wedding songs.

the sword; and
their widows made no
lamentation.

the sword, but
their widows could not
lament.
Then the Lord
awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
Then the Lord
awoke as from sleep, like a mighty
warrior overcome by wine.
And he
smote his enemies in
the hinder parts: he put
them to a perpetual reproach.
He beat back His foes; He put
them to
everlasting shame.
Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
He rejected the tent of Joseph and refused the tribe of Ephraim.
But chose
the tribe of Judah,
the mount
Zion which he loved.
But He chose
the tribe of Judah, Mount
Zion, which He loved.

the heights, like
the earth He has established
forever.

from tending
the ewes He brought him to be
shepherd of His people Jacob, of Israel His inheritance.

them according to
the integrity of his heart; and guided
them by
the skilfulness of his hands.
O God,
the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have
they defiled;
they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
The nations, O God, have invaded Your inheritance;
they have
defiled Your holy temple and reduced Jerusalem to
rubble.
The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.
They have given the corpses of Your servants as food to the birds of the air, the flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.
Their blood have
they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and
there was none to
bury them.
They have poured out
their blood like water all around Jerusalem, and
there is no one to
bury the dead.
We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a
scorn and
derision to
them that are round about us.
We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a
scorn and
derision to those around us.
Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge You, on the kingdoms that refuse to call on Your name,
For
they have
devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.
Help us, O God of our salvation, for
the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and
purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake.
Help us, O God of our salvation, for
the glory of Your name; deliver us and
atone for our sins, for
the sake of Your name.
Wherefore should
the heathen say, Where is
their God? let him be known among
the heathen in our sight by
the revenging of
the blood of thy servants which is shed.
Why should
the nations ask, “Where is
their God?” Before our eyes, make known among
the nations Your
vengeance for
the bloodshed of Your servants.
Let
the sighing of
the prisoner come before
thee; according to
the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;
May
the groans of
the captives reach You; by
the strength of Your arm preserve those condemned to death.
And render unto our neighbours
sevenfold into
their bosom their reproach,
wherewith they have reproached
thee, O Lord.
Pay back into
the laps of our neighbors
sevenfold the reproach
they hurled at You, O Lord.
So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give
thee thanks for ever: we will
shew forth thy praise to all generations.
Then we Your people,
the sheep of Your pasture, will
thank You
forever; from generation to generation we will declare Your praise.
Give ear, O
Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between
the cherubims,
shine forth.
Hear us, O
Shepherd of Israel, who leads Joseph like a flock; You who sit enthroned between
the cherubim,
shine forth
O LORD God of hosts, how long
wilt thou be
angry against
the prayer of thy people?
O LORD God of Hosts, how long will Your anger
smolder against
the prayers of Your people?
Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.
You fed them with the bread of tears and made them drink the full measure of their tears.
Thou makest us a
strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies
laugh among
themselves.
You make us
contend with our neighbors; our enemies
mock us.
Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.
You uprooted a vine from Egypt; You drove out
the nations and
transplanted it.
Thou preparedst room before it, and
didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled
the land.
You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land.
The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.
The mountains were covered by its shade, and the mighty cedars with its branches.
She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.
It sent out its branches to the Sea, and its shoots toward the River.
Why hast thou
then broken down her hedges, so that all
they which pass by
the way do
pluck her?
Why have You broken down its walls, so that all who pass by
pick its fruit?
The boar from
the forest ravages it, and
the creatures of
the field feed upon it.
Return, we
beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;
Return, O God of Hosts, we pray! Look down from heaven and see! Attend to this vine—
And
the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and
the branch that thou madest strong for
thyself.
the root Your right hand has planted,
the son You have raised up for
Yourself.
It is burned with fire, it is cut down:
they perish at
the rebuke of thy countenance.
Your vine has been cut down and burned;
they perish at
the rebuke of Your countenance.
Let thy hand be upon
the man of thy right hand, upon
the son of man whom thou madest strong for
thyself.
Let Your hand be upon
the man at Your right hand, on
the son of man You have raised up for
Yourself.
So will not we go back from
thee:
quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.
Then we will not turn away from You; revive us, and we will call on Your name.
Sing
aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto
the God of Jacob.
Sing for joy to God our strength; make a joyful noise to the God of Jacob.
Blow up
the trumpet in
the new moon, in
the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.
Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and at the full moon on the day of our Feast.
For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.
For this is a statute for Israel, an
ordinance of
the God of Jacob.
This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt: where I heard a language that I understood not.
He ordained it as a testimony for Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt, where I heard an unfamiliar language:
I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots.
“I relieved his shoulder of
the burden; his hands were freed from
the basket.
Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered
thee; I answered
thee in
the secret place of
thunder: I proved
thee at
the waters of Meribah.
Selah.
You called out in distress, and I
rescued you; I answered you from
the cloud of
thunder; I tested you at
the waters of Meribah.
Selah Hear, O My people, and I will
warn you: O Israel, if only you would
listen to Me!
There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.
There must be no strange god among you, nor shall you bow to a foreign god.
I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth, and I will fill it.
So I gave
them up unto
their own hearts’
lust: and
they walked in
their own counsels.
So I gave
them up to
their stubborn hearts to follow
their own devices.
I should soon have subdued
their enemies, and turned my hand against
their adversaries.
how soon I would
subdue their enemies and turn My hand against
their foes!
The haters of
the LORD should have submitted
themselves unto him: but
their time should have
endured for ever.
He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.
But I would feed you the finest wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
God presides in the divine assembly; He renders judgment among the gods:
How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept
the persons of
the wicked?
Selah.
Defend
the poor and fatherless: do justice to
the afflicted and
needy.
Deliver
the poor and
needy: rid
them out of
the hand of
the wicked.
Rescue the weak and
needy; save
them from
the hand of
the wicked.
They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
They do not know or understand;
they wander in
the darkness; all
the foundations of
the earth are
shaken.
I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
I have said, ‘You are gods; you are all sons of the Most High.’
But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
But like mortals you will die, and like rulers you will fall.”
Arise, O God, judge
the earth: for thou shalt
inherit all nations.
Arise, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are Your inheritance.
For, lo, thine enemies make a
tumult: and
they that
hate thee have lifted up
the head.
See how Your enemies
rage, how Your foes have reared
their heads.
They have taken
crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.
They have said, Come, and let us cut
them off from being a nation; that
the name of Israel may be no more in
remembrance.
saying, “Come, let us
erase them as a nation; may
the name of Israel be remembered no more.”
For
they have consulted together with one consent:
they are
confederate against
thee:
For with one mind they plot together, they form an alliance against You—
Gebal, and
Ammon, and Amalek;
the Philistines with
the inhabitants of Tyre;
of Gebal,
Ammon, and Amalek, of Philistia with
the people of Tyre.
Assur also is joined with
them:
they have
holpen the children of Lot.
Selah.
Even Assyria has joined
them,
lending strength to
the sons of Lot.
Selah Do unto
them as unto
the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at
the brook of Kison:
Do to
them as You did to
Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at
the River
Kishon,
Which perished at
Endor:
they became as dung for
the earth.
who perished at
Endor and became like dung on
the ground.
Make
their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb:
yea, all
their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.
who said, “Let us possess for ourselves the pastures of God.”
O my God, make
them like a wheel; as
the stubble before
the wind.
As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;
As fire consumes a forest, as a flame sets
the mountains
ablaze,
Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD.
Cover their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD.
Let
them be confounded and troubled for ever;
yea, let
them be put to shame, and perish:
That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.
May they know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, are Most High over all the earth.
My soul longeth,
yea, even fainteth for
the courts of
the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for
the living God.
My soul longs, even
faints, for
the courts of
the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for
the living God.
Yea,
the sparrow hath found an house, and
the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.
Even
the sparrow has found a home, and
the swallow a nest for herself, where she places her young near Your altars, O LORD of Hosts, my King and my God.
Blessed are
they that dwell in thy house:
they will be still praising
thee.
Selah.
How blessed are those who dwell in Your house!
They are ever praising You.
Selah Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.
Blessed are those whose strength is in You, whose hearts are set on
pilgrimage.
Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.
As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; even the autumn rain covers it with pools.
They go from strength to strength, every one of
them in
Zion appeareth before God.
They go from strength to strength, until each appears before God in
Zion.
Behold, O God our shield, and look upon
the face of thine
anointed.
Take notice of our shield, O God, and look with favor on
the face of Your
anointed.
For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a
doorkeeper in
the house of my God, than to dwell in
the tents of wickedness.
For better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a
doorkeeper in
the house of my God than dwell in
the tents of
the wicked.
For
the LORD God is a sun and shield:
the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he
withhold from
them that walk uprightly.
For
the LORD God is a sun and a shield;
the LORD gives grace and glory; He withholds no good thing from those who walk with
integrity.
O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
O LORD of Hosts, how blessed is the man who trusts in You!
LORD, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.
You showed favor to Your land, O LORD; You restored Jacob from captivity.
Thou hast
forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all
their sin.
Selah.
You
forgave the iniquity of Your people; You covered all
their sin.
Selah Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned
thyself from
the fierceness of thine anger.
You
withheld all Your
fury; You turned from Your burning anger.
Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may
rejoice in
thee?
Will You not revive us again, that Your people may
rejoice in You?
I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.
I will
listen to what God
the LORD will say; for He will surely speak peace to His people and His saints; He will not let
them return to folly.
Surely his salvation is
nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.
Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that His glory may dwell in our land.
Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
Faithfulness
sprouts from
the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven.
Yea,
the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.
The LORD will indeed provide what is good, and our land will yield its increase.
Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.
Righteousness will go before Him to prepare the way for His steps.
Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee.
Preserve my soul, for I am godly. You are my God; save Your servant who trusts in You.
Be
merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto
thee daily.
Be
merciful to me, O Lord, for I call to You all day long.
Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto
thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
Bring joy to Your servant, for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to
forgive; and
plenteous in mercy unto all
them that call upon
thee.
For You, O Lord, are kind and
forgiving, rich in loving devotion to all who call on You.
Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.
Hear my prayer, O LORD, and attend to my
plea for mercy.
In
the day of my trouble I will call upon
thee: for thou
wilt answer me.
In the day of my distress I call on You, because You answer me.
