themselves in
array against the city.
Ben-
hadad received this message while he and the kings were drinking in their tents, and he said to his
servants, “Take your positions.” So they stationed themselves against the city.
And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
Meanwhile, the
servants of the king of
Aram said to him, “Their gods are gods of the hills. That is why they prevailed over us. Instead, we should fight them on the plains; surely then we will prevail.
And his
servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are
merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put
sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel:
peradventure he will save thy life.
Then the
servants of Ben-
hadad said to him, “Look now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are
merciful. Let us go out to the king of Israel with
sackcloth around our waists and ropes around our heads. Perhaps he will
spare your life.”
So they
girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy
servant Ben-
hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
So with
sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they went to the king of Israel and said, “Your
servant Ben-
hadad says, ‘Please
spare my life.’” And the king answered, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”
And as the king passed by, he
cried unto the king: and he said, Thy
servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
As the king passed by, he
cried out to the king: “Your
servant had marched out into the middle of the battle, when suddenly a man came over with a
captive and told me, ‘Guard this man! If he goes missing for any reason, your life will be exchanged for his life, or you will
weigh out a talent of silver.’
And as thy
servant was
busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be;
thyself hast decided it.
But while your
servant was
busy here and there, the man disappeared.” And the king of Israel said to him, “So shall your judgment be; you have pronounced it on
yourself.”
And the king of Israel said unto his
servants, Know ye that
Ramoth in
Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?
who said to his
servants, “Do you not know that
Ramoth-
gilead is ours, but we have failed to take it from the hand of the king of
Aram?”
And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before
Elijah, and
besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy
servants, be precious in thy sight.
So the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. And the third captain went up, fell on his knees before
Elijah, and
begged him, “Man of God, may my life and the lives of these fifty
servants please be precious in your sight.
And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy
servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest
peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
“Look now,” they said to
Elisha, “we your
servants have fifty
valiant men. Please let them go and search for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and put him on one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.” “Do not send them,”
Elisha replied.
But
Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may
enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s
servants answered and said, Here is
Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of
Elijah.
But
Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no prophet of the LORD here? Let us inquire of the LORD through him.” And one of the
servants of the king of Israel answered, “
Elisha son of Shaphat is here. He used to pour water on the hands of
Elijah.”
Now there
cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto
Elisha, saying, Thy
servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy
servant did fear the LORD: and the
creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be
bondmen.
Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets
cried out to
Elisha, “Your
servant, my husband, is dead, and you know that your
servant feared the LORD. And now his
creditor is coming to take my two children as his slaves!”
And
Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine
handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
“How can I help you?” asked
Elisha. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She answered, “Your
servant has nothing in the house but a
jar of oil.”
And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.
And he said to Gehazi his servant, “Call the Shunammite woman.” And when he had called her, she stood before him,
And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a
lad, Carry him to his mother.
“My head! My head!” he
complained to his father. So his father told a
servant, “Carry him to his mother.”
And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till
noon, and then died.
After the
servant had
picked him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her
lap until
noon, and then he died.
And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the
asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.
And the woman called her husband and said, “Please send me one of the
servants and one of the
donkeys, that I may go quickly to the man of God and return.”
Then she
saddled an
ass, and said to her
servant, Drive, and go forward;
slack not thy riding for me, except I
bid thee.
So she went and came unto the man of God to mount
Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her
afar off, that he said to Gehazi his
servant, Behold,
yonder is that Shunammite:
So she set out and went to the man of God at Mount
Carmel. When the man of God saw her at a distance, he said to his
servant Gehazi, “Look, there is the Shunammite woman.
And
Elisha came again to
Gilgal: and there was a
dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his
servant, Set on the great pot, and
seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.
When
Elisha returned to
Gilgal, there was a famine in the land. As the sons of the prophets were sitting at his feet, he said to his
attendant, “Put on the large pot and
boil some
stew for the sons of the prophets.”
And his
servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.
But his
servant asked, “How am I to set twenty
loaves before a hundred men?” “Give it to the people to eat,” said
Elisha, “for this is what the LORD says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.’”
And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have
therewith sent
Naaman my
servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his
leprosy.
And the letter that he took to the king of Israel stated: “With this letter I am sending my
servant Naaman, so that you may cure him of his
leprosy.”
And his
servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had
bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?
Naaman’s
servants, however, approached him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be
cleansed’?”
And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.
Then
Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God, stood before him, and declared, “Now I know for sure that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your
servant.”
And
Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy
servant two mules’ burden of earth? for thy
servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.
“If you will not,” said
Naaman, “please let me, your
servant, be given as much soil as a pair of mules can carry. For your
servant will never again make a burnt offering or a sacrifice to any other god but the LORD.
In this thing the LORD
pardon thy
servant, that when my master goeth into the house of
Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of
Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of
Rimmon, the LORD
pardon thy
servant in this thing.
Yet may the LORD
forgive your
servant this one thing: When my master goes into the temple of
Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my arm, and I bow down in the temple of
Rimmon, may the LORD
forgive your
servant in this matter.”
But Gehazi, the
servant of
Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath
spared Naaman this
Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.
Gehazi, the
servant of
Elisha the man of God, said, “Look, my master has
spared this
Aramean,
Naaman, while not accepting what he brought. As surely as the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”
And
Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them upon two of his
servants; and they bare them before him.
But
Naaman insisted, “Please, take two talents.” And he urged Gehazi to accept them. Then he
tied up two talents of silver in two bags along with two sets of clothing and gave them to two of his
servants, who carried them
ahead of Gehazi.
And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.
When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the gifts from the servants and stored them in the house. Then he dismissed the men, and they departed.
But he went in, and stood before his master. And
Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy
servant went no
whither.
When Gehazi went in and stood before his master,
Elisha asked him, “Gehazi, where have you been?” “Your
servant did not go
anywhere,” he replied.
And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.
Then one of them said, “Please come with your servants.” “I will come,” he replied.
Then the king of Syria
warred against Israel, and took counsel with his
servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.
Now the king of
Aram was at war against Israel. After
consulting with his
servants, he said, “My camp will be in such and such a place.”
Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was
sore troubled for this thing; and he called his
servants, and said unto them, Will ye not
shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?
For this reason the king of
Aram became
enraged and called his
servants to demand of them, “Tell me, which one of us is on the side of the king of Israel?”
And one of his
servants said, None, my lord, O king: but
Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy
bedchamber.
But one of his
servants replied, “No one, my lord the king. For
Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your
bedroom.”
And when the
servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and
chariots. And his
servant said unto him,
Alas, my master! how shall we do?
When the
servant of the man of God got up and went out early in the morning, an army with horses and
chariots had surrounded the city. So he asked
Elisha, “Oh, my master, what are we to do?”
And the king arose in the night, and said unto his
servants, I will now
shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be
hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.
So the king got up in the night and said to his
servants, “Let me tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know we are
starving, so they have left the camp to hide in the field, thinking, ‘When they come out of the city, we will take them alive and enter the city.’”
And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.
But one of his
servants replied, “Please, have scouts take five of the horses that remain in the city. Their
plight will be no worse than all the Israelites who are left here. You can see that all the Israelites here are
doomed. So let us send them and find out.”
And the king talked with Gehazi the
servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that
Elisha hath done.
Now the king had been speaking to Gehazi, the
servant of the man of God, saying, “Please relate to me all the great things
Elisha has done.”
And
Hazael said, But what, is thy
servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And
Elisha answered, The LORD hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.
“But how could your
servant, a mere dog, do such a
monstrous thing?” said
Hazael. And
Elisha answered, “The LORD has shown me that you will be king over
Aram.”
Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah for David his
servant’s sake, as he promised him to give him
alway a light, and to his children.
Yet for the sake of His
servant David, the LORD was unwilling to destroy Judah, since He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants
forever.
And thou shalt
smite the house of
Ahab thy master, that I may
avenge the blood of my
servants the prophets, and the blood of all the
servants of the LORD, at the hand of
Jezebel.
And you are to strike down the house of your master
Ahab, so that I may
avenge the blood of My
servants the prophets and the blood of all the
servants of the LORD shed by the hand of
Jezebel.
Then
Jehu came forth to the
servants of his lord: and one said unto him, Is all well? wherefore came this
mad fellow to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man, and his communication.
When
Jehu went out to the
servants of his master, they asked, “Is everything all right? Why did this
madman come to you?” “You know his kind and their
babble,” he replied.
And his
servants carried him in a
chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his
sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David.
Then his
servants carried him by
chariot to Jerusalem and buried him with his fathers in his tomb in the City of David.
Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the LORD, which he spake by his
servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of
Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of
Jezebel:
So they went back and told
Jehu, who replied, “This is the word of the LORD, which He spoke through His
servant Elijah the Tishbite: ‘On the plot of ground at
Jezreel the dogs will
devour the flesh of
Jezebel.
And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to
Jehu, saying, We are thy
servants, and will do all that thou shalt
bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.
So the palace
administrator, the
overseer of the city, the elders, and the guardians sent a message to
Jehu: “We are your
servants, and we will do whatever you say. We will not make
anyone king. Do whatever is good in your sight.”
Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the LORD, which the LORD spake concerning the house of
Ahab: for the LORD hath done that which he spake by his
servant Elijah.
Know, then, that not a word the LORD has spoken against the house of
Ahab will fail, for the LORD has done what He promised through His
servant Elijah.”
Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of
Baal, all his
servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to
Baal;
whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But
Jehu did it in
subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of
Baal.
Now, therefore,
summon to me all the prophets of
Baal, all his
servants, and all his priests. See that no one is missing, for I have a great sacrifice for
Baal.
Whoever is missing will not live.” But
Jehu was acting
deceptively in order to destroy the
servants of
Baal.
And
Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of
Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of
Baal; and the house of
Baal was full from one end to another.
Then
Jehu sent word throughout Israel, and all the
servants of
Baal came; there was not a man who failed to show. They entered the temple of
Baal, and it was filled from end to end.
And
Jehu said to the keeper of the
wardrobe, “Bring out garments for all the
servants of
Baal.” So he brought out garments for them.
And
Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of
Baal, and said unto the worshippers of
Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the
servants of the LORD, but the worshippers of
Baal only.
Next,
Jehu and Jehonadab son of Rechab entered the temple of
Baal, and
Jehu said to the
servants of
Baal, “Look around to see that there are no
servants of the LORD here among you—only
servants of
Baal.”
And the
servants of
Joash rose up and formed a
conspiracy and killed him at Beth-
millo, on the road down to Silla.
For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his
servants,
smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and
Amaziah his son reigned in his
stead.
His
servants Jozabad son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer struck him down, and he died. And they buried him with his fathers in the City of David, and his son
Amaziah reigned in his place.
And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he
slew his
servants which had slain the king his father.
As soon as the kingdom was firmly in his
grasp,
Amaziah executed the
servants who had murdered his father the king.
