For a small moment have I
forsaken thee; but with great
mercies will I gather
thee.
In a little wrath I
hid my face from
thee for a moment; but with
everlasting kindness will I have mercy on
thee, saith
the LORD thy
Redeemer.
For this is as
the waters of
Noah unto me: for as I have
sworn that
the waters of
Noah should no more go over
the earth; so have I
sworn that I would not be
wroth with
thee, nor
rebuke thee.
“For to Me this is like
the days of
Noah, when I
swore that
the waters of
Noah would never again cover
the earth. So I have
sworn that I will not be
angry with you or
rebuke you.
For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
Though
the mountains may be removed and
the hills may be
shaken, My loving devotion will not depart from you, and My covenant of peace will not be broken,” says
the LORD, who has
compassion on you.
And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
Then all your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their prosperity.
In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.
In righteousness you will be established, far from oppression, for you will have no fear. Terror will be far removed, for it will not come near you.
Behold,
they shall surely gather together, but not by me:
whosoever shall gather together against
thee shall fall for thy sake.
If
anyone attacks you, it is not from Me;
whoever assails you will fall before you.
Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.
Behold, I have created
the craftsman who fans
the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its task; and I have created
the destroyer to
wreak havoc.
No weapon that is formed against
thee shall
prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against
thee in judgment thou shalt
condemn. This is
the heritage of
the servants of
the LORD, and
their righteousness is of me, saith
the LORD.
No weapon formed against you shall
prosper, and you will
refute every tongue that accuses you. This is
the heritage of
the servants of
the LORD, and
their vindication is from Me,” declares
the LORD.
Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to
the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye,
buy, and eat;
yea, come,
buy wine and milk without money and without price.
“Come, all you who are
thirsty, come to
the waters; and you without money, come,
buy, and eat! Come,
buy wine and milk without money and without cost!
Wherefore do ye
spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not?
hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
Why
spend money on that which is not bread, and your labor on that which does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in
the richest of foods.
Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an
everlasting covenant with you, even
the sure
mercies of David.
Incline your ear and come to Me;
listen, so that your soul may live. I will make with you an
everlasting covenant— My loving devotion promised to David.
Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people.
Behold, I have made him a witness to the nations, a leader and commander of the peoples.
Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not
thee shall run unto
thee because of
the LORD thy God, and for
the Holy One of Israel; for he hath
glorified thee.
Surely you will
summon a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you will run to you. For
the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel, has bestowed glory on you.”
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
Seek the LORD while He may be found; call on Him while He is near.
Let
the wicked
forsake his way, and
the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto
the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly
pardon.
Let
the wicked man
forsake his own way and
the unrighteous man his own thoughts; let him return to
the LORD, that He may have
compassion, and to our God, for He will freely
pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.
For as
the rain cometh down, and
the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth
the earth, and maketh it bring forth and
bud, that it may give seed to
the sower, and bread to
the eater:
For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return without watering
the earth, making it
bud and
sprout, and providing seed to
sow and food to eat,
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall
accomplish that which I please, and it shall
prosper in
the thing
whereto I sent it.
so My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will
accomplish what I please, and it will
prosper where I send it.
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace:
the mountains and
the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all
the trees of
the field shall
clap their hands.
You will indeed go out with joy and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills will
burst into song before you, and all
the trees of
the field will
clap their hands.
Instead of
the thorn shall come up
the fir tree, and instead of
the brier shall come up
the myrtle tree: and it shall be to
the LORD for a name, for an
everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
Instead of
the thornbush, a
cypress will grow, and instead of
the brier, a
myrtle will spring up;
they will make a name for
the LORD, an
everlasting sign, never to be destroyed.”
Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed.
This is what the LORD says: “Maintain justice and do what is right, for My salvation is coming soon, and My righteousness will be revealed.
Blessed is
the man that doeth this, and
the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth
the sabbath from
polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
Blessed is
the man who does this, and
the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps
the Sabbath without
profaning it and keeps his hand from doing any evil.”
Neither let
the son of
the stranger, that hath joined himself to
the LORD, speak, saying,
The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let
the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.
Let no foreigner who has joined himself to
the LORD say, “
The LORD will utterly
exclude me from His people.” And let
the eunuch not say, “I am but a dry tree.”
For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;
For this is what the LORD says: “To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, who choose what pleases Me and hold fast to My covenant—
Even unto
them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give
them an
everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
I will give
them, in My house and within My walls, a
memorial and a name better than that of sons and daughters. I will give
them an
everlasting name that will not be cut off.
Also
the sons of
the stranger, that join
themselves to
the LORD, to serve him, and to love
the name of
the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth
the sabbath from
polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
And
the foreigners who join
themselves to
the LORD to minister to Him, to love
the name of
the LORD, and to be His servants— all who keep
the Sabbath without
profaning it and who hold fast to My covenant—
Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
I will bring them to My holy mountain and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My altar, for My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations.”
The Lord GOD which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.
Thus declares
the Lord GOD, who gathers
the dispersed of Israel: “I will gather to
them still others besides those already gathered.”
All ye beasts of
the field, come to
devour,
yea, all ye beasts in
the forest.
Come, all you beasts of
the field; eat
greedily, all you beasts of
the forest.
His
watchmen are blind:
they are all ignorant,
they are all
dumb dogs,
they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to
slumber.
Israel’s
watchmen are blind,
they are all
oblivious;
they are all
mute dogs,
they cannot bark;
they are dreamers lying around, loving to
slumber.
Yea,
they are
greedy dogs which can never have enough, and
they are
shepherds that cannot understand:
they all look to
their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.
Like
ravenous dogs,
they are never satisfied.
They are
shepherds with no
discernment;
they all turn to
their own way, each one seeking his own gain:
Come ye, say
they, I will
fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to
morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant.
“Come, let me get
the wine, let us
imbibe the strong drink, and
tomorrow will be like
today, only far better!”
The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and
merciful men are taken away, none considering that
the righteous is taken away from
the evil to come.
The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart;
devout men are swept away, while no one considers that
the righteous are guided from
the presence of evil.
He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.
Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest, lying down in death.
“But come here, you sons of a
sorceress, you offspring of adulterers and prostitutes!
Enflaming
yourselves with idols under every green tree,
slaying the children in
the valleys under
the clifts of
the rocks?
who burn with
lust among
the oaks, under every
luxuriant tree, who slaughter your children in
the valleys, under
the clefts of
the rocks?
Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?
Your portion is among the smooth stones of the valley; indeed, they are your lot. Even to them you have poured out a drink offering and offered a grain offering. Should I relent because of these?
Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.
On a high and lofty hill you have made your bed, and there you went up to offer sacrifices.
Behind
the doors also and
the posts hast thou set up thy
remembrance: for thou hast discovered
thyself to another than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made
thee a covenant with
them; thou lovedst
their bed where thou sawest it.
Behind
the door and
doorpost you have set up your
memorial.
Forsaking Me, you uncovered your bed; you
climbed up and opened it wide. And you have made a
pact with those whose bed you have loved; you have
gazed upon
their nakedness.
You went to
Molech with oil and multiplied your perfumes. You have sent your envoys a great distance; you have descended even to
Sheol itself.
Thou art
wearied in
the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not,
There is no hope: thou hast found
the life of thine hand;
therefore thou
wast not
grieved.
You are
wearied by your many journeys, but you did not say, “
There is no hope!” You found
renewal of your strength;
therefore you did not grow weak.
I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee.
I will
expose your righteousness and your works, and
they will not profit you.
When thou criest, let thy companies deliver
thee; but
the wind shall carry
them all away; vanity shall take
them: but he that putteth his trust in me shall possess
the land, and shall
inherit my holy mountain;
When you cry out, let your companies of idols deliver you! Yet
the wind will carry off all of
them, a breath will take
them away. But he who seeks refuge in Me will
inherit the land and possess My holy mountain.”
And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people.
And it will be said, “Build it up, build it up, prepare
the way, take every
obstacle out of
the way of My people.”
For thus saith
the high and lofty One that inhabiteth
eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in
the high and holy place, with him also that is of a
contrite and humble spirit, to revive
the spirit of
the humble, and to revive
the heart of
the contrite ones.
For thus says
the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits
eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in a high and holy place, and with
the oppressed and humble in spirit, to restore
the spirit of
the lowly and revive
the heart of
the contrite.
For I will not
contend for ever, neither will I be always
wroth: for
the spirit should fail before me, and
the souls which I have made.
For I will not
accuse you
forever, nor will I always be
angry; for
then the spirit of man would grow weak before Me, with
the breath of those I have made.
I was
enraged by his sinful
greed, so I struck him and
hid My face in anger; yet he kept turning back to
the desires of his heart.
I
create the fruit of
the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith
the LORD; and I will
heal him.
bringing praise to
their lips. Peace, peace to those far and near,” says
the LORD, “and I will
heal them.”
But
the wicked are like
the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up
mire and
dirt.
But
the wicked are like
the storm-
tossed sea, for it cannot be still, and its waves
churn up
mire and
muck.
There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
“There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”
“Cry
aloud, do not hold back! Raise your voice like a ram’s horn. Declare to My people
their transgression and to
the house of Jacob
their sins.
Yet
they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and
forsook not
the ordinance of
their God:
they ask of me
the ordinances of justice;
they take delight in approaching to God.
For day after day
they seek Me and delight to know My ways, like a nation that does what is right and does not
forsake the justice of
their God.
They ask Me for righteous judgments;
they delight in
the nearness of God.”
Wherefore have we fasted, say
they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we
afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in
the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.
“Why have we fasted, and You have not seen? Why have we humbled ourselves, and You have not noticed?” “Behold, on
the day of your fast, you do as you please, and you
oppress all your workers.
Behold, ye fast for
strife and
debate, and to
smite with
the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.
Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to
afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a
bulrush, and to spread
sackcloth and ashes under him?
wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to
the LORD?
Is this
the fast I have chosen: a day for a man to deny himself, to bow his head like a reed, and to spread out
sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast and a day acceptable to
the LORD?
Is not this
the fast that I have chosen? to loose
the bands of wickedness, to
undo the heavy burdens, and to let
the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Isn’t this
the fast that I have chosen: to break
the chains of wickedness, to
untie the cords of
the yoke, to set
the oppressed free and
tear off every yoke?
Is it not to deal thy bread to
the hungry, and that thou bring
the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest
the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not
thyself from thine own flesh?
Isn’t it to share your bread with
the hungry, to bring
the poor and homeless into your home, to
clothe the naked when you see him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.
Then your light will break forth like
the dawn, and your
healing will come quickly. Your righteousness will go before you, and
the glory of
the LORD will be your rear guard.
Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
Then you will call, and
the LORD will answer; you will cry out, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you remove
the yoke from your midst,
the pointing of
the finger and
malicious talk,
And if thou draw out thy soul to
the hungry, and satisfy
the afflicted soul;
then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as
the noonday:
and if you give
yourself to
the hungry and satisfy
the afflicted soul,
then your light will go forth in
the darkness, and your night will be like
noonday.
And
the LORD shall guide
thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in
drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
The LORD will always guide you; He will satisfy you in a sun-
scorched land and
strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins; you will restore the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of the Streets of Dwelling.
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
If you turn your foot from breaking the Sabbath, from doing as you please on My holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight, and the LORD’s holy day honorable, if you honor it by not going your own way or seeking your own pleasure or speaking idle words,
Then shalt thou delight
thyself in
the LORD; and I will cause
thee to
ride upon
the high places of
the earth, and feed
thee with
the heritage of Jacob thy father: for
the mouth of
the LORD hath spoken it.
then you will delight
yourself in
the LORD, and I will make you
ride on
the heights of
the land and feed you with
the heritage of your father Jacob.” For
the mouth of
the LORD has spoken.
Behold,
the LORD’S hand is not
shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear.
None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.
No one calls for justice; no one pleads his case
honestly.
They rely on empty pleas;
they tell lies;
they conceive mischief and give birth to iniquity.
Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.
Their cobwebs cannot be made into clothing, and they cannot cover themselves with their works. Their deeds are sinful deeds, and acts of violence are in their hands.
Their feet run to evil, and
they make
haste to shed innocent blood:
their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in
their paths.
Their feet run to evil;
they are swift to shed innocent blood.
Their thoughts are sinful thoughts; ruin and destruction lie in
their wake.
The way of peace
they know not; and
there is no judgment in
their goings:
they have made
them crooked paths:
whosoever goeth
therein shall not know peace.
The way of peace
they have not known, and
there is no justice in
their tracks.
They have turned
them into
crooked paths; no one who treads on
them will know peace.
Therefore is judgment far from us, neither
doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness.
Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We hope for light, but
there is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in
gloom.
Like
the blind, we feel our way along
the wall,
groping like those without eyes. We
stumble at
midday as in
the twilight; among
the vigorous we are like
the dead.
We
roar all like bears, and
mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but
there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.
We all
growl like bears and
moan like doves. We hope for justice, but find none, for salvation, but it is far from us.
For our transgressions are multiplied before
thee, and our sins
testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our
iniquities, we know
them;
For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our sins
testify against us. Our transgressions are indeed with us, and we know our
iniquities:
In
transgressing and lying against
the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from
the heart words of
falsehood.
rebelling and denying the LORD, turning away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering lies from the heart.
And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth
afar off: for truth is fallen in
the street, and
equity cannot enter.
So justice is turned away, and righteousness stands at a distance. For truth has
stumbled in
the public square, and
honesty cannot enter.
Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and
the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that
there was no judgment.
Truth is missing, and
whoever turns from evil becomes prey.
The LORD looked and was displeased that
there was no justice.
And he saw that
there was no man, and wondered that
there was no
intercessor:
therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.
He saw that
there was no man; He was
amazed that
there was no one to
intercede. So His own arm brought salvation, and His own righteousness sustained Him.
For he put on righteousness as a
breastplate, and an
helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on
the garments of
vengeance for clothing, and was
clad with zeal as a
cloke.
According to
their deeds, accordingly he will repay,
fury to his
adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to
the islands he will repay recompence.
So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.
So shall
they fear
the name of
the LORD where
the sun sets, and His glory where it rises. For He will come like a
raging flood, driven by
the breath of
the LORD.
As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
“As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the LORD. “My Spirit will not depart from you, and My words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth or from the mouths of your children and grandchildren, from now on and forevermore,” says the LORD.
Arise,
shine; for thy light is come, and
the glory of
the LORD is risen upon
thee.
Arise,
shine, for your light has come, and
the glory of
the LORD rises upon you.
For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
For behold, darkness covers the earth, and thick darkness is over the peoples; but the LORD will rise upon you, and His glory will appear over you.
And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
Nations will come to your light, and kings to
the brightness of your
dawn.
Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all
they gather
themselves together,
they come to
thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be
nursed at thy side.
Lift up your eyes and look around:
They all gather and come to you; your sons will come from
afar, and your daughters will be carried on
the arm.
Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.
Then you will look and be
radiant, and your heart will
tremble and swell with joy, because
the riches of
the sea will be brought to you, and
the wealth of
the nations will come to you.
The multitude of camels shall cover
thee,
the dromedaries of
Midian and
Ephah; all
they from
Sheba shall come:
they shall bring gold and incense; and
they shall
shew forth
the praises of
the LORD.
All
the flocks of
Kedar shall be gathered together unto
thee,
the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto
thee:
they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will
glorify the house of my glory.
All
the flocks of
Kedar will be gathered to you;
the rams of Nebaioth will serve you and go up on My altar with acceptance; I will
adorn My glorious house.
Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?
Who are these who fly like clouds, like doves to their shelters?
Surely
the isles shall wait for me, and
the ships of
Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far,
their silver and
their gold with
them, unto
the name of
the LORD thy God, and to
the Holy One of Israel, because he hath
glorified thee.
Surely
the islands will wait for Me, with
the ships of
Tarshish in
the lead, to bring your children from
afar, with
their silver and gold, to
the honor of
the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel, for He has
glorified you.
And
the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and
their kings shall minister unto
thee: for in my wrath I
smote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on
thee.
Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. Although I struck you in anger, yet in favor I will show you mercy.
Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.
Your gates will always stand open;
they will never be shut, day or night, so that
the wealth of
the nations may be brought into you, with
their kings being led in
procession.
For
the nation and kingdom that will not serve
thee shall perish;
yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.
For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish; it will be utterly destroyed.
The glory of
Lebanon shall come unto
thee,
the fir tree,
the pine tree, and
the box together, to
beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make
the place of my feet glorious.
The sons also of
them that
afflicted thee shall come bending unto
thee; and all
they that
despised thee shall bow
themselves down at
the soles of thy feet; and
they shall call
thee,
The city of
the LORD,
The Zion of
the Holy One of Israel.
The sons of your oppressors will come and bow down to you; all who
reviled you will fall facedown at your feet and call you
the City of
the LORD,
Zion of
the Holy One of Israel.
