And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great
tempest is upon you.
“
Pick me up,” he answered, “and cast me into the sea, so it may quiet
down for you. For I know that I am to
blame for this violent storm that has come upon you.”
I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.
To the roots of the mountains I descended; the earth beneath me
barred me in
forever! But You raised my life from the pit, O LORD my God!
So
Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a
booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
Then
Jonah left the city and sat
down east of it, where he made himself a shelter and sat in its shade to see what would happen to the city.
And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a
vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of
Jonah, that he
fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
As the sun was rising, God appointed a
scorching east wind, and the sun beat
down on
Jonah’s head so that he grew
faint and wished to die, saying, “It is better for me to die than to live.”
For, behold, the LORD cometh forth out of his place, and will come
down, and
tread upon the high places of the earth.
For behold, the LORD comes forth from His dwelling place; He will come
down and
tread on the high places of the earth.
And the mountains shall be
molten under him, and the valleys shall be
cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured
down a steep place.
The mountains will
melt beneath Him, and the valleys will split apart, like wax before the fire, like water
rushing down a slope.
Therefore I will make Samaria as an
heap of the field, and as plantings of a
vineyard: and I will pour
down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will discover the foundations thereof.
Therefore I will make Samaria a
heap of
rubble in the open field, a planting area for a
vineyard. I will pour her stones into the valley and
expose her foundations.
For the inhabitant of Maroth waited carefully for good: but evil came down from the LORD unto the gate of Jerusalem.
For the dwellers of Maroth pined for good, but
calamity came
down from the LORD, even to the gate of Jerusalem.
Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.
Therefore night will come over you without visions, and darkness without
divination. The sun will set on these prophets, and the
daylight will turn black over them.
And the
remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth
down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
Then the
remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep, which tramples and tears as it passes through, with no one to
rescue them.
And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:
I will remove the cities of your land and
tear down all your strongholds.
Thy
graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.
I will also cut off the carved images and sacred pillars from among you, so that you will no longer bow down to the work of your own hands.
Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and that which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword.
You will eat but not be satisfied, and your hunger will remain with you. What you acquire, you will not preserve; and what you save, I will give to the sword.
Then she that is mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her which said unto me, Where is the LORD thy God? mine eyes shall behold her: now shall she be
trodden down as the
mire of the streets.
Then my enemy will see and will be covered with shame— she who said to me, “Where is the LORD your God?” My eyes will see her; at that time she will be
trampled like mud in the streets.
Who can stand before his
indignation? and who can
abide in the fierceness of his anger? his
fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown
down by him.
Thus saith the LORD: Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut
down, when he shall pass through. Though I have
afflicted thee, I will
afflict thee no more.
This is what the LORD says: “Though they are allied and numerous, yet they will be cut
down and pass away. Though I have
afflicted you, O Judah, I will
afflict you no longer.
There is no
healing of thy
bruise; thy wound is
grievous: all that hear the
bruit of thee shall
clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
There is no
healing for your injury; your wound is severe. All who hear the news of you
applaud your
downfall, for who has not experienced your constant cruelty?
Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening
wolves: and their
horsemen shall spread themselves, and their
horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.
And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
Then the LORD answered me: “Write
down this vision and clearly
inscribe it on tablets, so that a
herald may run with it.
And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that
swear by the LORD, and that
swear by Malcham;
those who bow on the rooftops to worship the host of heaven, those who bow
down and
swear by the LORD but also
swear by Milcom,
Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut
down; all they that bear silver are cut off.
Wail, O dwellers of the Hollow, for all your merchants will be silenced; all who
weigh out silver will be cut off.
And the coast shall be for the
remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed
thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie
down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.
The coast will belong to the
remnant of the house of Judah; there they will find pasture. They will lie
down in the evening among the houses of Ashkelon, for the LORD their God will attend to them and restore their
captives.
And flocks shall lie
down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the
cormorant and the
bittern shall
lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows;
desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the
cedar work.
This is the
rejoicing city that dwelt
carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a
desolation, a place for beasts to lie
down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and
wag his hand.
This carefree city that dwells securely, that thinks to herself: “I am it, and there is none besides me,” what a ruin she has become, a resting place for beasts.
Everyone who passes by her hisses and shakes his
fist.
The
remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a
deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie
down, and none shall make them afraid.
The
remnant of Israel will no longer do wrong or speak lies, nor will a
deceitful tongue be found in their mouths. But they will feed and lie
down, with no one to make them
tremble.”
Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be
glorified, saith the LORD.
Go up into the hills, bring
down lumber, and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be
glorified, says the LORD.
And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the
chariots, and those that
ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come
down, every one by the sword of his brother.
I will overturn royal thrones and destroy the power of the kingdoms of the nations. I will overturn
chariots and their riders; horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother.
Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to
fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to
scatter it.
“What are these coming to do?” I asked. And He replied, “These are the horns that scattered Judah so that no one could raise his head; but the
craftsmen have come to
terrify them and throw
down these horns of the nations that have lifted up their horns against the land of Judah to
scatter it.”
I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the
thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall
consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.
I will send it out, declares the LORD of Hosts, and it will enter the house of the
thief and the house of him who swears falsely by My name. It will remain inside his house and destroy it,
down to its timbers and stones.”
And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the
ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.
“This is Wickedness,” he said. And he
shoved her
down into the
basket,
pushing down the lead cover over its opening.
And they shall be as mighty men, which
tread down their enemies in the
mire of the streets in the battle: and they shall fight, because the LORD is with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.
They will be like mighty men in battle,
trampling the enemy in the
mire of the streets. They will fight because the LORD is with them, and they will put the
horsemen to shame.
And he shall pass through the sea with
affliction, and shall
smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride of Assyria shall be brought
down, and the
sceptre of Egypt shall depart away.
They will pass through the sea of distress and strike the waves of the sea; all the depths of the Nile will dry up. The pride of Assyria will be brought
down, and the
scepter of Egypt will depart.
And I will
strengthen them in the LORD; and they shall walk up and
down in his name, saith the LORD.
I will
strengthen them in the LORD, and in His name they will walk,” declares the LORD.
Whereas
Edom saith, We are
impoverished, but we will return and build the
desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw
down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath
indignation for ever.
Though
Edom may say, “We have been
devastated, but we will rebuild the ruins,” this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “They may build, but I will
demolish. They will be called the Land of Wickedness, and a people with whom the LORD is
indignant forever.
For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.
For My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place, incense and pure offerings will be presented in My name, because My name will be great among the nations,” says the LORD of Hosts.
And ye shall
tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.
Then you will
trample the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day I am preparing,” says the LORD of Hosts.
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell
down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and
frankincense, and
myrrh.

down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and
frankincense and
myrrh.
And now also the
axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is
hewn down, and cast into the fire.
The

down and thrown into the fire.
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast
thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou
dash thy foot against a stone.

Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou
wilt fall
down and worship me.

herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and died in the waters.

And thou,
Capernaum, which art
exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought
down to
hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in
Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

Capernaum, will you be lifted up to heaven? No, you will be brought
down to Hades! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in
Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

heed that ye
despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
See that you do not look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of My Father in heaven.

down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have

down. And you do so in many such matters.”
