Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at
Shushan to destroy them, to
shew it unto
Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make
supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.
Mordecai also gave Hathach a copy of the written decree issued in
Susa for the destruction of the Jews, to show and explain to
Esther,
urging her to approach the king,
implore his favor, and
plead before him for her people.
And
Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and
Haman come this day unto the
banquet that I have prepared for him.
“If it
pleases the king,”
Esther replied, “may the king and
Haman come
today to the
banquet I have prepared for the king.”
If I have found favour in the sight of the king, and if it
please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and
Haman come to the
banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to
morrow as the king hath said.
If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it
pleases the king to grant my petition and
fulfill my request, may the king and
Haman come
tomorrow to the
banquet I will prepare for them. Then I will answer the king’s question.”
His wife Zeresh and all his friends told him, “Have them build a
gallows fifty cubits high, and ask the king in the morning to have
Mordecai hanged on it. Then go to the
banquet with the king and enjoy
yourself.” The advice
pleased Haman, and he had the
gallows constructed.
Then
Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour in thy sight, O king, and if it
please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request:
Queen
Esther replied, “If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it
pleases the king, grant me my life as my petition, and the lives of my people as my request.
And said, If it
please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be
pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by
Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in all the king’s provinces:
“If it
pleases the king,” she said, “and if I have found favor in his sight, and the matter seems proper to the king, and I am
pleasing in his sight, may an order be written to
revoke the letters that the scheming
Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, wrote to destroy the Jews in all the king’s provinces.
Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s ring: for the writing which is written in the king’s name, and sealed with the king’s ring, may no man reverse.
Now you may write in the king’s name as you
please regarding the Jews, and seal it with the royal
signet ring. For a decree that is written in the name of the king and sealed with the royal
signet ring cannot be
revoked.”
Thus the Jews
smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that
hated them.
The Jews put all their enemies to the sword, killing and destroying them, and they did as they
pleased to those who
hated them.
Then said
Esther, If it
please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in
Shushan to do to
morrow also according unto this day’s decree, and let
Haman’s ten sons be
hanged upon the
gallows.
Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
Consider now, I
plead: Who, being innocent, has ever perished? Or where have the upright been destroyed?
Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints
wilt thou turn?
“Call out if you please, but who will answer? To which of the holy ones will you turn?
Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!
that God would be willing to
crush me, to
unleash His hand and cut me off!
Now therefore be content, look upon me; for it is evident unto you if I lie.
But now, please look at me. Would I lie to your face?
For
enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare
thyself to the search of their fathers:
Please inquire of past generations and consider the discoveries of their fathers.
If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to
plead?
If it is a matter of strength, He is indeed mighty! If it is a matter of justice, who can
summon Him?
Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest
oppress, that thou shouldest
despise the work of thine hands, and
shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
Does it
please You to
oppress me, to
reject the work of Your hands and favor the schemes of the wicked?
Remember, I
beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and
wilt thou bring me into dust again?
Please remember that You
molded me like clay. Would You now return me to dust?
Hear now my argument, and
listen to the
plea of my lips.
Who is he that will
plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.
Oh that one might
plead for a man with God, as a man
pleadeth for his neighbour!
Oh, that a man might
plead with God as he
pleads with his
neighbor!
If indeed you would
exalt yourselves above me and use my disgrace against me,
His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
His sons will seek the favor of the poor, for his own hands must return his wealth.
For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?
For what does he care about his household after him, when the number of his months has run out?
And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.
Yet another man dies in the bitterness of his soul, having never tasted prosperity.
Is it any
pleasure to the
Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Does it delight the
Almighty that you are righteous? Does He profit if your ways are
blameless?
I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
I would
plead my case before Him and fill my mouth with arguments.
Will he
plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.
Would He
contend with me in His great power? No, He would certainly take note of me.
By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the
oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
Men cry out under great oppression; they
plead for relief from the arm of the mighty.
Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the
Almighty regard it.
Surely God does not
listen to empty
pleas, and the
Almighty does not take note of it.
If they obey and serve him, they shall
spend their days in prosperity, and their years in
pleasures.
If they obey and serve Him, then they end their days in prosperity and their years in happiness.
My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
In the morning, O LORD, You hear my voice; at
daybreak I lay my
plea before You and wait in expectation.
For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.
For You are not a God who delights in wickedness; no evil can dwell with You.
The lines are fallen unto me in
pleasant places;
yea, I have a goodly
heritage.
The lines of my boundary have fallen in pleasant places; surely my inheritance is delightful.
Thou
wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is
fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are
pleasures for
evermore.
You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.
Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of
feigned lips.
Hear, O LORD, my righteous
plea;
listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer— it comes from lips free of
deceit.
Let the words of my mouth, and the
meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my
redeemer.
May the words of my mouth and the
meditation of my heart be
pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my
Redeemer.
For I said in my
haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I
cried unto thee.
In my
alarm I said, “I am cut off from Your sight!” But You heard my
plea for mercy when I called to You for help.
Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that
strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.
Contend with my opponents, O LORD; fight against those who fight against me.
Let them
shout for joy, and be
glad, that favour my righteous cause:
yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be
magnified, which hath
pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
They feast on the abundance of Your house, and You give them drink from Your river of delights.
Be
pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make
haste to help me.
Be
pleased, O LORD, to deliver me;
hurry, O LORD, to help me.
Judge me, O God, and
plead my cause against an ungodly nation: O deliver me from the
deceitful and unjust man.
For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
For You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; You take no pleasure in burnt offerings.
Do good in thy good
pleasure unto
Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
In Your good
pleasure, cause
Zion to
prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem.
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
Then You will delight in righteous sacrifices, in whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on Your altar.
This also shall
please the LORD better than an ox or
bullock that hath horns and
hoofs.
And this will
please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with horns and
hooves.
Arise, O God,
plead thine own cause: remember how the
foolish man reproacheth thee daily.
Rise up, O God; defend Your cause! Remember how the
fool mocks You all day long.
Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.
Hear my prayer, O LORD, and attend to my plea for mercy.
For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof.
For Your servants delight in her stones and take
pity on her dust.
Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his
pleasure.
Bless the LORD, all His hosts, you servants who do His will.
To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.
to
instruct his princes as he
pleased and teach his elders wisdom.
Yea, they
despised the
pleasant land, they believed not his word:
They
despised the
pleasant land; they did not believe His promise.
The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.
Great are the works of the LORD; they are
pondered by all who delight in them.
But our God is in the heavens: he hath done
whatsoever he hath
pleased.
Our God is in heaven; He does as He pleases.
Plead my cause, and deliver me:
quicken me according to thy word.
Defend my cause and
redeem me; revive me according to Your word.
Let my
supplication come before thee: deliver me according to thy word.
May my
plea come before You;
rescue me according to Your promise.
Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be
attentive to the voice of my supplications.
O Lord, hear my voice; let Your ears be
attentive to my
plea for mercy.
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!
Praise the LORD; for the LORD is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant.
Hallelujah, for the LORD is good; sing praises to His name, for it is lovely.
Whatsoever the LORD
pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.
The LORD does all that pleases Him in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and in all their depths.
When their judges are overthrown in
stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.
When their rulers are thrown down from the cliffs, the people will
listen to my words, for they are
pleasant.
Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.
O LORD, hear my prayer. In Your faithfulness, give ear to my plea; in Your righteousness, answer me.
Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.
Hallelujah! How good it is to sing praises to our God, how
pleasant and lovely to praise Him!
He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legpower of the man.
The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
The LORD is pleased with those who fear Him, who hope in His loving devotion.
For the LORD taketh
pleasure in his people: he will
beautify the
meek with salvation.
For the LORD takes
pleasure in His people; He adorns the
afflicted with salvation.
When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will delight your soul.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
All her ways are pleasant, and all her paths are peaceful.
Let her be as the loving hind and
pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou
ravished always with her love.
Do this now, my son, deliver
thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble
thyself, and make sure thy friend.
Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is
pleasant.
“
Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is
tasty!”
The thoughts of the wicked are an
abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are
pleasant words.
The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but the words of the pure are pleasant to Him.
When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even the man’s enemies live at peace with him.
The wise in heart shall be called
prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
The wise in heart are called
discerning, and
pleasant speech promotes instruction.
Pleasant words are as an
honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
The poor man pleads for mercy, but the rich man answers harshly.
All the brethren of the poor do
hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
All the brothers of a poor man
hate him— how much more do his friends avoid him! He may pursue them with
pleading, but they are nowhere to be found.
The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it
whithersoever he will.
The king’s heart is a
waterway in the hand of the LORD; He directs it where He
pleases.
He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
He who loves pleasure will become poor; the one who loves wine and oil will never be rich.
For it is a
pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall
withal be fitted in thy lips.
for it is pleasing when you keep them within you and they are constantly on your lips.
for the LORD will take up their case and will
plunder those who
rob them.
The
morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou
vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
You will
vomit up what little you have eaten and waste your
pleasant words.
For their
redeemer is mighty; he shall
plead their cause with thee.
for their
Redeemer is strong; He will take up their case against you.
And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
through knowledge its rooms are filled with every precious and beautiful
treasure.
Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and
plead the cause of the poor and
needy.
Open your mouth, judge righteously, and defend the cause of the poor and
needy.
I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with
mirth, therefore enjoy
pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.
I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with
pleasure; enjoy what is good!” But it proved to be
futile.
And
whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I
withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart
rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.
Anything my eyes desired, I did not deny myself. I refused my heart no pleasure. For my heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labor.
For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the
sinner he giveth
travail, to gather and to
heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
To the man who is
pleasing in His sight, He gives wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the
sinner He assigns the task of gathering and
accumulating that which he will hand over to one who
pleases God. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the wind.
When thou vowest a
vow unto God,
defer not to pay it; for he hath no
pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast
vowed.
When you make a
vow to God, do not delay in
fulfilling it, because He takes no
pleasure in fools.
Fulfill your
vow.
The heart of the wise is in the house of
mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of
mirth.
The heart of the wise is in the house of
mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of
pleasure.
And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands:
whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the
sinner shall be taken by her.
And I find more bitter than death the woman who is a
snare, whose heart is a net, and whose hands are chains. The man who
pleases God escapes her, but the
sinner is ensnared.
Be not
hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth
whatsoever pleaseth him.
Do not
hasten to leave his presence, and do not
persist in a bad cause, for he will do whatever he
pleases.
Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.
Remember now thy
Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw
nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no
pleasure in them;
Remember your
Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of
adversity come and the years approach of which you will say, “I find no
pleasure in them,”
Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as
ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.
Behold, thou art fair, my beloved,
yea,
pleasant: also our bed is green.
How handsome you are, my beloved! Oh, how delightful! The soft grass is our bed.
