Be thou
ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I
travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I
nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins.
Be
ashamed, O
Sidon, the
stronghold of the sea, for the sea has spoken: “I have
not been in labor or given birth. I have
not raised young men or brought up young women.”
Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was
not,
til the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.
Look at the land of the Chaldeans— a people now of no account. The Assyrians destined it for the desert creatures; they set up their siege towers and
stripped its palaces. They brought it to ruin.
Yet her profits and wages will be set apart to the LORD; they will not be stored or saved, for her profit will go to those who live before the LORD, for abundant food and fine clothing.
They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.
They no longer sing and drink wine; strong drink is bitter to those who
consume it.
The earth shall
reel to and
fro like a
drunkard, and shall be removed like a
cottage; and the
transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and
not rise again.
The earth
staggers like a
drunkard and sways like a
shack. Earth’s rebellion weighs it down, and it falls, never to rise again.
Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD.
Though grace is shown to the wicked man, he does not learn righteousness. In the land of righteousness he acts unjustly and fails to see the majesty of the LORD.
LORD, when thy hand is lifted up, they will
not see: but they shall see, and be
ashamed for their
envy at the people;
yea, the fire of thine enemies shall
devour them.
O LORD, Your hand is upraised, but they do
not see it. They will see Your zeal for Your people and be put to shame. The fire set for Your enemies will
consume them!
They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.
The dead will
not live; the departed spirits will
not rise. Therefore You have punished and destroyed them; You have
wiped out all memory of them.
We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have
not wrought any
deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.
We were with child; we
writhed in pain; but we gave birth to wind. We have given no salvation to the earth, nor brought any life into the world.
Fury is
not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.
I am
not angry. If only thorns and briers
confronted Me, I would march and
trample them, I would burn them to the ground.
By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be
purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in
sunder, the groves and images shall
not stand up.
Therefore Jacob’s guilt will be
atoned for, and the full fruit of the removal of his sin will be this: When he makes all the altar stones like
crushed bits of chalk, no Asherah poles or incense altars will remain standing.
When the boughs thereof are
withered, they shall be broken off: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will
not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will
shew them no favour.
When its limbs are dry, they are broken off. Women come and use them for
kindling; for this is a people without understanding. Therefore their Maker has no
compassion on them, and their
Creator shows them no favor.
For all tables are full of
vomit and
filthiness, so that there is no place clean.
For all their tables are covered with
vomit; there is
not a place without
filth.
To whom he said, This is the rest
wherewith ye may cause the
weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would
not hear.
to whom He has said: “This is the place of rest, let the
weary rest; this is the place of
repose.” But they would
not listen.
Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with
hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing
scourge shall pass through, it shall
not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under
falsehood have we
hid ourselves:
For you said, “We have made a covenant with death; we have fashioned an agreement with
Sheol. When the
overwhelming scourge passes through it will
not touch us, because we have made lies our refuge and
falsehood our hiding place.”
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in
Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall
not make
haste.
So this is what the Lord GOD says: “See, I lay a stone in
Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will never be
shaken.
And your covenant with death shall be
disannulled, and your agreement with
hell shall
not stand; when the overflowing
scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be
trodden down by it.
Your covenant with death will be dissolved, and your agreement with
Sheol will
not stand. When the
overwhelming scourge passes through, you will be
trampled by it.
Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.
So now, do
not mock, or your
shackles will become heavier. Indeed, I have heard from the Lord GOD of Hosts a decree of destruction against the whole land.
When he hath made plain the face thereof,
doth he
not cast abroad the
fitches, and
scatter the
cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and
rie in their place?
When he has leveled its surface, does he
not sow caraway and
scatter cumin? He plants wheat in rows and barley in plots, and
rye within its border.
Grain for bread must be ground, but it is
not endlessly
threshed. Though the wheels of the
cart roll over it, the horses do
not crush it.
Stay
yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are
drunken, but
not with wine; they
stagger, but
not with strong drink.
And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
Or if the
scroll is handed to one unable to read, he will say, “I cannot read.”
Surely your turning of things
upside down shall be esteemed as the
potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me
not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?
You have turned things
upside down, as if the
potter were regarded as clay. Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, “He did
not make me”? Can the pottery say of the
potter, “He has no understanding”?
Is it
not yet a very little while, and
Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest?
Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall
not now be
ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.
Therefore the LORD who redeemed Abraham says of the house of Jacob: “No longer will Jacob be
ashamed and no more will his face grow pale.
Woe to the
rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but
not of me; and that cover with a covering, but
not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:
“
Woe to the
rebellious children,” declares the LORD, “to those who carry out a plan that is
not Mine, who form an alliance, but against My will,
heaping up sin upon sin.
That walk to go down into Egypt, and have
not asked at my mouth; to
strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt!
They set out to go down to Egypt without asking My advice, to seek shelter under Pharaoh’s protection and take refuge in Egypt’s shade.
They were all
ashamed of a people that could
not profit them, nor be an help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.
everyone will be put to shame because of a people useless to them. They cannot be of help; they are good for
nothing but shame and reproach.”
The burden of the beasts of the south: into the land of trouble and
anguish, from whence come the young and old lion, the
viper and
fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young
asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to a people that shall
not profit them.
This is the burden against the beasts of the Negev: Through a land of
hardship and distress, of
lioness and lion, of
viper and flying serpent, they carry their wealth on the backs of
donkeys and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people of no profit to them.
Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever:
Go now, write it on a
tablet in their presence and
inscribe it on a
scroll; it will be for the days to come, a witness
forever and ever.
That this is a
rebellious people, lying children, children that will
not hear the law of the LORD:
These are
rebellious people,
deceitful children, children unwilling to obey the LORD’s instruction.
Which say to the seers, See
not; and to the prophets,
Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things,
prophesy deceits:
They say to the seers, “Stop seeing visions!” and to the prophets, “Do
not prophesy to us the truth! Speak to us pleasant words;
prophesy illusions.
And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall
not spare: so that there shall
not be found in the
bursting of it a
sherd to take fire from the
hearth, or to take water
withal out of the pit.
For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.
For the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, has said: “By
repentance and rest you would be saved; your strength would lie in quiet confidence— but you were
not willing.”
And though the Lord give you the bread of
adversity, and the water of
affliction, yet shall
not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:
The Lord will give you the bread of
adversity and the water of
affliction, but your Teacher will no longer hide Himself—with your own eyes you will see Him.
Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in
chariots, because they are many; and in
horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look
not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who
rely on horses, who trust in their abundance of
chariots and in their multitude of
horsemen. They do
not look to the Holy One of Israel; they do
not seek the LORD.
Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.
Yet He too is wise and brings
disaster; He does
not call back His words. He will rise up against the house of the wicked and against the allies of evildoers.
Now the Egyptians are men, and
not God; and their horses flesh, and
not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is
holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.
But the Egyptians are men,
not God; their horses are flesh,
not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, the helper will
stumble, and the one he helps will fall; both will perish together.
For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion
roaring on his prey, when a multitude of
shepherds is called forth against him, he will
not be afraid of their voice, nor
abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount
Zion, and for the hill thereof.
For this is what the LORD has said to me: “Like a lion
roaring or a young lion over its prey— and though a band of
shepherds is called out against it, it is
not terrified by their
shouting or subdued by their
clamor— so the LORD of Hosts will come down to do battle on Mount
Zion and its heights.
Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword,
not of a mighty man; and the sword,
not of a mean man, shall
devour him: but he shall
flee from the sword, and his young men shall be
discomfited.
“Then Assyria will fall, but
not by the sword of man; a sword will
devour them, but
not one made by mortals. They will
flee before the sword, and their young men will be put to forced labor.
And the eyes of them that see shall
not be
dim, and the ears of them that hear shall
hearken.
Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will
listen.
Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the
vintage shall fail, the gathering shall
not come.
In a little more than a year you will
tremble, O secure ones. For the
grape harvest will fail and the fruit harvest will
not arrive.
Woe to you, O destroyer never destroyed, O
traitor never
betrayed! When you have finished destroying, you will be destroyed. When you have finished
betraying, you will be
betrayed.
Thou shalt
not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a
stammering tongue, that thou canst
not understand.
You will no longer see the
insolent, a people whose speech is unintelligible, who
stammer in a language you cannot understand.
Look upon
Zion, the city of our
solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet
habitation, a tabernacle that shall
not be taken down;
not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.
Look upon
Zion, the city of our appointed feasts. Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful pasture, a tent that does
not wander; its tent pegs will
not be pulled up, nor will any of its cords be broken.
Thy tacklings are loosed; they could
not well
strengthen their mast, they could
not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great
spoil divided; the
lame take the prey.
Your ropes are
slack; they cannot secure the mast or spread the sail. Then an abundance of spoils will be divided, and even the
lame will carry off
plunder.
And the inhabitant shall
not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be
forgiven their iniquity.
And no resident of
Zion will say, “I am sick.” The people who dwell there will be
forgiven of iniquity.
It shall
not be
quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.
It will
not be
quenched—day or night. Its smoke will
ascend forever. From generation to generation it will lie
desolate; no one will ever again pass through it.
They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.
No nobles will be left to
proclaim a king, and all her princes will come to
nothing.
Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her
mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.
Search and read the
scroll of the LORD:
Not one of these will go missing,
not one will lack her
mate, because He has ordered it by His mouth, and He will gather them by His Spirit.
Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear
not: behold, your God will come with
vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
Say to those with anxious hearts: “Be strong, do
not fear! Behold, your God will come with
vengeance. With divine
retribution He will come to save you.”
And an
highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of
holiness; the unclean shall
not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the
wayfaring men, though fools, shall
not err therein.
And there will be a
highway called the Way of
Holiness. The unclean will
not travel it— only those who walk in the Way— and fools will
not stray onto it.
No lion shall be there, nor any
ravenous beast shall go up
thereon, it shall
not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there:
No lion will be there, and no
vicious beast will go up on it. Such will
not be found there, but the redeemed will walk upon it.
But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it
not he, whose high places and whose altars
Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He
not the One whose high places and altars
Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before this altar’?
Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto
Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the
Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak
not to us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to the
Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in
Aramaic, since we understand it. Do
not speak to us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people on the wall.”
But
Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he
not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own
piss with you?
But the
Rabshakeh replied, “Has my master sent me to speak these words only to you and your master, and
not to the men sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to eat their own dung and drink their own
urine?”
Thus saith the king, Let
not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall
not be able to deliver you.
This is what the king says: Do
not let
Hezekiah deceive you, for he cannot deliver you.
Neither let
Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall
not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Do
not let
Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the LORD when he says, ‘The LORD will surely deliver us; this city will
not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’
Hearken not to
Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own
cistern;
Do
not listen to
Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me. Then every one of you will eat from his own vine and his own fig tree, and drink water from his own
cistern,
Beware lest
Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Do
not let
Hezekiah mislead you when he says, ‘The LORD will deliver us.’ Has the god of any nation ever delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?
But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
But the people remained silent and did
not answer a word, for
Hezekiah had commanded, “Do
not answer him.”
And they said unto him, Thus saith
Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of
rebuke, and of
blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is
not strength to bring forth.
to tell him, “This is what
Hezekiah says:
Today is a day of distress,
rebuke, and disgrace; for children have come to the point of birth, but there is no strength to deliver them.
And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be
not afraid of the words that thou hast heard,
wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed me.
who replied, “Tell your master that this is what the LORD says: ‘Do
not be afraid of the words you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed Me.
Thus shall ye speak to
Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let
not thy God, in whom thou trustest,
deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall
not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
“Give this message to
Hezekiah king of Judah: ‘Do
not let your God, in whom you trust,
deceive you by saying that Jerusalem will
not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
They have cast their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods, but only wood and stone—the work of human hands.
Hast thou
not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into
ruinous heaps.
Have you
not heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of old I
planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you should
crush fortified cities into piles of
rubble.
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall
not come into this city, nor shoot an
arrow there nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.
So this is what the LORD says about the king of Assyria: ‘He will
not enter this city or shoot an
arrow into it. He will
not come before it with a shield or build up a siege
ramp against it.
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
He will go back the way he came, and he will not enter this city,’ declares the LORD.
In those days was
Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and
not live.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you will
not recover.’”
I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
I said, “I will never again see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living; I will no longer look on mankind with those who dwell in this world.
For the grave cannot praise thee, death can
not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.
For
Sheol cannot
thank You; Death cannot praise You. Those who descend to the Pit cannot hope for Your faithfulness.
And
Hezekiah was
glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious
ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was
nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that
Hezekiah shewed them
not.
And
Hezekiah welcomed the envoys
gladly and showed them what was in his
treasure house—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, as well as his entire
armory—all that was found in his storehouses. There was
nothing in his palace or in all his dominion that
Hezekiah did
not show them.
Then said he, What have they seen in thine house? And
Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is
nothing among my treasures that I have
not shewed them.
“What have they seen in your palace?” Isaiah asked. “They have seen everything in my palace,” answered
Hezekiah. “There is
nothing among my treasures that I did
not show them.”
Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
O
Zion, that bringest good
tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good
tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be
not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
Go up on a high mountain, O
Zion,
herald of good news. Raise your voice loudly, O Jerusalem,
herald of good news. Lift it up, do
not be afraid! Say to the cities of Judah, “Here is your God!”
And
Lebanon is
not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
Lebanon is
not sufficient for fuel, nor its animals enough for a burnt offering.
All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
All the nations are as
nothing before Him; He regards them as
nothingness and
emptiness.
Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been declared to you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the foundation of the earth?
That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
He brings the princes to nothing and makes the rulers of the earth meaningless.
Yea, they shall
not be planted;
yea, they shall
not be sown:
yea, their stock shall
not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the
whirlwind shall take them away as
stubble.
No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner have their stems taken root in the ground, than He blows on them and they wither, and a
whirlwind sweeps them away like
stubble.
Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
Lift up your eyes on high: Who created all these? He leads forth the
starry host by number; He calls each one by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.
Hast thou
not known? hast thou
not heard, that the
everlasting God, the LORD, the
Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth
not, neither is
weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
Do you
not know? Have you
not heard? The LORD is the
everlasting God, the
Creator of the ends of the earth. He will
not grow
tired or
weary; His understanding is beyond searching out.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and
not be
weary; and they shall walk, and
not faint.
But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and
not grow
weary, they will walk and
not faint.
He pursued them, and passed safely; even by the way that he had not gone with his feet.
He pursues them, going on safely, hardly touching the path with his feet.
So the
carpenter encouraged the
goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that
smote the
anvil, saying, It is ready for the sodering: and he fastened it with
nails, that it should
not be moved.
Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.
I brought you from the ends of the earth and called you from its
farthest corners. I said, ‘You are My servant.’ I have chosen and
not rejected you.
Fear thou
not; for I am with thee: be
not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will
strengthen thee;
yea, I will help thee;
yea, I will
uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Do
not fear, for I am with you; do
not be afraid, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will
uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be
ashamed and confounded: they shall be as
nothing; and they that
strive with thee shall perish.
Behold, all who
rage against you will be
ashamed and disgraced; those who
contend with you will be reduced to
nothing and will perish.
Thou shalt seek them, and shalt
not find them, even them that
contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as
nothing, and as a thing of
nought.
You will seek them but will
not find them. Those who
wage war against you will come to
nothing.
For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
For I am the LORD your God, who takes hold of your right hand and tells you: Do not fear, I will help you.
Fear
not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy
redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
Do
not fear, O worm of Jacob, O few men of Israel. I will help you,” declares the LORD. “Your
Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.
When the poor and
needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for
thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will
not forsake them.
The poor and
needy seek water, but there is none; their tongues are
parched with
thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will
not forsake them.
Behold, ye are of
nothing, and your work of
nought: an
abomination is he that chooseth you.
Behold, you are
nothing and your work is of no value.
Anyone who chooses you is
detestable.
For I
beheld, and there was no man; even among them, and there was no counsellor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.
When I look, there is no one; there is no
counselor among them; when I ask them, they have
nothing to say.
Behold, they are all vanity; their works are
nothing: their
molten images are wind and confusion.
See, they are all a
delusion; their works amount to
nothing; their images are as empty as the wind.
He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
He will not cry out or raise His voice, nor make His voice heard in the streets.
A
bruised reed shall he
not break, and the smoking flax shall he
not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
He will not grow weak or discouraged before He has established justice on the earth. In His law the islands will put their hope.”
