forfeit all his property, according to the counsel of the leaders and elders, and would himself be expelled from the assembly of the
exiles.

exiles did as proposed.

launched the investigation,
That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
Hanani, one of my brothers, arrived with men from Judah. So I questioned them about the
remnant of the Jews who had survived the
exile, and also about Jerusalem.
And they said unto me, The
remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great
affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
And they told me, “The
remnant who survived the
exile are there in the province, in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”
But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the
uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
but if you return to Me and keep and practice My commandments, then even if your
exiles have been banished to the
farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for My Name.’
These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom
Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city;
These are the people of the province who came up from the captivity of the
exiles carried away to Babylon by
Nebuchadnezzar its king. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town,
And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of
Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great
gladness.
The whole assembly who had returned from
exile made booths and lived in them. From the days of Joshua son of
Nun until that day, the Israelites had not celebrated like this. And there was great
rejoicing.
Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom
Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.
He had been carried into
exile from Jerusalem by
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon among those taken
captive with Jeconiah king of Judah.
The LORD
doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the exiles of Israel.
Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are
famished, and their multitude dried up with
thirst.
And he shall set up an
ensign for the nations, and shall
assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the
dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
He will raise a
banner for the nations and gather the
exiles of Israel; He will collect the scattered of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians
captives, young and old, naked and
barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.
so the king of Assyria will lead away the
captives of Egypt and the
exiles of
Cush, young and old alike, naked and
barefoot, with bared buttocks—to Egypt’s shame.
There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is
darkened, the
mirth of the land is gone.
In the streets they cry out for wine. All joy turns to
gloom;
rejoicing is
exiled from the land.
In measure, when it shooteth forth, thou
wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind.
By warfare and
exile You
contended with her and removed her with a fierce wind, as on the day the east wind blows.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great
trumpet shall be
blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.
And in that day a great ram’s horn will sound, and those who were perishing in Assyria will come forth with those who were exiles in Egypt. And they will worship the LORD on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.
I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my
captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.
I will raise up Cyrus in righteousness, and I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild My city and set My exiles free, but not for payment or reward, says the LORD of Hosts.”
Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath
begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am
desolate, a
captive, and removing to and
fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?
Then you will say in your heart, ‘Who has
begotten these for me? I was
bereaved and barren; I was
exiled and rejected. So who has reared them? Look, I was left all alone, so where did they come from?’”
The
captive exile hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail.
The
captive will soon be freed; he will not die in the
dungeon, and his bread will not be lacking.
and through the days of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah, until the fifth month of the
eleventh year of
Zedekiah son of
Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into
exile.
The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away
captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away
captive.
The cities of the Negev have been shut
tight, and no one can open them. All Judah has been carried into
exile, wholly taken
captive.
Weep ye not for the dead, neither
bemoan him: but
weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.
Do not
weep for the dead king; do not
mourn his loss.
Weep bitterly for the one who is
exiled, for he will never return to see his native land.
But he shall die in the place
whither they have led him
captive, and shall see this land no more.
but he will die in the place to which he was exiled; he will never see this land again.”
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away
captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like these good figs, so I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I have sent away from this place to the land of the Chaldeans.
Which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took not, when he carried away
captive Jeconiah the son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem;
which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take when he carried Jeconiah son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah into
exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, along with all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem.
And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah, with all the
captives of Judah, that went into Babylon, saith the LORD: for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.
And I will restore to this place Jeconiah son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah, along with all the
exiles from Judah who went to Babylon,’ declares the LORD, ‘for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’”
Even the prophet Jeremiah said,
Amen: the LORD do so: the LORD perform thy words which thou hast
prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the LORD’S house, and all that is carried away
captive, from Babylon into this place.
“
Amen!” Jeremiah said. “May the LORD do so! May the LORD
fulfill the words you have
prophesied, and may He restore the articles of His house and all the
exiles back to this place from Babylon.
Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away
captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom
Nebuchadnezzar had carried away
captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;
This is the text of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the
surviving elders among the
exiles and to the priests, the prophets, and all the others
Nebuchadnezzar had carried into
exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.
(After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)
(This was after King Jeconiah, the queen mother, the court officials, the officials of Judah and Jerusalem, the
craftsmen, and the metalsmiths had been
exiled from Jerusalem.)
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away
captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says to all the exiles who were carried away from Jerusalem to Babylon:
And seek the peace of the city
whither I have caused you to be carried away
captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.
Seek the prosperity of the city to which I have sent you as
exiles. Pray to the LORD on its behalf, for if it prospers, you too will
prosper.”
And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places
whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away
captive.
I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore you from captivity and gather you from all the nations and places to which I have banished you, declares the LORD. I will restore you to the place from which I sent you into exile.”
Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;
this is what the LORD says about the king who sits on David’s throne and all the people who remain in this city, your brothers who did not go with you into exile—
Because they have not
hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.
I will do this because they have not
listened to My words, declares the LORD, which I sent to them again and again through My servants the prophets. And neither have you
exiles listened, declares the LORD.”
Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:
So hear the word of the LORD, all you exiles I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.
And of them shall be taken up a
curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like
Zedekiah and like
Ahab, whom the king of Babylon
roasted in the fire;
Because of them, all the
exiles of Judah who are in Babylon will use this
curse: ‘May the LORD make you like
Zedekiah and
Ahab, whom the king of Babylon
roasted in the fire!’
For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
For he has sent to us in Babylon, claiming: Since the
exile will be
lengthy, build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat their produce.’”
Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath
prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:
“Send a message telling all the
exiles what the LORD says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite. Because Shemaiah has
prophesied to you—though I did not send him—and has made you trust in a lie,
Therefore all they that
devour thee shall be
devoured; and all thine
adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that
spoil thee shall be a
spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had let him go from
Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away
captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away
captive unto Babylon.
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD after Nebuzaradan captain of the guard had released him at
Ramah, having found him bound in chains among all the
captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being
exiled to Babylon.
Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away
captive to Babylon;
When all the commanders and men of the armies in the field heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam over the land and that he had put him in charge of the men, women, and children who were the poorest of the land and had not been
exiled to Babylon,
But
Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, for to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death, and carry us away
captives into Babylon.
Rather,
Baruch son of Neriah is
inciting you against us to deliver us into the hands of the Chaldeans, so that they may put us to death or
exile us to Babylon!”
O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish
thyself to go into captivity: for
Noph shall be waste and
desolate without an inhabitant.
Pack your bags for
exile, O daughter dwelling in Egypt! For
Memphis will be laid waste, destroyed and uninhabited.
For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and
Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together.
Because you trust in your works and treasures, you too will be captured, and
Chemosh will go into
exile with his priests and officials.
Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his
lees, and hath not been
emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his
scent is not changed.
Moab has been at ease from youth, settled like wine on its
dregs; he has not been poured from vessel to vessel or gone into
exile. So his
flavor has remained the same, and his
aroma is unchanged.
Woe to you, O Moab! The people of
Chemosh have perished; for your sons have been taken into
exile and your daughters have gone into captivity.
Howl, O
Heshbon, for
Ai is
spoiled: cry, ye daughters of Rabbah,
gird you with
sackcloth;
lament, and run to and
fro by the hedges; for their king shall go into captivity, and his priests and his princes together.
Wail, O
Heshbon, for
Ai has been destroyed; cry out, O daughters of Rabbah! Put on
sackcloth and
mourn; run back and forth within your walls, for Milcom will go into
exile together with his priests and officials.
And upon
Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will
scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation
whither the outcasts of
Elam shall not come.
I will bring the four winds against
Elam from the four corners of the heavens, and I will
scatter them to all these winds. There will not be a nation to which
Elam’s
exiles will not go.
Then Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard carried away
captive certain of the poor of the people, and the residue of the people that remained in the city, and those that fell away, that fell to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude.
Then Nebuzaradan captain of the guard carried into
exile some of the poorest people and those who remained in the city, along with the deserters who had defected to the king of Babylon and the rest of the
craftsmen.
And the king of Babylon
smote them, and put them to death in Riblah in the land of
Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away
captive out of his own land.
There at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death. So Judah was taken into
exile, away from its own land.
And it came to pass in the seven and
thirtieth year of the captivity of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the
twelfth month, in the five and
twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison,
On the twenty-fifth day of the
twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the
exile of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the first year of the reign of Evil-merodach king of Babylon, he
pardoned Jehoiachin king of Judah and released him from prison.
Judah is gone into captivity because of
affliction, and because of great
servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
Judah has gone into
exile under
affliction and harsh slavery; she dwells among the nations but finds no place to rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her in the midst of her distress.
Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.
Her gates have sunk into the ground; He has destroyed and
shattered their bars. Her king and her princes are
exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and even her prophets find no vision from the LORD.
The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of
Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of
Edom; he will discover thy sins.
O Daughter of
Zion, your punishment is complete; He will not
prolong your
exile. But He will
punish your iniquity, O Daughter of
Edom; He will
expose your sins.
Now it came to pass in the
thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the
captives by the river of
Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.
In the
thirtieth year, on the fifth day of the fourth month, while I was among the
exiles by the River Kebar, the heavens opened and I saw visions of God.
In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king
Jehoiachin’s captivity,
On the fifth day of the month—it was the fifth year of the
exile of King
Jehoiachin—
And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will
forbear.
Go to your people, the
exiles; speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’ whether they
listen or refuse to
listen.”
Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel-
abib, that dwelt by the river of
Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there
astonished among them seven days.
I came to the
exiles at Tel-
abib who dwelt by the River Kebar. And for seven days I sat where they sat and remained there among them,
overwhelmed.
Son of man, thy brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly, are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the LORD: unto us is this land given in possession.
“Son of man, your brothers—your relatives, your fellow exiles, and the whole house of Israel—are those of whom the people of Jerusalem have said, ‘They are far away from the LORD; this land has been given to us as a possession.’
Afterwards the spirit took me up, and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God into
Chaldea, to them of the captivity. So the vision that I had seen went up from me.
And the Spirit lifted me up and carried me back to
Chaldea, to the
exiles in the vision given by the Spirit of God. After the vision had gone up from me,
Then I spake unto them of the captivity all the things that the LORD had shewed me.
I told the exiles everything the LORD had shown me.
Therefore, thou son of man, prepare thee stuff for removing, and remove by day in their sight; and thou shalt remove from thy place to another place in their sight: it may be they will consider, though they be a
rebellious house.
Therefore, son of man,
pack your bags for
exile. In broad
daylight, set out from your place and go to another as they watch. Perhaps they will understand, though they are a
rebellious house.
Then shalt thou bring forth thy stuff by day in their sight, as stuff for removing: and thou shalt go forth at even in their sight, as they that go forth into captivity.
Bring out your
baggage for
exile by day, as they watch. Then in the evening, as they watch, go out like those who go into
exile.
And I did so as I was commanded: I brought forth my stuff by day, as stuff for captivity, and in the even I
digged through the wall with mine hand; I brought it forth in the
twilight, and I bare it upon my shoulder in their sight.
So I did as I was commanded. I brought out my bags for
exile by day, and in the evening I
dug through the wall by hand. I took my belongings out at
dusk, carrying them on my shoulder as they watched.
Say, I am your sign: like as I have done, so shall it be done unto them: they shall remove and go into captivity.
You are to say, ‘I am a sign to you.’ Just as it happened here, so will it be done to them; they will go into
exile as
captives.
And say unto the
Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou saidst,
Aha, against my sanctuary, when it was
profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was
desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into captivity;
Tell the
Ammonites to hear the word of the Lord GOD, for this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you
exclaimed, “
Aha!” when My sanctuary was
profaned, when the land of Israel was laid waste, and when the house of Judah went into

And it came to pass in the
twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is
smitten.
In the
twelfth year of our
exile, on the fifth day of the tenth month, a
fugitive from Jerusalem came to me and reported, “The city has been taken!”
And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they
trespassed against me, therefore
hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.
And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into
exile for their iniquity, because they were unfaithful to Me. So I
hid My face from them and delivered them into the hands of their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword.
Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.
Then they will know that I am the LORD their God, when I regather them to their own land, not leaving any of them behind after their exile among the nations.
In the five and

smitten, in the
selfsame day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me thither.
In the twenty-fifth year of our
exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month—in the
fourteenth year after Jerusalem had been struck down—on that very day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and He took me there.
Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in
haste and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the
captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.
Arioch
hastily brought Daniel before the king and said to him, “I have found a man among the

Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of
Jewry?
So Daniel was brought before the king, who asked him, “Are you Daniel, one of the exiles my father the king brought from Judah?
